Being a rogue specific trinket, in this case, it pretains to all attacks that consume enegry. The decrease in armor is pretty drastic PvP for some class's (if it proc's). Currently the WoW formula uses a "Debuff" called:

Apply Aura: Proc Trigger Spell: Perceived Weakness (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/spell=37174)

The current proc rate is 3% non-varied. Ither way, its a comprable trinket. Enjoy and Good luck!

Is this a proc that gives a debuff on the mob or a buff on you, so that when it proc's and you change targets you will still have the 1000 armor penetrarion for the remaining length of the proc?

This is how Badge of the Swarmguard (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=21670) and Bonereaver's Edge (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=17076) used to work.

Armor Pen is a great stat. I neck in Black Temple dropped a neck that has -600 Armor Pentration and some Stamina.

Always on stuff that that is much better than a proc trinket that has some hidden cooldown.

This item will likely get adjusted, so do not d/e!

Okay, after seeing this trinket in action after the 2.1 patch I can only say, GET IT!

Now it procs as often as the Dragonspine Trophy if not more. I can really recommend this and is very much an alternative for the Tsunami trinket.

I didn't even use it prepatch, now it's standard together with Dragonspine.

It procs A LOT, get it. Also seems to have a hidden cooldown. My guess is 20 seconds or so, if someone has better info reply to my post!

I got this 2 days ago on our 2nd Void Reaver kill. The other rogue wasnt too fussed about it and was saving PPR for something else. I bid my minimum and got the item and have been testing it ever since.

The proc rate is huge. I believe there is a secret cooldown but not entirely sure what it is, I dont have proc watch installed but could be useful for testing such a trinket it being chance on special attack which is pretty much everything apart from auto attacks, I even had it proc on deadly throw in EotS last night!!

For its addition to DPS I am quite happy though I think I would swap it for Tsunami Talisman overall. I have found when soloing mobs with high armour this trinket can really come into its own. Grabbing a 5pt Armour reduction and proccing this trinket will at lvl 70 ignore 2020 (I think) armour on the mob and give an extra 1000 armour penetration and it works lovely. If your the only rogue in a VR kill and this drops its worth the minimum DKP bid just to have a play around with it imo.

Dropped for me on our first Void Reaver kill.
I'm very glad i got it. This buff holds around 40-60% of time.
1000 Armor penetration is very nice. Especially if your target is already affected by sunder armor and Fiery Fire. (around 15% DPS increase).

Got this trinket 2 weeks ago and have seen it proc on sap, gouge, kick basically any move that requires energy. A neat trick is in pvp is have this equipped, sap a target and with the 25% proc u have a decent chance to get a free armor debuff then equip ur pvp trinket. With serrated blades and premeditation think of the armor debuffing possibilities.

I've uploaded the screenshot of the testing I've just done.

I kept Slice and Dice up and used Blade Flurry once to kill an add.

14 minutes (ish) of combat with 42 procs works out at 3 procs per minute.

Are you entirely sure of your experience? If you are, this means that the trinket is active a dazzling 75% of the time. I've never done any extensive testing myself, but it doesn't seem to be activated quite this often. If it really does, it's truly comparable with the Tsunami Talisman from Leotheras the Blind. In fact, it's likely better.

This is secound best trinket in game. DST is still better, however after 2.2 nerfs it will be not THAT much better (internal cooldown + haste nerf). In terms of dps it is equal to Illidan trinket and little better than Tsunami.

If you have 2 of 4: Tsunami, Warp, Illidan trinket, DST then you are pretty much set until next expansion really.

Also this one is easiest to get really as you don't need to compete with dps warriors or other melee dps for it. Drop rate is pain (waited almost 2 months) but well other trinkets drop rate is low like hell also.

P.S. That is true for combat swords (and probably maces, fists, daggers).

i've always though special attacks are only your yellow attacks ( ss, backstab, evi, kick etc ) but today amazingly that thing proced from.... sap ! yes. imagine me when after sap i got ..woot. percieved weakness :D

Got this last night. The Rogue DPS Spreadsheet shows it as a minor (+ .36 raid buffed; a 1.8 unbuffed decline) improvement of Romulo's Poison Vial. Would be interested to hear if others thought it was a major upgrade. Took it into Kara after VR and it procced constantly...

