There are the four items needed to complete this quest and two of those item will require an additional quest to be picked up.

Whitestone Oak Lumber: This is dropped from the goblin woodworkers inside deadmines inside the mast making room. Its the room with the large logs stacked around.

Jordans Refined Ore Shipment: This will require an additional quest acuired from Bailor Stonehand inside Thelsamar. https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/npc=6241 Hes down stairs inside the house with the tailoring merchant outside. Once you acuire the quest the ore can be found from a box at aproximetly 71,21
https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/object=92420 Return the box to Stonehand and he will give you the refined Ore.

Jordans Smithing Hammer: No additional quest is needed. You will need to travel to Silverpine Forest to Shadowfang keep which is located just north of Pyrewood Village. You will find the hammer inside the stables located in the courtyard of the instance.

The stablesare located just north of the letter B on the map. If you are around lvl 20 you will either need a full group or a lvl 60 to get you to that area.

Purified Core Gem: The final piece requires that you travel to Kalimador. You will need to take the boat from menethil to Darnassus (Teldrassil). Be sure to stop by the gryphon masters to acuire new flightpaths. You will need to take the boat from Teldrassil to darkshore which is just on the otherside of the dock. Once in darkshore speak with Thundris Windreaver in Auberdine https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/npc=3649 After getting the quest "Seeking the Kor Gem" Head south to Ashenvale and the entrence to Blackfathom Deeps is located around 15,15. Its located inside the ruins of a temple, you will see a pit with water at the bottom and stairs taking you down to it. Once you are in teh water dive and you will find that you can swim under one of the walls and actually enter Blackfathom Deeps. You will not have to travel deep inside, it usually drops off the second or third Wrathtail. Once you have the gem travel back to Thundris Windreaver.

The smithing hammer is probably the hardest part of this quest due to difficulty in finding groups to Shadow Fang Keep. It is however soloable. I did this at level 22 solo so it is definetly doable. Some tips to doing this are that if you have to fight mobs in a group try pulling them near the entrance to the instance. Kill one of them and zone out. Eat + drink and come back in and repeat until you have cleared that pull. For the part where you free the guy from the cell, you can just jump down and free him and if you die he will still open the gate for you. In the couryard, work on clearing the left wall so that you have a clear path to the stables. If you get the debuff that periodically summons the spirits using concecration when they spawn quickly kill them.

I never thought I'd say this, but the LFG tool saved me a lot of time on this one! For the SFK part, I found a group that was 4-manning SFK, and asked if I could join just to run in and grab the hammer. They were fine with it, and had already cleared past. Now I'm on my way to IF to get the Fist at lvl22!

Might want to pick up "Onward to Ashenvale" from Thundris Windreaver while you're there... 9 Silver and some XP to talk to somewhere in Astranaar, the inn-city in Ashenvale. About a 2 minute run (non-speed-increase) from the top of the zone, and also where the flighpath is.

Solo'ed with a 24 Ret. Paladin. Hardest part was SFK for the Hammer took both Blessing of Protection, and Divine Protection to take down the Gaurd at the prison cells. From there just had the Mage dude open the door and carefully walked to the Hammer. Just glad I didn't have to waste LoH :)

As a lvl 25 ret spec I was able to solo the first deadmines boss to get to the goblins after several unsuccessful attempts. I had to use BoP, Divine Protection, Lay on Hands, 2 Silk Bandages, 2 Healing Potions, a Fishliver Oil and it was still very close. Needless to say it will save you a lot of trouble if you get a group for this part.

I had this experience at Level 24:

Refined Ore Shipment & Kor Gem - Easy to get solo.

Smithing Hammer - Hard, but definitely doable solo - hardest part is the two on one mobs, and releasing the prisoner to open the gate for you - luckily you can die after freeing him (make sure you ask him to open the gate!) and he'll still open the door, just give it a minute before you release to the graveyard.

Lumber - I'm having trouble with this and will likely have to find a group if I want to do it at 24. Rhak'zor just hits too hard for me to stay up - easy to get to him, and you can pull him without attracting the two mobs near him - but the only way to do this is like the guy above did, and even then I think you need a lil' luck. So basically get a group unless you wait a few levels...

Hey i was just wondering if this quest was really worth it. I know that the mace is supposed to be a sick weapon and all that but this quest has alot of running around to do in un-known areas for me so i will have to walk there which im not to happy about :(
Any suggestions if i should or should not do this quest?
P.S. Do i need to do this quest to start my next paladin quest?

Oh my god! I went into the blackfathorns deeps and i got the gem from the first one i killed. Awsome! Easy as hell. Now to hand in the quest and get my weapon.

Regarding soloing SFK....

I did it on my level 20 retri pala with green items apart from the Cruel Barb from the deadmines, would recommend a few health pots too.

To reiterate what one of the other posters said about SFK, it is advisable to pull multiple mobs back to the entrance, or if too far away just kill one and try to run out as fast as you can, for the gate I just used Divine Protection and quickly talked to the NPC, death is a given here.

One thing I found out is that when up the second set of stairs I think it was (There will be a raised platform to your left with a wolf and a worgen on it) you can aggro the worgen from the lower platform and the wolf doesn't come after you along with him, maybe a fluke, worth testing though, but also worth hanging a right whilst getting rid of the other two mobs so you don't agro him too soon.

When in the courtyard it is fairly easy to get along the left side, there is only one double pull and I found it best to get rid of one of the wolves and one the ghosts to make sure I didn't get agro problems. The worgen do put on an anti-magic shield but it has a short duration and shouldn't cause too much bother.

Once you have killed the mobs on the left by the wall you can get into the stables just enough to get the quest item without agroing anyone inside.

Hope this helps someone, and as this is my first post to wowhead I hope I didn't make any community nonos.

Solo'd as a lvl 23/24.

SFK as noted, takes a bit of practice but not too bad.
Ore, np.
Got gem on 1st mob.
Deadmines is definitely the trickiest. Got to Rhak'zor and tried him unbuffed (apart from aura and blessing) almost got him. The returned with: well fed, stamina and intellect scrolls. Beat him down with Razor's Edge and the shield from the earlier part of the quest. Finish off with a mana pot and Lay on Hands and Rhak goes down.

Gear was greens except as noted and spec was ret/prot evenly split.

Just soloed the entire quest at level 22. It CAN be done.

The Ore Shipment is cake since Blizz nerfed the ogres in Loch Modan. The Kor Gem is just a lot of running to get to BFD. You have to go underwater and into the cave, but you don't need to enter the actual instance.

The tricky part starts with the smithing hammer. The pulls in SFK are all 2 at a time, if done right, and very easily managed (I didn't need to exit the portal, but I suppose you could do that if you're not burning pots/scrolls/elixirs). As said above, the one death in the jail cell area is unavoidable - that boss simply cannot be taken down alone at that level. All I did was jump down, bubble, open the cell and talk to the NPC, and then died. As long as you don't release until the dude gets the door open, you can run back and finish up with minimal effort.

In Deadmines, Rhak'zor is very soloable with the right consumables up, and even easier if you spend a little money on a Clefthide Armor Kit for your pants. After that, it's a cakewalk to the mast room. Watch out for the pat after Rhak'zor, then just pull the first goblin in the room and get your lumber.

Personally, I think doing it all solo is a good way to hone your skill and challenge your wits a bit - plus the XP is a little better. :-) I picked up the quest after I dinged 22, and was nearly 23 before I turned it in, doing no other questing in the interim.

Also, while going for the Ore in Loch Modan it can be wise to pick up the Wanted quest for Chok'sul as that's just two more minutes you need to spend up there for some nice rewards and experience

Started this quest at level 21, finished at level 22. Getting the gem and ore were easy, just took some travel time. I died once getting the wood. The sub boss was a long, but easy fight, bring a good healing potion with you, and take your time, he's not to hard to beat. Watch the goblins when entering the ship building room, only pull the one, and stay close to the door, else you'll get mobbed. The hammer took the longest. When traveling, stick to the center of the road so you don't pull agro. I died once in the dungeon, at the cells, pull carefully. When you get to the court yard, like the others said, stick to the left side, against the wall. You'll deal with groups of 2 while being attacked by minor lower level spirits. Once you make it to the stables grab the hammer and hearth out.

