This dropped off a mob in Nespirah in Shimmering Expanse while questing as a level 81. I had already leveled my Jewelcrafting a little, so I had the 475 required, I don't know if it will drop for you before 475 and then let you start it later.
To complete this quest, you would need to collect the materials mentioned and make sure broken item is in your inventory and you will get a "Click to Complete Quest" message and it will "restore" it to this item. I was a little confused by the "Requires Restoration" tool tip, thinking it was a skill I needed to learn, but it was only telling me to restore the item, not learn something.
Materials can be farmed or purchased.
It's a very nice tank trinket and it's not too hard to do, as long as mats are available to you.

ETA: I was not tank specced, just a Paladin questing as Ret...so, I assume as long as you can have the spec to use the item, it can drop. I also got both Int trinkets.

So the only way to actually get any of the JC trinkets is to run around and kill random mobs and hope for it to drop? and then I need to be lucky enough that it's the quest item for the correct trinket? or is it something I'm missing here?

edit: guess we can rule that part out since the 1st and 3rd comment states different location and there has also been a drop location added with a 3rd spot.

Rushed to 85 asap, did the whole non sleep thing, I've since worked my ass off gearing up and leveling my professions, but as it looks as though my efforts have been undermined by the fact that I am yet to see this item drop for any at level 85. I have farmed every mob in deepholm, Stonecore itself (not to mentoin countless heroics) and completed the entire quest lines of each zone since hitting 85 and leveling my JC over 475.

This is currently bugged and will not drop if your character is 85.

There is also apparently a work around which involves grouping with a sub 85 JC : http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1406226700

This has been fixed and these are now dropping for 85 characters.

Good news! If you know someone who's not yet level 85 but has 475 jewelcrafting you can team with them and farm the item. You cannot see the item drop or get rolled for, however the other person can loot it and then trade it to you.

i´ve been Farming for this one in 10 hours now.

And i did see that some pps wrote abit about the drop etc etc here . and then with a non-lvl 85 with JC 475+. it actually did help.... but not for the Recipe i want. All other Figurines than ´Figurine - Earthen guardian´ Did drop , and ive been killing mobs in 3 hours with a lvl 74 with 476 Jewelcrafting.

but 10-11 hours+ and about 5000 mobs killed. i haven´t seen anything yet. and dont wanna spend more time on it......

These JC items are also class bound -- farmed for an hour with a sub-85/475 JC mage, and got three Serpents. Got a paladin to come out, and got a Boar and Guardian in the next 3 minutes.

The mage could see the Boar as soon as the paladin came within range, but "did not meet requirements" to loot. The mage could not loot the Guardian either.

Edit: This has been fixed.

I can confirm that this WILL drop for you if you are level 85. I was farming for it in the Master's Gate in Deepholm (twilight mobs) and it dropped for me after 20 kills. I have 503 JC.

Requires grinding many mobs. The Jaspertip Swarmer together with Stone Bat allows for exactly that. Got both the Boar and the Earthen for me and my buddy (so 4 total) in half an hour of grinding mobs.

Dropped for me from a random (lvl 85) mob inside The Hole in Tol Barad, at level 85 on my Paladin. I also received a King of Boars from the group of mobs around 20 mobs earlier. A Jewelled Serpent also dropped from the Alliance mobs in Slagworks. They seem to be rather rare, but they do drop. I had been farming lower level mobs, so I don't know if it is due to the level of the mobs or because I had a ticket in complaining and a GM did something.

Sadly I was looking for the spirit version.

Had this drop today on my level 85 Paladin JC with 504 JC. It appears to have been fixed it 85s couldn't get it before as another person in my guild also got it.

For the 85's looking for this, make sure you're currently killing quest mobs for this. I farmed for 5 hours in Vashjir on the Gilgoblins like people said to do, but wasn't doing any questing. Just killing them arbitrarily. However, today, while questing in the new PvP zone Tol'Barad, I was killing the spiders in the middle of the area, FOR THE QUEST, and my Figurine dropped.

Just to clarify, I am a level 85 prot pally, who leveled JC to 475+ AFTER hitting 85.

Either that, or they fixed it.

This was bugged so that level 85 jewelcrafters could not see this drop, but as of 12/13/2010 it seems to be fixed. Just got one to drop off a pack of Jaspertip Swarmers in western Deepholm.

The bug that would'nt allow lvl 85 475 JC's pick up this quest item, seems to be fixed. I just picked up the boar and the earthen guardian 4 mobs apart and i was able to loot and accept both quests. I killed maybe 6 or so Living Blood's in deathwings path with success in obtaining these quest items.

