No, you lose no rep for skinning these mobs. I killed many lesser nether drakes in Blade's edge after getting neutral rep, and my reputation didn't suffer at all.

Atm i can not attack "lesser nether drakes" even when my party members are hitting them and killing them ? how am i going to farm teh scales for my Leatherworking prof ?

You will not lose reputation with the Netherwing faction for killing the nether dragons when you check the box "At War." I'm at Neutral with them and just tried it out; my faction level remains the same.

If you need/want to farm these scales as a skinner, then the ones in Blade's Edge Mountains are the better ones, compared to the ones in Netherstorm.

They have same drop rate, but the Blade's Edge ones are 4-5 levels lower and there are more of them. You can hardly run out of mobs solo in Blade's Edge, where as in Netherstorm you can clear them all in no time and then have to wait 15 minutes or so.

I think that Netherstorm has a much better drop rate and more dragons, i gogt 32 scales in an hour there not sure about Blade's but from leveling i never really got any from there.

In my opinion was it easier to get the scales in Netherstorm, the droprate is way better there in Blade's edge mountains

juat goo to war with the netherwing it WONT effect your rep with them and i found that its best if you go by tosley station in blades edge mountains to farm them

i am exalted with netherwing..so far, flagging the 'at war' box keeps me green with the netherwing--maxnar the ashmaw is the only one I have been able to kill--tons of mobs to deal with before him though. pain in the buttocks. if anyone who is exalted and has found somewhere to kill things that you can skin the dragonscales from, please let me know.

I farmed the Nether Drakes & Nether Dragons in the Celestial Ridge area (roughly 73, 40) of Netherstorm for a couple hours to get the nether dragonscales. In order to help with the boredom, I started tracking mobs vs. what they skin to, and came up with the following. (I lumped the dragons in with the drakes, as there just weren't enough to gather stats specifically for them.)

101 total kills (11 Nether Dragons & 90 Nether Drakes)
33.7% skinned to knothide leather scraps (86 total scraps)
23.8% skinned to knothide leather
42.6% skinned to nether dragonscale

Not horrible, I suppose. But I fail to see why Blizzard can't let some of these "specialty" leather items be a 100%. I can get knothide leather & scraps from just about every mob that I can skin in the Outlands. If they just want you to sink time into the game, look no further than the Primal <insert primal name> requirements for almost every recipe that uses these nether dragonscales.

Oh, well. Off to start farming my primals. guh

I just farmed thes for nethers in Blade Mountains, In 2 hours I farmed 111 of these babies, WOOT!!! I dont know if it was luck but was very lucrative for me today :D

farmed the scales in BEM.. got 20 nether dragonscales in about 70 kills as a rogue. took me about an hour.

Here's my little tidbits of information regarding these items.

After spending a couple hours farming both in Blade's Edge and in Netherstorm, I killed 167 dragons between the two areas.

In 167 kills, I got 42 Nether Dragonscales, 60 Knothide Leather and 162 Knothide Leather Scraps. By my calculations, that is a 25% droprate on the Dragonscales. Pretty close to the listed 30% and not too bad a grind. I also received four BoE greens and several gray quality vendor trash (not to mention the claw/fangs that drop from every dragon and sell for a little of a gold per stack). However, it's sad that so many of these are needed to level Leatherworking in the AWFUL 350-365 grind unless you are lucky with tons of people supplying mats for Riding Crops or Restist set blues, which just isn't likely.

Anyways, the grind isn't too bad if you have need for leather as well.

On the Arathor EU server I've only seen a few of these scales on the AH. About 35g each. Couldn't bother checking the AH every couple of hours so I just decided to grind all the Nethers myself for the Ebon set as well as the Netherdrake Gloves.
However, it's much easier to just grind them off the mobs. The skinrate isn't as bad either. 25%-30% is pretty much correct.
At one time I had about 6 of the scales in a row.

To make things a lot easier: Be neutral to the Netherwing. Put them at war when killing them. In general mobs don't add when you pull one. However, there are several larger dragons roaming around that actually do care about you attacking his kind.