Soloed the entire quest at Level 21, with no twink gear at all, all quest gear and stuff that dropped for me. Loch Modan and BFD are easy. Just take it slow in SFK, and you shouldn't have too much of a problem, just kite packs of two to the instance portal and zone out immediately after killing one. When you get close to Rethilgore, strip naked, use Hand of Protection, and talk to the mage who opens the courtyard door before the mobs kill you. At that point you can resume your slow crawl towards Jordan's hammer. The only truly difficult part is Rhahk'Zor in the Deadmines. To beat him, I had to use Divine Protection, a Healing Potion, Lay on Hands, and Lifeblood (rank 2). I don't think I could have done it without Lifeblood.

I just did the quest.

SFK was the hardest part. But I manage to do it. First boss was a real pain. Took me 4-5 tries before I found out how to solo him.
A tip, pull the worgs + boss to the entrance. Kill one wolf, zone out. Go in, pull them again and kill last worg. Zone out and zone in and kill the boss.

Did it as full ret at lvl 21. Used shield + 1h axe with ret aura. Bring some mana/health pots and water!

To help with pulls, a good skill is Hand of Reckoning. It can pull from 30 yards away and deals 1 damage, which might be the 1 damage you need to kill it.

i solod the entire quest as a lvl 22-23 paladin with retribution talents, and a shield and onehander.
in sfk u just have to make sure u dont pull more than 2 at a time, and ur fine.
i did all the parts without any pots or lay on hands.
Having a decent shield with ret aura is enough.

Soloed it starting being just lvl21 well geared (mostly green lvl16-20 items) prot paladin in Loch Modan, died twice in the Deadmines (once first Boss (forgot Lay on hands), and patrol after, wasnt healed and ready to take them after killing the big mofo), but got the wood. Did a few other quests along the way and hit lvl 22. BFD was easy, first kill and the area was cleared anyway....SFK wasnt that hard, pulled once 3 mobs, but was able to survive without Lay on hands. I only died once after the gate was open. Aggroed too many mobs at the left side before the stables, they being immune a lot, and then was too late to hit Lay on hands in the end...

So died a few times along the way, but was really surprised being able to solo it as a new "crappy" player :P

Very fun and good practise to learn the ropes a bit...the weapon is so good I will respec to retribution ;) Almost hit lvl23 after this chain quest including some other quests. So definately soloable starting at lvl21 even for me!

Solo'd as a level 20 Draenei Ret using a lvl 16 2H mace and random quest greens. Buffs were Ret aura and Kings. I died zero times. Make sure you bring atleast one stack each of food and water and some potions.

The ore and gem portions are easily solo'able. They do each require a secondary quest (from Thelsamar and Auberdine respectively).

Hammer in SFK: For the two-mob pulls, stand next to the entrance in case you need to zone out. Start your heals when you're at about half life, and try to save your Hammer of Justice for the Seal of Command judgement if you're ret. After the first pull, you can solo aggro the next wolf by panning your camera around the stone wall, right clicking him, and jumping up and down on the opposite side of the wall. On the ledge leading to the first hallway, you can solo aggro the worgen mob from the platform below. After clearing the top level of the room with the prisoners, you can jump on the ledge right beside the stairs and solo aggro the worgen under you. For the boss, I aggro'd the wolf closest to the stairs and ran back to the entrance of the instance. Start your heals at about 66% life and use a bubble when needed. After killing one wolf, zone out, rest up, and wait for bubble to finish cooling down. Go back in and pull the boss to the entrance again. This time, focus on the boss. I downed him and the remaining wolf without zoning. When you get the door to the courtyard opened, focus on the mobs along the left wall. I pulled the patrols just to be on the safe side. Also, pull back up the stairs into the hall to avoid any more adds. The hammer is on a crate in the stables.

Lumber in Deadmines: Work your way up to the ogre by pulling carefully. After SFK, you shouldn't have any problems with the single pull elites in here. The ogre is by far the hardest part of this quest. Make sure you have a bubble and LoH up. He's stunnable and does a knockdown. I started a heal after every knockdown. I had to use a mana pot, bubble, and LoH here. HEADS UP: I haven't played Alli in a while so I forgot about the pat that spawns after you kill the ogre. It's a two pull of elites; easily dispatched. Make your way to the woodworking area. Be careful when you pull the goblins; there is a pat that comes from the left. I made a very bad pull and grabbed 3 of them. I got lucky and killed the last one with about 40 life remaining. I don't know if the droprate is 100%, but I looted the first one I killed mid-combat and he had it.

I ended up getting about 1.75 levels of experience (non-rested) from solo'ing all of the chain. Hope this helps some of you.

Just did this quest as 24 Ret Pally, followed the directions below. Shadowfang was a little hard by myself and also Deadmines, but I got it done, thanks heaps for the advise.

To those of you wondering if you should complete this quest... the answer is yes.

I don't care if you're doing this at level 20 with same-level groups, doing it then with a 80 powering you through. Or even if you solo it at 40 or even waiting until you're 80 and going back to solo it then. Just do the quest.

At the end of the day you can't look at yourself in the mirror and call yourself a Paladin if you haven't done the Verigan's Fist quest and the Charger quest. If you can't handle it, go roll a DK.

I just ran this solo just to see if I could, on my baby off-server-alt Paladin, starting at 20. I died about a dozen times (Half of those were because I not-so-brilliantly attempted to sneak past the patrol in the Deadmines that spawns after you down Rhakk'zor)

The one major hitch I hit was in the Mast room, where you retrieve the Whitestone Oak Lumber. Has anyone figured out a way to single-pull those goblins? When I went in there were a pair of them that alternated their patrol patterns so that no matter what, you're guaranteed to pull at least three of them (I pulled five >_>)

I managed to get the wood by focusing one of them down while keeping myself healed long enough for him to die, then doing a corpse-run to loot his body (BE SURE to pull them back outside the door if you use this tactic!)

Anyway, I'm off to collect my shiny new whuppin' stick :)

Good luck! It's better to really just get a group (The fact I was able to solo this far in without ANY heirloom/twink gear, as Ret, shows how easy these early instances are to tank ;)), but I just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.

Edit: I'd also just like to thank everyone that posted here. I wouldn'tve been able to pull this off without the excellent advice others have contributed. :)

Just talked to a GM about this & as part of patch 4.0.1 removing class-specific quests from the game, this can no longer be finished. The GM said that also applies to quests like An Earnest Proposition.

If you finish The Test of Righteousness before
You can still get this quest, but can't finish it.
Because Thundris Windreaver in Auberdine is killed by tsunami.
So you can't get purified Kor Gem.
I get Jordan's Refined Ore Shipment.
But I forget when player enter Instance , Ore and this quest will disappear.

FLASH FLASH Wowhead: I just got this quest today November 21, 2011. The guy was standing by the tables for Pilgrim's feast at Ironforge. Maybe this is a quest that Blizzard rethought and brought back. But I did get the quest.

Shadowfang Keep Mini-FAQ:

I solo'd this quest at lvl28 and I was far higher in level than I needed to be; it was almost easy. To solo this, with good equipment, I'm guessing lvl25-26, and it won't be too hard.

You'll want to start off in Menethil Harbor, and take the long walk up past Dun Modr and through Thandol Span. Cross Arathi Highlands and take a break in Refuge Point (/tloc 44,52) to link to the Gryphon Rider. If you get killed you can just fly back here. Proceed down the road, West to Thoradin's Wall. There are NPC guards along most of this route so all you need to worry about is PvE for the most part. Continue West to Southshore, where you can link another Gryphon Rider.

From here out there's a lot of NPC guards so you're still going to be fairly protected, but the mobs that spawn around here are sometimes into lvl33 iirc so be very cautious.

Once you enter Silverpine Forest (West again from Southshore) the PvE is cake because the mobs are below lvl20 on average. This is also Horde Territory, which isn't so bad considering most Horde in the area are around lvl20 and don't even have their PvP flags on so they won't bother you. Continue West until you reach Pyrewood Village, a lvl18+ elite area for Horde which is useless unless you're dying to use a forge or anvil. Really, I wouldn't step foot in there because there might still be some irritable Horde who will pick a fight with you on general principle. Besides, the road to Shadowfang Keep is the Northern side of the fork in the road just before Pyrewood (/tloc 49,72) so head up the hill to your right.