This has now been fixed. I can confirm as of today in tol barad i killed mobs for about 15min and got both the dps and tank one (im dk).

I'm lvl 85 with 515 jc and I didn't start lvling it from 450 until I hit 85.

I got all my JC trinket items just by doing dailies in Tol Barad. Got the caster ones first, but in the end the tank-trinket I needed most.

They all dropped from miscellanous mobs there. I suggest you go there - do dailies - kill alot of mobs, and you'll get the ones you need eventually. I got drops at 495 JC and 525 JC skill. I was however lvl 85 when I was there killing mobs. I did not have to kill alot of mobs to get them.

Level 83 Prot Pally with 486 JC.. I got both healing trinkets and the melee dps one within seconds of eachother, however i've farmed a good couple hours for the tanking one with no luck.. anyone having this problem?

Farming is much more easier then i thought, i got ; Figurine - Dream owl (5min) , Figurine - Demon Panther (8min), Figurine - Earthen Guardian (15 min) after 15 min farming Jaspertip Swarmer and Stone Bat.

You may do as me and use Potion of Treasure Finding

This dropped for me off of a Pulsing Geode in the Crimson Expanse in Deepholm @ lvl 85 w/ JC skill 476. I killed Fungal Behemoths for an hour w/ no luck, but when I gave up and went to kill the Geodes for the JC elemental goo daily it dropped on the first kill.

Look under the "Dropped by" tab and sort by %. The Schnottz Infantrymen at the top have the highest % but are also among the least killed+looted. They're at the Obelisk of the Moon and the reason they're among the least looted is probably that they're the guys you kill from afar with the cannon for the daily quest.

Turns out you can also engage them in normal melee combat. There are 9 of them plus one elite in each group. I (prot warr) managed to kill one such group and the second one I looted dropped this figurine. There's a considerable difference in the drop rate between those and the other mobs listed (The 0.4% Tol'Vir merchants are in an instance and not grindable) so I would suggest this as the best place to grind for it. There's an infinite number of them and the respawn rate is insane due to the daily quest mechanic. Best of luck!

Wanted to confirm that I got this from the Schnottz Infantrymen in about 30 minutes of farming. However, unlike Lightful's vid you can do this easier (but slower). The Schnottz Infantrymen do not aggro each other, nor do they aggro the elite. So just stand back at range and pull them. They will break formation and come at you one at a time... there is no need to charge in and try and get the entire pack at once.

This makes it slower than Lightful's method, but much safer (especially if you are not a DK tank ;) )

Go kill the Schnottz infantry men. I killed like, Four and it dropped. I tried killing the bog guys in Deepholme for about 35 minutes. I killed a ton and never dropped, also killed the scavengers in Deepholme as well and nothing. Try infantry men in Uldum, they have the highest drop rate for this item.

here's what i can confirm at 1/13/2011 with JC at level 475!

i went to deepholm, farmed 1 group of bats, it dropped the item but it gave me a quest. a quest to gather X amount of bars, etc.

1. it's a quest, u will NOT learn how to make it.
2. it drops pretty often off those bats in deepholm
3. i cannot confirm if it will drop a 2nd time after u turned in the quest. i would love to have 2 tanking trinkets

Farmed these lil guys for 20 minutes and got both dps and tank trinks as well ad 4 greens ad almost 2 stacks of embersilk cloth. Not a bad 20 minute farm. I am a lvl 85 prot warrior with 506 JC.

I found all 4 Figurines at the Maker's Ascent.

I spent around 20-30 minutes killing the three packs of mobs at the top.

I also figured out you can pull the Elite patroling with the packs without agroing the others, you just need to pull him with a ranged attack. Once he is dead just kill the other guys by themselfs

Anyone unlucky enough to have to go out and farm for this-

It is indeed a world drop, you can get it in any 81+ zone, so go wherever you want, but a good place to farm it (and any other figurine you might want or need) is on the shore north of dragonmaw port. Best for lvl 85s but there is an invasion of naga going on non-stop and so the respawn time is very fast. I got mine in about 30 minutes after trying in various places for a few hours as well as running about 10 heroics.

Hope this helps, but mostly i hope this doesnt take you as long to get as it took me.

While farming for Efficient Excavations on , I had both Figurine - Earthen Guardian and Figurine - King of Boars in under 15 minutes... Have killed about 25 tops, still no Efficient Excavations, but still feeling very lucky now! ^^

Edit: Forgot to mention my jewelcrafting skill was 491 :)
