Mage goggles for the new content patch. When I went to the Grand Master Trainer on the PTR, this was the only set of goggles I saw. Perhaps they only let you view the goggle(s) for your class?

In that case, a Priest would see 2, a Warrior 2, and a Druid 3. I think.

Also, VERY YES on Meta-Socket.

The stats on these match Tier 6, definetly worth crafting. Enchanted with a Glyph of Power, and added a Swift Starfire Diamond and a Glowing Tanzanite, that would give:

28 Stamina
24 Intellect
109 Spell Damage
29 Spell Crit Rating
14 Spell Hit Rating

In addition of +5 Stealth Detection, 8% run speed increase and the always nice Longsight and minor invisibility detection gadgets added with it.

Compared to Spellstrike Hood.

Putting +9 spell damage in each slot on the spellstrike, +9 and +12 (meta gem) on the holo gogs, and ignoring socket bonuses...

Quite similar in most regards, the spell hit rating on the spellstrike is good, and the meta gem slot means boot enchants can have a bit extra stamina. However, if you have spellstrike already this is a waste, especially considering the 2 set bonus on it.

However, IF you already have 350 engineering (or close to it), the mats for this are relatively cheap, and it lets you use you leg slot for tier4 or 5 if you want a 2 set bonus there.

I prefer to use +9 spell damage in my sockets, being a warlock i don't put much emphasis on spell crit. Neither socket bonus is worth putting blue or yellow gems into.

Consider, for a mage, using a Mystical Skyfire Diamond (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=25893) and a Glowing Nightseye (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=24056)
(using a blue gem to help the meta requirement)

Using +9 red gems in Spellstrike, this would give the gogs the following bonuses:

+4 Stamina
+7 Intellect
+5 Spell Crit
-8 Spell Damage
-16 Spell Hit
5% on spellcast - next spell cast in half time

Assuming as an Engineer you are not a Tailor, the Spellstrike set bonus does not apply, IMO for a mage the gogs are superior (especially if you are already near or at your spell hit cap). They might even be better including the Spellstrike set bonus, because of the meta effect.

Edit: Plus, Spellstrike looks like crap, whereas goggles are awesome :)

Can anyone confirm if only engineering skill of 350 is required to make these?

Foreman's Enchanted Helmet (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=23838) are also 350 to use, but actually requires 375 to make.

...And you cant have someone else craft it for you, since they are both BoP.

So start levelling your engineering skills now :-)

According to the tooltip, these are NOT unique, so one can outfit a set for PvE (Mystical Skyfire, +9 dmg, for example); and a set for PvP (18 Sta, +5% stun resist, +12 Stam, for example).

Fairly important change, these now require a Primal Nether to craft. So unless you get very lucky in one of the higher level dungeons you won't be able to make it until you're level 70 and doing heroics.

With the socket bonus, you get more spell damage using a two-color gem than a solid red +dmg one. Runed Living Ruby is 9 damage, Potent Noble Topaz is 5 damage, 4 crit rating, and another 5 damage from the socket bonus, netting you one more damage in addition to the 4 crit rating (or hit rating or 6 stamina with different gems). The difference is even more (read: 2) if you use an epic heroic gem.

All helms with a meta socket aren't worth the effort if you're not using the 5% chance on cast to have next spell cast in 1/2 time. If you calculate how much spell damage you need to get the same DPS increase as this meta, you'll see it's worth a LOT (~50 spell damage for my DPS as a fire mage with over 1000 spell damage).
Also for those who hadn't noticed these are better than T5, although T5 does have problems beating spellfire due to socket requirement and spellstrike set bonus (yes I'm a tailor AND engineer :D), I might actually use those. But then again with the new yellow spell hit gems, which are very powerful for boss fights (and even if I socket all my gear and future gear with hit gems I'll still only be very close to the hit cap), it might require too much gem gimping to make the meta work.
And as you all can see with a 12 damage meta no item with a meta socket is too impressive, although if you're not a tailor I guess even with 12 damage this is still good for you. Though I'd seriously consider the 5% chance on spellcast for next spell to cast in 1/2 time if you're gonna use it.

This is actually "THE" highest raw spell damage cloth helm you can get in WOW so far, without considering +crit and +hit...
This even beats up every T6 helms in spell power alone.

I would mainly keep this pair of goggles for PvE use only, 22 stamina and 0 resilience is a little lacking for PvP. But at least its dang nice for PvE

Hm.. since there is no "req. level 70" on these, can they be used on a, for example, lvl 59 twink?

My question is: at which lvl can i obtain these? 50 (the level in which Enginering to 375 is allowed)?

All I can think of is the difficulty of obtaining the primal nether... but it do drop from the final boss in ramparts (non-heroic)? although the droprate is fairly low...

Just a fun thought, a T6-alike head on a lvl 50 mage.. pretty cool.

I believe the lowest lvl at which one could get a nether is lvl 55 (the min required for Ramparts, BF, and Shattered Halls).

Shattered Halls likely has the highest drop rate in non-heroic.

To max out the spell damage, don't forget these as alternatives:
Runed Crimson Spinel - 15 badges, crafted or Hard to Kill
Runed Ornate Ruby - 6,885 honor
- no socket bonus, I'd advise against it since you're only losing +1 spell damage by choosing another gem
Glowing Shadowsong Amethyst - 15 badges, crafted
Glowing Nightseye - found, crafted
Fluorescent Tanzanite - drops off the bosses in heroic BF
(impractical to farm for, only added because this was before the ready availability of epic gems)

Other meta-gems options :
Ember Skyfire Diamond - crafted, by Alchemist then JC
- Blood Garnet x 3
- Flame Spessarite x 3
- Azure Moonstone x 3

Also, to fit the requirements to get the Swift Starfire Diamond to work, I'd recommend trying to get Trial-Fire Trousers (Karazhan, Opera) and socket them with 3x Veiled Noble Topaz.

