found it, the only one i've found so far that will take these, are the sporeggars in zangaramarsh, im friendly with them.

I get the same error with auctions, but the fish will sell to a General Goods vendor, just not the other types.

As all other trophy fish, this cannot be sold to any vendors. It has no other purpose than wearing it in the off hand and showing off. If you succeded in selling one you found a glitch in the software.

Off-hand fish used to be an odd drop rate, but given this is used in recipes I guess the rate is much higher..?

I just caught one in Zangermarsh near the Twin Spire Ruins with a total of 349 fishing skill,(which was 329 + 20 fishing rod). This was after 300-310 pulls.

It can be done, just low.

If you are considering creating Hot Buttered Trout out of these to vendor them, currently you lose money. Though typically, food made through cooking usually sells for more than the raw materials, it isn't so in this case. Unless you wanted the cooked food, do not bother.

It doesn't appear very "enormous" when held. Same size as all of the other fish. :(

Do these fish have a very low catch rate? I've been fishing the southern most lake in zangar for 3 days now and have yet to catch one. All I've caught is Zangorian Sporefish & Barbed Gill Trout.

You can actually have TWO (maybe even more) equipped in your off-hand. Noticed it today. Since they stack, you can right-click it, and it equips both. However, this makes no diffrence in the looks.

Pools of fish have a significantly higher chance of dropping this fish. I would estimate this chance to be about 1 in 20, as opposed to fishing in open waters at about 1 in 100.

Oh dear god...
I have fished one of those up, before I even knew it we're used to the Hot Buttered Trout.
But as I didnt know I had to use one for making the buttered trout, I threw it away.
I should've never have done that.

To clear up the chance on catching this fish I'd first like to call BS on the drop rate in Highland Mixed pools. I've fished in 20+ of them with max skill and +125 buff and still didn't see, ONE.

My research led to this site. http://www.elsanglin.com/fish/enormous_barbed_gill_trout.html where u will see that the pools of Zangarmarch have the best chance of dropping the fish. all and all you will be looking at upwards of 100 casts if ur lucky. Have fun fellow cooks.

I just caught this and a Huge Spotted Feltail on back to back casts from a steam pump flotsam in Zangarmarsh. Probably just extremely lucky on my part, but it is worth fishing in the Flotsam along with other pools while you're hunting.

Heres how you catch your fishing daily on the 3rd or 4th cast, starting with the painfully obvious. Skill up to 450, other people/threads covered this.
Firstly: DO YOUR FISHING DAILY quest everyday. The bag of fishing treasures drops 3 things that help you out, not to mention, 2 rare quality fishing poles
(Canna da Pesca d'Ossa) bone fishing pole
(Canna da Pesca Ingioiellata) jeweled fishing pole

For those with drive, you can reach exalted with The Kalu'ak Kalu'ak
By doing their 3 daily quests for reputation

Which gives you the best Fishing pole once you hit exalted.

Next, theres (Lenza d'Eternio ad Alta Resistenza) high test eternium fishing line

Next, for you cooks, theres (Ricetta: Birra di Capitan Rumsey)
Recipe: Captain Rumsey's Lager

Lastly, theres the weather beaten fishing hat, which is handy cause its basically an endless fishing lure (+75 skill) with an additional

So lets review:
450 base skill
125 extra skill with Fishing hat lure
150 extra skill with glow worms

So you're looking at a Fishing skill of 525-550, then go fish in a pool, and you wont catch anything but fish, usually clearing the pool in 3-4 casts. Have fun completing your daily while 5 other people that have been there for lots of time look on in disgust while you give em a /lol and jump around a bit before mounting up and leaving

By the way, the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby drops (Stivali della Baia) Boots of the Bay, which gives you +15 skill and also ports you to the Booty Bay Bar, or It drops Dread Pirate Ring, an heirloom ring (Anello del Temibile Pirata)
that gives + 5% experience from Killing/Quests

Whilst doing the Kaliri Wing cooking daily in Outland I figured I'd spend a while fishing before hand-in to get this for the Achievement. So I ended up spending an hour or so flying around, hitting all the highland mixed schools I could, and had no luck.

I went to turn-in the cooking quest, chose the barrel of fish... and one of the buggers was in there.

I am not happy with this fish. I just need one of these suckers for the cooking achi. I have been fishing for over 2 hours now in TF mostly, a bit in Zanger and nothing. I have max fishing, I have been fishing mostly in fish pools (mostly Highland pools), in both open water and lakes. I have bait on my line, I do not know what else to do. I'm just going to wait until I can do my cooking daily again and pick the barrel of fish. It's usually in there.

B4 I re-specced to protection pala, I used to fish the Sporefish pools in Zangar for mp/5 food. I used to regularly catch 4-5 of these in an hour or so. But at that time, they were fekkin useless as there were no recipes around for them. I just used to vendor them for 5s each (oh Blizzard, you b@st@rds, how much money have I lost because of that)?

The same thing happened with Jagal pearls. It was a white item, but not used in anything, so they were useless and not worth anything. Then blizz introduced some JC designs that needed them and prices shot up. I suggest trying to save ANY white items (if you have the space) that appear to have no use atm. Who knows how much money you may be sitting on?

Also, in case you didn't notice (like me), the recipe makes 2 of them at a time. I caught one in a highland mixed school after fishing for about 10-15 min.
