How does this book teach you higher learning? Why it teleports you into the tallest spires of Dalaran of course.

And there's a typo on it: This spell only work in the City of Dalaran.

Sounds like an ogre wrote it.

Edit: In beta (and possibly in early live) this typo was present, but I'm keeping it here because it's funny.

I notice that this doesn't say Bind on Pickup, is it tradeable? Or this is an oversight that will be fixed before live. Otherwise I see no reason why I couldn't do this on bank alts, and sell this in trade chat.

Of possibly only trivial interest: I checked the map whilst in Archmage Vargoth's Retreat, and his chamber seems to occupy the summit of the southern tower of the Violet Citadel - the tower on the left as you face the Citadel on the front steps. It's opposite the Purple Parlor and essentially the same size, but higher up.

There's a non-functional door in the chamber, but according to the map, it would open to the outside of the tower rather than into the central spire. If you look up whilst in the chamber, you can see a ring of bookshelves below a blue stained-glass skylight, so he seems to be right at the top.

Edit: I did a visual survey from way back at the Violet Hold with a Spyglass, and his doorway does indeed seem to open onto a balcony. It would seem the only way he can reach his chambers is to teleport there - no wonder he says he's lonely!

Info:

The books are on spawn timers anywhere from 3 hours to 4 hours

Each book only spawns in one location (so once you find it you do not need to keep checking that location)

Book spawn times are shared with non-achievement books (so you may see a book spawn and it will not be the one you need)

Each location seems to have 2-3 other books (non-achievement) which spawn in that location (randomly)

If you read the book it will disappear within 3min (resetting the spawn timer)

If you do not read the book it will disappear within 5min (resetting the spawn timer)

If an achievement book does spawn, more than one player can read the book and get the credit for reading it. (if they read it within 3min of the first person who read it)

When I find a book I announce it within trade chat so if other would like to read it they can (providing they can get to it within 3min)

Ask around if others are looking for books, group up, spread out to keep your eyes on multiple locations, share spawn timer info (this greatly reduces the amount of running around)

Books (locations):

Location: Dalaran Visitor Center (52.2,55.5), on the floor to the right as you go in, in front of the little table with books on it

Location: Violet Citadel (30.9,46.3), group of bookcases on the right as you go in, Bottom of the left bookcase.

Location: Violet Citadel (26.5,51.7), Up the stairs to the left, on the floor in front of the bookcase, next to the sands of time portal.

Location: Threads of Fate (Cloth Armor shop)(43.6,47.1), Go up stairs out on the balcony on top of a crate to your right as you walk out onto the balcony.

Location: Violet Hold (64.5,52.8), as you go in head to the left and against the wall on the left crate, next to Archmage Timear.

Location: Violet Gate (Crystal Portal)(56.7,46.1), to your right as you enter (northern bookcase) on the floor in front of bookcase.

Location: Legerdermain Lounge (46.9,39.1), Upstairs west room, empty bookcase

Location: Legerdermain Lounge (46.9,39.8), 1st floor western bookcase near the door

If you need to delete the book for any reason you can, in fact, receive another one by speaking to Rhonin in the Violet Citadel

You need to complete the achievement to receive the pet, A warlock summon will bring you to the room, but you will not get the pet from talking to Archmage Vargoth.

Since patch 3.0.8 there is a loading screen when teleporting in or out Vargoth's Retreat.

Lately what I have done is create a couple of macros that I use when I don't want to be disturbed while I wait for raid or something.

Macro 1 - Leave all channels, port up to Violet Citadel, ahhh, peace and serenity.

Macro 2 - Reverse everything I just did, arghhhhh, chaos and trade chat.

Edit: During Wrath of The Lichking this little trick was the shizzle since Dalaran was the idle-hub for both factions. Since the release of Cataclysm, Dalaran is practically desserted. The Schools of Arcane Magic - Mastery is still a fun vanity item, though.

Ever since I obtained The Schools of Arcane Magic - Mastery I've been teleporting to the tower whenever I want to log out for a while.

Completely lag free and easy way to log into Dalaran :D

Hands up who have flown to a tower in dalaran, dismounted and got stuck, unable to fly off, having to jump down and suffer 10 minutes rs. If you happen to get stuck with this in your bag, you can use it to teleport out. It teleports you here.

The Questhelper addon also has the locations for the books. In your achievement window you can select whether or not you want qh to show the locations.
It only keeps track of the books you haven't read yet, which can help a lot.

Funny that you mention it, but in the quest chain in Netherstorm where you craft the staff to be able to speak with Archmage Vargoth's Image, when you speak to him, he says "Some scry to remember, some scry to forget". Awesome Hotel California quest chain :D

This item can be used down in the Dalaran Sewers.

It can also be used during combat, namely duels.

Its cast time can also be easily fit into the duration of a Divine Shield.

Found Divination on 2nd FL of Violet Citadel to the left of the stairs. Spawns on the floor by the bookshelves.

Found the Necromancy one on the 2nd floor of the Ledgermain Inn left room, empty shelf on the bookshelf. Forgot to note the time, sorry.

Found Transmutation on the 1st floor of the Ledgermain Inn, bottom shelf near the stove by the door.

Found Introduction in the Violet Strand Rune Room right side of bookcase, left side of doorway facing out.

In WoW WotLK Classic this is now a toy and goes into your collection.

If you destroyed the item try talking to Rhonin

At least in Retail he will restore the item. Wasn't able to test myself in WotLK Classic.
