Obviously Blizzard's play on Aeris Gainsborough (Aerith is her Japanese spelt name) from Final Fantasy VII, who was a flower girl. In WOTLK she sells flowers as well, and appears as an unflagged NPC.

It's a shame she's actually factioned Kirin Tor, otherwise she could be killable :D Although perhaps it's a good thing, or you'd have youtube flooded with fan videos tributing her death in FFVII.

The name Aerith itself and the fact she sells flowers is too easy regardless of the last name. You have to be living under a rock or never played a quality RPG not to guess this reference. Just to add also... her clothes are almost an exact replica. To bad she isn't holding a staff but I guess that's too much to ask for a tribute.

id kill to have her dress on my BE preist, theres so many Wemon with her name with the #1 closest thing to her suit, {Durable robe}
my copy has Heavy War Staff, Linen boots and the Durable robe.... Aeris is such an awsome character (though she had to die so early in the game when we don't even know her final limit break)

Looks like Aerith has upped her prices since moving to Azeroth.

No longer are they "just one gil each" =[ Cloud would be sad!

Aerith is actually her official name. Aeris has been retconned, because it was nothing more than one of Final Fantasy 7's many translation errors.

To quote Final Fantasy Wiki;

In the English release of Final Fantasy VII, Aerith's name was transliterated as "Aeris" by SCEA. As the Japanese language does not have the "th" sound, and the closest thing is "su", the translators took the "su" sound in her Japanese name to mean a single "s." However, since Kingdom Hearts and in all related appearances since, her name has been "Aerith", and the name "Aeris" has been considered retconned.
