You'll control a Titan's "weapon". You have 5 abilities : cleave, electric discharge, heal, evocation and "divine shield".

I suggest you start from the bottom of Avalanche and climb it killing the mobs on your way, so you get used to your abilities by the time you arrive to the last guy.

Killing the 200 undead should be easy, you can pack them and spam cleave, or if you have enough mana and won't have health problem you can use the electric discharge.

For the 3 named ones it would be useful to clean a maximum the area around and only concentrate on them. Be sure to heal yourself and use evocation before every boss and DONT use evocate during a boss, you get hit 5 times harder during the evocation.

-Bythius the Flesh-Shaper is wandering in the bottom right part of Avalanche, he has 2 elite dog helping him but it's the easiest one to kill.
-Urgreth of the Thousand Tombs is in the middle left, not really hard too. More health than the other one but he is alone (not counting little undead around him). He does an AE attack, just step back a few seconds (maybe a few evocation ticks can help if you are not attacked by small undeads)
-Hailscorn is standing just above Urgreth. The hardest to kill. He sometimes raise skeletons to help him, more often than you can do you electric discharge thing. Moreover, since he has a lot of health and hits quite hard, I suggest keeping your mana to heal yourself and only spam cleave until it's over.

The "divine shield"-like removes you from combat and resets any fight in progress, the mobs will stop attacking you. It's more like a self divine intervention actualy

For Bythius, I just spammed Colossal Strike (Cleave)
Against Urgreth, I spammed the cleave and walked out of the AoE attack. Worth saving the Reconstruction (heal) if you get a tick on you.
Against Haliscorn, I just held on to Cataclysm (the AoE) and hit it every time the swarm of undead appeared and mashed Colossal Strike otherwise. He didn't cast the swarm about as often as I had Cataclysm up to kill it.

Bunching up the undead for Cataclysms makes the 200 Scourge requirement easy and fun to get and the helms are a very nice reward for all the fun you have with Etymidian.

Bythuis is easy. Spam Colossal Strike, heal if you need to.
Urgreth, spam Colossal Strike. Run out on the AoE and heal/evocate (evocate while out of the AOE) as needed.
Haliscorn, spam Colossal Strike. Use cataclysm when he summons the group. He does not hit hard. Keep your back to the wall, he does a wing buffet.

If you need to evocate so you can heal, you can drop off edges and not take fall damage.
If you die on the avalanche, you will rez at the gy.
If you run off the avalanche, you lose the summon.

Don't make the mistake I did of using his invincibility ability while fighting the tougher undead. They'll try to attack a few times then reset with full health. Not sure why this ability was added since all it will usually do is put you in a worse position to deal with an overealming situation.

this should really be a 2 person group there is no exp from the kills so just make it easy for yourself

team up with some on before or spam in /1 or /y as u cant select the person once on the "weapon"

For Bythius, just run up and cleave until he dies, maybe having to heal once or twice. If for some reason after healing twice (getting a ton of unlucky parries/dodges/misses) you're still running low and he won't die before you do, just run sideways while spamming cleave and he will probably never hit you.

For Urgeth, he hits quite hard, your best bet is to just kite him while cleaving (it has a surprisingly long range), very easy to do because of how slow he is. His one spell hurts a lot but it seems he never casts it if you're using the kite method .

For Hailscorn, just stand there and beat on him, using your aoe whenever it says he summons so and so. Other than that, you might only have to heal once.

Great end to a very fun quest chain.

edit: Also the divine shield-like ability, while saying you cannot cast abilities under it still allows you to use your aoe, good for it you make a mistake on any of the three bosses and want to clear a space out so you can re-summon Etymidian. Also you cannot click it off.

Like all the other "get in a vehicle and kill elite mobs" quests, unless you are an extremely competent player, don't bother. It's not worth the dozens of gold in post-death repairs. If you have any doubts that you are a highly capabable player, give these vehicle quests a miss until you have honed your game skills; BG practice may help if like me you find you are dying quickly on all these quests.

And yes, I tried the tactics listed above. You need to be fast on your fingers if you are to use them successfully.

I was half-expecting Hailscorn to be tough, but he only did the rez thing twice, both times my aoe CD was up.

Bottom line for all of them is spamming Cleave. For the last boss, spam Cleave and just use the AOE when he calls up the skellies.

"Wikt" has the best strategy; I did exactly what his strategy suggests and everything was perfect.

I would add, just clear up the mobs around the bosses and walk backwards out of the aoe on Urgeth; heal/evocate while he does his thing. Knockback from Hailscorn didn't seem to have any effect on health.

It's really not a difficult fight, have fun! :)

I must be doing something wrong, 90% of my attacks are dodged, parried, or miss altogether. I'm a hunter, as so my melee weapon skills arent at max, I'm hoping this does not some how factor into it.

This is a very easy quest once you get the hang of it. But to save you the trouble of having to do that, I did it for you. Heres how.

BEFORE every boss fight, lure the area around each boss and use your AoE power to kill pesky mobs. Once thats done, heal yourself. After you heal use your mana regen power. This way you start every fight with 100% HP and Mana. You can also leave & re enter the vehicle but thats no fun. :P If you lure the boss while you're prepping you can use your bubble. You will lose all agro, even from the boss.

