Can't finish this quest on the PTR till Halls of Reflection goes up.

When you enter the Halls of Reflection, Uther the Lightbringer will appear with a warning not to proceed. If you approach the Frostmourne Pedestal, Quel'Delar will leap from your inventory, come to life and fight you. You must defeat it and upon its death you will be able to loot the Subdued Quel'Delar. Uther then warns you to leave quickly. I was able to accomplish this on regular difficulty with a group of three (DK tank, Boomkin, Holy priest). Seems it could be bugged as well. For each of us, we had to reset the instance each time so all three could loot the item.

I went back in to this instance after I had already completed the dungeon, so the bosses and trash leading to the first room were already gone. I was able to easily solo this as a demonolgy warlock. I had felguard up and on it the entire time. The ONLY thing I did was keep up Curse of Weakness, and if I was able to (ie minion had full health) a Corruption and Immolate spell. The rest of the time I was casting Health Funnel onto the felguard. I was on heroic mode, but I'm not sure it makes a difference.

I went inside the instance hoping the sword was soloable and snarable; to my luck i discovered it can be snared in any way, except when its bladestorming.

I am normally a DW frost DK, but i found it most efficient switching to my unholy spec for improved damage on death coil. I jumped into unholy presence, and as the room is a circle, I ran around in the edge while keeping Frost Feaver on the target, while snaring it when it doesnt bladestorm. This is very often tho, so beware! Remember potions, healthstone and bandages, as you can be hit occasional when the timing from the kiting gets bad. It took me ~15 minutes soloing, but def worth it. The feeling from soloing stuff is not to be messed with!

The sword has 214k hp.

Solo'd by feral druid in bear form. Waited til it got me down to 15% health, then popped barkskin/survival instincts/frenzied regen and healed up. Killed it in about 1.5 minutes. I don't know if heroic or normal mode matters, but I did it on heroic and it had 214k HP and melee'd me for 2-3k with 31.6k armor.

Note: you do not have to have completed or begin the Halls of Reflection instance in order to do this part of the Quel' quest.

You can walk in, trigger the event, and complete it - all without beginning the 10 waves/bosses.

Well thought id toss this in, just solo'd it as a prot warrior, turns out this giant floating angry sword can be disarmed, so yea it drops itself, kinda cool.

This hits very hard on cloth, and it quickly killed me as a well geared Shadow or Disc priest.

2 manned it with a DPS DK and me Disc healing. Even then, the DK was getting whacked pretty hard. Tank gear/spec is advisable.

As already mentioned in a previous post, this quest can be soloed by a death knight using chains of ice at the proper moments between Quel'delar's bladestorm. I thought I would add something else I discovered by accident.

You will notice that Uther is kneeling off to the side of the room. If you can somehow get Quel'delar to bladestorm Uther, he will come and attack Quel'delar.

This seems to be an unintended feature for a few reasons. Firstly, I kited the sword for roughly ten minutes, Uther giving no indication he would help. It wasn't until I made an error and got bladestormed next to Uther, that he started meleeing the sword. Secondly, while Uther has about 300k, he seems to take quite a beating from bladestorm. Looking through the combat log, Uther took roughly 6k a hit from the bladestorm. Uther was also doing about 6k a swing to the sword. Had I not been interested in finishing the quest, I would have done it over just to see if the sword could accidentally kill Uther.

Just to let you know I tried to solo this as a hunter using Uther as a tank and it buggs out the mob makeing it so you can't loot the sword and compleate the quest.

the same has just happend to me!
however if u abandon the quest...u can retake and the quest giver will replace the sword back in your inventry to retry the fight again :}
but u will need to reset the instance to rdo the fight...
as a hunter not sure if FD will reset your damage with uther?
so i avoided FD after the first fail..
MD to pet and uther takes agro after pet dies....
now hit it with everything u got
took 4 attempts for me to be able to overtake uther's damage but i got it in the end ...so yes a hunter can do it solo :)
ps...the poor pet got it every time :(

I soloed this part as a Prot Paladin easily!

And I got myself some BONUS (fanmade) lore because I fought Quel'delar using its sister blade, Quel'Serrar :P
Which I also just got recently. Both Sister blades soon in my possesion, both gotten within a week.
Too bad I can't dual weild them as a paladin :(

Soloed as an 80 BM Hunter.

Throw your pet at Quel'Delar, burn it down as much as you can before your pet dies, then pop on Aspect of the Cheetah and kite making wide circles around the room and firing off Arcane and Serpent Sting. Mana might get a bit low, even after taking a pot, so your shot frequency might drop off towards the end but you'll eventually get there :p

I guess another alternative might be to kite until you run low on mana, then draw it over to Uther and let him finish it off.

