If you are a Fury warrior using either Titan's Grip or old school duel wielding these are not for you, if you currently are Engi just for the very good 70 helm you may want to think about another profession as the Blacksmithing 80 helm is vastly better.

It may have quite a bit less crit on it but it has quite a bit more strength and the 60 hit rating which is the most important stat that this helm lacks. You can easily make back the crit in other pieces since the Blacksmith helm has so much AP and Hit

Underwelming in it's current form.

The strength and stamina stats are the same as the tanking set (give or take a few points).

Plus there's no hit rating like the old Furious Googles.

Mega let down on these. They basicly just added stam and dumped the hit rating from the https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=34354. Engineering goggles just went from being some of the best head pieces in the game, to just an average, low lvl epic.

I'd like to see these dump some stam and get some str back into them. Maybe bump them another 20 str and drop 40 stam

The stats say this is usable at level 72, with 400 Engineering, but the Created By tab says this is trainable at 430. What engineering level do you have to be to craft and wear this? I'd love to be able to powerlevel engineering, buy the mats, and get this at 72 or sometime early.

Can't believe this is actually better than the Engineering goggles. TBC goggles was kinda unbeatable but ah well...

I'm not a math pro nor I'm gonna make some charts here, just saying this adds approx 20 more DPS than goggles.

So they're 72, but require an item that only drops in 80 heroics to create. Engineering is where gold goes to die.

On the plus side, I bet there will be schematics for an upgrade at 80.

Agreed. This is immediately replaced by the Tier 7 10 man helm.

So only useful for any Engineer until they clear Naxxramus, or whilst they're out farming Eternals. Though the latter functionality also can be achieved with the Belt-Clipped Spynoculars tinker, which would save on material cost if you wanted to just skip the specs entirely.

I'm pretty sure these are missing the +hit stat that they are supposed to have. Compare these to the https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=42549 and you'll see that they have about the same STR and STA and sockets. The tank ones have 60 def + 43 expertise while these only have 72 crit. Item budget should indicate around 30 hit rating would bring these up to par with the tanking goggles. Being that the previous goggle version, https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=34354, has half the hit as crit, I'd say this version deserves some hit rating added to it.

Now how do we convince the Blizzard dev team of this? :)

Not sure if anyone noticed but the Blacksmithing helm https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=41386has absolutely no stam, and only a meta socket. Loosing about 1k Hp there, also the loss of hit hurts.

I assuming that these are (from a warriors perspective) more itemised to arms warriors who don't need the hit, although all DPS pallies, shammies,warriors and DKs want more strength for more AP. My best guess is that this is for engineers who can't obtain the helm and want a good one going into raiding.

Although remember, these ARE taught by the trainers, and the best engineering goggles had a random drop chance from the hardest instance which were only introduced in a later patch.

I suspect the reason for these goggles being such a dissapointment is due to two factors: 1.Blizz saw how many people got the level 70 goggles and never needed a new helm, blizz hates it when people dont have to constantly replace their gear. Thus they did not repeat the same "mistake" this time. 2. Its entirley possible that blizz knew they were gonna make the level 70 goggles obsolete with the new expansion and only made them so good because they were temporary. If two things are true with blizzard is they like to make you spend as much time as possible on anything at the top level and they hate making things easy.

It is true these are very disappointing, but so are the first two tiers of the arena gear. Most of both sets have lower crit than the savage saronite gear - compare all three -

So really, considering how lame the first two tiers of WOTLK arena gear are, this really isnt that bad. You exchange resilience for crit. But if you do Arena, take into account the time it will take to get your team up to 1735 to get the Hateful Helm, so it would be worth your time to make this, plus the mats arent that tough to attain at all.

Any word on if blizz plan to add in any level 80 goggles? Lvl 70 goggles were available from Sunwell Plateau so it only make sense that we'll have a wrath version too, or so I hope.

For Retribution paladins, these are probably somewhere between the Spiked Titansteel helm and https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=40576. You lose hit rating compared Redemption (which can be offset slightly by socketing), but the crit rating of this helm will do far more than the Haste found on the Redemption Helms. This assumes, of course, that you already have the other four pieces of the set for your 4-piece bonus.

It's also useful to retain for fights with heavy AOE damage, as larger health pool buys your healers time to patch you up. It's also useful for farming, as it has built-in mote detection. And do you really need Spiked Titansteel to deal with outdoor trash mobs?

Speaking as a pvp oriented retribution paladin, I find these are actually a very good mix of stats for both arena and pve. Sure it may not have the flat out dps of a spiked titansteel helm, but heres the thing. As a retribution paladin, I'm looking for crit, and in that particular area this helm stands out. In pvp the thought of using an item like the titansteel one which has absolutely no stamina on it would be ludicrous. That is upwards of 1k health lost. And because the arena gear is so dissapointing, it's really no great deal to instead use this, giving you more crit and a slight bit of stealth detection to boot.

I seriously don't understand how everyone seems to hate this thing. Sure some hit would have been nice, but its still a beast for ret.

You're comparing a blue to an epic?

The Blacksmith made https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=41386 blows all of these away. It's one of the best helms you can get in the game atm. The goggles don't even compare. Check as many sources as you like in dps breakdown and they are very high.

When comparing the Mats to make the goggles as opposed to the https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=41386 I made my Goggles at lvl 71 eagerly awaiting them for lvl 72, with a mere 300g spent at the AH on the mats ... Don't think I could even compare that cost to the Titansteel... That's similar to the cost of 1.5 bars of Titansteel on my server.
These goggles could definitely use some hit .. maybe thats why they have a yellow socket...?

Alright here's how I see it. Blacksmithing is largely a PvE profession, with it's tanking gear here and dps gear there, and intended pretty much only for plate wearers, as of Wrath anyway. Engineering on the other hand is a profession that anyone can pick up and make use of, regardless of your class or your role. Engineering is the middle of the road, jack-of-all-trades, PvE or PvP profession.

These goggles are much the same. You can pick up these goggles and go dps and instance or fight in a BG, and I'm sure nobody's going to be laughing at you behind their monitor for your performance with said helm. And while lacking resilience, these kick the crap out of the savage saronite helm for their sheer utility in PvP.

So if you think about it, the stats make sense. No, theyre not as good as the titansteel in dps, but you're going to get to 80 faster, you're not going to suck dpsing with it at 80, and you're going to live a lot longer in PvP with this than the titansteel.

And yes, I'm sure Blizz will implement an upgraded version from Arthas or some other endgame jerk later on, probably requiring these as a reagent.

Purely from a leveling perspective, these goggles are great as a Ret Paladin.
You will not have to worry about any head slot items for 8 levels, and these goggles will last at least while you are working through your first heroics or are starting raiding.
If, like me, you have a main and got your alt with high engineering, craft these as early as possible and benefit from it while leveling!

Please excuse my ignorance, only been playing for about 3 weeks, so still learning.
I understand the BoE and BoP elements of the gear, but these are crafted and BoP so I take it that only the crafter can wear them ? and need the Eng of 400 to wear them ?

If its a stupid question, sorry, ill go hide under my rock again.

That is correct. BoP on this item means that only the crafter can wear it. And be Eng 400 (it ends up being really 440, because you can't make them until then.)

For the purpose of leveling, I think I'd take the tank ones over the DPS ones. The DPS helm only has 2 more strength and 2.80ish% crit (which goes down with every ding) compared to the defenese and absolutly massive amount of expertise the tank helm has.

The crit is nice, but for leveling, I think the tank ones win.

Not that it matters a whole lot, the engineering goggles in Wrath are pretty lack luster all around.