FIRST BOSS: Nice and easy, all you have to do is spam your cleave. Heal when neccesary... never over 30k HP. Avoid your AoE like the plague.

SECOND BOSS: More of the same. Spam cleave, avoid AoEs like the plague. He will channel a spell that does very high damage. You will be warned. THIS SPELL KILLS. RUN FROM IT. Once again, conserve your mana. Heal ONLY below 30k HP.

Third Boss: As with the other two bosses, spam cleave. It costs no mana.. mana which you defenately need for this fight. He will summon an undead army.. the second he does that, you can use your AoE. In the time that I was able to kill him he only managed to pull off two summons. If you conserve your mana and use it only for heals you will be fine.

For me, Urgeth was actually the hardest to kill because of the amount of damage he does, and the fact that I was stupidly tanking him head-on (don't do it). After dying twice I came back here to re-read the suggestions because I'd remembered someone suggested something about getting near (between) Urgeth and the ledge he's overlooking and fighting him there.

Tilgare suggested:

What I did for Urgeth was I got him to the edge near the ramp so I could drop down when he started to channel and then I kited him back up so I could drop back down the next time. Worked like a charm.

Factsfountain suggested:

It's easy to deal with the second boss if you kite him to the edge of the cliff that has the ramp under it. when he starts casting the AOE, just drop down quickly and you'll be out of range of his dark energy attack. you can even evocate during this time, then charge back in. I barely even had to use the AOE to kill him except towards the end.

The first thing I did was clear all the Scourge mobs near Urgeth. Second, I ran (haha, as fast as the Etymidian can run) to Urgeth and positioned myself between him and the ledge he's overlooking (in other words, I faced Urgeth with my back to the open air behind me). I hit him with Cataclysm first and then spammed Colossal Strike. I forget the correct amount but Urgeth hits you about 5-6 times before he casts; the split second I saw Urgeth casting his AoE, I dropped down backwards off the ledge and healed and restored mana. Urgeth didn't hit me with his AoE because I was out of range; and by the time he got to me I was at full-health and nearly full-up on mana (Urgeth came down the ledge after me as I expected him to---he did not run back to his original spot and heal as some people have mentioned).

I repeated the same attack plan where I was now standing, simply because I was near another ledge and could drop down to avoid his AoE a second time. So, I hit him with Cataclysm and then spammed Colossal Strike until Urgeth started casting, dropped down (again, backwards) off the ledge, healed and restored mana. By the time Urgeth got to me again it only took one more Cataclysm and a couple of Colossal Strikes to finish him off.

A huge thank you to Tilgare and Factsfountain for the advice; a nice reward is waiting so this quest is definitely worth doing...good luck.

PS Sorry for the lengthy post; just trying to help. ;)

Not sure if its a bug or intentional, but you can use your flying mount while on the titan's shoulder, so if your titan dies, you can fly away rather than being owned by the ghouls or bosses.

I have to say that Hailscorn was without ANY doubt the easiest of the three. I probably had it easier since I'm a blood specced Death Knight. Whenever Hailscorn called forth his frozen corpses my Cataclysm not only killed them all off, but also granted my Etymidian 400-500 hp/kill which practically got him back to full health.

I was dreading the last fight due to the comments here (especially considering that everybody think the first 2 are easy, while the 3rd is hard), but I really had a much harder time with Bythius and Urgreth than with Hailscorn.

the whole thing is easy if you know how to do it, but if you dont know the boss fights, you can make some mistakes. the first mistake is to not read but just use evocate while a boss is smashing away at you, the second is that you should run away from urgeth when he is casting the aoe (he is still the hardest boss, the only reason i killed him was that there was another guy with this quest but i did make this mistake), the third mistake is to not use your aoe when the frostwyrm uses his undead spell, he is too weak to kill you so u can just save mana for when he uses undead spell. fourth is to wait until the last possible second to use divine shield-if you know your beat, use it cause when the "weapon" dies, you will get one-shotted.

p.s, idk if someone clarified this, but someone at the top of the chat thought cleave took away mana....it does not!

As I actually managed to die once during this quest due being careless, and after reading the other tips for this quest, I decided to add my own ways of finishing this:

Urgreth of the Thousand Tombs:
* Beyond doing melee damage he also has AE attack that will quickly kill you if won't move out of it. If you're a bit slow to react the first blast will hit you, and as such I'd advice healing before you drop below 50k HP. Once out of the AoE use the mana regen ability until he's almost close enough to hit you.

Hailscorn
* This one has two abilities it seemed to use in row: First knockback, then add summoning. The way I dealt with this one was the opposite that Dosvidaniya suggested: Instead of standing back to a wall, I made sure I got knocked down. When he did the knockback I would first regen mana to full, then heal myself. After that I would wait until both Hailscorn AND the adds were in range and use the AoE to get rid of them and the random mobs around where you landed. Don't mind the random adds you get knocked in - they die along with Hailscorn's adds and as you heal to full after each knockback you should never be below 30% HP anyway. About the only thing you can do wrong here is to use AoE too early and get ripped to shreds by Hailscorn's adds.

Buthius the Flesh-Shaper
* This one has two adds. Just get all three inside your frontal cone and cleave-spam them to death. Heal if necessary.

Be very sure to make sure you do not leave the zone when fighting Hailscorn, or you will lose Etymidian, and die a rather hilarious death.