And just confirmation of what was said above; if you fail then you'll need to reset the instance before you enter the Halls again.

Two things about this quest: First, the part about getting Uther to help works very well, we did that and the quest was a breeze. I am a ret pally and just backed over to Uther and when the sword went into bladestorm I bubbled and stayed next to Uther to make sure he got aggro'ed and then let him tank. It was cool to watch.

Second, and this is strange, I got a 5-man group together to do this quest and we were going to run HoR after I finished the quest. However, when we entered the dungeon, two of our members could not get in. Three was still plenty to do the quest, especially with Uther's help, but we never could figure out why two people could not get in, we were all 80s.

Oh well, on the the Sunwell now.

I'm lvl 80 and can't get into Halls of Reflection (Heroic) at all. Dungeon finder says that I have to obtain better gear. So maybe the other 2 people weren't geared. My current gearscore is 4080 and I still can't get in. When at a low gearscore of a little over 3k I counldn't do most heroic dungeons. Now at 4080 I can do every heroic dungeon except Halls of Reflection. According to WOW heroes my gs is still under 2k, though. So I guess my addon is wrong.

I just soloed this on my lowly 4.8k gear-score Mage, and it was WAY easier than I expected after reading the preceding comments here. (But I do give full credit to the tips that others before me provided.) It took me two tries, and only because I underestimated how quick the sword would go down on the first attempt.

On the first try, I aggroed the sword and moved back behind Uther. Then I Iceblocked right as the sword got to where I was and started Bladestorming. After the Bladestorm was over, I clicked off Iceblock and blinked away, leaving Uther to tank Quel'Delar without me even taking a single hit. Then I started DPS'ing the sword. I was cautious for a few seconds because I didn't want to pass Uther on threat. . . so I delayed popping my Mirror Images and blowing all of my cooldowns for about 8-10 seconds, and that was a mistake. Because a few seconds later the sword was at 0 health and the fight was over already. But I couldn't loot the sword - I hadn't done enough damage to it relative to Uther. Doh. So I left the instance and reset it. As someone else said on one of these threads, you do not need to abandon the quest and get the sword again. For me, just resetting the instance and going back up to Uther once I was inside was enough to start the event again.

On the second try, I actually mistimed my Iceblock a bit. So before I blinked away I took a few Bladestorm hits which knocked me down to about 25% of my health. (I'd put on Mana Shield also right before I pulled.) But once I was clear, my low health didn't matter. I popped my Mirror Images and then opened up with everything I had. I hit my Arcane Power / Icy Veins / Trinket macro and drank a Speed pot for good measure, and just spammed Arcane Blast on the sword. I passed Uther on threat about 5-7 seconds before the sword was "dead." That was a clear indication I was doing enough damage to it this time, and exactly my goal - to defeat ithe sword while my Mirror Images were still up so my threat was hidden. It worked, and took less than 30 seconds total. I was able to loot Quel'Delar and complete that part of the chain, and soon after I had my weapon. I'm glad I decided to try and solo it; it was fun. But I actually expected a bigger challenge. Meh.

Attention all classes: I soloed as MM hunter (easy-peasy instructions) - basic tactics could possibly apply to other classes.

1. Start the event. Uther moves to the wing on the right; go and stand next to him.
2. When you are ready, apply Hunter's Mark and pull the sword with a sting.
3. Move back a few steps behind Uther and feign death immediately.
4. As soon as Uther has the sword's attention, jump up and nuke down the sword from range. Just make sure you do your share of the damage (I'm guessing at least 50%) and you will get the credit, without a scratch. Once I started the fight, it took less than 20 seconds.

Forget about all the kiting, aspect of cheetah, CC, MD to pet etc - FD is all you need. For other classes, I would suggest similar tactics, i.e. pull from range, get behind Uther and use your aggro dump, whatever that may be, invisibility etc - whatever it takes for Uther to get the aggro - and burn it down.

The rest of the chain is simple; a couple of pitiably easy fights on the Isle of Quel'Delar, a quick trip inside the Sunwell (no raid group necessary, and no mobs to attack you), a bit more flying around, and you have a nifty sword or mace. Enjoy!