PROTIP: Do this quest early in the morning. There's a high chance of being ganked by Horde on the way to Shadowfang Keep, but that chance lessens when there's less people playing, obviously.

Shadowfang Keep is an instance, so once you enter you're safe from PvP gankers. So relax; the hardest part is behind you.

During the quest in Shadowfang Keep you'll have the option of freeing an Alliance prisoner in the first "section" of the keep. Doing so will open a sealed door which leads into the Keep's courtyard. The stables are directly in front of that door.

Now what you'll want to do, if soloing, is lure mobs one at a time onto the steps leading down into the courtyard. This is a good way to control aggro and lessen the chance of linking. If needed, drag a mob all the way up back through the door.

Jordan's hammer - it's a very long journey to get to Shadowfang Keep in Silverpine (bring a patient friend). I feel bad for those on the PvP server for this one. I've done this part at level 23 with a 22 priestess. The monsters here are actually easier than the ones in Blackfathom Deeps (everything before the hammer that is, I left afterwards).

Kor Gem - you do not have to go far into Blackfathom Deeps. People say you have to go into the instance, which is false. The entire dungeon is similar to deadmines, I think...half ffa dungeon, half instance. I saw a bunch of horde here, so another PvP issue. Done this at 23 with a 22 priestess.

Jordan's shipment - I soloed this at 23. Just don't get sandwiched by fat ogres.

Whitestone Oak - haven't got this yet. I've got loads of deadmines quest to do, and before I got this quest, I've killed the goblin shredder and his workers a few times already (at level 20-22 with a full team). I am anxious to go after VC again, so I hope this goes smoothly.

*So with some help, I agree with those who say you can do it at a lower level (20-22)...just get a team of 3 or so (friends most likely, this long quest benefits you only). Therefore you can make best use of that reward early on until a higher level weapon replaces it.

The kor gem is the easiest, for my point of view...

what u wanna do is take the boat from menethil harbor in westfall to auberdine, when u arrive, be sure to take the gryphon master, and then start walking south. once u reach ashenvale forest, u got 2 choices, go take the gryphon master first in Astranaar, or move directly to blackfathom deeps.... BFD is to ur right side, once u enter ahenvale. there you will see the instance entrance, and monster from lvl 18-20

just start killin the naga's (fish ppl) and you'll get it soon enough, you do not have to enter the instance, just start killin outside of it.

then its shorter to walk to astranaar and take the gryphon or whatever those NE things are called, and fly back to auberdine to move back to wetlands or wherever you want to go.

The ore shipment box is next to a brokendown cart amoost straight NE from the campfire. I got to it without fighting any orges at all.

Finished this today the same day I got it at Level 20.
You can solo the first parts of the chain quest but the 4 parts you need to gather for the last step are harder.

You can solo the Shipment stage by sticking to right hand side of Ogre camp adfter entering from the west. You will nee to fight 2 ogres on way in. The box is behind a tree a few yards in front of main cave.

The Hammer in Shadowfang keep is hard because there are about 4 times you have to fight a 18 and a 19 elite at same time. As I have engineering I used explosives and target dummy to get it done but it took a long time.

The Wood i did in Deadmines with a 49 Warrior who happened to be hanging around. I doubt i could have solo'd that. Wood dropped off first goblin in Shredder's room.

The gem from BFD kicked my a__ for awhile as it didnt drop out front and I went into instance to get it. 21 elites I couldnt kill on my own so called in priest friend to help. Dropped of fifth priestess (that looks like a naga). Handed back in and Whammo, awesome 25.6DPS mace.

Ore- 21, 72 in loch modan

I dont know the instance coordinates, but the etrance is all the way on the northwest of ashenvale on the shorline (there is only one place where ashenvale touches the sea)

Lumber- There is no coordinates for this becasue it is in the deadmines instance. Heres what you do. If you dont know where the instance is, find a group doing it (there is always at least 1) and they wil show you. Go into the instance until you see goblin woodcarvers and kill them. The drop rate is about 75%. Hearth or finish the instance

Jordan's Refined Ore Shipment: Talk to Bailor Stonehand in Lock Modan, then go to the Ogre Camp Norht-East of Lock Modan, they are around lvl 18 elite mobs, but u should not have any problems there. The Jordan's Ore Shipment is in the middle of the valley, then go back to Bailor Stonehand and he will give you Jordan's Refined Ore Shipment.

Purified Kor Gem: Take the boat from Menethil Harbor in Wetlands to Auberdine and talk to Thundris Windweaver. Then walk south untill u get to Ashenvale, from there go West untill u get to Zoram Strand, there it is an instance called Blackfathom Deeps. I think any naga there drops Corrupted Kor Gem, but i got it from one of the first Blackfathom Oracle i met.

Jordan's Smithing Hammer: Ok, this part is the hardest, so get some potions with you. So lets start from the beginning. Walk from Menethil Harbor and walk past Dun Modr and Thandol Span. U should go to the Refuge Point to link the Gryphon Rider. U should be carefull if u are on a pvp server, becouse high lvl horde walks in the area. Then continue West untill u reach Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills to link the Gryphon Rider. Then continue West untill u reach Shadowfang Keep.
From here its really hard, try to pull only 1 or 2 mobs on you, becouse it can be really hard with more than 2 mobs. But u should not have so much trubble before you get to the first boss, Rethilgore. And he can be really pain, becouse he cast an spell that does that u cant move or attack in 9 secs, but u can heal yourself. He also have 2 guardian mobs, but kill Rethilgore first, and if you die, u can go there again and kill the remaining mobs. Then free the Alliance NPC who opens the courtyard door for you, and u can see the stables from here. And from here be really carefull, pull 1 or 2 mobs with you then run inside the door again, kill them then pull 1 or 2 more mobs, and so on. Then walk to the Stables when u have killed most of the mobs there. And remember, NOT attack the Horses, or else it will be really hard to get the Jordan's Smithing Hammer, becouse if u attack a horse, they all come after you. Take the Jordan's Smithing Hammer in the Stables then and either walk out and go to Southshore and fly with a Gryphon, or use the Hearthstone.

I did all this in a PvP server at lvl 23-24. I joined a group to DM, but the rest i soloed.

Me: Lvl 21 Paladin and my friend: LvL 21 Warlock set out to complete this quest together, soo I could get this mace

First we traveled to Loch Modhan to get the Ore Shipment. After talking to the dwarf we picked up two quest, WANTED: Chok'Sul and Mercenaries. these two quests are inn the same area and you will do well to take them along with you. Me and my friend found the ore shipment behind a three close to the middle cave, wich is the entrence to where Chok'Sul is. After killing him (22 Elite)along with two guards (20 Elites) we went to complete.

Next we traveled through Wetlands to Arithi Highlands, got the flight path there and went on to Hillsbrad Foothills were we picked up another Flight Path in Southshore. In Silverpine we found Shadowfang Keep where Jordans Smithing Hammer lies. We managed to kill the mobs before Rethligore (lvl 18 or 20 cant remeber) along with two wolves at the same time. Clearing the left part of the Courtyard wasent soo bad as we thought it would be, as long as you pull the Patrolls FIRST, and found the hammer on top of a crate where the Demon Steeds is.

Next stopp was Darkshore, where I spoke to Thundris Windweaver (or something) before heading on to Blackfathom Deeps in Ashenvale, this part wasent too bad, kill one Naga Oracle, loot the Corrupted Core Gem and head back to Thundris soo he can cleanse it.

Last part we went to Deadmines, where our doubts laid. Killing Rakzur was a little challenge but inn the end he died, clearing the next corridor was another challenge because of all the elite patrolls but it went fine. All we had to do was kill ONE of the Goblins that hacks wood and loot him for the wood needed for my quest.

DONE!

Goodluck to all those who want to do this quest with a challenge, NOT asking high lvls or go in a whole group to complete this.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to post the above guides and how to's as I read them all for tips and info.

I was able to solo all the way though and was doing pretty good pulling 2 at a time at Shadow Fang Keep.

The hard part is when you pull more than two as our dps is not great enough to take them down quickly.