Now that I know how to slaughter these things, I might want to come back. it's not difficult to find a helm at least as good as you get from the quest, so I don't really need to turn it in. Against Haliscorn. I suggest you face your back against the mountain the entire time since he does a knockback. Soon as you are low on mana turn him over and let him launch you off the clift. Then Cataclysm any adds you might have aggroed and mana up. You WON'T lose aggro and you DON'T take fall damage. you'll have a full heal and 100% mana. Easy fight and you won't have to conserve mana at all. go nuts

This wasn't too hard. Kiting Urgreth worked wonderfully. Took 2 tries, but after I got the feel of kiting that slow golem, it worked fine. And I might add a spiffy helmet to boot. Thanks for the strategies.

Also, you can do this as a group quest. I was getting annoyed with it and I ran into somebody else trying to do it at the same time so we grouped and with two Etymidian's pounding on them at the same time they went down hard and fast.

Also for Urgreth of the Thousand Tombs its essential you back way the hell up for when he pulls his AOE because if you dont it will kill you.

My thoughts on the objectives:

Killing 200: Easy. They do as much damage to The Etymidian as the level one critters do to you. Just herd em up and use the discharge power.

Bythius: Pretty easy. Just use cleave and the occasional discharge, he should be gone in no time.

Urgeth: I found him the hardest be far. When he's using his dark power, stay back, it's a good time to use evocation. Otherwise, he does the most damage on his own, so you'll need that mana to heal. This battle is all about timing.

Haliscorn: Doesn't do a lot of damage on his own, but summons an army. It may have changed since muarfy did it, because the armies were less frequent than the cooldown on static discharge for me. I originally went with his strategy, but found the army did substantial damage. I recommend simply using cleave until the army is summoned, then discharge it before they have a chance to attack. Repeat as they spawn, and he shouldn't be too Hard.

I too had lots of trouble with Urgreth

Until that is I realised one thing : He can't hit you with his AOE if you're on the ledge below him.

I gave it a go : I would start off Colossal Strike to pull him. Then I would position him so that when I strafted left I would fall off the cliff.

I would keep spamming Colossal Strike and when he started doing his AOE shadow thingy I would leap off the cliff. While he wasted his time running down I would pop my evo and heal then run up to meet him. You don't want him to get too far away from you or take too long to run down as I've had him reset when he's too far from me

Wash , rinse repeat

Confirmed! Worked excellent, just keep running around so that you keep Urgreth in movement, and he wont cast :)

Lucky for me, I saw two others doing the quest and they appeared to be helping each other so I joined in. After that they hung around to do it again so I got credit on the third boss and also helped me on the second boss, then I helped them out again so we all got the kills we needed. Saved me lots of time and trouble trying to figure those other bosses out, the first was hard enuff for me!

I'll say this... the titans sure didn't design Etymidian with the expertise stat in mind. Bythius and Urgreth must've parried half my Colossal Strikes.

Aside from that, it's fairly simple.

For Bythius, it's just spankage, and heal yourself once during the fight, you shouldn't need to evocate.

For Urgreth, run away IMMEDIATELY when he starts casting his AOE. This also gives you enough time to cast a heal and evocate. You'll need both, as he deals heavy damage and you'll need to cast Cataclysms to deal damage back.

For Hailscorn, it's simple, just time Cataclysms so that you do it when he spawns the adds.

You are all way over thinking these, I did it with no problems.

Bythuis - Just keep spamming Colossal Strike, make sure you are also hitting his dog things to so they go down. I didn't have to heal but was very low so throw a heal if you want. I Didn't use anything else this fight beside Heal and Colossal Strike

Urgreth - Again spam your Colossal Strike. When it says "Urgreth begins to emanate a powerful dark energy!" and he starts channeling his AoE spell, take a few steps back and hit your evocate. If you have little skeletons on you dont worry they arent strong enough to kill you while evocating. Then throw a heal after if needed, spam Colossal Strike and repeat.

Haliscorn - Probably eaiser then Urgreth TBH. Aggro him then back up against the wall and spam Colossal Strike. When he summons the pack of undead use your AoE spell and keep Spaming Colossal Strike. I didn't have to heal or evocate once on this fight... just Colossal Strike spam, AoE on group... simple.

Also after each boss I simply dismissed my Titan thing and re-summoned it with full mana and health. You can heal and evocate if you want, but just saves a little time.

After having so much trouble with Urgreth, I finally found an easy solution.

Backtracking and running circles around him has been mentioned before .. but neither had worked for me ( Died 10+ times ). So found a very easy way to do it all:

You approch him from behind, do NOT have your back to the cliff. From here you SPAM 'Colossal Strike' while walking backwards and around .. as long as he Hits -> Runs to you -> Hits etc etc you will be fine. When the warning pops up 'Urgeth begins to emanate a powerful dark energy! you should allready be out of range as you were backtracking the whole time. After his first tick .. which might still hit you backtrack a little more so you are just out of range and use 'Reconstruction' and 'Titanic Surge' for your hp/mp needs. He SHOULD come at you while using the latter skill. So you will need to start backtracking again while spamming 'Colossal Strike'. I had to do this twice, as he used his special attack twice .. but after the 2nd I spammed 'Colossal Strike' + 'Cataclysm' and he should go down very easy with you having approx 80% hp left.