As to where the headpiece stands in comparison to other gear, you will only find comparable/better from Hex Lord Malacrass, Illidan or in Sunwell. This is at tier 5-6 level for shadow priests. Compare it to Hood of the Avatar and Hood of Absolution.

Changed in 2.4, requires now lvl62, instead of just 350 engi, to prevent it beeing used as a 59 twink item when Primal Nether stops beeing BoP. This is a very fine head indeed. Also useful for finding those clouds of mote we always want to extract from. 8oD

I made these at lvl 63 on Wildhammer realm.

The knothide leather was between 8g -10g per piece. So a total of around 55g.
The khorium power core required primal fire for 25g per 1 and 3 khorium bars that sold at AH for 6g per 1. So a total of around 43g.
One felsteel stabilizer required 6 fel iron bars at 2g per 1 and 4 eternium bars at 5g per 1 to smelt into 2 felsteels. So a total of around 128g.
Primal nether was 40g at AH.
Star of Elune was 30g per 1. So a total of 60g.

The overall cost to make the goggles were: 326g.

I equipped the meta socket with an Ember Skyfire Diamond (+14 Spell Damage & +2% Intellect). To make this I bought the mats and paid an alchemist 10g to transmute the mats into a Skyfire Diamond.

The mats:

Blood Garnet x3 @2g per 1 so a total of 6g
Flame Spessarite x3 @2.5g per 1 so a total of 7.5g
Azure Moonstone x3 @ 1.5g per 1 so a total of 4.5g
Primal Fire x2 @ 22g per 1 so a total of 44g
Primal Air x2 @ @ 28 per 1 so a total of 56g

Total cost of obtaining the mats for the Ember Skyfire Diamond was 118g. Including the 15g in tips from both the Alchy and JC it comes to a total of 133g. It took longer but sure beat the 220g that they were listed at on AH.

I also equipped the blue socket with a Radiant Talasite which was 15g at AH.

The total cost including gems was: 474g!

I have this on my 63 mage. I think its best helm for mages 60-69.
Majority of ingredients sell by vendors...
The overall cost to make the goggles were: 210-220g

Made these today for my mageling and they really are worth the mats especially now since there are not much people in Outlands (well, except for Death Knights) grinding for the mats. A couple of hours of flying around with my main character yielded all the materials needed.

The hardest part about the materials were the Star of Elunes since there were none (except some already cut into form) in the AH so I had to poke around some banking toons to get them. And the Nether is easy to get since literally everyone has the old Badges left that really have no use at all nowadays.

For the gemming part, the new WotLK green gems are quite cheap (a whopping 60g for the meta), I'm talking about 2-5g per gem or you could also use your old Badges to buy some, so you can easily get quite the boost from these goggles. Usable for at least 10 levels I'd say, maybe even more.

You are going to need to do a LOT of mining to get these. total count is:

12 Khorium Ore

32 Eternium Ore

48 Fel Iron Ore

and a whopping 120 Adamantite Ore.

FYI: If you are expecting the "See things slightly out of phase" to allow you to see invis'd mages or even warp stalkers. You will be disappointed.

It won't let you see anything but those arcane vortexes in netherstorm. Also when combined with a detect invisibility potion or rank 2 detect invisiblity from a warlock it makes finding invisbile stuff very slightly easier.

How to change from one specialisation to another

Go to Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris. To the north is a small hut. Inside is a Gnome called Narain Soothfancy. Have a look at the book on the little table in the right hand corner. Right click on it and you get to choose what kind of specialization you want. Hope this helps.

Because I'm dumb and thought that the "such as" part of "Allows the detection of objects that are slightly out of phase, such as the arcane vortexes of Netherstorm" included the ghost mobs in SMV, I deleted the quest headset after I made these goggles. If you routinely do Vhel'kur kills for Gorefiend's Armor, don't toss your Second Sight helm!

This was the best investment in my profession ever.. I havent seen anything yet that could upgrade a mage in any instance yet.. The whole zooming in thing only helps if you want to see a mob up close.. And it works just like the eye glass..Itd be cool if it was like The hunter ability eagle eye or whatever it is

Depending on what gems you equip, these goggles are the equivalent of any SSC/TK drop *including* Cowl of the Grand Engineer depending on your class.

If you're a crit-based class/build like a Destruction Warlock you can equip a Chaotic Skyfire Diamond and just have fun, it really adds up to some nice damage. For a crafted item available at 350 Engi (before it gets *really* expensive...) it is extremely good, particularly if you are hitcapped (as the majority of casters progressing through TK/SSC should be).

There are better headpieces in the game, but really not very many, and none that are easily and reliably obtainable.

Plus, it looks @#$%ing awesome.

Another way to get this at level 60, is to Turn in Unidentified Plant Parts until honored.

I ran Slave Pens Heroic for the nether and got the +5 Spell hit +6 stamina Vivid Chrysoprase Gem to boot.

I ran it on my druid to clear to the last boss then changed over to my lock and had another Warlock summon me to the end boss.

I did what damage I could to the boss and hellfired myself to death when he was at 5% so I would not get any exp.

It's not easy, but very doable at 60.

With some planning, you could even stack gems to get a meta gem Bonus.

Just made these after patch 2.4. With Primal Nether not BoP anymore, was able to acquire a Primal Nether from the AH. Made the goggles, so excited to wear them and they were red to me! I am >350 engineer.. Why red!

Well, then I noticed a level restriction... need to be lvl 62 to wear. Oh no biggie, one more level :D
