So after getting the sword, you must go to the Sunwell, found at the end of The Sunwell Plateu, a level 70 raid.

Here's the entire quest chain, with simple descriptions and quest links for the Horde versions.

The Battered Hilt
Bring the Battered Hilt to Myralion Sunblaze at Quel'Delar's rest, south of the Argent Tournament Grounds.
What The Dragons Know
Speak to Krasus at the top of Wyrmrest Temple.
The Silver Covenant Scheme (Alliance version is called "The Sunreavers' Plan)
Obtain the Orders by killing an NPC in the Dalaran Sewers. Make sure you kill the right one.
A Suitable Disguise
Obtain a Borrowed Tabard from Shandy Glossgleam; He is upstairs in the Threads of Fate: if you are standing in front of the stairs with the Violet Citadel to your back, it is to the right (to the left is the toy store).
An Audience With The Arcanist
Retrieve the Ancient Dragonforged Blades tome from Arcanist Tybalin. Use the disguise and go in the Alliance section of Dalaran.
Return To Myralion Sunblaze
Bring the Ancient Dragonforged Blades to Myralion Sunblaze at Quel'Delar's Rest.
Reforging The Sword
Obtain 5 Infused Saronite Bars and the Forgemaster's Hammer and use them to make the Reforged Quel'Delar. (AKA: Run the Pit of Saron. The infused bars are near the entrance; don't forget you have to kill the boss, too.)(It appears this can be done on Normal Difficulty.)
Tempering The Blade
Temper the Reforged Quel'Delar in the Crucible of Souls. (AKA: kill the final boss of Forge of Souls; use the quest item nearby.)(It appears this can be done on Normal Difficulty.)
The Halls Of Reflection
Bring your Tempered Quel'Delar to Sword's Rest inside the Halls of Reflection. (AKA, obviously, run Halls of Reflection.)(It appears this can be done on Normal Difficulty.)
Journey To The Sunwell
Speak with Halduron Brightwing at the entrance to the Sunwell Plateau on the Isle of Quel'Danas.
Thalorien Dawnseeker
Visit Thalorien Dawnseeker's Remains and obtain his blessing to wield Quel'Delar. (Go around behind SWP to the Dead Scar (southern end of Isle of QD zone, not in the SWP raid instance) and kill a bunch of mobs.)
The Purification of Quel'Delar
Immerse your Tempered Quel'Delar in the Sunwell. Speak to a Warden of the Sunwell when you are ready to enter the Sunwell Plateau. (Possibly different versions of this for sword/mace?)
A Victory For The - (sword or mace)
Bring the Restored Quel'Delar to the NPC at the Violet Citadel in Dalaran.

I did the entire second part of the chain starting with the event in HoR grouped with someone else who was on the same quest when we started, made it somewhat quicker.

I've just thrown in the tainted quel'delar into the sunwell.. Then the guys begin to speak and frozen me in place. I've done it before on my rogue, I should be able to pick it up again, hanging in the air at the sunwell.. But it doesn't.. Now I don't know what to do......

If it doesnt complete, abandon qeust and retake from the guy near entrance Sunwell.

Stand near the natural NPC and "use" the Quel qeust item (inside and near Sunwell)

It will trown it in and the event starts again, wait till its over and then u have to "use" the Quel'Delar u see sticking in the Sunwell.

Done, go to Aethas to have a little chat about it <3

It would be nice if I could get the Sunwell to actually load. I've been trying for the last 25 minutes and still can't it to load. I don't know, maybe it's busy on a Sunday night at 10pm? I'm going to keep trying but at this point, it's seriously becoming annoying.

Can we say... a little over an hour at this point and it still won't load.

k this can be confusing:

this is what you need to do.

Do not make a raid to enter sunwell, if you do that the quest wont compleet. What you need to do is talk to a guard infront of the entrance he will port you inside.

once inside, walk down the long stairs past some big robot npc and turn left to the middle. You are standing now infront of some big red light..

Use your quest item there, and you are done.

Not being able to read sure can be confusing. The quest CLEARLY STATES that you need to talk to the guard. If you couldn't figure that out, Quel'Delar was wasted on you.

Also what happens inside the sunwell varies depending on wether you are a Blood elf or not. If you are, they will say thing along the line of " We must rally behind the new bearer of Quel'Delar". If you arent a BE, Lorthemar Theron will try to take the sword from you, and get ^&*!@slapped by it.

There are two wardens standing on either side of the Sunwell raid portal. I first talked to the Warden on the right, he was unable to teleport me inside. Talked to the one on the left and I was whisked inside.

Just mentioning that in case the same happens for anyone else and they get a little panicky like I did. :)

This quest went wrong for me today on Kazzak EU.

I'm not sure what caused it, but basically trying to retrieve the sword after it's purification led to either the item lagging or bugging - I was unable to retrieve the quest item, and the sword simply despawned afterwards. In favour of my lag theory, the alliance were hitting Silvermoon City for their leaders achievement at the time. The servers have been somewhat unstable lately and I believe this may have contributed. In the case it was a bug, then as stated I have NO idea what caused it.

EDIT: have since fixed this by dropping the quest, and re-taking it. The phase on Quel'Danas will last until this part is completed, so you can get the quest and the tainted quel'delar from the initial quest giver outside the instance portal. :)

For all of you drunkards out there like myself. For this quest, you must accept it, then you enter by talking to the " warden of the sunwell" right at the entrance of Sunwell Plateau. After you are granted entry from that warden, you are teleported to an instance of SP and you need to make your way down to the fire. just travel around counter clock-wise and then use the Quel Delar item in your bags. It will make a form of the item in the air in front of you in the fire. then some dialog. the you get frozen trapped, more dialog. make sure to CLICK AND GET the mofo'n quest item. it's the same one that has been floating in the air since you put it there. cog wheel my dude. run back out and turn in the quest. yeeyee sugma BigDawg

Instead, remain focused on your task here. Speak to a Warden of the Sunwell when you are ready to enter the Sunwell. Immerse the reformed Quel'Delar in the Sunwell to complete the restoration. Afterward, show the blade to Myralion Sunblaze at Quel'Delar's Rest.