The only boss I had to heal on was Urgeth. On Bythius, just spam cleave, easy. For Hailscorn, face away from the cliff, and when he summons the skeletons, use AoE.

For Urgeth, when you see the yellow letters, back up, take a few evocate ticks, and then use Reconstruction before he starts hitting you again. Again, spam cleave.

for the 200 scourge, if you have more than about five, use AoE, otherwise, spam cleave. Every once in awhile a group of about 10 runs down the mountain, perfect for AoE.

The whole quest is easy just AOE a lot and juse evocate till you can heal or do a AOE. Than i went up to the last two guys and find my self some problems. But after 1 time i did get it.

Urgreth of the Thousand Tombs: Just nuke the hell out of him, wen he is going for his aoe walk back and evocate a bit untill he is done. So you can keep aoe'ing him. Prefer to keep 50k+ health since he hits kinda nice with his aeo and you can get hit if you aint get away as soon as possible.

Hailscorn: He looks though, and he is if you do it like i did! First time i didnt aoe at all since i read something about that up here.(thanks Muarfy!) He will kick youre ass that way.
Just keep him moving around and Aoe him when possible. When he uses Wing Buffet, start evocate, so you can keep aoe'ing him. Easy as that.

I found that Hailscorn was the easier.
I put my back to a wall, Spammed the cleave, AoE'd when he spawned.
Didn't need to heal or regain mana in any way.
Also, Do NOT use shield, it de-aggro's him and he heals fully.

This is actuallyl pretty easy.

For the three named mobs all I did was activating the shield ability before approaching them, using the AoE damage to clear the area and leave only the main mob, spamming cleave and healing when necessary.

In the case of Bythius, killing the dogs first made it look like just another scourge minion with lots of hp.

Dont use the Divine Shield thingy when u are fighting bosses then u will lose aggro and they run to original spot and fully heal... Dont know what happens when u use it on ordinary mobs but u wont have to if u dont sleep infront of the comp...
The walking back when urgoth uses the dark magic worked got hit one time (he used it twice so two times) and evocated/healed. But hailscorn was harder cause i didnt have mana when he summoned the skells died one time on hailscorn second time i was a bit more careful with my mana then he wasn´t a problem. All in All it was a rly fun quest/quest line

Fun quest once you figure out what to do on each boss.

Bythius: Stand in front of him spamming Cleave, use your AOE when it's available
Urgeth: Strafe around him spamming Cleave, use your AOE when it's available
Hailscorn: Walk backwards spamming Cleave, use your AOE when it's available

Urgeth won't use his AOE attack when he's moving, making him pretty trivial. And for me Hailscorn only did his summoning thing twice, both times right after my AOE was available.

After that, just run around like an idiot aggroing as many undead as you can and then popping your AOE until you get to 200 kills.

Fun quest, nice reward, great way to finish off your tour of Sholazar.

I have died more times then I care to share with you! the brighter side is that you can go right back there with no problem. No taking ten or trying to find your body! but Urgreth is the worst!

i found out that he dose knock you backwards hehe just turn your back on the mountain and also easy way to defeat him is to walk in cyrcles do that you only need to heal you once (least i did) and you can use yer mana to AoE the skellies

Hailscorn:

If you just stand on the mountain and when he wing buffet you then, just use your evocation, and after that heal or, heal and use evocation, mobs he spawn is np with AOE Charge thing, if you then get down cause buffet, kite him up to the mountain again, he's eZ mode.

Urgreth of the Thousand Tombs:

Here's an smart idea to keep your mana up on this one, when he uses his Shadow thing jump down on the mountain, and use your heal there-after you might wonna use evocate or using evocate first to make sure you got mana, and then heal. Make sure you get up on the mountain again so you can do it the next time he channels shadow thing.

Bythius the Flesh-Shaper :

I didn't rlly find any challenge to beat this one, he does low damage, if you just take his dogs first and then after take him, as a pala i could just use divine shield if i felt off, and then re-use the item. But this one arent so hard so just use cleave and Charge, this would clear the dogs fast and a good dps, but save mana for at least one heal, i would prolly like have 100k mana left to heal, then evocate get low to 30% And then heal again, just to save mana for another heal!

All-Round pretty easy with those tacts!

Very fun, easy quest. Hailscorn is the easiest, for me atleast. Just keep Cleaving him, when he summons the skeletons pop your AoE. I had enough time before he summoned again to use my AoE..if not, wait a few seconds.

Bythius was simple. Be sure to kill the dogs first. Get the adds (dogs) and the boss together and use Cleave to bring them down fast, leaving the boss alone. Just heal when needed (30% HP should have you need to heal only once.)

Ugreth is a bit of a challenge, if you don't know what you're doing. Just like Bythius, pound his taint with Cleave. When the screen shows yellow text, GTFO of his AoE range and use Heal/Evocation. His AoE can easily 3-shot you.
Once the AoE drops, go back in and spank him, just rinse and repeat.

hailscorn was my hardest but i found that if i wedged up against the wall and spammed cleave and hit the aoe when undead were brought out i healed at about 50% and killed hailscorn shortly after that : )

Hailscorn is actually incredibly easy:

He raised skeletons about three times, everytime he did I used Cataclysm. Other than that I just spammed Cleave.
As said, Hailscorn doesnt hit for very much, it's the skeletons that deal most of the damage. So GL ;>

I would like to add that if you step back to heal/evocate when the second boss AoEs, The order at which this is done is important. HEAL FIRST, then evocate. I did it the other way around for a couple of times and my repair bill was 10g. Otherwise everything else of this quest was quite enjoyable.