Edit: the DPS spreadsheet does show this as an upgrade over Romulo's PV but the Rogue Gear spreadsheet shows the WSC as an upgrade over the Bloodlust brooch. Comments?

Did i get it right? Your special attacks (any move that consumes energy) can give ALL of your attacks, whites and styles, 1000 armor penetration? Because in the german localisation its a bit odd and sounds like your STYLES will get 1000 armor pen..

Very nice trinket, and considering that all the DPS warriors, ret pallies, and enhancement shamans are going too be going after the tsunami talisman, and only us rogues can go for the coil, for the sake of guild progression, and your own personal progression, my advise is too go for this trinket.

Compaired too Tsunami, this has an additional 11 hit rating, the buff last 5 seconds longer as well, which if timed correctly, you can pop your Adrenaline rush, and bladeflurry, and have this armour penetration buff stacked the entire nuke, Ofcoarse however, a 4-5 point S&D should be poped just before you begin to nuke if your using a trinket like bloodlust brooch too improve your actual damage, not just your rate of sinister strikes, to maximise dps, if your using equip only trinkets this becomes pretty much irrelevant.

On the whole you can save yourself alot of DKP, seeing as this is rogue only and Void Reaver is probarbly the easiest boss out of the two tier 5 instances, and leo being considerably harder, therefore making this somewhat easier too obtain, seeing as voidreaver has too die whether you want too kill him or not for kael (untill patch 2.4 :( )

Tsunami may give you a slight bonus in DPS im not going too argue that, but, they are close and comparitable, however due too the demand for this compaired too Tsunami my advise would be too let it go, get Tsunami if its going cheap, but not worth burning your DKP over.

Another point is that, the lack of plus hit items in the SSC TK instances will mean getting alot of plus hit gems trinkets, coil contributes more hit, and my current crit is pretty low (25% going to hyjal soon) also Tsunami relies on crits too proc. Not really an issue swing so fast we crit so often but its just another consideration.

Just like armor penetration that becomes more valuable as you get more of it, this trinket becomes more valuable as well when you begin to stack up the armor penetration later in end-game content.

I got this trinket from Void Reaver today.. It really sucks compared to Kiss of the Spider or Abacus of Violent Odds. In a 2 minute fight, this trinket would proc 0-1 times - I even had 5 minutes fights without a single proc.
Waiting for the 2.1 changes ~~

The buff you get is called "Perceived Weakness" btw. and yes, it only procs off abilities, not melee hits.

It is a good trinket cuz as i assume most of the rogues here have fast wepons, rogues with slow wepons dont work so well, cuz rogues r supposed to strike fast and do as many fast hits as possible before the opponent notices it.

Ye ist true that it only is activated by spesial attacks well orgues have plenty of them and with a 15sec duration and rogues speed kill. this trinket would benefit pvp, pve, and raid.

I think a lot of people are failing to notice that the only other trinkets like this are the poison vial from Kara, and the tsunami tailsman. The insanely low proc which I believe is around 1-2% on the poison vial happens to be useless, I mean even if it procs its resisted, leaving you with 31 hit. The TT gives you 10 hit with some crit and a nice chance on crit for extra ap, but sadly this isn't only desired by rogues.

The Warp Spring being rogue only gives those of us who have yet to actually see a PV a chance to up our hit, which with the 2.3 patch and change to weapon skill, we need more than ever. I've been using a 11/27/23 build for raiding since a few days before the patch, and the change in dps from my cookie cutter combat swords build is quite nice with the passive armor penetration thats built into serrated blades. I see no reason why to complain about suplemental Armor Ignore which will grant you more damage than the Poison Vial Proc.

A lot of you are assuming it's off all attacks, as that other dude said, read the trinket, it's only specials, now if it's only specials it's gonna be a lot higher, at least it better be higher than blade twisting was, because that sucked and never went off.

