Necrotic has seen a change in 8.1 to its damage type, which prevents Death Knights from using Anti-Magic Shell to prevent applications of the debuff. Paladins should also use Blessing of Protection, rather than Blessing of Spellwarding, to prevent Necrotic in 8.1.
We cover this and other undocumented changes to dungeons in our
8.1 Dungeon Changes Compendium.
Necrotic Affix Changes
Ferita Necrotica
is now a Physical Damage Over Time effect instead of Magical.
You can see the changes to the ability in the comparison tooltip above.
Name Change
: If you use any Weakauras or addons that call the Necrotic debuff
by name
, you'll need to update it to
Ferita Necrotica
.
Damage Type Change
:
Ferita Necrotica
no longer is a Magical Debuff, but a Physical debuff instead!
Death Knights will no longer be able to use
Scudo Antimagia
to prevent applications of the debuff.
Paladins will no longer be able to use
Benedizione della Protezione Magica
to prevent applications of the debuff but can use
Benedizione della Protezione
to remove applications of the debuff instead. The downside to using
Benedizione della Protezione
is mobs will ignore you while its active, so you are unable to have 10 seconds of immunity to Necrotic like while
Benedizione della Protezione Magica
.
With the meta previously being mostly Blood Death Knights, will this shake up the meta at all on Necrotic weeks?
Damage Done
This was not a change in 8.1 and functioned the same way in 8.0.
At first glance, it may look like the change to a Physical DoT makes it so you'll take less damage from it. However, all Physical DoTs in WoW are considered Bleeds (which ignore armor). This means that Armor increasing mitigation (
Scudo del Virtuoso
,
Aculei Demoniaci
) have no effect on these types of abilities. You'll be taking amount the same amount of damage from the DoT itself.
The damage that the
Ferita Necrotica
does is very small, but the damage scales based on a number of factors.
The
Ferita Necrotica
debuff inherits all Keystone modifiers by the mob that applied it.
This means that the most common factors that affect the damage are:
Keystone Level
- Higher Keystone levels increase the base damage done of creatures.
Fortified or Tyrannical Affixes
- Necrotic applied by Trash on Fortified weeks or by Bosses on Tyrannical weeks will deal more damage.
Stacks
- The more stacks you have, the more damage it'll deal!
But like we said earlier, generally the DoT component will be small but if you decide to do a high Sethraliss key, on a Fortified week, you might want to watch how much damage you're taking from the DoT.