I had most trouble with Urgreth of the Thousand Tombs, untill I figured out why.
As soon as he casts his AoE, step back and immediately restore mana,
interrupt as soon as the spell is done.
Several tips given here, like jumping off your giant and resummoning don't work,
you will have to redo the entire fight.
I have been restoring and healing, don't use too much of your own AoE,
it will consume too much mana.
Bythius the Flesh-Shaper was easy, so was Hailscorn (gonna name my kid
after him one day, the name sounds awesome xD)

For Urgreth of the Thousand Tombs (which I found to be the most difficult one to kill out of all three) I constantly walked backwards. He will cast his AoE, but because you are maintaining yourself at max distance while using Cleave, you can quickly turn around and avoid being hit even by one tick. During the time that he's doing that, you can heal or evocate--its your choice.

And yes, I did read all of the previous comments for advice and this is what worked for me. Those who said that they did _____ and _____ and did not have Urgreth cast the AoE, it's purely a matter of luck, not technique.

Had little trouble with the dragon, just used the AOE when it summoned the minions and healed when needed. Spammed cleave on the guy with the dogs, healed when needed. However on Urgreth the only way I got through it was to group up with someone else on the Etymidian. I tried it with a level 80 rogue helping me but then he just spammed the living hell out of that shadow thing and we both died. Totally not worth the effort involved, IMO. HIGHLY suggest going about this naked, I dropped about 6g in repairs before I realized htis. Duh :)

Very easy.

Bythius: Take out the two dogs, then tank n' spank. Use your AoE when it is available as it does considerably more damage than your cleave.

Ugreth: Be ready to strafe out of range of the AoE and tic a bit of mana or heal if needed. Then just cleave him down. Don't forget your auto-attack.

Dracolich: Walk the dragon back one direction until skele's are summoned. AoE them. Walk it walk the other direction until skele's are summoned a second time. AoE them. Dragon will be dead before third summon.

Easy peasy.

I don't know if I'm missing something, the quest has changed in 3.2 or 3.3, or if I am merely bad at the game, but Hailscorn was nigh impossible for me.

He was fine until he summoned his minions, but the AoE, whilst nearly killing them, did NOT kill them entirely. That left them to speedily whittle away my life, and before the AoE was off cool down, he would usually summon them again. Despite this, I managed to get him fairly low a few times, but even jumping down the cliffs gave me only about 2 seconds to regen mana and attempt to heal.

Perhaps this quest has changed, or perhaps I'm just doing it wrong, but I'm finding it to be impossible, and the amount of times I died and the waste of time I could've been questing for me was too much, and I abandoned.

Anyone else having a similar experience?

I also had alot of difficulties with this quest today. Remember doing it earlier on my other chars, and it was a breeze. This time, Hailscorn ate me up 6 times in a row while i was trying different tactics.

I ended up cheesing it out. As soon as he pops army, i use aoe, rinse and repeat, but the trick was, when i got low on mana and\or health, i jumped down the cliff for evocation. I had already cleaned there before the attempt, so i got enough ticks off to get a heal and another aoe, by this time, hailscorn went down like a bag of potatoes.

This is far from easy imo, and the quest had me twitching for a moment. Make sure you clean the ledge below, then slide down when your in the danger zone, be quick with evocation and heal since he will be on your tail fast.

*The most obvious is urgeth, he is standing right by a cliff that lines down into several other cliffs, this design is so when he does his aoe you jump off, heal then restore mana and repeat on the way down, and conviently he is really slow making it to where you have enough time to do these things after you jump off.*

just wanted to say that I tried this multiple times, and it doesn't work, at least not anymore. As soon as you jump off to the lower level, Urgeth is back at full health/mana, and is no longer in combat with you, he doesn't follow you down at all. Still trying to figure out what will work. ;P Also tried just strafing, soon as I move a little bit away from him, he resets.

I'm thinking the reason the adds don't die from the AoE because of the AoE damage cap that came with 3.3. They probably overlooked problems like this.

As of patch 3.3, this quest is nearly impossible to complete due to new AoE system. Haliscorn's skeletons can not be killed with single spell, cooldown is way too long so you will die because of heavy damage.

A small note, as of patch 3.0.3 the quest appears to be broken as the aoe damage on your nuke does reduced damage as the number of mobs increases.

When attempting the dragon boss my aoe did 9000 damage when she summoned all the skeletons, or half the summoned skeletons total life. The frost dragon was able to summon adds faster than I could kill them, even attempting to kite the boss and adds waiting on a second aoe cool down.

For some reason Cataclysm doesnt kill the scourges Hailscorn adds to the fight, very annoying since they hit for 500-1k each, the health on the Etymidian drops to zero in no time. I've even tried kiting him, if i turn my back ill get dazed intantly, if i dont i walk 1 foot a second, silly thing is i've done this several times on other chars which didnt have that problem.

I was able to kill Hailscorn. I will try to explain what I did, it actually turned out to be luck really.

