Jaina Proudmoore, after her absence in Legion, plays a major role in the Battle for Azeroth Alliance storyline. Datamining points to an upcoming scenario involving Jaina and her mother, which we'll cover in this post.
Story spoilers.
The Story So Far
At the start of Battle for Azeroth, Jaina tries to win over the nation of Kul Tiras so the Alliance can benefit from their powerful navy. This plan backfires as Jaina is universally reviled in Kul Tiras for "betraying" them and allowing her father, Daelin Proudmoore, to be killed by the Horde. In addition, Lady Ashvane convinces Jaina's mother, Katherine Proudmoore, to exile Jaina. Lady Ashvane has an ulterior motive--she's in league with Queen Azshara and wants to overthrow Katherine's rule. You can read the full story in our
Alliance Intro Scenario Preview

Jaina is then absent for much of the Kul Tiras leveling story, but it appears we'll get a scenario with her later on in the story. This scenario appears to take place after Katherine realizes the extent of Lady Ashvane's treachery, which culminates in
Ashvane attacking Boralus
, the capital city of Kul Tiras. Katherine attempts to reconcile with Jaina, who has gone missing.

Before the Scenario - Finding Jaina
Before the scenario takes place, there is an Alliance attempt to find Jaina. We are not sure if this directly leads into the scenario, since this dialogue implies it is a rogue mission that the queen is displeased with. In the actual scenario, it looks like Katherine wants to reconcile with Jaina.
That should do it! Tell Marshal Reade that Quartermaster Notley is reporting for duty!
Halt! Where exactly do you think you're going with my men, Marshal?
Captain Denholm, I have conscripted these men for a special mission. I order you to stand aside and allow us to pass!
By order of the queen, none shall pass this gate. Not even you.
We don't have time for this! Soldiers, stand with me!
Enough, I yield!
You can pass, Reade, but the queen will hear of this! You'll never set foot in Boralus again!
That is a risk I must take, Captain. Soldiers, on me.
Jaina!? She is the purpose of this expedition? But that's treason!
It's a bit late to turn back now, Yorrick. Denholm isn't likely to forgive a guard who attacks his own, even under orders.
You're a worthy combatant, I'll give you that. The marshal will have my blade.
"What is this, a mainlander come to visit the wall? No doubt you want to get a glimpse of the cursed land of Drustvar without facing any of its real dangers?
Go home, $Gboy:girl;. This is no place for travelers."
"You mean in Drustvar!? You must be kidding!
No sir, my place is here at the wall providing supplies to these fine soldiers! Only a fool would willingly set foot beyond those gates!"
The Alliance is prepared to offer a large reward for Jaina's return.
"What..?
My apologies. I... misspoke.
So you are allied with house Proudmoore, then? I imagine you've come here for news of Jaina, then. There's no other reason you'd come this far north.
Well, you may have arrived just in time."
I have a feeling they're not going to open that gate for us when we return...
We will find a way, Mace, once we find Jaina. Thoughts, Yorrick?
It's likely she would've followed the road to look for shelter.
Very well, that's where we will begin.
Jaina's jailers arrived here only a few days ago to carry out her exile. If we hurry, we may be able to find her before it's too late.
We start finding signs of Jaina in the woods:
"These look like the tracks of one of the beasts that attacked your party in the forest. It appears to have been dragging something behind it.
Oddly, the tracks seem to disappear completely at a point, as if the beast just vanished."
"These creatures were slain with frost magic - a sure sign that Jaina passed through here.
Where she went, however, remains a mystery."
"There appears to be light coming from the other side of the rubble blocking this corridor.
If the debris could be cleared, this may lead out of the ruins."
"This exile appears to still be alive, though barely breathing.
His wounds are severe, but his sickliness suggests he may be afflicted beyond the obvious damage."
It then appears that a darker magical force is at work, filled with strange beasts and storms.
This does not bode well...
Halt! What is this?
It looks like there are more than beasts in these woods. Do you think an exile did this?
I wish I could believe they did. No, I think there's something much darker at work here.
Come, we should keep moving.
Wait... I think I see something...
Notley, don't!
Aaaaiieeeee!
It's an ambush!
Quickly, they went this way!
What in the...
This... this is not good.
Sir! I don't see any sign of Notley, and the trail is impossible to follow in this storm!
Curse it! We'll have to continue without him... wait, what is that?
This looks like ice magic... Jaina must have come this way!
We must press deeper into the forest! Form up!
The beasts bar the way. Cut through them!
There appears to be a structure in the distance. That must be where Jaina was headed!
