To get this item, you must be at the Darkmoon Deathmatch Arena when the special chest spawns. It spawns every three or so hours at approxamately the following server times:

00:00 (Midnight)
03:00
06:00
09:00
12:00
15:00 (3:00pm)
18:00 (6:00pm)
21:00 (9:00pm)

In addition to being at the chest, you must defend yourself if some else is seeking the treasure. Even if they are from the same faction!

Bonus: If you can collect 12 of these from the treasure chest, you will be able to receive Master Pit Fighter and be awared Darkmoon Dominator

Like any good carnival, the Darkmoon Faire has a shady side. You can leave the skilled labor to the suckers and go for a faster score instead. If you’ve got the minerals, the Darkmoon Deathmatch offers an experience unparalleled since the Gurubashi Arena. Pitmaster Pei has a big old treasure chest just brimming with goodies and Darkmoon Faire Prize Tickets that he’ll drag out into the Darkmoon Deathmatch Pit every three hours or so. Everybody wants it, so if you want a piece of the action you’ll just have to jump in and prove that you’re the toughest one in the Pit.

The trinket itself currently doesn't have any animation effect on proc - you simply get a mastery buff for 20 seconds, same as, for example, with on-use dodge effect of Vial of Stolen Memories.

The proc chance is 20%, and the trinket has exactly 45 secs of internal cooldown.
It's effect doesn't proc from the common range attacks, it occurs only from melee, but Heroic Throw, however, did proc it :]

All in our group crashed, when everybody entered the arena trying to fight for it.. what the hell was blizzard thinking?

Did this at 9 this morning, with the help of 2 other alliance players who grouped with me, as I had helped them on the previous spawn. Spawns were at 03:01 / 06:01 / 09:01. Most sane people were in bed I suppose, or at least not busy fighting each other - so we did not have too many inside. At 3 am though, it was an entirely different story: a myriad of guild banners, pvp banners, rings of frost, demonic circles, hunters traps, rogues spamming FOK, and resto shammies with Spirit Link and about a gazillion other abilities going on...

The chest gave 6xMythical Mana Potion, approx. 150 gold and the trinket that starts the quest.
Have fun killing your friends and foes in there!

The Light of Elune DOES NOT work for looting the chest in the Darkmoon Faire's arena. You CAN NOT loot the chest while under the effects, and you get a similar message to "You cannot loot that right now". It was worth a shot though. I sacrificed mine so that you could keep yours for whatever epic moment it aids you. ;) Confirmed as of 12/10/2011.

A very useful trick to get this out of the chest is to drink Noggenfogger until you get the small buff and then /sleep behind the chest, you take two seconds to get up, and you're almost hidden because you're so small. By the time people have noticed, it's too late, and you've already won :D

They need to make this trinket proc on activation like the gurubashi one did or at least proc on something universal. Mastery is still a lousy stat to proc for most classes though.

There are 55 chances per Darkmoon Faire to get this prize.

The chest appears at 3 hour intervals: 3am, 6am, 9am, 12pm, etc.
It won't be accessible either Sunday at midnight, when the Faire arrives or leaves.

Do not bother to wait around in the ring before the chest appears, you will be teleported out to the entrance when it starts, to provide a fairer chance to everyone.

If you manage to loot this chest and get the Pit Fighter, you will also receive the following:

Mythical Healing Potion x 5
Darkmoon Prize Ticket x 5 (currency link )
71 gold, roughly. Exact amount may vary.

On my server (Balnazzar-US), which is extremely low pop, was just chilling in the fair doing prof quests, when I noticed it was 5 mins till Arena Reset (9AM Realm Time), looked around, no one else at the fair, so finished my quests and just walked in and looted. Easiest achieve ever. Now as soon as I hit 85 can use the trinket.

A lot of comments about how to get to the chest and what it drops and the achievment in general, and nobody seems to have mentioned how awesome a trinket this is for tanks. The stamina is ok, not as good as other trinkets, but the mastery is awesome, the proc chance is like 20% and its only a 45 sec ICD.

What I like is that it has stats that are good for both magic and physical damage, so its a great general trinket to keep on you for every fight. Its tough to get for the average raider who isnt into pvp, but get your guild to help you and it shouldnt be a problem to overpower all people who jumped into the ring solo for it, now matter how much resiliance they have.

As somebody who does both pvp and raids this was a fun achivment to get, and it came with an awesome trinket.

Tested 2 of these Pit Fighter trinkets to see if they would both proc, didn't work. However it will work along side Varo'then's Brooch

Recommend for any low level toon + when you simply can't fell asleep

Obtained this on my level 6 rogue during DMF week 3am in the morning.

Here's what I got -

Pit Fighter x 1

Mythical Mana Potion x 3

Approximately 92 gold

Since the quest has no level requirement, only for equipping it

DING, instantly turned level 9

Edit: That is before blizz fix it so the exp awarded from the quest varies with your lvl.

Gotta' love when Blizzard puts useful items for one specific role (this being Tank, and not even all of them at that) along-side an achievement. :|

I just thought of something. What they need to do is connect the acheiv with the opening of the chest and not the trinket. That way if someone in your party gets the chest open everyone gets acheiv. Make ppl more willing to group and not take a tank trinket if they are not tanks

In keeping with this awesome idea, we should have were pvp gear drop in raids and pve gear from pvp but here is the smartest part you can only get gear you don't have a spec for. dps can get tank or healing etc.
