I was able to fish these commonly right out of the Allerian Stronghold in Terokkar, near the Flight Master.

The water came up as too high of a skill with 300+25, so I used a bauble for another +75. At 400, I was barely able to catch anything, but with an Aqua. Fish Attractor, I managed good bites at 425 total fishing.

This is the trash fish of Outlands. Unless you are fishing in named pools, you will get stacks and stacks of this with about a 20% drop of 1 of 2 other buff food fish.

Feltail + Sporefish in Zangar

Darter + Feltail in Terrok(normal areas)

Mudfish + Bluefin in Nagrand

Basically useless fishing in Shadowmoon or Hellfire unless you are going for skillups.

Barbed Gill Trout can be used to cook these https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=33048 the recipe is trainable from Kylene in Worlds End Tavern within Shattrath city. You find alot of these fishing in outland so with this recipe you can make good use of them :)

I've got about 80 of these smelling up my bank, not sure about their use, I've asked in general chat but no one seems to know. I'm not sure if this means they're useless like some of the fish you got pre-bc primarily in AV but if anyone could help me out by giving an explanation it would be much appreciated.

You can fish these in Pools of Agonnar as well. I believe it'd have lower fishing requirements, but I'm not sure.

If you cook these (Blackened Trout), the resulting food sells for 30s per stack. The uncooked fish, only sells for 1s 60c'ish per stack. Since it takes no other mats to make, it's a nice way to turn around cash if you have a ton of these and would otherwise destroy or vendor them.

Makes great food for an alt hunter Pet if you are leveling fishing between 275 and 375. My alts pet is at 28 and will eat this. With the amount of fishing you do you will never have to buy food for your pet again.

Apparently as of 2.4 these fish can't be caught in Shadowmoon Valley. I guess the lava is too hot for them lol.

After getting tired of always buying clefthoof ribs to feed my pet at 70, I finally started cooking up these using the stewed trout recipe. My pet loves it. Actually gives me a reason to not mind catching them.

FISHED IN UNBRAFEN LAKE!

I can confirm that fishing with 250 fishing skill and a plus 25 rod & plus 100 lure you are 80% likely to catch one of these. I fished for 20 mins and caught over 40 of these. caught a few other fish too but all were cookable!

Try fishing on the other side of the map at the same skill and you can expect a 90% getaway! Umbrafen FTW!

I spent at least an hour and a half trying to farm a single barbed gill trout. It wasn't until I was in Zangarmarsh (previously tried farming in Terokkar) that I decided to see what would happen if I did not fish a school. I was alternatively very happy and very angry at myself when it worked.

TL;DR - You will not get Barbed Gill Trout from any school of fish as an extraneous drop. Learn from my idiocy and fish in regular water.

Easy enough. I casted next to Master Fishing Trainer Juno Dufrain in Cenarion Refuge. In ten casts, I caught ten Barbed Gill Trout.

I fished near Karazhan in Deadwind Pass between 7:30-8:30 pm server time on a Monday. I was able to get 16 Lightning Eel along with 103 Barbed Gill Trout, 41 Bloodfin Catfish, and 43 Crescent-Tail Skullfish. Hope this helps someone.

Honestly, the absolute best place I've found to fish for these is Deadwind Pass. Sitting in the very northern part looking for lightning eel, I had four stacks of them before getting even 10 eels. So they are definitely the majority fish in Deadwind.

Confirmed...

I went to Deadwind Pass down to the lake next to Kara (53, 72) and in 20 min had 17 pt skill raise in fishing, 45 Barbed Gill Trout, 15 Crescent-Tail Skullfish , 9 Bloodfin Catfish and 8 Lightning Eels . Like a 2.5 min flight from SW. Nice.

Confirmed for Barbed Gill Trout in the body of water next to the flight master in Allerian Stronghold. Cast my line into the water litterally right where the giant water wheel is, caught two out of two casts.

Also, this item is great pet food while raw. At level 60, it's a full 35 per tick of happiness. Dunno about higher, since I just got my pet to 59 when someone sent me a care package of a stack of this raw fish and the message: "FREE KITTEH FOOD!"

The recipe can be found in Zangarmarsh. Doba (cords 42, 27) at the Orebor Harborage has the Recipe: Blackened Trout for alliance. All you have to do first is to become friendly with Kurenai as you start off as unfriendly with them.

I fish these in Terrokar Forest (Req Fishing 355) in Allerian Stronghold (bottom SE corner of map)

The advantages of fishing in that town are two-fold.

One: You can fish from inside the town so no being disturbed by mobs.

Two: While this recipe sucks, you will also be catching Golden Darters. These can be made into Golden Fish Sticks that sell for around 23g a stack on my server.

The recipe for Golden Fish Sticks is found at the inn in Allerian Stronghold.

Hordies can still fish there but from outside the walls, heh.