What... is this place?!
It's a dead end...
I don't understand. The path leads this way...
Do you think she went... down there?
Mace, Yorrick - fan out along the perimeter and search for -
Look out, mainlander!
It looks like we are caught or distracted at the end of this dialogue. Perhaps there is a large passage of time between our initial attempt to find Jaina and Thros the Blighted Lands.
Scenario Dialogue
The following dialogue is datamined broadcast text. We have tried to arrange it to fit the various scenario steps, but this is all speculation on our end and
not official
.
The Blighted Lands
Follow Katherine into Thros, the Blighted Lands.
What... what is this place?
It's... all my fault...
Jaina!?
No! Stay away!
Jaina wait!
Champion, we must go after her!
Chasing Shadows
Jaina's image has fled deeper into the Blighted Lands. Follow her.
The Proudmoore girl is ours, interloper!
Not if I have anything to say about it!
Thros... will consume you...
Jaina is up ahead. Let's hurry!
It's okay, dear...
No! You can't help me! No one can help me!
Wait!
When Jaina was a child, she used to hide whenever she was frightened or upset.
It looks like we'll just have to find her.
Lead the way, champion.
Hide and Seek
Find Jaina's mirror images, which have hidden throughout the Blighted Lands.
You left us to die!
You could have stopped him! You could have saved us!
I... wasn't strong enough...
No! Don't listen to them Jaina!
Jaina... you were... are... the pride of Kul Tiras: her power and her fury...
...but even the strongest of us can't save everyone.
It appears that this one was just a mirror image.
We should continue our search.
It looks like the real Jaina is still hiding.
Let's find her and get her out of this forsaken place.
Another illusion? Jaina must still be trapped somewhere in this place.
Into the Mirror
Follow Daelin's voice to locate Jaina's real location.
Katherine: That voice? Daelin?!
Katherine: It must be another of those creatures tormenting Jaina. We must hurry!
Daelin: You stood and watched as those animals cut me down!
Daelin: What has your betrayal earned you?
Daelin: You sided with mongrels over your own flesh and blood!
Daelin: The Horde are no more than monsters. No surprise they turned on you.
Daelin: They took your father, betrayed your king, and you did nothing.
Daelin: Will you abandon all your allies to the Horde?
Varian (?): Justice was in my grasp... I could've ended them all! Thrall... Sylvanas... the entire wretched Horde!
Varian (?): But you! You stayed my blade, and we were rewarded with betrayal!
Jaina: It was all my fault...
Katherine: Get away from her!
Katherine: Seeking an end to bloodshed isn't a failure, Jaina...
Katherine: ...I wish that your father could've learned that lesson...
Rhonin (?): You let your personal prejudices taint the Kirin Tor!
Rhonin (?): I was a fool to think you could lead!
Jaina: I... I didn't know...
Katherine: He's not real, Jaina! None of this is!
Dearest Jaina... you can't expect to make all of your choices with reason alone.
Detach yourself from your feelings, and you're left with only darkness.
Facing Fate
Defeat the Herald of Gorak Tul and escape from the Blighted Lands.
After the Scenario
Thank you all for coming. I shall keep this brief.
Division has made us vulnerable. We are beset by enemies from within.
The Horde, too, have made their intentions clear - they would see us burn.
I ask you now to put your faith in my daughter Jaina, the true Lord Admiral of Kul Tiras.
And to put your trust in the Alliance, whose heroes have saved us from our own unmaking.
House Waycrest stands with you, Lord Admiral. And with the Alliance.
Gorak Tul
We defeat the Herald of Gorak Tul as the final step of this scenario, and Gorak Tul is later seen as the final boss of Waycrest Manor. Gorak Tul is the king of the drust, an ancient race defeated by the human settlers on Kul Tiras. While they were defeated, their spirits lived on in the forest, waiting for the perfect opportunity to return. He taught the power-hungry Lady Waycrest drust magic in return for her help returning Gorak Tul to life. Much of the storyline in Drustvar covers the effects of the drust magic and Heartsbane Coven on the zone, as Lady Waycrest kidnapped and corrupted village inhabitants to strengthen the Coven.
Lady Waycrest's daughter, Lucille, faces great tragedy as she's falsely accused of witchcraft, has her fiance assassinated on her wedding day, and watches her best friend succumb to drust magic. She reforms the
Ordine delle Braci
, an ancient Kul Tiran order resurrected to battle the threat of witchcraft. With Lord and Lady Waycrest defeated in the dungeon, she stands as the heir to House Waycrest.