As for shiv, with combat potency and say instant poison it's a great combo point builder if your slice and dice is about to run out, or you wanna get a quick rupture up, I use it quite a bit, just spamming sinister strike isn't always the best choice, remember, yea, spamming one button is what rogues do, but it's what we do with those combo points that makes us efficient, and yet difficult to play, you'll never get anywhere pressing two buttons.

Well it seems most of your posts were made pre-patch cuz you dont know what your talking about if you think this proc rate sucks. I have to say it procs at about every mob and on boss fights it procs quite a few times depending on how long the boss fight is. In a 10 minute boss thats a @#$%load of procs, and the proc time being 15 seconds thats not bad at all. Basically its always up

Also i think this trinket is meant to aid t5 armor since that set doesnt have that much hit rating.

Honestly i think it makes a great pve combo with my Dragonspine Trophy, at least until I get tsunami trinket, and thats where my dilema comes in. I just dont know what would be better, 300+ap for 10 secs or ignore 1000 armor for 15 secs. From what ive seen I think the warp spring coil will proc more often (though i dont really know the proc rate on the tsunami)but i dont know if ap is more beneficial than armor penetration. I guess i could do some tests to compare it with my bloodlust brooch since that gives you a nice ap buff but i dont know the name of any add ons that help you compare stuff easier

I wouldnt be so sure about that, this trinket imo is great for pvp and pve. What any good player should do, once again imo, is switch trinkets that you pop after each battle, this is a great passive trinket for pvp just for that reason, and in raids, that extra 1000 armor reduction can help down that boss just in time.

wow none of you play rogues the number 1 part of this trinket is hit, then some mostly useless ability, 1k armor isnt much on a well geared war and not too much on a raid boss either its just a small bonus to the hit

In PvP this trinket is near to useless. That is because of it only having a chance. If that chance would put it around 50% you might consider the trinket, but it would only really count vs. heavy tank classes - feral and tank.

In PvE 1000 +/- would not be bad. It can get a lot better if the effect would stack in any manner.

It only procs of special attacks, that is the worst drawback here. Most rogues in PvE are dagger rogues or combat - that means at least 60/40 action points are needed to activate the trinket. You won't see anyone spam Shiv, as shiv is a waste in damage as long as it is not boosted by certain equipment boni and even than shiv remains inferior as a damage dealer - shiv is a means to apply poisons, no more and no less.

Again the usefulness depends on the frequency of the proc 20% chance on specials would be an OK rate, anything less will make it inferior to other trinkets.

Anyways this proc is not half as useful as let's say the Gruul Trinket with speed enhancement.

1.3 Offhand with a 30 Energy cost Shiv (I think it's 30) spamming it.

Shiv is a special attack people. 30 energy is 1/3 of a Rogues energy, even with 3% that thing would proc very often. Once or twice a big fight I'd say, on raids a lot more.

Lol less then 5% chance to proc what a peice of #$%^, oh and 1000 armor isnt that much in PVE or PVP. Not to mention the fact that it has no other stats, give me the same trinket w/ 15% chance to proc and some ap then it might be worthwhile. This trinket proves the fact that no one at blizz plays a rogue.

I currently own this trinket. Drops off void reaver in Tempest Keep: The Eye. This trinket is absolute garbage, i spent a huge 2DKP(minimum bid) on it just to test it out. as of now it procs like once every 5 mins or so. when 2.1 comes out the proc is getting adjusted to 25% which would seem good right? wrong, it has an internal timer that will not allow it to proc more than 1 time every 30s, and the +hit and only 1000 armor off isnt a big enough damage boost to suffice for anything. Keep your abacus of violent odds and shard this piece of crap.

the trinket is good if you are lacking +hit. The Tsunami talisman grants +AP on proc, but 1000 armor penetration is said to be about 9-11% dps increase, in a raid setting.

Tsunami talisman is good, but this one has great +hit, which you need if you're wearing the T5 gear, which has very very low +hit.

If the proc rate really is 25%, even with a 30-sec internal cool it's incredibly good. That means that about half the time you'll have 1000 armor penetration, which on ANY mob (unless it has less than 1000 armor) will be about a 6.5-7% damage increase.

