This dropped as an extra item in 10 man when we did Alone in the Darkness (0 Keeper used). It did not count towards the "hard" mode item, even though it is ilvl 226.

The trinket can spawn 1 of 3 different type of tentacles.

The crusher tentacle melee's for ~800 and has a "crush" ability which hits for more. The crush can crit for 2200.

The corruptor tentacle uses an "acidic poison" attack. It hits for ~1100 nature damage. It can attack from range.

The constrictor tentacle melee's and stacks a bleed damage attack. It can stack up to 9 or so times before the tentacle despawns. Bleed effect lasts 15 seconds and ticks every 3 seconds. Each stack adds 150 damage and 3% reduced movement speed to the bleed effect.

I see that 2 of the 3 possible tentacles do melee attacks. If a ranged class used the trinket how would it work ? Would the tentacle spawn at the nearest enemy and attack as normal or would it just end up sitting next to you doing nothing ?

Looks like an interesting trinket but as a ranged class myself it would be a shame to take it only to find out later that it's pretty useless.

Amusing posts aside, this is a fairly worthy dps trinket assuming you use it often and use it intelligently.

Attached are some parses from some mixed raid encounters - Vault of Archavon, Onyxia's Lair, and both Normal and Heroic Trial of the Crusader. All parses are 25man raids.

Note: Probably highest dps due to the fact that its highest-damage attack, Acidic Poison, is ranged and thus he isn't melee-limited like the other tentacles.

Note: Unsure if this one's special attack, Crush, can crit. Does not appear to be able to crit, but more testing will prove it for sure.

Note: Low dps but not by a huge margin.

Each tentacle was doing, on average, about 350 dps. Specific numbers were 382.3 dps (Corruptor), 369.3 (Crusher), and 317.6 (Constrictor). On the same night, I did, on averege, about 7.8k dps; my gargoyle did, on average, 1.8k dps; and my ghoul, on average, did about 900 dps. Therefore, my "typical" dps was 10500 dps. That, combined with the tentacle, is about 10850 dps (on average).

This means that the tentacle accounted for about 3% of my total combined dps across me and all my pets. Not bad considering some bosses ended up getting moved shortly after I popped the tentacle. Given its uptime (optimally 33% - 40sec duration, 2min CD), it'd be about a 1-1.5% dps increase, on par with most other trinkets of its item level.

In short, if you use this trinket correctly, it's at least as good as other trinkets available for its item level.

Crusher: 25,200hp

Oh, and can be fully raid-buffed as well... I pulled a crusher out in ICC and it had 40k hp FULLY raid buffed... mmm...

I have this trinket on my Ret paladin and it's hard to evaluate mostly because there's not a lot of hard data for it. There are a lot of comments for this trinket. A lot of them funny but not particularly useful. I've yet to see this trinket modeled properly. Rawr for example is way off. Rawr appears to include the dps from the static136crit rating but assigns zero dps from the tentacles. This trinket is not competitive with other dps trinkets unless the tentacles dps is added and used effectively. “Effectively” is the key word here as a tentacle killed 1 second after being summoned is a complete waste of a 2min cooldown.

Summary: Useful for melee dps only that value crit highly. There are better and easier to get trinkets you likely already have. But excellent for a ilvl 226 trinket.
Average dps contribution only from the on use ability= 127 dps.
Plus whatever you get from 136 crit rating.

100% Drop from 10man Yogg+0. A fight on par with the more difficult bosses from ICC10 normal.
Use activated, 2min CD casts Summon Random Vanquished Tentacle,
which results in one of 3 possible stationary Tentacles:

Vanquished Crusher Tentacle -

25,200hp +buffs
Attacks:
70% Melee: 661 average normal hit
30% Crush: 1388 to 1612 dmg within 8yrds. 0.6sec cast time. All other trinket attacks are instant.
Notes: Single target. Affected by armor so hits are more like 950dmg each.
Observed dps: 435 dps. (40/120sec) = 145dps

Vanquished Constrictor Tentacle -

12,600hp +buffs
Attacks:
60% Melee: 320 average normal hit
40% Constricting Rend: 150 Physical damage inflicted every 3 sec. 5Yrd range. Movement speed slowed by 3%.
Notes: Rend is stacking bleed dot that can get up to about 9 stacks before the tentacle despawns. Only attack that the trinket cannot crit on.
Observed dps: 260 dps. (40/120sec) = 87 dps

Vanquished Corruptor Tentacle -

12,600hp +buffs
Attacks:
5% Melee: 350 average normal hit
95% Acidic Poison: aprox 1060 nature dmg. All other trinket damage is 100% physical.
Notes: This tentacle does highly random dps. Sometimes it's the highest of the set, sometimes the lowest. Can attack from range but doesn't seem to all the time. Very buggy.
Observed dps: 450 dps. (40/120sec) = 150 dps

They last for 40 seconds unless destroyed. The tentacles are pretty tough but since they can be destroyed you have to pick and choose which fights to use them on. For example, the trinket is useful on Lady Deathwhisper but not useful on Sindragosa. Tentacles can be targeted, buffed, healed, affected by auras and benefit debuffs on their target like sunder. They do not benefit from your buffs, stats, procs etc. This means if you cast Blessing of Might on yourself they get no benefit, but cast it on them and they do benefit. They get no benefit from pally wings. Heroism helps them after they are summoned but not before they are summoned. Etc. An unholy deathknight (like the poster above) might get the most bang out of this trinket. (I can't test pet talents and the tentacles MAY benefit from them.)