I had reset the instance once and was getting a bit disheartened at the part where the dog pens are, its difficult to control just pulling two.

Being faced with a second reset of the instance, a guild was going to do a run/tour for some of their lower level guild members and they had one slow open.

It worked out really well as they did need the extra help - being lower level raises your aggression range/radius to very high levels and can cause an entire room to pull on top of them.

If you head over to the horse stalls the Hammer is right there on a light brown crate click it and you are on your way to Iron Forge and a new future with a great Hammer.

I did this quest at 23, which i think is the lowest you can be unless you are in a group and I think that a group would have helped sometimes.

The first one I did was the ore and it is by far the easiest. The ore is next to a tree in the middle of the ogre place, not in a cave.

The next one that I did was the lumber. I just got in a group for VC and got the lumber as we ran through the place.

After that I headed to Auberdine by way of boat and got the gem quest. I just ran down the coastline unill I got to the ruins. The place you go in is one of the first ones one the left if you are looking at it from the coast. I just went in and swam under the water to get to the entrance. I had to kill a few saytr's to get to the tide priestess but i just killed them one at a time untill i got to her. I killed her easily and got the gem. Then you just have to go back to Thundris.

Finally is the Shadowfang Keep part. This is possible to solo at 23. Once inside you go to the right and immediatly run into a wolf and a worgen thing. I couldnt ever kill both at once so I would just kill the worgen guy, run out of the instance, heal up, and head back in and fight the wolf(which will immediatly attack you when you zone in). Work your way up the winding stairs untill you come to an empty hallway. At the end to the right is the door that leads to the stables. Because it is closed you have to let lose a guy locked up in a jail cell. At the end of the hallway to the left is where you have to go. Once looking down at the jail area all you have to do is go invincable, pull the lever by the center jailcell and go inside and talk to the guy. He will go unlock the door while you try to stay alive as long as possible by healing yourself and using a potion. Then you will die after awhile. Run back to the instance and the door will be open. Once looking at the courtyard area, all you have to do is kill the guys close to the stairs and along the left. I advice pulling the mobs up the stairs to prevent extra aggro. Once inside the stables there is one worgen inside and a bunch of non-aggro horses. Kill the worgen without hitting any of the horses and you will find the hammer siting on a crate right inside the stable.

I'm a 25 Ret Pally (I was a twink at 19 so not everything will be just as easy for you), and i'm flying to IF to turn the quest in as I write this. This is how you get each piece:

The first section, where you have to defend Daphne Stilwell from the Defias is not too hard, and not too easy. It's really yourself that you have to look out, since she has a very good amount of hp, and regains it after each 'wave'.

For the Whitestone Oak Lumber in Deadmines, I can solo until the ogre, but since you need ranged to pull him, I suggest a group. You just have to get to the goblins, and they should drop it the very first kill.

For the Jordan's Refined Ore Shipment, you have to go to Loch Modan, in Thelsamar, into the house with the Tailoring Supplies guy on the porch. Talk to Bailor Stonehand, and take his quest. Then go Northeast across the lake until you start seeing the ogre encampment. Go in, and keep going until you reach a tree with the item you need under it. Grab it and finish the quest for the shipment.

For the Smithing Hammer, Get to Southshore (Run there if you do not have the flightpaths), and then run east along the road until you reach Silverpine Forest. Follow the road up the hill and into SFK. You may need a group for this, but since you're a pally, you might have Turn Undead.
See if you can sneak upstairs and past as many pats and mobs as possible. You will arrive into a courtyard. Jump out and run to the stables to get the Hammer (On a log inside).

For the Kor Gem, you have to go to Auberdine, in Darkshore. Take the boat in the Wetlands, and talk to Thundris Windweaver. He'll give you a quest. Run south until you reach Ashenvale, and then run west when you reach a path. Keep running northwest from there until you reach the Instance, and swim under the little barrier. Pop up in the otherside, and kill the Naga in there one by one until it drops. Return to Thundris, and then Return to IF to complete the quest.

Followed divietti's instructions for Shadowfang part of the quest - worked great. Died a few times, but was able to solo it at lev 23.

The key thing is that you don't need to kill all the guys by the prison doors. Just pull the lever, go into the cell and talk to the guy. I died right after talking to him and he had opened the door when i came back.

These are the steps needed to get this quest. I do not know if this is the only way to start the quest, but I am on my second Human Paladin and both started this way.

For Alliance, the quest starts at the Stormwind Cathedral. A paladin gives you a quest to go protect a Jordan Stillwell's wife in Westfall (at a farm near the Deadmines exit) from Defias. After you save her, you return to the paladin and then gives you a pretty good shield and the ability to sense undead.

He then sends you to talk to Jordan so Jordan can make you a weapon worthy of your righteousness. Jordan is located right outside the gates of Ironforge. Jordan gives you notes on where the four items he needs to make this mace are (hammer, gem, ore, wood). You then return to Jordan and he makes it for you. Jordan tells you where to get his long lost hammer (SFK) and the wood.

You are then required to find the dwarf in Thelsamar who directs you to find the ore in the Mo'Grosh Stronghold. You have to find the elf in Auberdine and he tells you to go to BFD to get the gem. Without these two subquests, those items won't drop for you if you go straight to the areas.

this quest is so stupid, i did it for like 4 hours just to get the right stuff. first off read what i have to say because it will help you immensilly.

**Whitestone Oak Lumber**
-you must go to deadmines for this. for me, it dropped off the goblins in the room with sneed & his shreddar.

**Jordans Refined Ore Shipment**
-you must go to thelsamar and talk to Bailor. he will give you a quest to get the shipment from the ogre mound & when u return it he will give u the refined one. (the shipment is in the camp somewhere not a drop)

**Jordans Smithing Hammer**
-this is in shadowfang keep. located in silverpine forest. you must go there, and go in the court yard. the hammer is on a crate in the stables with the horses.

**Purified Kor-Gem** (this is the one i hated)
-go to auberdine and in the house that looks like + by the water. at the top of the + there is a guy who will give you a quest to get the gem. kill naga OUTSIDE of the instance and they will drop it. return to him and he will give you the purified one.

I spent 3 hours killing the naga until i read someones comment that u had to talk to a nightelf to give u the quest. ughh...hope this helps everyone!

its a restless mission you have to fly back and forth the world but honestly if you want a better mace then the one that dropped in vc then do this mission all the people that complained about this mission are lil babys becasue after you get all the iteam' you will be leveled up by 2 lvl's maybe 3 so take the time and pascince lol i cant spell but do this mission with someone else not just yourself it will be a hole lot of dieing and flying Hahaha "the truth"

This can officially be done sooner than posted. I am a 22 ret pally that completed the SFK part of this quest.

I am well geared but believe I could have done this at lvl 21 and maybe even lvl 20. If you want to solo this early then pull the first Warg and kill it, then run out of the instance. Run back in, heal up and kill the 2nd Warg, and then run out. Run back in, heal up, and kill Rethilgore. Easy.

For alliance:

The witherbark wood dropped off a goblin in shredders room in deadmines. Don't even have to kill shredder if you take the right company^^,

The ore - talk to Bailor Stonehand in Loch Modan, he's hidden in one of the houses. Across the street from the house next to the inn, he's down inside. Then head up to 72,21 in the Mo'grosh Stronghold, upper right part of the map. It's a box in a camp just outside of the main cave. Take that back to Bailor and he gives you Jordan's Refined Ore Shipment.

The gem - You have to go to Auberdine in Darkshore. Talk to Thundris Windweaver 37,40, north west building in town. He gives you a quest to go get the gem. Run down to BFD (14,14, dive in the water in that building) in Zoram Strand (we flew to Astranaar and ran from there). The gem fell off the first naga we killed, not inside the instance, but inside the entrance under the water. Take it back to Auberdine to get it purified by Thundris Windweaver

The Hammer - Long walk but not too much to fight along the way. 47,69 in silverpine forest, lower left part of map, is path to shadowfang keep (north of pyrewood village). in the door, turn right. up the stairs, follow it around, up more stairs... , down the next stairs on the left to where all the cells are. Rethilgore is here. Middle cell has the guy who opens the door for you, follow him up. foward thru the courtyard, to the stables, jordan's hammer is laying on the box inside.

