Wasn't this a quest item for a quest in the Hinterlands as well? And a trade good for a tailoring pattern for Admiral's Hat...or something to that effect? I was looking for that quest but it looks like WoW Head doesn't have it.

It would seem that in 3.1 these will be worthless. The only item that requires these feathers to make, Fletcher's gloves, is getting changed and will no longer need these. Currently on the PTR these feathers are still white, but because they aren't used for anything, you can safely vendor them; they're vendor junk.

These used to drop off harpies and carrion birds between levels 23 to 50. At Patch 3.10 Fletcher's Gloves that required four of these now requires 4 Medium Cured Hides instead and the item is vendor trash.

Just thought I'd interject that from the above chart, Badlands is the best place to farm these feathers....but what do I know... I'm only a dwarf....very fast over short distances.

So there is no use for these unless you are a LW, and even then you might not even bother to make them unless you are a hunter.

The gloves that require these feathers aren't very sought after, so in my opinion these are vendor trash, considering how often they drop.

the gloves that require these feathers are some of the most OP hunter gloves. 14 crit rating is over 3% crit at level 20. i made them for my first hunter and will make them again on my next. great for any spec of hunter. will most likely last until the mail dragonscale gloves at level 40.

If you're in your late teens to early 20's, the harpies in the Charred Vale is your best bet for long tail feathers. Both factions have a quest here:

Arathi is a good place to get them, as is Tanaris. They drop very frequently for me (night elf warrior). I send them over to my leatherworker, works great for me :)

I've gotten 15 of these from harpies in the charred vale, just by doing the quest (can't remember what it's called exactly) so they drop quite frequently, for me at least :)

I need long tail feathers for something i make with leather, this has been one of the hardest thing to get, in westfall, there is no Vultros that I can find, in the stonetalon mountains, i killed many of the bloodfury things and only got 1 feather, in ashenvale there is no beast called sharptalon, and i get best up too much (im a lvl 32 hunter) for badlands. any suggests would help = ))

My girlfriend has had some phenomenal luck with the buzzards in the Arathi Highlands. These are the only things we've found so far that consistantly drop Long Tail Feathers. We spend a fair amount of time there as a result.

Long tail feathers are now gray vendor trash, and do not appear to be used in any more recipes since Bliz decided to "simplify" many recipes having odd mats.

These seem to drop from any middle lvl (25-40) feathered creature, no preference between harpies, buzzards, etc. It's just that wherever there are harpies, they are always in bunches and people tend to think that they drop more. Not necessarily, it's just that you have more chance to kill many of them in a single location. Buzzards and other stuff tend to be quite widespread, but for me they seem to have similar drop chance.

Now, these feathers are only used for making leatherworking Fletcher's Gloves

Rogues, shammys, and druids will avoid these due to the 1% reduction in parry chance for close combat, but hunters will benefit from the nice 1% crit chance for projectiles.

If you don't have much luck with them in the AH, at least you can disenchant them for some mats: 75% Strange Dust, 15% Lesser Astral Essence, 10% Small Glimmering Shard.

I got around 12 of them in 30 minutes in Charred Vale.
Harpies drop them all the time.
