Currently no one seems to be able to work out what these do. I have played about with them and have found out a few things.

You apply them like an armor kit.
When you apply them, they wipe any enchants or armor kits on the boots.
They last for 30 min.
They don't increase run speed.
They don't reduce fall damage.

The only thing I can think of is they increase effective stealth level. I don't have a druid or rogue so can't test this

It has no effect at all, all you can use if for is gaining leatherworking skillups.

It goes gray at 310.

Just like the A-52 Neuralyzer Buff you get when leaving Area 52. Gives you a Buff but with a "Dummy Aura" (no effect).

In my opinion you are better off skilling up to 310 by converting knothide scraps into leather. you get skillups till 310 doing that and its more useful

I'd say they are only good to be used as a possible buff to be debuffed by a mage or some other way. Other wise they are useless.

Now these I am certain are rumours, and have never tested them myself, but they are fun to think about, as well as see what crazy ideas some people have come up with:

-Reduces fall dmg (false)
-Reduces durability loss (Untested)
-Increases run speed (false)
-Reduces dmg from Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning (Odd)
-Reduces the cooldown of the Kick ability (false)
-Increased resistance to root spells (false)
-Make your shoes more comfortable and have your character hate you less for the hundreds of times you have killed him (True!)
-Increases the duration of buffs like Underwater Breathing, Noggenfogger, and Mojo's Kiss. (Yaay... False)
-Opposite effect of spurs, reduced mount speed. (Untested)
-Utterly worthless (Maybe...)

It is pretty obvious that these are for your purely cosmetic seasonal or role-playing outfits. Most especially they work best for the bank toon you want to deck out in expensive but useless items.

I tested the durability theory today several times wearing my boots of natural grace only (60 durability) and each time they lost 6 of that durability. So that's a false on the durability thing in my book.

From what I have heard, they reduce the amount cost for Repairs, IE. 50g repair is lowered with these one, have not checked into this yet.

To clear up the mystery of these insoles reducing falling damage or durability damage, I decided to perform my own little test. Removing all my clothes besides a pair of Rift Striders, I went out and tested three different ways of dying. But first, I went and checked basic falling damage.

Falling from the same point every time, falling the same distance, my damage taken was as follows:
Without insoles:
- 1257
- 1241
- 1245

With insoles:
- 1239
- 1245
- 1169

There was very little difference between the two trials, probably caused by a fault in the style of my falling. Next I moved onto falling to my death to track durability damage. This trial had the following results:
Without insoles:
- 65 => 59

With insoles:
- 65 => 59

Insoles made no difference here, so I moved on to drowning:
Without insoles:
- 65 => 59

With insoles:
- 65 => 59

Once again, no difference. Finally, I tested death in NPC combat:
Without insoles:
- 65 => 59

With insoles:
- 65 => 58

The irregularity at the end was most likely due to the fact that the NPC took a few extra shots on me than when I was wearing plain shoes.
In conclusion, I discovered that durability damage taken to boots is not changed by comfortable insoles. Also, NPC combat can cause varied durability damage depending on how much of a beating you take.
So can comfortable insoles reduce durablity damage taken? No.

I found that as long as you keep your footwear dry, these have a very high level of odor absorbancy. I never noticed an odor problem, but others were complaining- but not after i started using these babies.

They should make and achievement for this!
Defeat King Ymiron in Utgarde Pinnacle while under the effects of 10 stacks of pigmy oil, comfortable insoles, delicious chocolate cake, old spice, and baby spice.
That way you can be an uber comfy mini pigmy who smells really nice while having a fantastic day killing King Ymiron. I think it should be part of the april fools holiday week! =P

I have no idea if this is related or not but I tried these on today and went outside to test fall damage.. no change of course, however.. After I ran back inside I noticed I was locked in the swimming animation. Never had that happen before.. Anyone able to confirm a link or was it pure coincidence?

Don't be a crank! Comfortable Insoles will take out the clank! Whether cloth, leather, mail, or plate, your stressed feet are sure to ache! So why wait? Soften your step with real leather. Your feet will feel light as a feather! They'll stick with you through any endeavor! How are those footsies feeling, pup? Comfortable Insoles will warm them up! Don't get blisters from Clammy boots. You could miss the epic lewts. Never be fooled, these aren't trash! But if you wear them you need a heart to match.

Let me be really clear on this.

These DO NOT reduce durability damage.

I used these over 5 wipes in a raid tonight amd the cost per wipe is exactly the same as was the durability loss per death.

So they are not for lowering cost of durability.

Okay, I'm a total geek but...who cares. I did an experiment, because on thottbot they weren't really sure about what this item did.