I thought kiting him back and forth might help but eventually I had too many spawns on me and when I was near death the wing buffet knocked me down the side of the cliff, sure enough all the adds and Hailscorn started wall-walking down to me. This bought time for the aoe cooldown, once the mobs got to me I was able to kill them with the aoe and maybe a cleave or two.

When I did this quest yesterday, I had no trouble killing Hailscorn's adds with just one AoE, so I think Blizzard may have lifted the AoE cap for this quest. I might have added Cleave to the mix (not sure, forgot to check the logs) but I certainly did not have any problems. Main points are the basics: enter battle with full HP, clear area of scourge beforehand and keep enough mana to heal as necessary. I usually began casting Reconstruction at 40%. Note that I had to evocate once and at this time damage was very heavy. Still, ended with him dead and me at 35%, so I wouldn't call it exactly a close fight.

As usual, lag is probably your most dangerous enemy here. Good luck beating him, it's certainly doable now.

Urgreth of the Thousand Tombs was the most difficult to hanlde as far as I was concerned. He each time managed to inflict more damage with his AoE spell. The earlier advice here above didn't help me a lot as (1) there was no room left between the Urgreth and the edge of the cliff and (2) dropping the cliff would bring me in the area where Bythius is walking. So, instead, I didn't jump off but remained closed to the edge to fight him after cleaning the area first.
My strategy was to refill life+mana to start, avoid using any mana in fight and walk away as soon as he would start channelling his spell, and repair health 3 times (as I preciously preserved the mana herefor).

Meh. They need to hit this particular quest with the nerf bat a few times.

Only reason why I was able to complete it, was because I had a friend of mine hang back and heal - this was even after using the various tactics described in some of the earlier posts (backing up against the wall for the bone dragon, backing up out of the AoE for the other guy)

Took me 7 tries to finally nail this. I cringe when I think about my repair bill.

I must say Urgreth was the hardest one of them three. The reason was because he continues to heal himself and can do a lot of damage with Shadow Barrage after just a few Mortal strikes.

I read some of the comments regarding kiting him and drop down the edge since he wont be able to hit you with Shadow Barrage but after second drop he would reset and go back to full health. I died many times before realizing.

What I did was started to his right and began to hit him and kite him to the edge right behind him its only a little bit higher than his starting edge yet enough to shield you from Shadow Barrage. Heal yourself once you drop down and fill up on mana as he begins to drop down. Keep striking him as you move back up again to the same edge and just repeat the process. I killed him on my first try.

Just make sure you take gear off before beginning this quest since repair bill will get huge after a few deaths.

I nearly punched through the screen in frustration trying to get this one, there should be an Achievement for downing Ugreth! After dying for the 50th time, I tried all the falling off the cliff tricks, but he healed every time I got away from him.
So instead of going down, I went up. Kite him, walking backwards up the hill, around the track, but keeping a safe distance from Hailscorn. His AoE attack won't affect you if you're slightly above him, but if you're lower, it'll act like a daisycutter. I only had to heal myself once, no need for the mana regen or shield.

I just did this quest and did not have any issues with Bythius or Hailscorn. (The tip to stay against the wall and spam the melee weapon both worked perfectly for Hailscorn, ty).

Ugreth however was ridiculously difficult for me. I can't believe no one else had difficulties! I tried some of the tips on here... nothing worked. Falling down the cliff usually caused Ugreth to reset not to mention aggro the re-rezed Bythius so I do not agree that the quest was set intentionally for you to fall down the cliff. It is extremely hard to step outside Ugreth's AOE (which causes a great amount of damage per hit) without actually turning around and running away from him... stepping backwards doesn't usually get you out of the way fast enough. If you turn around and run, however, you risk him resetting as happened to me several times. I eventually got him by using Ety's Cataclysm (AOE) sparingly (costs a lot of mana) and just spamming the Cleaver (melee) as much as possible. Run away only to get mana and be careful not to run too far.

A strategy I found useful with Urgreth was to walk away on the AoE (walking through him is just as effective as turning and walking away, and reduces the risk of walking too far if you retrace your steps the next time), restore mana up to around half or higher if you have time; turn as he comes back to hit you, then heal whilst in combat. Ok, so while you're fighting the 2nd boss it's a bit tricky.

Use skill 1 to fight him, don't bother using your 2nd skill, the AOE blast. When he starts casting his hard hitting AOE, run away, you'll get hit on the 1st blast, heal yourself, and then start doing Evocation. Once his AOE stops, re-engage him. Rinse and repeat guys.

ive have read lots of posts for this wuest and talked to plenty of people who had problems with it but i found all 3 bosses to be easy...very easy....all i did was make sure i had full health and mana when i headed into the boss fights...on the first boss i spammed cleave and when he was at about half health i healed and used aoe and spammed cleave some more..nice and easy...the second boss spam cleave heled once in the middle and used 2 aoes taking the time while he was casting his aoe to get some mana...simply walking oout of range when he starts to cast works perfect...for the third boss i didnt heal even onc ei spammed cleave and used aoe when he spawned his mobs...he spawned mobs 3 times last time was right before he died and i had low health so i bubbled and left area when bubble wore off i could regen mana and heal...best tip i have is to make sure clear area around bosses before engaging and make sure you have full health and mana before engaging

Bythius - I started off with my AoE, then just spammed cleave. The cleave killed the puppies eventually. I healed once and never needed evocate.

