Another thing you should know: before you start the binding process, either you should be able to clear the lvl 38-39 elemental mobs or have some help. The binding process is two parts and takes about 10 seconds ( a few seconds to bind the totems, a few seconds to wait for lightning to strike it and then a few seconds to pick up the charged bramble). If something spawns and kills you, you may lose the charged bramble (it will disappear after a certain time). This happened to me and I had to go collect 10 more totems.

If you're doing this quest with another mage make sure you DO NOT use the sticks at the alter at the same time. My friend did this and we had to go get the sticks all over again.

You get the item from collecting Ten Witherbark Totem Sticks from the nearby Witherbark Trolls in Arathi. Once you have the ten totem sticks, clear out the center of the Circle, go to the middle and stand by the stone in the center. Use the toem stick and a branch will appear on thop of the rock. Use the branch and retreive the Bolt Charged Bramble from it.

that took no time at all - see my time stamps. Despite what thottbot says, the drop rate was more like 25-50%. I killed maybe 40 to get all 10.

I had the same experience. Drop rate was around 25-50%. You take the sticks to the Circle of Outer Binding.

Don't let the 2% drop rate scare you. This is really easy to obtain. Got 10 in less than 30 minutes. At least that's my experience

Thats the reason the rates are so low. Id imagine the vast majority of witherbark kills were from people without this quest, they wont drop unless you have it. Total kills is what calculates the drop rate therefore its not right. As said, around 25% would be more accurate, didnt take but about 20-30 min.

Drop rates are skewed for quest items, since people that don't have this quest (any non-mage or mage above/below this level) will NEVER get this drop. 2% is fairly high when viewed this way.

The totems drop about 20% when you have the quest. They drop 0% if you dont have the quest...

collect sticks first-best place is the camp or the cave. the drop rate is about 20-25%
After u get 10 of those, come to the circle and click on the sticks like u would use it, then u get your final quest item. (forgot whats it called ;)

500 is so wrong its unbelieveble who ever wrote that didnt take into account the ammount of ppl that have killed these for the worth it's weight in gold quest and didnt actually have the mage quest it dropped off ever 3 or 4 for me

yea...i just did it and using my kill log, i killed exactly 30 witherbarks to get my 10 totems...-.-

Droprate on quest items never fits the real droprate.

You see, everytime a mob is killed, cosmos registeres it.

That means every single time a troll dies, and it's not dropped, it's one more count to the whole picture.
And of course it doesnt drop for people who doesn't have the quest, which in arathi is most of the kills, since there's also a quest which objective is to kill the trolls.

There fore you can never rely on these droprates, when it's about quest items

For those who say its a rare drop, it wasn't for me. I killed about 30 or so to get 10 sticks, not bad. BTW, I did have the "Item of Power" quest when I did it.

Location of the totem sticks are 68,60 (south of Hammerfall). Mobs range from 32-36. I collected the sticks when I was level 30, pretty simple.

After you collect 10 totem sticks, have a friend to along. You go to the "Circle of Binding Area" (shown on the map, southeast of Refuge Camp ; location 52,50) Click on the totem stick when you're at the center stone. A bolt will come down (above the stone), click it and loot. Remember to have a friend along to grab the attention of the Elementals.

I've killed about 20 and got all 10 totems. It's not a hard q. But maybe the reason of quick gathering of the totems was that I got a 'lil bit high lvl against the trolls...i was 40 then. So maybe it's true that on lower lvls drop would be not that good.

I killed the Witherbark trolls and got the totems then I killed the elementals and placed the staff at the middle stone in Circle Of Outer Binding, but after it was placed some Horde came and killed me over and over and when they had left I couldnt click the stone anymore. Now that I returned to the Witherbark Trolls they dont seem to drop the totems anymore? Anyone had the same experience?

Ya know who gives a rat's a? about the count, if ya got the quest they drop, took me 20 mins to get the dang brambles.

Which circle do you do the sticks in? most of them have elementals around them, so can someone be more specific.

Go to the circle of outer binding near refuge point. Kill the air elementals there (39ish) to clear out the circle, then get close to the center keystone and right click your totem sticks.

The sticks will poof from your inventory and the bolt charged bramble will appear on top of the keystone. You must loot the bolt charged bramble from the keystone and go back to Tabetha with it and a Jade.

this quest is easssy!
all u gta do is go to them green trolls kik their bums, and i gt summin like 75 % drop

u'll find the trolls around the lake at 68,65. once u have 10 totem sticks, head to 52,50, the circle of outer binding.

my drop rat for the totems was about 1 stick per every 6 trolls

u guys know what 0.2% is about? both player killing with quest and without quest will be counted.the actual droprate is about 50% high

When you're standing next to the CENTER STONE within the CIRCLE OF OUTER BINDING 'RIGHT CLICK' on the TOTEM STICKS and then COLLECT THE BRAMBLE by CLICKING on the STICK above the STONE.

I'm a 42 mage, and this was super simple. Took me 20 minutes tops. But make sure you go to the circle of outer binding, not one of the others (I didn't have this problem, but I hear it can become an issue) Good luck all, and thanks for the help!

I did this one on Lv35-36, solo. You can clear the mobs one by one so that's no problem (as long as you heal after every mob =P). So it's quite doable. ^^

i confirm it, any witherbark in the zone drops Witherbark Totem Sticks, the drop rate is good

This drop rate has changed since 2004 Onwards, im getting on 90% kills so far >post 2024.