I put on two pieces of armour, both with durability of /60 and of the same level, threw on my insoles and then suicided in the name of science. The difference was two points of durability in favour of the boots VS the shoulders. The effect stacks as long as you have them on, I died a couple times just to make sure they didn't only last one death. Not much but every gold off the ol' repair bill helps.

Well, more durability is quite nice, but notice that you will lose your enchant on your boots like +stam or +agi when using them, enchant and the soles do not stack. This doesn't seem to be worth it....

The most obvious thing to me is that they would increase your effective stealth level. Would be interested to hear if any rougues have found a lesser chance of detection with them applied. I will try them out on my rougue at some point but the only thing is, even if this is what they are for the buff will only be very small and will be more for the purpose of stacking with other buffs of that kind so it may be hard to notice. Ill report any findings if/when i get them.

Temporary durability enhancer - you take less damage to your items - a definate must have for tanks in groups and raids to save on armor damage - get a couple of these suckers and just refresh the buff every 30 mins - makes your gear last a heck of a lot longer and saves a fortune in repair bills.

Still can't get an use for this.

It's a 30 minutes buff on feet, but since it's replacing my enchant I've never tried yet. Maybe a sort of temporany speed buff?

A buddy in my guild tried them on when he was in Orgrimmar and said that his he had an increase in his blue rested XP with them on. This may be what it is for. I can't really say for sure since I haven't tried it myself.

I dont' know what any of you are talking about, there is a ton of misconceptions going around about this item. I just did some tests after reading these comments.

Using the same boots that have 40 max durability and an enchantment that reads Minor Speed and +9 Stamina here is what i did:

1) Fly up on top of a graveyard and plummet to my death
2) Boots lose 4 durability
3) Use the comfortable insoles on boots
4) Comfortable insoles STACK with already present enchantment, and last only 30 minutes (much like wizard oil for weapon, only for boots).
5) Absolutely zero noticeable stat boost
6) Fly & plummet to death again
7) Boots lose 4 durability
8) Fly & plummet to death just in case
9) Boots lose 4 durability

The comfortable insoles appear to do absolutely nothing for your character, whatsoever. Looks like another blizzard gimmick to me =p Now where's my repair bill >.>

...don't seem to understand this: Durability loss from DEATH is a constant 10%. Any item that improves durability under normal circumstances will not reduce durability loss from DEATH.

Well we've tried walking on water, falling off things, mana regen rate, health regen rate, and so far NO LUCK on figuring this item out.

I think this might be the classic "Keep an idiot busy for hours" type gag.

These are to help leatherworkers skill up for cheap. However, considering the incredible armors you can produce right at skill 300, I can't see any reason to make these when I can make class A armors for my druid and rogue to upgrade their sucky non raid gear.

It's funny watching everyone speculate, but if it offered some real benefit, it would be listed in the item description i'm pretty sure.

Comfortable Insoles = 30 min buff that minimize's durability loss on all items by 30%, a must have for any tank or anyone that feels they spend to much for repairs.

My research:
1.
tested with only two items equipped:

Shoulder durability 3/60
Boots durability 4/60.

Let some mobs hit me for a while:
Shoulder durability 1/60
Boots durability 4/60

died

Shoulder durability 0/60
Boots durability 0/60

*this might not be enough tested though*

2.
Shoulder durability 60/60
Boots durability 60/60
died
Shoulder durability 54/60
Boots durability 54/60
(6/60 = 10% durability loss)

*this should say enough, you'll still suffer 10% durability loss when you die*

Conclusion 1: only affect boots
Conclusion 2: durability loss when dying(which will be the major one) aren't affected.

I always thought it might end up as a material used to make a higher level boot.

IE Materials required - 50 clefthoof leather
- 15 felscales
- 2 comfortable insoles

Just a thought anyway :)

All righty. Lemme see how much help I can do by collecting all thats been said before me. These MAY help with durability loss, though as stated, they dont affect death's damage and its not a sure thing. They do replace other enhancements, however. So what you all are tearing yourselves, and each other, apart about is some little role playing item that role players with little 'leather working shops' can sell to make their boots a bit more 'comfortable'. They have no use. Get over it. Does L70ETC (Level 70 Elite Tauren Cheiftan) in Silvermoon have a purpose now, besides waving at? No. Why does every item have to have a purpose? Holiday gear, any purpose once its over? Absolutely not. Its either because you like to bullcrap sometimes when you're bored or you roleplay. Either way, these still dont make a difference. And you dont need to go outside and take a breath of fresh air if you find amusement from these. And yes, 'Amusement' is different from 'Entertainment', simply by the length of time and the amount of fun you have with them. These are cute add-ons to boots, and as said before as well, they help lvl your Leather Working once you can make them. Especially when it takes so little to do so.
