In ancient Greek times, when someone died their family members would place a coin under the tongue of the deceased. This was for use in the afterlife-----when the deceased's spirit would arrive at the entrance to the Underworld, they would have to pay Charon, the ferryman, to ferry them across the river Styx into the underworld.

Sub par trinket for most situations, get a stam or armor trink. Nice for gear score!

People are heavily underestimating this trinkets' worth. Yes, ICC nom noms up your dodge. Yes, the proc may or may not be useful. But, like any good tank knows: trinkets are always situational. I use the regular version outside of ICC for pretty much everything --- it's great for heroics and ToC/ToGC (at least 10 man). In ICC, while it's uses are more limited, they're still there. For Marrowgar and Deathwhisper it's pretty worthless, as even in hardmodes Marrowgar usually isn't bringing the tank below 35% in regular conditions. For the Gunship, it has it's uses. It really shines on Festergut and Saurfang, in my opinion, since more avoidance is best on Saurfang, and when the heals are preoccupied with people who have Mark of the Fallen Champion, the proc might kick in for ya and keep you up until the other tank taunts. This is a more likely scenario in hardmodes though. For Festergut, especially if you're like me and you're second in the taunting order and taking 3-inhales, which is monstrous in 25 hardmode and regular he hits pretty damn hard too, the proc is invaluable. The dodge is nice too. Dodging one of those fast-train wrecking hits is great. But, if you got a healer down or forced to move because of spore duty, since Fester is physical damage, this proc could save you.

It's uses on Rotface and Putricide are meh. I've had it go for me on Putticide P3 but it's not really useful for a majority of this fight. Blood Princes it's alright, but, there are better alternatives. The 10-man Putricide trinket, for instance, would be great for tanking Taldaram and Valanar. Lana'thel isn't particularily hard-hitting, so, the proc is almost useless. If you're MTing her, the dodge is nice because if you dodge an attack, it's like double dodging since your OT takes no damage as well.

Dreamwalker it's decent for. Not much to say about it there, really. Sindragosa it would be horrible for since she does mostly magic damage and the armor proc would be useless for that, and the dodge would be of little use as well. For the Lich King, it would be better if you were on the boss rather than adds.

Well, that's my ICC analysis of this trinket. It is definitely situational, but, also definitely not worthless, and I'd love to get the heroic version of it.

Mitigation through armor and block, like all nonthreat specific tanking stats, increases your survivability. But it has the added bonus of relieving healer strain by taking smaller hits each time. Stamina increases the margin of error your healers can have by allowing you to take more hits before receiving a heal. Parry increases your threat as well as adding a random amount of avoidance, while dodge only provides a random amount of avoidance for most classes.

The reason this trinket has dodge on it is probably that block and parry are specific to certain classes and having a high end tanking trinket with class specific stats would be a bit harsh. Absorb/Stam and Stam/Stam proc had also been done through badges and the previous tiers of content respectively.

A bear might gain the most out of this trinket due to the talent "Natural Reaction", though paladins also gain resources when dodging due to blessing of sanctuary. I'm not sure of the other tanks affinity to dodge.

Incidentally, it's not -that- bad a trinket. Dodge is generally regarded as sub par for most tanks, but that's due to fights where Effective Health is king (which, admittedly, is most fights in cutting edge content).

For a tank looking for more balanced all-round stats (especially if 10-man focussed), this is a viable option when paired with at least one stamina trinket. Note that the benefit of the proc is difficult to measure as it will give less overall bonus armor than the Black Heart, but will give it at a time when it's really quite useful.

The trinket does pair very well with Blood Draining enchant at least - when taken under 35% both will proc (tested) which does give a warrior/bear tank a kind of pseudo mini-Ardent Defender effect.

Bottom Line - it's not great, but it's such high item level that it's not worth letting it get sharded if you have a clearly inferior trinket. I'd likely use the 277 version over the glyph of indomitability on most fights, but would pick any two of Corroded, Sindragosa or Unidentified Organ (and possibly black heart) instead. It's a good filler trinket until you get one of the uber ICC10 stamina/armor options to pair with your Corpse Tongue.

Since patch 4.0, this is one of the best trinkets to get a few percentage more towards the "block cap" of 102.4%, moreso if you're a Protection Paladin and choose to reforge some of the dodge into mastery (which increases your chance to block).

Due to the way armor and stamina scale with eachother, this trinket is still easily up there even at level 85, as the armor proc has become a lot more powerful relatively.