Being Neutral helps in a way because none of the mobs will just jump on you while you're eating/drinking. And you can go afk for as long as you wish without being killed.

As a level 80 farming mats for leatherworking bags I found that the Lesser Nether Drakes were a decent choice for farming these. They are plentiful on the Singing Ridge in southern Blade's Edge Mountains and I required Wind Scales from the nearby serpents as well. As a result I simply flew from one end to the other of the southern ridge several times and soon had the amount I needed.
As a note the dragons that roam the area are normal now (if they were formerly elite) and are also skinable making them a nice addition to any pull you perform.

Confirmed that you can kill the Netherwing without damaging your rep as of March 31, 2007. The smaller Drakes have a 20%ish rate, the larger Dragons have arouund 30%.

You can still check the "At War" box in the reputations page. Shouldn't lower your reputatin to kill them.

Also, this seem to be ~20% drop from the ones in Netherstorm

The best place i have found so far is 60.75 in Blade's Edge Mountains. I have just skinned x24 Scales in 30 mins so good Drop-rate imho .... GL/HF :D

Celestial Ridge - Netherstorm

Loads of nether drakes (Dragons too) About 20 pr. 30 minute. On my server (Hakkar) they go for a good 100g a stack, when I had em on my farm list they went for 150-200g, so i'm glad I noticed this before most others did. Was usually only selling em on AH.

Few days of getting these, and you'll have enough money for most epic boe's / crafts. :) And if you wear mail they go into alot of the epics. :P

I farmed 2 stacks (40) of these babies killing Lesser Nether Drakes in Blade's Edge Mountains just to the east of Toshley's Station (sp?). The droprate posted on here is wrong. I killed over 100 and ended up with a 20% droprate. There's also a dragon NPC Dreadwing, and I got the same droprate from him as the normal netherdrakes.

Take the quest "Which came first.." from Toshley's station so you can open the eggs here. Don't use the quest item to change them, you can only skin the whelps...which also have around 20% scales!

Having skinned several hundred Lesser Nether Drakes, I can say with certainty that the drop rate is between 19% and 21%. Same droprate for Dreadwing.

The droprates for anything Skinned on Thottbot are wrong.
Most people dont skin, and now Skinned things (leather, hides, scales etc) count as "Drops", but far from all kills are skinned, hence the droprate is alot higher than stated on thottbot.

At Blade's Edge, from Lesser Netherwind Drakes, I got 26 scales after 45min farming, 24% drop. Pretty good imho.

Some quick comments: Killing Lesser Nether Drakes in Blades Edge does not lower your reputation with Netherwing. I tried it myself. The droprate does appear to be generally quite good from the Lesser Nether Drakes, 20% droprate is in fact rather pessimistic in my experience. A damn sight better than spending hours farming Clefthoof Leather, if it's the cash you're after.

Currently Nether Dragonscales are selling for 12g apiece on the Neptulon (European) server.

I was also fortunate enough to get the pattern for Netherdrake Gloves (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=29733/pattern-netherdrake-gloves) from one of the Lesser Nether Drakes at that location after spending very little time killing them.

All in all, it's a prosperous farm for skinners.

I cannot seem to attack the lesser netherdrakes in Blades Edge Mountains. Is there a trick I dont know ? They are yellow to me and it says they are an invalid target

If you're trying to farm Nether Dragonscales, i recommend you going to Celstial Ridge in Netherstorm. The drop rate there is pretty good , got about 3 in 5 kills

was hitting 4/5 (drop to kill) at celestial ridge with combat swords rogue, noone else was here on pvp server. Also found the pattern.

Its a must-do for skinners who want money!

I've Just been skinning on Celestial Ridge, Netherstorm, both dragons and drakes, and after 25 skinned kills, no drop.
I had farmed those scales there a long time ago, and I remember that there was a really good drop rate...

Now I juz dont know what happened.

Nether Drakes and three nether Dragons for about thirty-five minutes this evening got me ten Nether Dragonscales (nine of them skinned) for 22 kills, which is pretty good. Saturday night luck? The Drakes (68 & 69) and Dragons (70) are easier than they look, too.