Urgeth - Again, start with AoE to clear the adds and do some damage to him. I just ran a little bit up the hill when he used his AoE and got off as many evocate ticks as possible, then went back and attacked him where he starts (or close to it), making sure I had enough mana to heal if necessary and using AoE if I grabbed any adds.

Hailscorn - Heal wasn't necessary, but I liked being able to use it. I was able to use AoE every time the adds were summoned, which kills all of them instantly, and when he did wing buffet I could get off a couple ticks of evocate.. giving me the freedom to heal if I needed to (or just wanted to), and making it so having my AoE available wasn't an issue.

I don't think the stuff in bold has been mentioned (but I don't have the patience to read all 128 responses), and this was from doing the quest in 3.3, so it may be a little more up to date than some of the replies :)

The original cliff trick didn't work for me today, he just kept resetting after the second cliff. On my Warlock, it worked like a charm. After reading the comments here (again), I engaged him, walking backwards spamming Cleave to the cliff directly 'above' him. Then walk a few steps past where you can climb onto it, keep attacking til he channels, then dropped down and healed/evocated (whichever I needed), and it worked. Took 4 'cliff tricks'.

This quest is easy, but not as in 'Easy easy', or 'easy Easy'...

In reality this quest, like many other quests, involves a certain amount of luck to succeed. It means you may - and probably will - die a number of times, especially when fighting the bosses. Your level has no impact upon difficulty whatsoever.

To take off your gear (weapons included) before engaging in fights with the bosses, is very good advice!... (volunteered by Samitch)

Urgeth - spam colossal strike and cataclysm when its up. Most important is to run out of the shadow barrage (heal up and restore mana during this).

Heal, heal, heal against bosses. Increase mana in between and cat the little suckers. Died once getting the hang of it but after, no problem. Fun to have the little suckers crowd around you and blow them all away. 200 happens pretty fast.

As a level 85 Frost DK, it was faster to do this quest without the Etymidian at all. Simply make sure not to pull too many little guys at once, and clear the area around the bosses before engaging them.

Ugreth really needs to be nerfed. I don't see how your supposed to avoid his spell. I tried using the spell that makes you invulnerable and he just evades and resets. I tried simply walking away but he turns and still hits you. Finally ended up having to group with another player and we barely killed him even grouped up. Stupid to have to group up on this quest as it ruins any and all lore behind it. I watched several other players try to solo him and fail. Other bosses where fairly easy.

Also will add it sucks doing this on the weekend. I haven't finished killing the trash mobs because there are about 15 or so alliance walking around AEing everything in sight.

Bythius is easily slain if you kill off the two scourge dogs he has with him first, bubble to get you out of combat, and the go back to finish him off.

Ugreth can be pretty nasty if you don't avoid his shadow spell... once he starts casting it, turn and run the other way so you don't get hit by it.. if you do, be sure to use the surge spell to keep your mana up so you can always use the heal. He casts it twice if you're solo-ing him.

Hailscorn is the easiest imo- just kill off the scourge around him before you pull aggro, and keep your AOE spell open to kill off the minions he summons. Again, I think he summons them twice if you solo.

Make sure to keep using your general attack spell, too.

. . . walking out of his casting (if you can), while using Titan Surge (4) to regen mana (since he won't move while casting, a good thing since the Etymidian takes 400% damage if hit while trying to Titan Surge), then using Reconstruction (3) to heal yourself after his casting makes this challenging event easier to accomplish. Clearing the entire ledge of other dead things before you engage him also helps minimize stuns (which can impede movement) and distractions caused by other dead things hitting the Etymidian while trying to engage Urgreth one on one.

In other words, if you are having trouble soloing this guy, save the mana to heal yourself, try to get away from Urgreth when he is casting and immobile, so you can regen enough mana back so Reconstruction (3) lights up, which will let you heal the Etymidian after Urgreth's casting. Staying in range of his casting is bad enough; not having enough mana to heal is worse.

Remember also, Colossal Strike (1) uses no mana. Use Cataclysm (2) if you have extra mana beyond what's needed for the heals.

It looks like Ugreth's shadow spell hits you two times per cast. You get hit the first time early on during the casting duration and then there is an AoE blast that hits at the end of casting.
So once he starts casting and you move away, you may still get hit by the first attack but you will be out of range by the time the AoE blasts.

While you are at a safe distance, you can use Ugreth's casting duration to your advantage. Since he cannot move while casting his shadow spell, you can take that time to cast the mana regen spell. You dont have to wait for the full duration of your mana regen spell. Just cast it while it is safe.
Once Ugreth starts walking towards you, cancel your regen spell and either heal yourself or proceed with attacking him if your health is ok.
Rinse and repeat. Once you get familiar with the timing of his spells and how fast you walk compared to Ugreth, you can get this fight down to a science.

Basically worked him across the shelf he is standing on. Land just above at far end turn on Etymidian. Clear towards him. Attack- run away (far away) from shadow spell (backing away or running through him both seemed to work). Restore mana, heal, attack- rinse and repeat.

Have it all done except for Ugreth.
Be easier if he was predictable.One time I can run halfway down ledge,he'll still have aggro.

