Note that the Paladin ability Holy Shield triggers a 10 second cooldown on this item as well... however you can use the trinket before Holy Shield and then use Holy Shield immediately afterward without any problem.

Dropped for me my 2nd run of SH. I love the fact that it increases block by 4.??%. As a tank you'll be hard pressed to find a tank trinket better than this one unless serious raiding is in your future. Get it, use it, you'll love it.

Small point but as I've not seen it mentioned, the heals from the trinket do cause threat. 60 threat, per heal, 90 on crits. Sadly its not effected by Righteous Fury but its still more AE threat gen which all adds up in the end.

I use this in combination with Dabiri's Enigma (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=30300#M0z) and I have a feeling I won't be dropping either for quite a while.

Pop both at the same time and provided you have a decent block % beforehand you'll basically take 120 damage off of each hit you take for the duration. This combo can be used as a ghetto heal if you're in a fight with a lot of non-elite melee trash since with a high shield block value you may take less damage than the figurine heals!

This trinket is essential to the protection Paladin making money off from the Demon Hunter Supplicant in front of the Black Temple. I actually specced Protection on off-Raid days just to farm money. At this rate, I should be able to buy my alt their epic mount soon.

This trinket basically removes the need of SoL in pally aoe grinding. Instead you can seal and judge wisdom and use max rank consecration and holy shield the whole fight and just pop this trinket when you get down to 5-10% hp and come out with full hp/mana ;)

Can someone tell me if that item is increasing the block chance or only if you use a shield of some sort? Kinda strange that Dabiri's Enigma says "block rating" on text while this one uses the expression "shield block rating". Is there any other possibilities that u can block without shield? If you try to use it while not having a shield equipped, it'll fail, giving the error "Must have a Shield equipped", but it won't trigger the cooldown.

As a Prot Pala I´d advise you to not let go of this trinket even when you drop it from your main equip.
If you change equip (on a Karazhan/Zul'Aman level) there´ll always come the time when you loose avoidance but gain everything else, though becoming crushable.
This trinket alone gives you 4% of avoidence and can be substituted in till you get enough avoidance from other parts.

Just to give you an idea of the power of this trinket, here is a video of a paladin soloing SM cath in one pull (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72c8YUNusEo). Watch for the part a few minutes in, he opens the door sprints in hits mograine and his health is dropping. His bubble is CD he doesn't want to use his lay on hands. He's below 500hp when he pops he trinket and with it he heals himself to full before its effect is gone. Now that being said obviously, in higher level content your not going to be pulling +50 mobs but, it just give you an idea of the power of this trinket.

Very useful to warrior tank too, for 2 things :
- reaching passive immunity to crushing blow (so that you don't need to activate shield block)
- awesome to solo boss, dungeons, grind pack of mob. I used it to kill Arlokk in Zul'Gurub. With more than 30 panthers on me, it gave me back more than 8k life on each use.

I'm actually surprised no one mentioned this, but if used while you are using SHIELD WALL, if you use this trinket, any attack blocked that would have dealt 480 damage or less will yield an actual HP gain (instead of just mitigating the damage you are taking).

This may be useful in tight, fast damage situations to give the healers a minute to catch up. I've even heard of people healing themselves up to full with the combo.

Ironically, this item is particularly effective against the very mob that drops it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this already, but the heals from this trinket have a chance to proc "on heal cast" effects.

I use https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=34677 along with other spell damage gear &, when AoE farming, this baby procs for aldor giving me 74 spell damage.

Just a little tip for any aldor prot palas :)

Another good place is the packs of blood elves over by Manaforge Ara in Netherstorm. Mount up and round up a couple dozen mobs, dismount and start spamming consecrate and holy shield. Once you get to 50%, pop your trinket.

A good instance is pulling the entire mana wrym room in Magisters Terrace. Pop it while you've got like 100 wyrms beating on you and you'll get thousands and thousands of points of healing back from the blocks. Not too mention making the protection warriors cry, they hate that wrym room.

The drop rate on this wonderful trinket is extremely low. I didn't get it to drop until my fifteenth or sixteenth attempt, but your patience will be rewarded. This trinket and the Adamantine Figurine both provided part of the defense and avoidance required for getting my protection pally to the uncrushable state.

I just wanted to make sure that this only drops on the boss and is not a quest item. People in-game are telling me this could be a quest item and all the information I find states it's a 12% chance drop from this boss.

I just finished my 40th (literally) run on regular and still no sign of the trinket. I'm beginning to wonder if it only drops in heroic mode. Everything I've ready has said it drops in both but with a little higher chance in heroic. The stats I have are 11% non and 14% heroic.

Got this the other night on my first SH run with my tank.
Anyways, my tank is a warrior... and I came to the conclusion that this plus Shield Block is a godsend to Warriors!

Use the trinket and then put up Shield Block and *EVERYTHING* that hits you heals you as well.

For any Prot Paladins that wanted this trinket at level 80, not sure how helpful this is but; you can easily solo Shattered Halls in under 30 minutes if you were interested.