Just did it with my Enhc Shammy. Very easy.. just run around to the right where Uther is, hit the sword and kit him to Uther. The sword does bladestorm, and if it hits Uther, he will start attacking it. Let Uther have aggro and just attack it without stealing aggro from him.Run back and forth to get away from bladestorm. 1 shotted it!

last night i did this quest and it was a cool fight :0
my bear has 50K hp and reasonable good gear (5.2GS) so i tried to solo it without the help of uther. my idea was:im a tank, so why let uther tank ? AW....i managed, but only with 3% health left and a quick run to uther in the end to help haha. I thought i didnt made it, so it was a close escape...
after rereading the comments above i think i missed the part of the rooting possiblity in bladestorm, i guess that would have helped too.

heres what i did: i used a armor pot, started the fight, placed a hot on me and switched to bear form. after that i used my skills. with bladestorm i switched on barskin and moved as far away as i could. on the next bladestorm i used FR, still moving away from him. next i saw my HP dropping cos he hits real hard so i dashed and putted some quick hots again before swapping back, when i saw my health drop under 50% i used my trinkets (1 at a time) and finally i used a health pot. (and ran to uther to help)

this is what i recall of the fight. I wish i could repeat the fight, cos it was chalenging :)
somehow they should make an epic fight selection possible, where you can solo tough fights (more than once). This one will be one on my list hehe

I was concerned about this, especially after having read the earlier comments, but gave it a try anyway.

On my Ele Shammy, with only badge and heroic gear this was very easy, only lost 25% health. Basically, I went to the east side by Uther, cast Wind Shear on the sword to pull it, ran behind Uther dropping a Earthbind totem to slow the sword and then nuked it like crazy. Uther had no problems holding aggro. Completed it my first try.

In short, Uther doesn't have any problem hold aggro once you get the sword to him, only tricky party is getting it to Uther w/o dying.

Uther does not hold aggro anymore. He will do a ton of dps making you not get credit for this but the sword will still chase you down when trying to solo this.

This comment had me a little concerned that Blizz made a change, but I didn't have any issues. As a hunter, I stood at Uther on the right side, marked and pulled with Concussive shot (slows it down enough to be bladestorming when it gets to you). When the sword was at Uther, I feigned, then picked up the dps. Uther isn't a tank, so you need to monitor your threat, but one more feign and it was clear sailing. Enjoy the quest chain and your new weapon!

We just did it with a friend (for him) I tanked it with only 3500 Gs and he healed me with less than that, we normally are Ret pally's but we got offspecs as prot and holy for things like this.

Not too hard for healer+tank I'd say.

i did this on a unholy dk in frost presence.. had a 80 druid heal with me, poped AoD and ghoul+one gargoyle and DD, and downed it easy, seems like uther does not fight, just stands there

easily soloed as a mage. I just aggroed the sword, got beside uther and iceblocked when the sword reached me. It then hit uther,aggroeing him to the sword and I dpsed the swored while he tanked. real easy

if you join a group already in progress and past the first room you can still summon the sword. you just have to run back to the front side of the room, not the altar.

I admire Blizz's effort to promote "TeamWork" but to actually enforce it (!) - not cool

We're all here with the same problem looking for solutions and here's what i've tried so far:

Tried to:

- solo in my dps gear (4.9k gs) without help from Uther or anyone else - died about 4 seconds into the fight

- solo in my tanking gear (4.4k gs) without help from Uther or anyone else - died about 10 seconds into the fight

- solo in my tanking gear again with Uther's help - managed to stay alive but no credit

- do it in a group, queued for a heroic specifically this dungeon - what a nightmare ! First PUG, two people left the group as soon as i mentioned "Battered Hilt" and "extra 2-3 minutes" scenario before the actual instance... Second PUG's healer refused to heal me or to leave the party... Third PUG was cool and willing to help but again - no credit

- do it once more only with help from a friend of mine who was standing behind me healing while i did 100% dmg and eventually and finally killed the spirit - we both could see the "sparkling" but no looting option or anything else o_O

So yea anyhow, posted a ticket looking for answers, no response after two days..

btw. what up with those comments like "lulz just solo'd it with my hunter lulz" that doesn't help at all in forums like this, it's more like adding more salt into the wound

i'm guessing lotsa teen's and immature adults online these days, desperate for attention they're not getting in rl

- Turns out all this trouble was caused by my "Carbonite" AddOn so i had to completely re-install the game :(
- Just "repair"-ing the game files doesn't cut it

Hmm, I just went in there on normal mode in patch 4.0.1 as an Arcane Mage, popped Images and spammed it with Arcane Blast until it was dead..

Noticeable things, I was actually able to slow it and kite it arround.

To clarify.
As of patch 4.1 this quest is very simple I imagine for most classes.

Enter Halls of Reflection on normal difficulty.
Run past Jaina when you are inside, Uther will yell at you and tell you not to come any closer with that sword.
Keep running and the sword will appear.
Fight the sword. (The sword has a health pool of ~200k)
I entered as a feral druid, popped all cd's and was down in ~30 seconds.

Then run out and hand your quest back in.

I tried soloing as a holy pally using Uther for dps and wiped. I used a preg spec and had Uther dps and was able to complete the quest. Dang sword hits like a truck, but doable.