You'll have to read on to get tips and hints, I just took a 70 preist and walked thru it.

I don't see why people think the ogre part is hard. They aren't elites anymore. Level 20 paladin against 18 ogres. Hmm... Who will win?

For the Kor gem, jump down into the water then pop up on the other side, kill until you get it. I suggest making Auberdine your home before talking to Thundris Windweaver.

For the ore shipment, go to the back of the ogre camp and look for a broken wagon near a tree, you'll find the box next to it. Once more do the same thing you did with the Kor gem.

For the Deadmines part, you will probably need a friend. Just get to the goblins and kill one. Then you can hearth to Westfall or something. If the Deadmines is your last part like mine was, make Westfall your home then just fly to Stormwind and take the tram. Or take the flight directly to Ironforge (just takes longer).

For the Shadowfang Keep part, you might need a friend. Bring one and it doesn't take as long. Get a someone who can kill a lot at a time and in a short amount of time. You don't need to go far, just go to the stables, then look on top of one of the boxes. I emptied my bags almost completely and ran the entire instance. Good moneyz there.

Do it in any order you want. I did mine Kor gem, hammer, ore shipment, wood. I already had most of the flight paths. if you do it the order I did I suggest already having the Thelsamar, Westfall, Stormwind, Ironforge, and Southshore. I never had my Southshore flight path so I had to get it on my way to Silverpine.

Got this quest at the appropriate level, did the first three parts, (Deadmines, Ore Shipment, and Smithing Hammer.) Then got off on a few tangents, (Darkshire, etc.) and all of a sudden I realized I was lvl 32 and had not completed this. I'd put in enough time on the first three parts (plus it was time I made it over to Auberdine anyway) so in spite of the fact that I was probably too high level for the weapon to be much use, I decided not to abandon it.

When I got over to Auberdine, though, had a bit of a panicked moment when I realized that Thundris was NOT showing an exclamation mark or showing up as a yellow dot on map. But when I clicked on him he DID still offer me the Kor Gem quest. He also has three other quests but all are too low to be of much good if you're 30+ as I was so don't bother with them.

It happens I joined a guild right before getting the quest. I asked help for the 1st part (tome of valor) and a lvl 40 pally helped me with it. Once I got this quest i was a litte P.O.ed after reading notes item. I was thinking SILVERPINE?
So i went back. Happed we found another pally do same quest lvl 20. during deadmines he ask us if he can join the guild. He quit old guild and joined ours. we traveled to Loch held out on that quest til later and headed to Silverpine. Shadowfang Keep was awesome with the werewolves and soundtrack.(Shadowfang Moonwalkers are werewolves, all of theyre species deal with night or moon.) Did BFD but other 20th had problem with kor gem. then we hit the hay.
Next day we do oger part and get hammer.

TIP: Go to Silverpine at like 1:30-3:30

man people say tht u cant solo like -26 aahahahaa. there total idiots i soloed everything it was so easy i and gained 3 lvls doin it.people its not tht hard.i say if u just have FUN it is so cool ok. in DM i started soloed till i got wood and was feeling for DM and wow to easy gained 1.5 lvls just for tht then and everything else do the instance with it so easy.

Just ran this whole quest Solo lvl 25 Retro. Take your time, both dungeons are doable solo just take your time.

Ore and Gem didn't even see an elite.

SFK toughest fight was the jailer.

DM toughest fight was the orge boss.

Other then those two fights never had a problem and I didn't die once. (ok when I had 2 elite adds along with jailer in SFK was kissing my ass goodbye but made it)

Did I mention take your time.

I just did this at level 21-22, and for those of you trying this quest at that level without a level 56 buddy or main character to help, or an active guild, here are some tips:

1) Deadmines - this is straightforward as the entrance to the DM usually has a group getting ready that you can tag onto. Take another quest in there with you if you can, eg Van Cleef's Head, as it makes the trip more worthwhile. The oak drops fairly readily from the goblins.

2) Ogres - I tried to solo this and the directions by Vjay on this page hold good, ie use the SE entrance. However, some of the ogres are tough for a lvl 21 to handle alone, and if they are all alive and waiting on your route into the stronghold the best thing to do (I found after dying a few times) is wait for another player to happen along, tell them what you need and go get it. I've been back there for another quest since and whilst I haven't needed help for that one I noticed that usually a player or small party will come along every 20 mins or so. The ogres are fairly well spaced out so you should only expect them to double-team you near the ore itself.

3) BFD - again, the directions on this page are excellent. BFD itself is certainly not one to do solo. The main problem is that the elites down there when you first swim through are too strong and too close together, so you will be constantly double-teamed. You might get lucky with the very first combat if the satyr guard is not there near the priestess, but if she doesn't drop the gem and you have to go further in, lvl 21-22 is too low to last very long. My tip: wait for a group and join. Could be a longish wait as BFD is off the beaten track - I had to wait about half an hour on a Friday evg at 8pm. Make sure you tell them what you want and that the gem actually drops from the mobs before the entrance to the instance. The team I joined was happy to help and the gem dropped on about the 4th priestess. Judging from some of the posts about the gem this is possibly a bit lucky. You can then decide whether or not to leave or go through BFD with your group.

4) SFK - apart from the running, which others have mentioned, the difficulty here is finding help. Again, lvl 21-22 makes soloing SFK a very unpleasant and unlikely prospect. In particular, it's very difficult to pull just a single mob from the first room in the instance. I was always double-teamed and died distressingly quickly. The village right next to SFK is no use for help as no-one visits and late at night it gets taken over by Moonstalkers or similar who attack just about anything that moves. After a very long and fruitless wait at the SFK entrance I eventually went back to Southshore and yelled for help. After a couple of yells a lvl 32 paladin offered to help and he essentially did the job for me in SFK . Diplomatic note: given the time taken in getting to the hammer, you might want to take pity on your guide once you've got it and opt to leave rather than go right through SFK. Get clear on that before you go in as otherwise it's a difficult conversation to have in a courtyard full of mobs.

This is a long and sometimes tedious quest but you do see the world, and the reward and offers of help along the way make it well worth it. Good luck!

Got the quest at 20.. had already done VC at 17 or so.

Start to finish took about 3 hours. By the time I had the mace in my hot little hands I was a little bit into 21.

Happiness is a 56 shaman draenai friend tagging along. Makes the whole thing a breeze.

Make sure on your run from Menehil to Shadowfang that you pick up the flight points in Arathi Highlands (refuge pointe) and Hillsbrad foothills (southshore). You do not want to make that run twice.

Hardest part (solo) is definitely SFK. Need to go right immediatley inside entrance and follow through to cells to free middle prisoner. Could solo this OK as a lvl 24, managing 2 lvl 18-19 elites at once. Careful to pull each group back to a safe place to avoid pulling more. One tip - when get near cells, pull one wolf, then jump off stairs to fight single humanoid before tackling lvl20 jailer and second wolf. Then courtyard is easy if you're careful about pats, and hammer is just inside stables across from stairs.

Most of this quest is relatively easy to do solo. And the entire thing, is, in fact solo-able. I completed it at lvl 23, ret-specced, by myself...well..with just myself and some potions..and food. :]
BFD - Kor Gem
This part was the easiest...this or the ore. To get the gem, you can kill mobs outside the instance. No problem here.
Ore Shipment Part :P
This part was easy also. Just be wary of crowd control. Utilize Consecration if you pull more than one ogre.
DM - Oak Lumber
I died once doing this part. Have mana potions on-hand for sure so you don't die due to mana shortage. Also, the big ogre (forgot his name) is hard to kill..he has mega-HP. Hah. Just keep casting Holy Light or using potions. He takes awhile, but it's not too bad as long as you're careful about healing.
TIP: 1. In the areas with the elite humans...be very sneaky and pull the non-elite mobs nearby with Hand of Reckoning to get them out of the way. It's a bummer when they gang up on you when you're trying to take down the elites. 2. Where the ogre is, pull him when he walks close-ish to the door you opened. That way you won't pull the other 2 mobs at the same time. :D
SFK - Hammer
This part was by far the most challenging. I didn't think I'd be able to do it solo, based on all the comments I've read about people only being able to do it in groups of 2-3 people. Regardless, you CAN do it as long as you are careful. I'll admit, I died 2x. For one reason or another, I ended up in a graveyard right by SFK. I have no idea why some people ended up in Southshore when they died.

