I just got this last night in an Arcatraz run. I have to say, I Love It.

I am a frost mage with a little over 500 +dmg, and a little over 200 +crit rating. With shatter, this thing seems like it's going off all the time. I'm putting it at about a 15-20% proc rate (when you crit that is)

Generally a good trinket, but where it really shines is in bossfights. I have a deep fire build, with decent crit gear I achieve 34% critrate with my fire spells, throw in a Moonkin, and you'll land a hefty 39%. While I don't think it procs when it's already up (doesn't renew or stack it seems), this huge amount of crit ensures that you'll be pumping out insane damage on that boss. Which is why you're there :)

Appears to be, as posted above, a 35% proc rate. It cannot refresh or stack, and it appears to have an approximately 30 second cooldown between procs.

In other words, if you proc it, no matter how much you crit in the next 30 seconds, you won't proc it again.

Since someone modded down my comment for no reason I will say it again -- this trinket does not proc off of VE heals. For a shadow priest this will only proc on mind blast and SW:D.

yeah the nerf was pretty huge on this.. still good ... but the duration is now 15 seconds instead of 10 to compensatve for the 15% lower proc rate..

Just some information :

30% spell crit rate = 6% chance to procc on a normal specc-cast. (17casts per procc)
20% spell crit rate = 4% chance to procc on a normal specc-cast. (25casts per procc)
10% spell crit rate = 2% chance to procc on a normal specc-cast. (50casts per procc)

Mages :
Frostbolt : 2.5sec cast = 24 casts per minute
Scorch : 1.5sec cast = 40casts per minute
Fireball : 3sec cast = 20casts per minute

Warlocks :
Searing Pain : 1.5sec cast = 40casts per minute.
Shadowbolt : 2.5sec cast = 24casts per minute.
Incinerate : 2.5sec cast = 24casts per minute.

Shamans :
Lightning Bolt : 2sec cast = 30casts per minute

Druids :
Wrath : 1.5sec cast = 40casts per minute

Fantastic Holy Paladin trinket.

Combined with Xi'ri's Gift, that's 64 spell crit rating on trinket slots alone which adds up to slightly under 3% spell crit.

I got this item over the weekend, and it's amazingly good.

One observation: No one here (unless I missed it) has mentioned how it actually lasts for 15secs, rather than the listed 10secs. That discrepancy makes a huge difference in the overall viability of the item.

Theoretically, if you could get this thing to proc, EVERY TIME perfectly on its 45 sec internal cooldown with it lasting 15 seconds - it would be equal to adding approx 80+dmg. However getting it to proc is the tricky part on a 20% proc (on crit).

If you conservatively estimate approx 90 seconds, (say you were unlucky and didn't get a crit until the very end of where statistics say you would be guaranteed one), its still = to approx 40+dmg. So based on your luck this thing is netting you anywhere between 40+dmg and 80+dmg over the course of a sustained fight.

Estimations given on an approx 30% crit rate - either way, if you do the math with a 15 sec duration and a 45 sec internal cooldown, this trinket is miles ahead of others. (For comparison most 2 min/90 sec CD trinks giving you 150+ dmg for 15 seconds come out to roughly 31.25+dmg sustained.)

And these estimations are basically just converting procs, to roughly what spell dmg it would be equivilent to if it were just plain ol' spell damage. Of course for things like PvP, where you need short bursts of a lot of damage, activated trinkets are better, but this was put here for those interested in using it for PvE purposes. (Karazhan, extended boss fights that last 5 mins or more, etc)

I just had the trinket double proc on me. I have no idea how it happened with the internal cooldown, but they clearly stacked, because my next fireball hit for 3.2k.

Will do further testing to attempt to replicate the double proc.

Rumor is the effect has been corrected to a 10 second proc. Previously it was bugged to last 15 seconds, contrary to the tooltip, which stated 10 seconds.

Here is how the cast sequence looks for my moonkin druid.
Moonfire (Instant) 35ish% critchance
1.5 second wait
Insect Swarm (Instant) No Crits
1.5 second wait
Starfire (3.5sec with no talents, 3sec for me, 2.5sec if last spell crit.) 29ish% critchance
Starfire
Wrath (2.0sec, 1.5 for me) 29ish% critchance
Check mana (Drink pot, Use Demonic Rune, or Innerv if neccesary)
Loop

That's 12 seconds, 5 crittable spells at 30ish% chance each. Should be that I get about 3 crits every two rounds of this, and with the estimated 30% chance on each crit to proc my nexus horn (Thottbot said so.) That comes out to what?... one proc every 10 rounds or so? 10x12=120seconds or two minutes. Yeah. That feels about like how it's been happening. So then during that two minutes I get 10 seconds of 225 spell damage. Or I could get a glowing crystal insignia and pop it twice in that time for 40 seconds total of 104 spell damage. That's the same as having 10 seconds of 436 spell damage. So yeah...This is not all that good a proc.

