This felt slightly vague in the description. I was trying to use the Hides next to the vents/geysers which had steam shooting out of them -Its not them though. Look around and you will see small vents which have red plants surrounding them.

Yes . You need to kill all sort of deers, gazelles in green part neighborhood (i.e. 70.40), which they drop hide's. Those hides you taking to small geysers with flowers around (i.e. 68.35) and turn them into Steam cured hide.

Start off by killing the Marsh Caribou's Located right outside of the Village to get the Uncured Caribou Hide. Drop rate sucks (20.0%).

Once you get 5 take them to the Geyser Fields (66.28). Approach any pillar (Geyser) that has steam coming & red plants near it, and stand next to it, right click your Uncured Caribou Hide stack and it will turn them into Steam Cured Hide

Combine with:
Cleaning up the Pools
Souls of the Decursed

*Just Grab your Uncursed Caribou Hides first!

Look for the vents with DARK/RED smoke coming out.
I tried at a lot of vents with just red flowers and white smoke coming out and it doesn't work there.

First go to 65-38 and kill Marsh Caribau. You need to farm 5 Uncured Caribou Hide. Then go to 67-34 and right click hides that you farmed... Gz you completed!

Ok, this might be a stupid, stupid thing to add, but I just made this mistake: I thought I needed 10 hides, so I farmed 10 from caribou and went over to a team vent...then completed to 5.

You'd think ti would be obvious...but some (me) doon't always see the obvious. >.< Wish they were "unique (5)" like most quest items....

This is a fairly easy quest there will be some (caribou) near the camp were you pick the quest up the drop rate is pretty hi it took me about 5 minutes. after you collected 5 of there hides bring then to these steam vents there easy to find if you have quest helper. you can just click hear. Ok so if you already have it the objective box will show up one the map that's the steam vents. stand in the steam when you have all of your hides and your standing in the steam right click your hides and that will give you the quest credit.....good liuck

I just did this quest and had something odd happen.

I picked up 5 hides and made my way to a vent. My inventory was full so I dropped something thinking the cured hides would stack. However, when I attempted to cure a second hide, I was told that my inventory was full. So I dropped something else and the cured hides stacked anyways! So I wound up with one empty spot for no particular reason. Was a little strange.

The enemies are not marked in any way so read carefully: 1) kill Marsh Caribou's (outside the village at 78,33) until you have five "Uncured Caribou Hide" 2) go to 66,30 and stand on the hill by the steam vents 3) open the bag and push at the quest items you recieved earlier to steam them

Basically, what I found, was a large hole with red flowers growing around it... it looked EXACTLY like the other ones, but it had no steam blowing out of it... and was too high so I couldnt stand directly on it. I'd suggest standing right up next to it :) Pretty easy to find, actually, once you know what to look for.

I found this quest pretty frustrating. There are TONS of things about that fit the definition of "steam vent" in that they are, judging by their appearance, "venting steam", but it's incredibly picky about the one you actually use. It took me a while to find one, even when I was in the area it said they were. I stood inside the things which looked to me as if they were "steam vents" (again, visually they appeared to be VENTING STEAM), but it kept saying that they were not, in fact, "steam vents".

People in the comments often mention one with red flowers or some such around it, but I couldn't find it and that is not the one I used. I used a regular white one at 66, 29, and the only difference visually was that every now and then it would spew a tad more steam than the others.

this quest was quite annoying... even most of the geysers with red flowers did not work for me. I only found one that worked, a taller, skinnier geyser with flowers and white steam shooting out. It was on the border of the geyser fields, with the shades and pools of water.

Confirmed 71,28 - was able to cure all five hides - downvoted the original because of the statement "look around" really - simply adding coordinates would have been better.

Co-ords are dead on. And Dr is absolutely right, doesn't give off steam ... misleading. Just go to the co-ords and you've got it. For those of you without co-ords, on map where the test " The Geyser Fields" is shown ... go directly south from the 'F' in Fields. Will be in the corner of the 'grey' geyser pool boardering 'green' zone. Look like huge ant hills/mounds.

Coords are spot-on for the vent closest to the village. As one person said, they are TINY mounds, similar to the dust vents in Silithus, just a different color (same model). They DO give out steam, but only if you have your effects set high enough (and it's more like 'smoke' - not a stream of steam like you would expect from a geyser).

It took me forever to find a steam vent because I didn't know what I was looking for, and the vents don't actually put out any steam. There are many but if you stand next to one of the shorter stacks at 65.37 you can cure your hides.

Steam vents look like little tiny mounds of dirt with a little bit of steam coming out of them. Theres a steam vent next to the little town too, which is convienient.

First, kill some Marsh Caribou that're located right out of the entrance to the little town until you have 5 of their hides. You can possibly skin them for them if you're a skinner..who knows I'm an enchanter/tailor >_<

Then, take the 5 hides to the steam vent (loc 75.8, 32.4) and you can cure all five right there..and then you're done :)

The red flowers around the vent are not enough; this quest specifically requires a vent with billowing black *smoke*, not steam.

Well, I've found a use for it. The body of this flying machine is so banged up in places, that I'm going to need to reinforce it if I ever hope to fly.

Dorain over there has been telling me that the taunka use steam cured caribou leather for making watertight containers. Marsh caribou live all around the village and in the Flood Plains to the south. Get the best hides you can find and cure them over the steam vents in the Geyser Fields.