The Tentacles can hit, miss, glance, block and be parried. Since they don't benefit from your hit, or expertise etc this happens a lot. They crit for double dmg but have a low crit rating. So low it's likely zero + whatever buffs they get from the raid. The corruptor tentacle attacks like a warlock in melee with a dagger... poorly and with a huge chance to be a glancing blow*. Both of it's attacks are based on spellhit therefore missing 17% of the time where all the other attacks seem to be based on the 8% melee miss rate.

*Increased chance for casters like a mage, warlock, priest to inflict glancing blows was removed but so far NOT for corruptor tentacles. They continue to glance a lot which is disappointing since you always want to pop this trinket in melee.

Average dps contribution only from the on use ability= 127 dps. (450+260+435)/3 tentacles * 40/120sec
Plus whatever you get from 136 crit rating.

Keep in mind that the 127 dps number is a very rough average because the large amount of randomness involved (which tentacle you get, what raid buffs are present, if the boss is moved etc) make this a highly variable trinket. But it does not scale based on your gear or your level. Whatever dps you can get out of it in your best gear is the same dps you will get out of it naked.

This trinket is amazing for use in BGs. Dropped on an AB flag the crusher tentacle prevents caps and crit has a higher stat weight in PVP in general.

Is it the highest DPS or the best on-use? No. Is it the most fun or the most eye-catching trinket ingame? Absolutely. Drop a tentacle at the bank or in a crowd and be the center of attention. Everybody should try get one of these trinkets, which are actually quite rare due to very few people wanting to slog through Ulduar 10-man anymore.

I tanked "Alone in the Dark" last night (First time doing Yogg : / ) and it dropped (I think it's 100%), lost the roll however. Guildie who got it summoned it on Gamon, was pretty funny. I have run AQ40 about 10 times, saw the C'Thun one drop once, but lost the roll.

Again, like the C'Thun one, not the best raiding trinket, but it gets a 10/10 for awesomeness. I hope to have both some day, but it sucks it's impossible to solo either of them.

Just want to add that this is a very useful tool for a solo priest. You can use this trinket >> Fade and the mobs will go for the tentacles giving you 10 seconds of free casting. It is the same with the Shadowfiend >> Fade trick, but lasts much longer. With Glyph of Fade and Veiled Shadow reducing Fade`s cooldown to 15 seconds, you can Fade 3 times before the tentacle dies, giving you free 30 seconds to blow anything the tentacle is tanking for you.

This makes farming Raptor/Tiger Mount much easier. I can just drop the tentacle and shoot The`kal down before a heal is even casted. I think this trinket will be very useful for leveling and I will definitely keep it equiped until I hit 85.

Got mine today from our Ulduar mount run, rolled a 95 which was nice. Such a fun trinket to have, 2min CD and its out for 1minute!

Using it in great places in Org like outside the AH, people crowding around looking at it, great trinket and something i wont be deleting.

After taking a long time to collect both Vanquished Clutches of Yogg-Saron and Vanquished Tentacle of C'Thun I was quite excited to learn that the Madness of Deathwing encounter will be dropping https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=77191#comments (Gurthalak, Voice of the Deeps isn't in the normal Wowhead database yet) to add to the tentacles flying around. After a lot of testing (and waiting for cooldowns), I've determined the following info about the tentacles:

Confirmed Information:

Tentacle lasts for 40 seconds.
The tentacle stays summoned even if you switch trinkets. Therefore, you can pre-cast this before pull.
Tentacle attacks the target you are attacking, and does not engage unless you engage. In general, you cannot snapshot the trinket. Gear does not seem to have any effect on DPS and Bloodlust does not affect the tentacle, regardless of whether you cast it before/after casting the tentacle.
You can macro casting the tentacle & swapping to your correct trinket.
Tentacle damage can vary significantly based on dodges/misses.
Crusher damage varies significantly based on how many Crushes land.
Constrictor damage varies significantly based on how early and often Rend lands.

Ranges of each tentacle:

Corrupter - 40 yards
Crusher - 5 yards
Constrictor - 5 yards

Theorized information:

Corruptor tends to be the most common tentacle (45-50% of the time).
Average damage done for all tentacles: 11.3k over 40 seconds.
Average damage done for Corrupter tentacle: 11.6k over 40 seconds.
On average, the trinket gives 100 dps for a 2 minute fight.