SFK: Step-by-Step:
Step 1: Make sure you're geared up and buffed. I had Blessing of Might, Seal of Command, and Ret Aura up. I also was well-fed and made sure I stayed that way the whole time. Bring some food and drink. Also bring a few mana potions - I went through 8. You might want to put weightstones on your weapon if you have them. Every little bit helps.
Step 2: Enter the instance. Look to the right. Be very careful and pull one of the mobs with Hand of Reckoning...you will aggro both. Cast Exorcism while the mobs are approaching. Then cast (I use Judgement of Light to keep my health up), then hit Consecration to take care of the other mob while you're attacking the first one. Heal as needed. Continue into the room the mobs were in.
Step 3:Jump up onto the railing of the stairs and press TAB to select the next mob. I don't remember how many will aggro, but no more than 2 at this point. Take care of all the mobs in the room...
Step 4: The next area will aggro 3 mobs, but it's do-able. Just heal whenever your health gets close to 2/5 empty. That should give enough time to cast Holy Light. Once the mobs are dead, go ahead and rebuff, heal, eat (for well-fed bonus) and drink potions.
Step 5: Jump up onto the railing that's perpendicular to the stairs...not the handrail that goes down, but the one that connects to it...if you get what I mean. It should be right next to you if you didn't enter the room to kill the mobs. Make sure you jump on the part that turns into the handrail..that's right next to the stairs. I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense. You should aggro only 1 mob...kill him after he runs up the stairs to attack you. :P
Step 6: Pull another mob with Hand of Reckoning...the other 2 should come attack you also. It's okay if you die. Just try to kill as many as possible. If you die (I did), when you return to the instance, you can just run through to where you were. The mobs won't respawn..(to my knowledge). Kill the other two after you rebuff, yadda-yadda..etc.
Step 7: Pull the lever and the guy (I did the middle one..I dunno about the other 2) will unlock the door to the courtyard. Don't run into the courtyard. Instead, back up and get a good look around the courtyard.
Step 8: Make sure you have Retribution Aura up at this point. The human spirit-like things you kill will put a curse on you that will spawn random lvl 20 ghosts. They're quite the annoyance. If you have Ret Aura up, that'll kill them with no effort on your part.
Step 9: Slowly pull mobs into the room with the door. I pulled the lady who walks around the fountain first...and then a wolf. Just take it easy and you'll be fine. Make sure you stick to the wall on the left when you enter the courtyard. When you get close to the stables (directly in front of you when you enter the courtyard), pull the mob of two...a wolf and a humanoid wolf...to the right of the barn. Make sure you're relatively distant from the stables (not too far, but yeah..not close enough where you'll aggro the mob in the stables.) Take care of the mob of two you just pulled, then take a deep breath! Just one more mob to kill and then you can obtain the missing hammer! :D
Step 10: Peer into the stables and aggro the last mob...mine was a humanoid wolf-person. :P Worgen? I forget. Anyway, lead him out of the stables so you don't accidentally do something to make the horses attack you. (Learned the hard way. Heh.) Lead him to the left-hand wall you need to stick to as to not aggro any other mobs. Kill him and prance on over to the glittery box in the stables. Kneel down and pick it up - the glorious missing hammer! The fruit of your labor!
Step 11: Stick the pretty hammer that's sparkling and reflected in your anticipating eyes into your backpack and hearth yourself out of there!
Step 12: Get the guy to make the weapon he has promised you.
Step 13: Don your awesome new hammer with PRIDE! :D

First thanks to all who put together this information, very nice job.

Just so you have an idea of what level can do this alone, I soloed this quest tonight at level 25 in about 4.5 hours, mostly due to finding stuff.
The hardest part by far was the foreman in the deadmines getting to the goblin lumberer's area, used all my mana but not LoH. Otherwise it was all relatively easy. The part I was told would be the hardest, blackfathom deeps, was one of the easiest. The mobs are lvl 21 to 23 elites but are easy single pulled and shouldnt be anywhere near a match for you.
There is also a nice quest in auberdine from gershawon (sp) for items that drop of the creatures you will be killing for the kor gem anyway, nets you 2200 extra exp.

The worst part is Shadowfang Keep, with the honor patch is really hard to stay alive...
When you're in, no problems anymore thougt, only be alert not to aggro more than 2 mobs. You should be able to pull one mob alone quite everytime though.

P.S. Try to have the quest before managing to kill Van Cliff, so you'll clear the Deadmines in party and get the Whitestone Oak Lumber really easily

the quest starts at the stormwind cathedral. you have to do the protect daphne quest before you get this one.

I got the oak lumber with a pick up group for the deadmines. First drop from a goblin.

And I got the ore shipment with help from a lvl 23 warrior. But I think I could have solo'd it (I was level 22 at the time). The shipment was outside for me and NOT in the caves, it was next to some boxes.

I finally got the purified kor gem. I managed to solo it at level 23. However I had to kill at least 15 nagas before it would drop! I went CRAZY. I managed to pull one at a time but although this is soloable at lvl 23 I would recommend getting some help.

I'm going to try and get the hammer tomorrow. Not looking forward to it.

I too had a bit of a problem getting the Kor Gem to drop. If you are having the same problem, you more than likely forgot to talk to Thundris Windreaver. This is a necessary step and it seems if you don't talk to him, the gem will never drop.

I just finished this quest at level 25 and it is very well worth it. I am soloing level 29 mobs with the hammer now!. I did it all just me and a level 29 rogue. It starts in the cathedral in Stormwind. the description is very easy to follow. I think the refined ore part is easiest and you might want to do that first.

I solo'd the SFK segment at 25. Not too hard. Most of the Shadowfang wolfen things aggro with a Worg. But, it's not much bad. If you can single-pull, great. I was able to solo most singles without even healing.

The hardest part was the cells. The cell keeper fella (20e) aggroed with 2 Worgs (18e). That was a bit of a pain. I simply ran to the zone line and they obliged me by waiting for me to come back in.

Worst part was, I was hoping for a decent drop off the cell keeper... nope. Dropped Rugged Paulders...White, Leather Shoulders :( Couldn't even some junk green that I could DE.

The courtyard is very easy if you are not impatient. Just go in far enough to aggro one (or two) mob, go back to stairs to kill it. Rinse, Repeat.

The ghosts are 20e, but with your Exorcism, they are an easy kill. They curse you with weak ghosts, but again, if you are patient wait out the 5 minutes, killing the chumpy ghosts that pop up before taking on a real opponant. I suggest waiting, because the ghosts, while only having 50ish HP, will hit you and interrupt your casting if fighting someone else, and if you turn to kill them instead, you are wasting time.

I didn't need and healing or mana potions. I just drank melon juice or hit myself with BoW between fights. If soloing, be patient.

With some patience, and careful crowd control, with a tad of engineering (okay, a lot), I was able to solo the entire quest with my 24 pally. Patience really was the key with this, so I had to keep my cool with crowd control, suffering two deaths in the process (one in SFK, one in VC).

It's not too difficult as long as you're not reckless, but engineering really helped with this one.

I soled this today at 22ret with standard gear thanks to posts here. If you are having problem with jailer at sfk, just pull and run to instance door. (don't fight them by the stairs) Kill one wolf and get out..and repeat.

I noiced after I did the turnin for each part to the seconary NPC, I was able to get the quest AGIN!

Man this was to easy i solo'd the ogres alon for the crate then i went to the deadmines with a group took the item from the goblins no problem.Then i ask the first high level guy i see named:Iwannabeer level 50 something pally he runs me through BFD took only few minutes for the item to drop he ran me through SFK which seemed to be the hardest cause of the big mobs that come at u.I went to give the items and there it was i had it at level 21 and went to duskwood and was able to pwn guys 4 levels higher than me:)I tell u get this wep and u will rule so badly.

