When looking to socket certain gear, the combo of Yellow sockets and Blue sockets came up frequently, and in my opinion, this gem is far better than a Nightseye for any nuker build.

The Spell penetration itself is decent enough, especially against mobs with high resist or boss types, but the Critical strike is where this gem shines. Would I sacrifice spell damage for crit? Depending on how much spell damage I already have, in my personal case, aboslutely. Another 5 spell damage takes me from 1430 to 1435, but when I am trying to accumulate Spell crit and Spell hit, gems like this one are far better than just throwing on a Spell damage/Stamina gem to meet the blue gem requirements.

And I am currently looking to take apart all my Runed Living Rubis and replace them with +Hit/+Crit gems, as they scale far better than an extra 20-30 spell damage.