I guess for a paladin, if you're spamming FoL every 1,5 seconds with 20% crit chance on FoL, you're going to see 1 crit every 7,5 seconds. With a proc chance of 20%, it'll proc 1x every 5 crits, or 1x every 37,5 seconds.

10,0 seconds : 6x FoL * 1225 healing
27,5 seconds : 19x FoL * 1000 healing
== ~1054 healing

Assuming you continue spamming FoL, it's going to come down to ~54 bonus healing. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. And with all "proc" trinkets, you could get 3 procs in a row which overwrite each other, followed by 0 procs for 60 seconds...

I use this on my holy preist. it procs very often for me with only 15% crit. i love it. however a warlock accused me of ninja ing it when we both clicked need..
it was way better than the crappy one i had tho. so i dont mind.
i wouldnt of accused the warlock if he happend to win the roll tho, thats the whole point of rolling isnt it?
i think this is a very good trinket for getting ready for kara healing

I had a ret paladin in my group take this away from the mage. When I told him there's much better Attack Power trinkets for a paladin he goes "shockadin youtube & learn".

Holy shock is a Holy Talent.

I don't care how much spell power a ret paladin needs. You should never roll on an item that's clearly for a caster. There are so many better Attack Power, Agility, Hit, Crit whatever for a melee caster.

I would say that 35% procrate is a bit high / good luck. It is, however, a minimum 20% proc rate which is the rate I was getting after watching 100 crits.

The icon says it boosts damage and healing but I've actually not noticed heals getting stronger with it up. I didn't think to pop a renew while it was up to see if it boosted it at all, will do that and then edit this post.

the best part about this is not that the proc rate is so good, not that the damage is so high, not that the crit is absolutely amazing...., but that you can still trigger your other trinket during the buff and up your damage by +400 or more depending what you have in the other slot.

I think this is an awesome trinket, though I have not used it yet.

As a crit mage, I think I would prefer Vengeance of the Illidari to go with this even still after all this time. Scryer's bloodgem has 30+ more spell dmg, but it is not a crit piece.

For a elemental shaman like myself with high critrate, currently 33% on bolts, this trinket is just pure love. Since lightningbolt scales very good with +damage this would add about 200 damage to each bolt and in 10sec I can cast 5 bolts, that's 1k extra damage.

Some mroe maths, if the procrate on this is 35% and my critrate is 33% it would mean it would proc on about every 8th or 9th bolt. Casting 5 bolts in 10sec, procing on every 9th bolt, the proc would be up on 50% on my bolts, just insane.

I just got this for my holy pally and yes this baby hooks it up for us healadins. I have about 25% spell crit and was able to get a proc around every min or so. I broke my flash of light and holy light records after this proccing and using Xiri's Gift at the same time. Woot for 2200 for a flash of light heal!

Btw, this procs off any spell critical including heals.

Ok so I have a crit-based build on my shadow priest. I saw this and went crazy. Since I have around a 40% chance to crit, I thought it would up my dps substantially; after a Mind Blast/SW:D cycle that it proc'ed, I'd reapply dots and start mind flaying with an extra +225 or so +dmg. So I ran Arcatraz about 20 times or so to get it.

After experimenting with it, I'd say it procs around 15-20%--making it pretty much useless for a shadow priest except in longer boss fights. At most, a minor upgrade over Vengeance of the Illidari.

For any pre-raid shadow priest with a similar build, I'd recommend:

Very good trinket, procs on healing and damage, and is fairly common. From my experience there is a hidden cooldown on the proc; but it doesn't seem to be to long.

Just picked this up for my elemental shaman. I run around 32% spell crit with talents and Totem of Wrath. This combined with Vengeance of the Illidari trinket I've put down 3000+ lightning bolt crits.

Some info about the trinket's proc:
- it DOES affect +healing as well as +damage
- it has not yet proc'd while I already had the buff
- from the last comment, i would say its save to guess that there is a hidden cooldown on the proc.
- proc is confirmed at around 35%

A fun little story - popped EM and Illidari trinket and hit with LB for 2.3k, the resulting crit proc'd shiffars. The next LB I shot crit for 3100, and lightning overload proc'd and hit for ~2900 (think some was resisted). In short I died quickly.

I would very much want this for my critt-based pala healer, would be very nice
both the passive 32 critt rating and the chanse-on-crit. Too bad Arcrataz sucks
heavy, and that the last boss has very hard to drop this... not to mention all crazy mages & locks that go heywire - when I say i need it too, i mean c'mon i have just as much use for it. dont be so selfish =(

Can someone give me a screen shot of this buff actually buffing healing please? because it doesnt help to just post "oh yeh it procs healing" like some idiot could just do to missinform.
Would suck if it only buffed spelldamage and it would go to waste to healers.