Did this solo at lvl 23. As mentioned previously, you can get the gem and the ore shipment without facing any elites. For the hammer, you have to enter the SFK instance, but you only have to face one boss. You will have to be able to take on two elites at once, but they aren't that tough. The jailor is tricky, as there are 2 elites near him, try to get the one by the stairs solo before getting the jailor.
Deadmines can be soloed as far as you need to go, which is the mast room. The only boss you will have to face is the ogre, who hits hard, so don't wait too long to heal. Make sure you pull him when he is furthest away from the two defias. Once you get to the mast room, try to pull one goblin without aggroing any others, as they are tough. I was lucky that the wood dropped from the first one, as I aggroed two more just as he died, and was just able to loot him before getting killed. I didn't try going any further into the instance, but I got what I came for.

I solo'd this at 25 (2200 xp at turn in dinged me to 26). The hardest part was Shadowfang Keep. There were 4 mobs, (1 named), in front of the jail cells. Took patience, but I managed to pull just one to begin, then pulled named and another. Final mob was then easy.

When the NPC opens the courtyard door, just clear a path down the left wall to the stables. Shouldn't have to kill more than 5-6. Mostly the wandering wolves and humans. I highly recommend pulling the mob back up the steps and inside.

Since Allakhazam hasn't posted stats for the hammer yet, and many people won't scroll all the way down to first post, here's what you get:

Ore - Easy, just in and out. No probs.
Lumber - Pick up a group. Its way easier than soloing. I did it with three late teens and my GM ( a level 49 hunter).
Hammer - Did it with a level 30 guildie priest. The bit with the cell keeper is easy, just remember to pull carefully when you go out into the courtyard, we ended up fighting about 6 mobs.
Kor Gem - BFD is in the north east of Ashenvale (not the almost identical place in the north of Darkshore where i spent an hour trying to find the way into the instance). When you've swum down, you´'ll see a satyr and a naga further behind him. Agrro the satyr and run to the edge of the water - theres a stealthed patrol. Gem dropped off the first naga mob for me.

I managed to solo SFK with 0 deaths at level 28. Found something cool. The jail cell keeper, like all other mobs, has a certain aggro range... if you're within the level range that is out of his immediate aggro range, you can jump down the first balcony with the lone Shadowfang there... and only get that shadowfang and a worg on ya. Then it's smooth sailing from there; back into the corner and you're fine.

I wanted to keep going through the keep and managed to solo up to Baron Silverlaine, in that huge hall. No way any 28 can solo that, hehehe....

So all in all, great drops, 0 deaths, and a shiny new hammer on the way!

Double-teamed this with another pally, LOVED it! Double-teaming pally's are the best thing since Jackie Chan!
The hammer was a bit of a chore (specially getting there, that much is a given), but the rest was a joke. Word to the wise tho : do NOT forget to talk to the local quest people, we spent over an hour clearing the whole of BFD until we realised we hadn't talked to Thundris. >_<

The Wood - I'm not going to lie here, I did have a group because i had at quest where i had to kill VC, but it's very soloable. The Gem is in Deadmines, in the room with the goblins in it. It dropped on my first kill. :)

The Ore - Haha? Are you kidding me? The orges there are level 19/20 and they are not elite.. they might was.. but not now. You have to pick up a quest before doing the ore quest, you can get this quest from Loch Modan and the person to give the quest is named Bailor Stonehand.

The hammer - This is not as tricky as people say it is, only thing you have to do is pull them 1 by 1, Some times you might even get 3/2 with you. Just use your Consecration and use your seal of Light to heal up some, If your HP start dropping just heal or drink a potion. I had to use LOH (Lay on hands) One time, because i pulled 3 monsters. The boss is REAL easy, but he have annoying stun or something that keeps you out the fight for some secs. When you kill The boss, open the gate that's in the middle and talk to the guy and tell him to open the gate for you. STAY ON THE LEFT WALL, and kill all the mobs, you will soon make it to the stables, DO NOT USE CONSECRATION IN THE STABLES, it will bring those 3 elite horse into the battle. After that.. just pick up the hammer and get out. The hammer is in Shadowfang Keep, which is in Silverpine Forest, Near Pyrewood Village.

The Gem - Just take a Boat from Stormwind to Auberdine, After that MAKE SURE YOU TALK TO Thundris Windweaver or you can not finish this part. When you get the Quest you have to go to BRD. Which is in Ashenvale, It's on the Coast where the water is at. When you see BRD, jump down into the water. You will see some Naga's down here. Kill some (Got mines on 2nd kill) Bring gem back to Thundris Windweaver. There you go, Good luck.

Weird thing happened to me. I soloed this easily at lvl 39, but when I got to the stable, the wretched horses attacked me and I had to kill them. When I was done, no hammer. I went back, remembered to talk to the plague man in the cell, killed everything and got the door opened and went back. Didn't get attacked by the horses this time and lo and behold, there was the hammer..Wondering if killing the horses was significant or if I needed to talk to the sick guy in the cell?

Solo'd all of it at 26 except the Shadowfang keep part. I managed to get a part where there were 2 wolves and a named lvl 20. Couldn't single pull them, or manage to take one out without dying. Had my guild help me, and now I am enjoying my new hammer.

By far the most difficult part of this quest is Shadowfang keep. I was able to solo it at level 27 with one death. Two mobs at a time was my limit, but you should be able to pull that off fairly easily until you get to the jail.

The fight with the named boss guarding the jail was the only death I had in this entire quest. You can take out the other werewolf in the room, but from what I could see you can't get him or either of the wolves without aggroing the other two. What I did was pull them back to the instance entrance, kill one wolf, step out and heal, step right back in and kill the other wolf, and then finally come back in and finish the boss off.

With even just one person helping you it should be a breeze though.

The quest is bugged - U have to be the first one after a restart or one of the first few in rder to get the crate in the Ogre area to be clickable. I can see it there by the wagon but cannot click it. I talked to a number of others and they said that it is indeed bugged.

Have the FPs. I didn't, but the Hunter with me had aspect of pack, so that helped.

Took me awhile (I'd say about 30 Naga and about 13 of the Demons that are in the way) to get the gem to drop. Took me about 3.5 hours, but I had a lvl 41 hunter helping. I did it at lvl 20. The hunter had no trouble, obiviously, killing the mobs.

I already have the quest reward (and have trashed it by lvl 24) yet I was given the quest AGAIN? I'm only a lvl 26 pally but this is confusing. How could I have completed the quest several levels ago and yet still get it again? This is too much to bear! Help me Blizzard! My lvl 70 lock is having enough "issues" in Outland!

Done it in Classic around 24-27 levels with the help of same level prot warrior. Worst two parts are Shadowfang Keep and Blackfathom Deeps due to travel and group requirement.

The Shadowfang keep part is not so difficult, we actually ended up two maning almost entire dungeon, but the hammer itself is in the beginning at the stables.

The Blackfathom deeps part was easy, except a lot of travel. You can go into the dungeon itself, or you can kill some lvl 22 elite nagas at the entrance. I did the first thing. REMEMBER to take the Gem quest from Darkshore, it's in the bulding to the left from the shipyard bridge coming from the ships.

The DM part is easy, just don't forget to loot.

The Lock Modan part was the easiest. The box is among some lvl 18 ogres which are easy to deal with. I walked among them at lvl 27.

All in all takes two or three dedicated evenings.

I wanted to capture one part of this quest that isn't abundantly clear. In order to get the corrupted Kor Gem you need to get the Quest "Seeking the Kor Gem" from Thundris Windreaver in Auberdine in Darkshore. You only need to kill Blackfathom Priestesses or Oracles in the tunnels leading to the BFD dungeon. Once you have the corrupted Kor Gem bring it back to Thundris Windreaver to get the Purified Kor Gem for your Pally quest. Hopefully this helps!

Grabbed the quest just outside Ironforge gates and headed to Deadmines. Farmed some exp there first, did the Deadmines part while doing normal dungeon runs at level 22, soloed the others at lvl24.

Dun Morogh part was really easy, just remember to take the quest from Thelsamar, go loot the item at the elite ogre area and return the quest. Very easy to avoid the ogres and loot it, though the ogres don't do much damage anyways.

BFD part was really easy too, just lots of running. Remember to take the quest from Darkshore here too. Quest item dropped from first elite I saw when heading to BFD, no need to enter dungeon or even go near the entrance. Grabbed Astranaar fp while in Ashenvale and flew back to Darkshore to deliver quest.