My paladin has 25k hp, 21.6% dodge 18.26% parry 12.68% block and about 1100 block value. It's fairly easy, the mobs attacks get fully blocked and with Seal of Light/Judgement of Light you never run out of health, while Blessing of Sanctuary keeps your mana up.

This trinket is a beautiful thing for a Prot Warrior. Maybe not nearly as much as it is for a pally, but by GOD, man, I was so happy to finally get this the other day.

I'm a Warrior who loves his Crusader Enchant, so it saddened me to see the healing aspect mellow out once I hit 60 and lose a good deal of its usefulness. This makes up for the loss in convenient heals that our non-healing selves normally would not have.

Let's reassess what's going on here every time you block during this 20 second period:

1) You gain two rage per block.
2) You gain 120 health per block.
3) You deal damage equal to 30% of your block value per block (if you're packing Damage Shield which you should be)
4) You generate threat from blocking.
5) You generate threat from doing damage.
6) You generate threat from healing.
7) You've already got Revenge up and running from the first block on.
*8) You've got a free Heroic Strike (and possibly a 10 Rage bonus for it) depending on your glyph allocations.
*9) If you opted for any shield spikes, they're proccing per block as well.

In addition to that delicious block rating it provides (a little more and my total block chance will be more than my dodge and parry combined), it's probably the best healing enhancement a Warrior can get pre-WotLK; heck, I'm not even sure Lich has something (non-Enraged Regeneration) better than it for a tanking Warrior. The more monsters are beating on you, the faster that bar replenishes itself, making this both a new "Uh oh" button when combined with Shield Block and frightening thing to anything that was already wishing your Warrior would just die already.

A very simple macro you don't even need to lose sleep over:

Guarantees that one in three Shield Blocks is a nice heal. So, since the heals generate threat and you're packing Damage Shield by this time, it's a nice bonus to AoE aggro for Warriors, since... you know... AoE threat isn't our specialty. *caresses Thunder Clap and Shockwave as if he could lose them at any second*

Yeah, I recommend anyone who loves their shield getting this. It'll last you a good while, and I'm almost 100% confident that the other trinket you have at the level-appropriate time you acquire this is more easily replaceable than this one.

I registered on wowhead specifically to chime in on this thread. this trinket completely changed my style of playing. i can't speak for end game content (80+), but in all instances before, I'm able to solo with so much more ease. basically, i can go down to ~15% health, pop the trinket and watch my health skyrocket. It's particularily effective when surrounded by many, many mobs. Where 100 mobs would sometimes put me down in SM or BFD when CBing, this amulet lets me survive without breaking a sweat. I don't ever really use heals anymore in lower level instances. No need to with this amulet.

Just make sure you're facing the mobs if you want it to proc!

As a warrior, this trinket is a farming icon. I remember picking this up at level 70 and didn't use it for the longest time. Then one day I was running some low levels through Scarlet Monestary and popped this thing on. Low and behold as I got to about 1/4 health, I hit this and my Shield Block and completely healed myself; (I was pulling HUGE mobs of 20+ creatures).

Now, at level 80, it's even easier. I still use the trinket when I need it, and it has allowed me to farm even higher level old world instances.

Basically, you just spam Piercing Howl and Commanding Shout while running through the instance. You can gather EVERY mob. Some people don't understand when I say every mob. I mean every single monster in the entire instance, you can pull them whilst running to the end of the dungeon. Then you kill them all, and if you need a heal, you pop this trinket and Shield Block and fully heal yourself. Two minute cooldown is nice because if you haven't killed every mob by that time, you can pop it again.

*Note: You might want to bring a friend to loot all the bodies. I've had them disappear on me because I can't loot everything fast enough lol. Probably the single most useful trinket I've ever used in this game.

I run heroic SH a LOT with my Prot Pally. Finally saw this drop for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I've always gone 'No CC' in there anyway, this just gives a litle extra perk to having all them mobs piled up on me. Now the healer can have an even easier time (usually every other pull it's up) and soemtimes I even see some AOE coming from the healer.

I know many people dread heroic SH... but for me since I've hit 70 and tried Prot spec on my Pally, it has been the easiest and quickest 5-Badge Gain (the executioner has a badge if you make it in time) to be had. ~1hr total start to completion (the execution timer doesn't start til after boss 1 and we usually have 20-30 min left on it when the Executioner dies). Also, if you are still getting gear for your Prot Pally, some epic boots drop off of Bladefist on heroic, and the Gauntlets of the Righteous can also drop, normal or heroic.

I'd like this for solo grinding, might actually be slightly useful. The 1H with lifesteal from Botanica, SoL and JoL, 6 equal lvl mobs and this trinket, some nice spelldmg and a thorium spike (givf Adamantium spike!)

We'll see if it drops.

This is the single greatest trinket a paladin could ever have on this game. Think 55 monk on Guildwars. For 20 seconds ever 2 min you can tank nearly infinite mobs giving you time to aoe them down or just giving your healer a reprieve.

Due to this item I can farm the first 7 or 8 ud pulls on the way to live strath AT THE SAME TIME.

BTW that paladin does not have this trinket, that was a lvl 60 paladin before BC came out.