Given, it may not be as good as the Gruul trinket for a combat rogue... but the damage increase on the Coil helps specials too, haste doesn't. So for a muti/sub rogue of some sort it'd probably be much better. Also, a non-combat rogue would probably have stats other than hit rating on most of their gear, so this could help fill it in a little bit.

1000 armor might not seem like much, but its still the same dps bonus in any scenero. Its certainly better than the Romeo trinket that does 2-300 dmg :P

I'm waiting for it to drop, will probably spend money on it to pair up with my Dragonspine for Mutilate build should spread some impressive dps. Though the Tsunami is pretty amazing too. I'd say this still being a top 5 if not top 3 trinket.

When I first saw this trinket on Shadowpanther I thought, 'wtf, who cares about losing 1000 armor?'. After passing on it to my fellow rogue I got to see what it was really worth in SSC. A lot! This is not a pvp trinket, so do not make the mistake of comparing trash mobs and bosses to it. Most bosses have little armor, just hp. For a combat dagger rogue this has equated to 150-300 damage extra for each backstab. (Malch). 6-13% extra damage is a good estimation by a previous poster.
Needless to say, I bid for it the next time it dropped - without a shred of buyers remorse :) .

Just got this today on Twisting Nether and tried it out. It procs a lot so it has definitely been buffed. and the +hit was amazing.

got it last night along with my tier 5 shoulders (woot)

also got it for no dkp as i wasn't sure i wanted it and neither was the other rogue.

first impressions are it's nice and the hit rating on it makes up for the lack of hit rating on tier 5 armour, it procs quite a bit but im still debating whether it's better than my abacus of violent ods or whether to still go for the dragonspine trophy

Get the DST and toss the Abacus. If you can get to the hit cap of 308 with combat spec, WSC and DST trink are the best to grab. Course, the haste nerf in patch 2.2 is gonna hurt ya a bit but not enough to pass. Those are the best trinks in the game until Black Temple.

i got both the warp spring coil and the tsunami talisman in one raid session. must say the coil procs a lot and is well worth rolling/spending dkp on.

I just got this item today and i must say im surprised at how much better it is than i thought. the proc rate is way over what i expected even with backstab. the extra damage you get from this amount of armor penetration is much more than i expected. over all i believe this trinket is at the very least an upgrade from any blue trinket ive had my hands on so far.
i was at first skeptical of this trinket, being unfamiliar with armor penetration but now i see why so much endgame content gear has ignore armor. so dont pass up this trinket if you need an upgrade its definitely worth the dkp

This finally dropped for my guild after months of kills and I spent a very large chunk of my DKP on getting it (on a side note I also got my T5 shoulders at the same time!), I raid with Combat swords and I'm looking forward to trying this out tonight on Magtheridon and Morogrim ^_^

EDIT: The proc rate on this trinket is insane, It bumped my DPS up nicely for both of tonights bosses, My advice would be if you can get this...do!

and to answer some questions:

YES this stacks with executioner, all Armor penetration abilities stack,

The proc rate is very good (not sure quite what % though)

This can trigger on sap and is quite usefull in pvp, (especially if your going at a clothie)

remember that typically Raid bosses have around 6-7.5k armor, after the normal debuffs have been applied (sunder, faerie fire, etc) they are usually left with around 3k armor, Using executioner and this trinket? You can take that down to nearly 1k, and again I say... If you can get this... Do!

It's the 3rd best trinket in the game for rogues, behind only the Ashtongue exalted one and Dragonspine trophy (which is the best). The proc is up very often. Anyone saying this trinket is bad is insane

I got a surprisingly high roll for my normals and won this tonight. Not only was I amazed that I managed something higher than a 15 from my unlucky dice, but also the proc rate on this. It seems to be close to 25%, and any internal CD seems to just be the duration of the buff you get. And to those that think this is crap.. It applies to every hit that you make for the next 15 seconds, which is an additional 7%ish damage for that time.. Romulo's Poison Vial sucks majorly because it's that 222-332 damage every now and then. If you pair the trinket with executioner, you've got a wicked combo on not just raid bosses, but a little bit in pvp. Not saying it's the best for pvp, but.. You get my drift.