SFK part was soloable at 24 with sword&shield. Did the first packs (wolf + worgen) one by one focusing wolf first (dies faster), kept retri aura and blessing of wisdom on and it was np. First boss was just as easy with same tactics. Then cleared the left side of the next "inner yard" area. Had to pull couple worgens there at once but it was np at all, they do antimagic shield anyways so just switched to devotion aura. Just remember to heal up early. Looted the quest item next to the horses, absolutely no cooldowns needed here either.

Hearthstoned to Ironforge and returned the quest outside the gates. 875 exp from returning the first part and 2200 exp and AN AMAZING 2H MACE from the second part ^^

23 Paladin completed it using these steps:

1. : carefully weave your way through the ogres to get to the box.
2. Purified Kor Gem: see my mini-guide in that item's comments.
3. Jordan's Smithing Hammer & Whitestone Oak Lumber: the following method works really well:

a. Go to the zone for each dungeon.
b. Type /who <zone name> and/or /who <dungeon name>
c. Send a tell to whatever high level dude (60 is best) is there farming, asking if he can help you to the quest objective.
d. High level dude usually is like, "sure, whatever man, I'm bored farming <insert rare item name> for my alt anyway." Heal him and stuff, so you are at least helping.
e. Promise to return the favor some day, /friend the dude.
f. Hearth out.
g. Keep your promise, you're a Paladin.

These days finding anybody willing to spend time in a low-level instance is like finding an honest person in Washington. In theory they are out there but in practice you'll still be looking when the heat-death of the universe approaches.

Solo'd at level 25 in Hardcore Classic with relative ease!

I won't be explaining the Kor Gem or the Ore Shipment as these two items are not a challenge to obtain even in the slightest, you should be able to solo these even at lower levels and they don't require going into an instance.

But if you're like me and can't get a group for Deadmines (no one wanted an overleveled paladin, sadge) or Shadowfang Keep (Alliance L, no quests), then this guide is for you.

Here's what you should do:

Prerequisites
Obviously I didn't go into this unprepared. Have food for buffs, have water and most importantly, HAVE A GOOD WEAPON.
I was Holy specced at this moment for Consecration which you will not be using either way, so you DO NOT need to have Seal of Command. A decent green with 18-19 DPS is more than enough. I personally was using Rakzur Club (18.3 DPS) and got by just fine. I can not stress how important a good weapon is, so don't go into this with a 10 DPS one-hand and a shield.

The Whitestone Oak Lumber (Deadmines Solo)
=======================================

I would consider this one to be the hardest, and I certainly recommend obtaining the quest early and doing it with a group, or having a friend help you. However, that's not what this post is about. We're here to solo it on Hardcore.

Firstly, clear mostly everything leading up to the boss. You don't need to clear everything, mostly as that would be a waste of time (also be aware of respawn timer). Just enough so that you are able to cleanly run back to the entrance and zone out, should you need it. I advise taking it slow, and a good strategy for the Flamestrike-spamming Evokers is to move, and line of sight them. When they cast Flamestrike, it casts to where you stood when the cast begun, so by moving roughly 15-20 yards away from that spot you won't get hit at all, and moving out of LoS will ensure they won't immediately cast it again.

The hardest part of Deadmines Solo is the first boss, Rhahk'zor. He has roughly 4.5K health and hits for nearly 100 per auto attack. He can be especially deadly as he will knock you down which interrupts your heals, and he can easily crit you for 200 damage sending you right back to Elwynn Forest.
He has two guards, but these will not be important as we won't be fighting them at the same time.

My number 1 tip for this boss is to use Blessing of Wisdom. The mana sustain is incredibly important and will ensure your survival. This fight takes a while, and without it you will be out of mana before he even reaches 75%.

When pulling him, make sure that he has patrolled as far away from the locked door as possible (towards you). If he is as far up as he can be, and you pull him with a careful Judgement, you won't aggro the two guards making this kill... actually possible. Once you're fighting him just make sure to heal yourself often (only with Holy Light) and get a few swings in here and there. As long as you keep yourself alive, he will eventually die.

Once he's dead, make sure to kill the patrol coming from behind before you pull the two guards and you will be just fine.

Once you're at the lumber room (the room with Sneed's Shredder), pull the first goblin to your left and you should get the lumber first kill. If not, try to pull a different one that you can get alone. The goblins attack very fast, making it incredibly hard to get a heal off if there are two of them on you, but it's not impossible. I pulled two myself and came out unscathed.

Jordan's Smithing Hammer (Shadowfang Keep Solo)

This one was honestly the easier of the two instances. It did require almost always pulling two mobs at a time, whereas with Deadmines you usually only have to pull one, but Shadowfang Keep doesn't require you to kill any bosses.

For every pull leading up to the first boss and the locked door to the courtyard, you will have 1 worgen "Whitescalp" and 1 worg. What's important to note here, is that the Whitescalp has Frost Armor which slows your attack speed and cast speed, and the Worg has a magic debuff which also slows your attack and cast speed. YOU MUST kill the Worg first, and then the Whitescalp, otherwise these two debuffs stack and suddenly your attacks and casts take twice as long and you're likely dead.

All packs leading to the boss are identical, always containing 1 of each of these, so it's just a simple rinse and repeat strategy. There can be times where you can manage to pull only one of each.

Once you're at Rethilgore, the first boss, you want to just jump down with a YOLO attitude. As there are 3 other mobs by the boss who will guaranteed pull, you can not solo kill these. Other strategies for this boss includes: dying. Not recommended.

When you jump down you want to make sure that you land by the middle gate and lever. Pull the lever as fast as you can and talk to the Sorcerer inside the cell to make him open the gate. Once you've spoken to him, and ONLY then, may you pop Divine Protection and book it back out of the instance. Be sure to jump over the railing back at the first room to get down, as it forces the mobs to take a longer route to get to you. Once outside, make sure you aren't in combat before re entering.

This leads you to the courtyard which is far easier to manage. Pull carefully on the left side and pull all the mobs back up the staircase. The Worgens in this area will cast an anti-magic shell, so I advise to just use Seal of the Crusader here for damage output. While they're casting anti-magic shell, it gives you a perfect opportunity to cast a heal on yourself. Overall very easy to deal with. Clear down to the stable and then loot your hammer. DO NOT pull the horses.

Updates for Season of Discovery:

1. Whitestone Oakstone Lumber: no change, requires Dead Mines run. You will naturally fight the target mobs in the dungeon run, hard to miss them. Drop rate is very high.
2. Jordan's Refined Ore Shipment: no change, requires completing Bailor's Lost Shipments in Loch Modan. You will be going into an area of elites, but if you're level 22-23, these elites will pose no trouble at all. The lost shipment will be in an open area, so not even a cave. Easily solo-able.
3. Purified Kor Gem: much more difficult to solo now, since this is now the phase 1 raid, and all elites outside of the BFD instance are now level 25. Will probably need a group for this now. It generally drops pretty quickly, but unlucky ones may have to kill 10+ elites.
4. Jordan's Smithing Hammer: same as before. solo-able but with effort. You will fight mostly level 18 to 19 elites inside the SFK instance. Pull no more than 2 at a time. Fighting 2 at the same time can be tough and it is unavoidable for a few groups. Use cooldowns liberally for them. It's very helpful to pull the pairs to the entrance of the instance, so once you kill one out of the pair you can run away from the fight by stepping out and back in. Prioritize the wolf over the Worgen. On occasions where single pull is possible, the elites should pose little threat. Once you get to the boss room where the NPC is held in a cell, you don't need to kill anything there. Simply walk in, pull the lever to open his cell and talk to him to open the door. You can either die and corpse run or Divine Shield and run out of the instance and run back. The door to the courtyard is now open. Hug the left wall, and pull the elites one by one. There is one pair that you'll have to fight at the same time. Once your path is clear, the stable is only a short distance from the stairs.

This might be helpful if you're an idiot like me. If you're farming Nagas for the Kor Gem, make sure you pick up the quest "Seeking the Kor Gem" in Darkshore first: Seeking the Kor Gem

The gem will not drop until you have that quest picked up. So don't be an idiot like me and farm Nagas for an hour expecting the gem to drop when you don't even have the quest for it.
