The second Equip ability is supposed to be an On Use ability

Not only would 258 expertise be extremely broken, but at the end, it says for 20 seconds.

Also, if you mouse over the ability, it shows the buff you get from the on use ability: Chagrin

This trinket seems quite nice at first glance, but expertise from a proc seems a bit odd to me, since you'll probably want to be expertise capped passively from items, racials and/or talents, instead of relying on a proc to rule out dodges. Besides, the amount of expertise from the proc is higher than 5.6% dodge reduction at lvl80, so a portion of the buff will be useless, and even more useless the more expertise you already have from items, racials or talents.

The only time I can think of when you'd gain full benefit from the proc would be against a raid boss with ~15% parry while tanking, but if you're tanking a raid boss you shouldn't be using this trinket anyway.

Seriously, a proc that reduces your outgoing dodges/parries (which are already rare) is too random compared to procs that increase AP, which will ALWAYS increase your dps.

As a DK, expertise isn't high on my priority list, but this trinket procs a LOT, and is very nice. I ignore expertise gear entirely.

I think this trinket is very strong if used under particular conditions and you consider the time scales.

what you have here is a trinket that will for any melee class that puts in an initial rapid sucession of attacks (6-7) within the first 3-4 seconds your going to give your self an almost 100% chance of negating a massive chunk of an opponents dodge and parry (7.8%)

The hidden minute cooldown then lends it's self well to the intermitant and burst nature of PVP

It also works well for anyone who is leveling (consider a single or double mob fight duration to probably last 30 seconds tops) your travel time to the next mob is likely to take the next 30 seconds thus your actual up time while in combat in that situation is probably a lot higher than what the flat % proc might suggest.

lastly if you consider dungoneering. unless you wizzing through chain pulling a dungon then you'll probably find this trinket once again has a quite high combat up time, trash mobs rarely surviving longer then 20 seconds under 5/10 man assault every pull/other pull your chance to connect is soaring by 7-14 % for pretty much the entire duration of the fight.

brilliantly suited to instances like violet hold in my opinion. And perhaps bosses too that fit to a regular cycle of phases (anomilus ?)

and if you choose to have this as your only expertise item then your able to stack other stacks (attack power or is derivatives) . It would be interesting to see if numbers support this.

I think people are looking at this trinket in the wrong way. It's a pretty poor dps trinket, especially when you compare it with other green trinkets available around the same time (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=43838 and https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=39889 to name a few).

This trinket fills an odd niche for a tank, actually. It's one of the best threat trinkets you can get while you're gearing up, and even if you are at the expertise soft cap (26 expertise skill), the trinket proc will still lower the chance for higher level (especially boss) mobs to parry. The attack power provides constant additional threat as well. Obviously you'd never want this for a serious encounter where you need all the survivability you can get out of your trinket slots, but if you're way overgeared for an encounter and need some additional threat, this isn't bad. It's also one of the few 'tanking' trinkets you can get outside of instances and raids as well, so it's a decent start for any tank. Obviously mileage will vary. And as stated, the expertise proc is a lot more useful to DK, warrior, and druid tanks than it is to paladin tanks.

I have to respectfully disagree what the majority on this trink.

106 passive AP on a green is nothing to laugh at. On top of that, if you're short on expertise, the proc on this trink is awesome. As far as some of the expertise being "wasted" WHO CARES...The trink does what it's designed to do....wipe dodges and parries off the table when it procs...

And pre-raid, good gear with hit is MUCH easier to find than good gear with expertise...at least in plate....If u have the Titansteel Destroyer, The Spiked Titansteel Helm, and the Staggering Legplates, those three pieces alone will put you over the soft hit cap (assuming you took precision, and there really isn't any reason you shouldn't have)

I could understand Rogues not liking this piece, as their gear is LOADED with expertise both pre-raid and raiding....but for plate dps, this trink is pretty damn good, especially for being a green.

This would be the case if you were level capped and had some solid lvl 80 gear on you. Players doing this quest aren't gonna be hit capped as soon as they hit 80 on their character and this is a great trinket to compensate for the missing hit cap before they get better gear. One of the best pre-80 trinkets you can get in my opinion.

While soloing, parry and dodge will be at around 5% each, assuming mobs are two levels above at highest. You'll need about 132 expertise rating at lvl77 to negate that parry and dodge, not including racials, talents or items. Granted you have no expertise at all from this, the buff will still give you (258-132) 126 absolutely useless expertise rating.

Just got this on my ret pally at L77 and fighting L80 mobs in icecrown so the 40ish expertise this gives at 77 still isn't enough to overcome the parry (60 ish expertise). This would continue to apply at 78 vs 81s and 79 vs 82s (and 80 vs bosses if for some reason you HAD to stand in front).

Not saying this by any means great but it's by not wasted.

This is good for starting out. I.E Still in quest greens and blues. Its not a bad trinket to have if you pick up at 77 because most mobs are already above you in level in Icecrown and Storm Peaks and if you arent rolling out in your BC raid gear with hit and expertise like most melee's were at the beginning of wrath then this is good.

I've used this on my melee alts and love it.

You guys are missing the REAL point of this trinket. Obviously it is designed for fighting mobs your own level while you level up weapon skill :)

I'm surprised nobody mentioned that when this thing DOES proc (which is fairly often), the icon on the buff bar is an Alliance flag. My Tauren feels dirty whenever it procs :(... wonder why Blizz didn't either give it a different buff icon or else make a it a reward from an Alliance-only quest?

Stupid tiny detail, I know, but still...

Maybe its for PvP? More chance of one's MS landing against those pesky rogues and druids who love to dodge all of one's attacks.
