Dropped from Abyssal Clam at random. Unlike other pearls, it is a grey item and only seems to have a 4 gold value (at this time).

I too am curious, will hold on to them awhile, its the lack of a classification ie. Misc or junk, it isn't labeled as either.

Classified as a quest item for me, and like others, I am hanging on to mine for a while, we'll see if anything happens.

Classified as “Gem - Simple” here, and like the rest of you, this is definitely going in the bank, given that I’ve only gotten one out of about 100 clams.

If it was for a quest then Wowhead would've datamined said quest by now. As it stands, the item probably isn't used for anything.

I must've opened hundreds of those clams and until today I had no idea these things existed... or the even more rare flawless pearl... :O

No real reason to keep these. It is obvious that Blizzard only made this a possible drop due to the fact that it makes the pearls you can use seem that much more special. Just be happy you got 4 gold from blizz for playing the free "Abyssal Clam Jackpot Lottery"

I had to check about this item myself, because in all the time I've played, I've probably looted hundreds of these, and only today did I actually receive, not one, but two from a stack of 6 clams. I must say I feel rather lucky!