Others,I barely run from him,he loses aggro and resets.

The AE spell is erratic,also.He's using it way more than twice.Sometimes He starts to cast,I run,turn to fight,he's already recasting and I've used my heal.
More than once,he started to cast,I barely turned and he let loose.

So far I've spent 15g in repairs,but I'm stubborn,and pissed.I'll get him next time.

I basically followed the "run out of range" method, but I also used the last ability on that bar, I forget what its called and I didn't get nailed by his dark energy, however I also ran a bit and think that I lost his agrro. That last ability has a bit of a cooldown so you will still have to run out of range. Good luck and happy hunting

The previous posts were very helpful but I discovered a twist that might help with Ugreth. When he starts the dark energy attack I backed away as quickly as I could. I'd still get hit by it but not as bad as standing toe to toe with him. As soon as I was a decent distance away, I regenerated enough mana to activate the healing ability and immediately healed. If I had time I would then regenerate the mana again to build up the AOE ability. If not, I'd pound on him with the hammer. I repeated this until I killed him. Again, follow the suggestions below (clear the other mobs, give yourself room to run, go into the battle fully charged, etc...)

This has got to be the worst quest of all time.

I couldn't solo it, following the advice of the other posts just did not work for me, I could not do it fast enough before he killed me, if you go to far away from him he heals and you have to start again.

The only reliable way is to get a group and do it. Which is hard, unless you can find other people at your same stage the forget it. And that's just what I did, forget it, not worth the time spent on it.

Bythius is easy. Don't even need to eliminate one dog and bubble like Paleona said. Just keep using the cleave ability, save your mana for when you get low health, then cast the reconstruct spell to get full health, then keep cleaving and use the remaining mana to use the AE spell (have enough mana to do it twice I believe).

Hailscorn is also simple. Again save your mana for the summoned adds, then use AE to get them out of the way. Should have enough mana to heal if necessary.

Urgreth is the only tricky one. Yes you MUST run away from his dark magic AE spell, and again save your mana. While he is casting he is immobile, leaving you time to heal yourself if you got hit with the first AE blast and then recharge your mana. You should be able to down him after his second set of AE blasts. He took me three tries to get him dead, and using the bubble spell will reset him because it lasts too long.

Just because The Etymidian is some all powerful titan force doesn't mean you can just mindlessly attack. He's still prone to humanoid error. :)

So, yes, Ugreth was the most difficult. I did not follow previous directions, what I did was attack him at full strength, when he starts casting I ran through him to the other side to get out of range. Never succeded for the first wave, but I could get far enough away to then heal and recharge batteries. Use the lightning AOE should you run into a pack of mobs. Repeat as necessary.. Probably had to repeat 3 times.

Bythius is easy as Paleona says if you attack the dogs first. However, I did not need to bubble, just a heal.

Hailscorn was a little tougher than I thought, but realized I really needed to save the lightning AOE and the mana for it. If in trouble, bubble - which I did once.

For WoW Wrath Classic Players: If you are having a hard time killing the Urgeth Boss, You need to strafe kite around him in a circle. Do not go too far or he resets, do not get knocked down the cliff or he resets. Do not use the self protection spell (5) or he resets. This dumb boss will reset if you do anything other than strafe kit around in a circle around where he spawns.
Strafe and press the 1st ability over and over and over again and heal yourself(4) as you take 50% health loss on your gollum, after you heal use the evoke thing.
If he starts casting WALK AWAY FROM HIM or he will kill you.

Keep strafing around in a circle and spamming 1. Stay the hell away from the cast that he makes and take every chance you can to Evocate and heal. You'll see the cast that he does.

This boss is dumb and annoying and likes to reset, where as the other 2 are easy and fine.
This one of the dumbest quests in the game right now, and I can't believe this one boss is so buggy and broken. He reset on me SO MANY TIMES.

This is probably most bugged quest I´ve ever encountered in my wow life. Just finished it but...
If you go up to the hills, lets say to kill more undeads to complete 200/200, you can get random disconnect. When it happen, log quickly back, because you are there in the moment without titan weapon, so ads are attacking you (if you aggro any before dc).
I got two disconnects in a row, so I took my flying mount and fly up to the snow mountains so I can fill my healt and mana. Got attacked by invisible undeads. Tried to run away but they didnt evade after the while as usual ads do.
Got killed.
Spawned by the usual way, was tped down before the avalanche starts. Thats when it became problem. Was flying to hunting camp to repair my gear just to notice no npc is here. Got weird feeling so I alt+f4 and log into game again. Spawned in the same place where I was spawned after the death.
Okay.
Was flying back to the hunting camp, same thing happened. No npc or ads around. Again alt+f4, same thing.
I was getting little bit angry. Tried to log out - You cant log out now. Tried to use heartstone - Cant do that while moving (even when I was standing still). Could not even cast flash heal because game though I was moving or so.
Got really flustrated so alt+f4 again. Had an idea, so I created new character, logged on it, logged out, logged at my previous character just to realize nothing changed.
I was about to shut down my pc and do something else and then I remembered something - Used Divine Shield and tried heal myself.
Now that worked and game fixed itself somehow.

Weirdest glitch I ever encountered. And to be honest, my mood for today is dead.
Maybe this will help for someone unlucky as me.