As long as your primary AoE spell isn't blizzard (which is way to slow damage for lvl 70 dungeons) This trinket procs almost everytime you go to AoE a group of mobs down. Usually procs the first AoE blast you do and I even find this procs a whole bunch with frost nova. Best thing about this trinket is you can have a damage/15sec trinket on and pop it as soon as the Horn procs and it's quite easy to push 1000+ damage (considering your a mage who can complete arcatraz you should have close to enough gear) arcane power + pom + pyro and you'll technially be pushing out 1300+ spell damage. Happy 7k Pyro crits in your 5mans peeps. No consumables needed.

Just picked this up. +818 fire damage, 34.41% chance to crit with fire spells, this thing pops all the damned time. Combined with a Mystical Skyfire Diamond and the 2-piece Spellstrike bonus coming up in about a week, I don't think I'll ever go through a single fight again without SOMETHING proccing!

This item made me think. I started looking at my talent tree, my critrating, this item and spellstrike infusion. I also have full spellstrike. (I'm a mage, 375 tailoring, lvl 70)
I use scorch alot, I have it talented that it increases fire dmg done by 3% with each stack (15% max). I also saw Incineration: +4% spellcrit with scorch. Combine this with Critical mass, Fire power, Combustion, Pyromaniac, Impact (!), ignite (!) and ofcourse Burning soul.
You'll have a scorch that would crit about 40% of the time. This means 40% chance scorch crit every 1.5 sec. Together with this horn you'll have a chance of improving spell dmg by up to 225. Together with spellstrike infusion you'll have another chance of getting +92 spell dmg. To finish with a nice trinket, say Icon of the Silver Crescent (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=29370/icon-of-the-silver-crescent) and you could also pop a Combustion. Voila: sick dmg every 1.5 sec, pwning arses in pvp cause of low casting time so you can move around alot and still dps like crazy.

This is just a theory I thought up while being dps-horny. I think I'll definately try it out when I have the items and some money (5K for epic mount ftl:P).

Feel free to try it out, make a comment to improve this theory and let me now if I'm right about some damn nice dps :D

In my experience Quagmirran's Eye procs quite often, and I get 2 fireballs off. Nexus-Horn procs rarely, but on the other hand it's a huge buff when it does.

Yes this trinket has a hidden cooldown, just like the melee version of it. It can only proc once every 45 or 60 seconds.

it has a 30 sec cooldown im 99% sure, im arcane/fire mage and this does proc twice in 60 sec, so my guess is its 30 or 45 sec, but ive never seen it proc more than twice in 1 min

This calculation is made for a spell with 2,5 sec spellcast and 33% crit.
You'll crit on every 3rd spell, and each crit has 20% chance to trigger the bonus, so on average you'll see the trigger on every 15th spell if there is no hidden cooldown. that's 15x2,5=37.5sec
Hidden cooldown is 1x3=30sec
Bonus lasts 10sec.
So average circle takes around 30+10+37.5=77.5 sec
During this period, bonus is active 10:77.5=12,9% of time
That gives 0.129x225= 29 spell dmg

Xi'ri's Gift gives 4dmg less,but 2 crit more and you can choose when to fire it up..

Hehe, this can proc off of any crit. I'm a warlock, and used a health potion, critted myself with the potion, and it procced. Works pretty well.

a must be for every elemental shamans who has gone to higher crit. With PvE based talents, and buffs. i have %43-46 crit chance. This means about 1 crit on every two spells. So "this Horn
is so Horny" is what i can say !

im an arc/fire PvE spec mage (call me 3 minute but whatever) im specced more in fire, and i always use fire spells on bosses, and sometimes Arcane Missle spam on trash, my arcane missles crit ALOT and im wondering if it will affect EACH single crit... if so, that would be so awesome paired with a clearcast and stuff,
Yes, healers can have it too, but there are way better, give it to that itching fire mage in that corner or that destruction firelock drooling over it...
you will get rid of it healers, but all the mages in my guild have this in their bank, as do all the Dest locks... its awesome IMO
i have yet to go into Arcatraz, im heading there tommorow and hope that it drops

Im not sure with some of u guys but im a disc/holy priest and i have a critt with holy spells in about 20% and when i mass heal in any raid/bg i really would like to have a procc trinket so i dont need to have any delay on my spells and this trinket would really do it for me but i havent got any chanse on it yet,
But since healing do critt more often then dmg spells do to resilience and on, wouldnt it be fare a holy or disc priest to need on this?

My personal opinion: No. +healing is a cheaper stat than +dmg and healing, and a mage with 30+% crit will benefit far more from this trinket than a healer, who has much better trinket options. I've been wearing Shiffar's a long time on my mage, and I've passed on it on my holy priest(as I also did when I was shadow). If I were you, and wanted this trinket as a any kind of priest, I'd make my intention to roll clear before we started the instance.

Holy paladins with want this too as when they crit heal they get 60% of their mana back not to mention the possible increase in their heals. Great trinket for them as well as there are very few trinkets that give +spell crit. Other healers not so much I would agree.