It's a super nice trinket. Just know a prot pally doesn't even need this trinket to do what's being done in those videos. I raised 5 toons to 70 before I rolled a PROT pally who's 69 now and I've already been doing the things in those videos since 67. With this trinket it'd be crazy.

I'm not saying this is SPECIFICALLY a prot paladin item, but it's pretty delicious for an AOE grinding spec, which involves getting a shield spike, pulling a ton of mobs, then throwing up Seal of Light and waiting for the mobs to kill themselves on the spike. You use this trinket and bam, suddenly you're getting healed for 120 every second practically.

If you can manage to get this trinket+one that increases block chance (I use Dabiri's Enigma (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=30300/dabiris-enigma)) then it can be pretty fun to use while solo grinding multiple mobs. Any protection warrior is gonna dodge/parry (almost) anything that's not being blocked in the duration of these trinkets, so it actually gives you a nice amount of HP even with 3-4 non-elites beating on you. :)

The above comments about the mechanics of crushing blows, and the value of block rating to warrior tanks, are completely wrong.

First, the theorycraft. A level 73 mob/ skull boss does indeed have a base 15% chance to crush you but this does 150% damage (not same as crit as stated above). At 490 defense crits should not come into it.

The evidence so far points to crush being a possible outcome on a combat table including crit, crush, hit, dodge, parry, miss. Block, together with parry, dodge and miss, do indeed push crush off the combat table, but hit gets pushed off before crush, so at values lower than 85% of total avoidance/mitigation, block does not affect chance to be crushed at all. When shield block is active, parry, dodge and miss appear to take precendence over block.

What does this mean? 25% total parry, dodge, block and miss is enough to prevent crushing blows for a warrior with shield block active. The need for 25% block is wrong (until someone comes up with a combat log to the contrary, and no one has). A warrior who spams shield block gets crushed in two situations:
1. Boss hitting more than twice during the cooldown of shield block. Common, esp with some bosses (eg. Prince in Kara).
2. Increased crush chance (eg. unbalancing strike in aq40, almost never applies).

We'll only deal with no 1. Shield block rating is utterly useless here, because 85% total dodge/parry/block/miss is not attainable, so all you do is push normal hits off the table. You still get 15% crushing. What is not immediately obvious is that parry, dodge and miss are actually good for avoiding crushings in situation 1, because by increasing the percentage of attacks you avoid, you increase the chance that your two shield block charges are enough to last you through the cooldown of shield block.

What does this mean for choosing items/gems as a warrior tank?
Priorites are, in order:
Def to 490
Stamina
AC
Dodge rating
Defense above 490
Parry (parry% is too expensive in terms of rating)
Block rating (almost irrelevant whie tanking progression content)

Block value (amount blocked by your shield) is nice to have for increasing shield slam threat gen if nothing else

The TLDR summary:
Shield block rating is not good for warrior tanks. Get defense to 490 then focus on stamina, AC and avoidance.

Is it affected by spell crit rating? Don't know how to find out. All I know that the crits happen quite frequently with me as Paladin Tank with spell crit of a around 8%, which is quite low.

Anybody got more details on this?

ok to those saying that block rating is useless for warrior you better get dodge or parry

ok i was one thinking like this but lastly my dodge reached more than 25% and parry 20% and block 20% and i realise that with my defense(546 at that moment) make me not get hit by (miss 12.76+dodge 25.40%+ parry20%)58% of time doing so not generating rage so aggro falled back a lot.

at that talked to a guys who is in bt whit is guild and he say me (omg you will never keep aggro in 25 man) and i decided to try and he was true so now i up my block rate gimping dodge and parry to dont get more than 50% total avoid of dmg

i feel really sorry that i dropped that item

This is the best trinket in the game for farming as a prot pally. While farming Demon Hunter Supplicants in Shadowmoon Valley (very fast hitting mobs) you can pull about 20 of them at a time and they hit so fast that you're pretty much invincible when you hit this trinket. It will even take you from 5-10 percent health to full in seconds. Not to mention the cooldown is only two minutes so you can use it on every pull, even use it twice on some pulls.

This is a must have for any prot pally who doesn't have another toon to farm gold with.

This is also good for a prot warrior. I mean even though they dont pvp but if you've seen how much it'll work if u use Dabiri's Enigma and this and shield block.. My shield block rate was over 100% and in a duel i was blocking this hunters snake attacks SO many times I could of been healed for over.... 4000 in about 10 seconds.

man didnt you see hobbs videos you can now easy do full instances pull on those instances everyone needs like sm sfk wc deadmines becuase as we prot pallies know redoubt is almost always ative with that many things attacking us so when that kicks in we block alot thats like a full heal without the mana or casting times in those castes becuase we block so many times in 20 sec. and they arent doing over 120 dmg

block rating is one important avoidance, because it helps you keep the aggro. So if you lack in block rating, you should use this trinket. Block rating should be your highest avoidance.

hmmm... thats a rough one - i respecced ret to prot at 70 - the tank always has dibs on tanking gear - this is why i like running instances with my guild - we don't screw one another over. were a ret in an instance - one i'd be happy just to be invited - and two i would not screw over players because I "might respec " one day - lame - better luck next time. There's no glory being a ninja!
