This is the creature that spawns after the 6th Saronite Vapor has spawned during the General Vezax fight without being killed. Not killing any of the vapors means zero mana regen for the entire raid, which is the hard mode I Love the Smell of Saronite in the Morning.

The Saronite Animus has ~10 million hp and stacks Profound Darkness which deals shadow damage increasingly over time. The increased shadow damage remains on the raid after the Animus dies, meaning getting hit by a shadow crash will one-shot you.

Edited for 3.2 changes.

The Saronite Animus will spawn exactly where Vezax begins the encounter, by the door to Yogg's room. It is not tauntable and will require Misdirect, Tricks, or a very aware tank to pick him up if you are not using two tanks for the encounter. The timing is such that it will spawn at the same time that Vezax uses Surge of Darkness, so make sure your healers are aware that the tank will be taking massive damage as soon as the add spawns.

DPS will generally need to down this guy inside of a minute or you will not be able to heal through the DoT.

I have not done Vezax hard mode...

Not only have you never done hard mode, but I rather doubt you've ever done Vezax at all.

... but I can tell you that the Saronite Animus will not die in 1 minute in a 25 man raid. Even if you could somehow 4 heal this, that equates to almost 11k dps for all 20 of the DPS in the raid, which just isn't possible, not even close.

Obviously you can't tell us that. What you're actually telling us is that you're able to divide 12.5M hp by 20 dps's to obtain a number of 11k dps. Here's the thing:

Standing in the tar gives casters double cast-speed and double damage, putting them at 11k-12k in (non-hard-mode) Ulduar exit gear, right out of the box. Slap on a heroism and that number climbs to almost 14.5k.

While the damage it does goes up quite quickly, I think it'd be faster to finish up Vezax then to kill the Animus.

You cannot kill Vezax before killing the Animus and still get credit for the hard mode. Nor, for that matter, can you kill Vezax after the Animus spawns because of the damage shield. Even if you had a raid with spectacular control of it's DPS that could get him down to 50k or so:

You'd still need to do 5 million more damage to kill him post-Animus
You'd still need to hope and pray he just doesn't stop at 1 hp
You'd still probably not get hard mode credit anyway - It's for killing General after killing the Animus.

No, the only way to complete this is the hard way: DPS the General until the Animus arrives, kill it super-f#@%ing quickly, and then finish off the General.

There's a reason they call them "hard modes".

I have a question which im surprised hasn't been asked, but after the Animus has been killed, does he leave behind a vapor pool to get mana back? Or does this mean that the mana at start is all that you get?

You only get your starting mana throughout the entire fight- no spirit, no MP5, no divine plea, no shadow fiend etc.

you need to kill the Saronite Animus before killing Vezax

if you are lucky, Vezax will put up his barrier during the cast of Surge of Darkness thus negating one Surge of Darkness and allowing a CD to be used to save mana rather then prevent death

It might be a good idea to make a targetting macro for the animus if your solo tanking on the 10 man hard mode, vezax is pretty big and animus can be very annoying to click on if vezax decides to surge while it spawns. just my 0.2 cents

I'm surprised no one has asked this but is their a time limit to when the saronite animus will pop up? or can you get vezax to 1 million health then spawn the animus?

There are timers on when the vapors spawn, so you will know when the 8th one and Animus will come. And as to your question about a theoretical 1 million HP before Animus (but not spawn Animus on demand, it doesn't work like that). it would only theoretically be possible if your DPS on Vezax was good enough before the 8th vapor. But realistically I am skeptical many can bring Vezax down that low with the current gear available before Animus. I hope this helps.

As of patch 3.2 General Vezax has received a significant change in his encounter. These are the changes we noticed in the 25 man raid version when doing his Hard Mode.

The Animus has seemed to take a health nerf of about 2 million HP. Also, he now spawns on the SIXTH Saronite Vapor since Vezax does not spawn 8 anymore. Combined with Vezax taking an at least 7 million HP nerf in 25 man this fight is now much faster.

the real danger is that he still shoots out the same number of shadow crashes that a normal length fight would have. Which means that his Shadow Crashes are now cast out VERY VERY FREQUENTLY. Your ranged group now has some serious running to do and their DPS is going to suffer a bit for it.

I will copy/paste these notes in the "I love the smell of Saronite in the morning" info as well as the Vezax info.

So my healers have noticed when doing HM Vezax once the Animus spawns something is leaching their mana. We still kill the boss fine but we do not have a druid healer in our 10 man core raid. So we have had to rely on doing 3 healers instead of 2 because of this. I have checked every strategy and ability that I'm aware of and cannot find anything that is supposed to siphon/deplete there mana. They are literally losing mana before even casting anything so something is taking it. Does anyone know what is actually doing it and if this is normal?
