Make sure you're not just shift+clicking to loot. If you move on too quickly, the popup to loot a BoP item will disappear and you might miss the drop.

Flied on a circle around of a white building and landed to kill Vir'aani Arcanists.

The best strategy is to run from one big white stone to another (one on the south, other on the north), it's enough time to let the mobs respawn.
For me this recipe droped from 15th mob. Lucky I'm :)

Took 335 kills for it to drop. I wouldnt mind so much, but its a necessary recipe for end-game. I would recommend not farming this solo, but take some guildies with to farm it as it benefits the guild for the most part.

listed drop rate for this item (17k plus kills ) is .4% so it might take a while to get also some of the spawn points are shared with Vir'aani Raider's so be shure to clear all mobs or you will end up with fewer to kill

Dropped on my 164th arcanist (after 70 raiders). Takes about 2 hours. You will get into a pattern where you run between the 3 white stones killing arcanists. When there are too many raiders and not enough arcanists clear both types until they even out. Made about 140 netherweave as well.

Confirmed. Drops in Nagrand around Oshugun. As a level 70 rogue the mobs died fast. I think I killed between 20-30.
Very pleased to know how to make this potion.
Also it is true about only Alchemists being able to see it. The hunter helping me farm for it did not know it had dropped when I looted the winning-corpse :)

Took me 2 full circles around Oshu'gun took get the recipe, killed every arcanist alive on both trips.

This recipe is still orange for me at 371 alchemy. Should be quite a good way to level up to 375 without wasted skillup opportunities, assuming you're prepared to farm this BoP recipe and a bit of primal mana.

The fact it's actually something useful is definitely a nice bonus.

Since only alchemist who doesnt have it learned already can see the recipe drop, the % showed here is not really accurate.

You have to use WoW's Armory which give:

Edit: 475 kills to get the drop, so yes, it still drops from this mob.

Got mine in a solid hour of farming. I just ran around the entire Area, there are 3 good spots where many spawn, to the Northwest, Northeast, and Southwest of the giant crystal, and a few around the edge of the giant crystal, northeast, North, and Southeast. Also got lucky with a Jewelcrafting recipe drop. Not bad at all :)

I was fortunate, it dropped on the 5th kill. Be warned, sometimes the Arcanists will phase behind you, and be much farther behind you than other ethereals. They might seem to vanish, but they're simply 30 yards behind you.

This dropped for me tonight after about 25 minutes worth of farming.

I started off in the south west corner of the map, and worked my way around Oshu'gun, killing all Vir'aani Arcanists I saw, then moving onto the next lot. By the time I had reached the group mining at the north end of Oshu'gun, the recipe dropped.

This Item was VERY hard for me to get i farmed for it for about 2 hours but never got it...after i left i came back like 2 weeks later killed 2 or 3 and it droped right away i guess this just says that they are almost completly random.... good luck trying to get them. hopefully its easyer for you than me.

just keep plugging away, ignore the "drop rate shown as low because only alchemists see it" comments, it can be as low as hell for some people and great for others, just pray you're a lucky one

Just remember to clear around at each of the white crystals, and also around the very edge of the oshugun theres about 5 in total around in inside. Took me and hunter about 30 minutes of farming to get it. Good luck.

I got this on my second kill. I feel kind of bad looking at all these people who spent hours farming it... but...

Is it possible that some of these recipes had their drop rates buffed in Wrath sometime? I remember searching for two JCing recipes which were supposed to be really rare and I got them both within 5 minutes, and a friend was farming for some enchant recipe which also was supposed to be low, but again he got it really quickly.

I don't know but it's possible it's all just been buffed.

Either the droprate has been increased or I was very lucky having it on my VERY first kill today. Landed and went inside only to discover that the mobs were outside so I went out and started killing prepared for a grind but.. Meh first mob.. Finally I have tried luck in World of Warcraft!

Blizz has made certain Enchanting recipes, such as those that drop in Kara, a 100% droprate.

Alchemy recipes like these no longer have any use, except for those of us who like to complete our professions by having everything available.

With that being said, it would be EXCELLENT if Blizz would up the droprate, so we don't have to spend hours grinding old school misc stuff.

Just got this today from the Arcanists, as listed.

For anyone farming this, there is no need to kill the raiders. The arcanists seem to always spawn as other arcanists, while the raiders seem to always spawn as other raiders. I found it very easy to clear my way around Oshu'gun, then go herbing for a few minutes and come back and re-clear.

All in all, it only took me about 20 minutes to farm this recipe. Good luck!

I decided to begin farming this recipe yesterday. Knowing that my guild was having trouble with the Curator and all, I thought it'd be nice if we had this recipe in-guild.

I caught a wyvern to Garadar, hopped on my flying mount, and headed down to Oshu'gun. Landed, buffed, pulled my first Vir'anni Arcanist. Lo and behold, my first kill yielded the recipe.

I will never get that lucky again.

This finally dropped after almost 3 consecutive hours of grinding. I also received nearly 8 stacks of netherweave cloth,5 nice greens, a few scrolls, some drink and food items, 3 super mana potions and 2 super healing potions.Not to mention about 45 Oshu'gun Crystal Powder Sample...Oh and a 10g repair bill (:
To those who are having trouble getting this to drop, just be persistent.If you have a friend who can help that should make the process twice as fast (in theory).

This is my 3rd day of farming this.... spent about an hour and a half each day... still no luck.... epic leatherworking pattern dropped off them, no alch recipe yet... guess I shouldn't complain too much...

EDIT: I FINALLY got this recipe to drop. I would estimate that I killed well over 500 before I got it.

I got mine in about half an hour of grinding on the Arcanists. I was about halfway to my 7th stack of Netherweave Cloth when it dropped.

It's a good feeling to finally get it after 193 kills. I made three batches and still no cauldron :( Guess i need to go farm some more mana motes :(

The little islands around the big rock seem to have the most of these mobs.

With BOP recipes only showing to alchemist, the drop rate shown will be alot less then what it actually is.

This recipe and the 3 fel potions for exemple...

The 3 fel potions aren't that rare. Hping this one isn't either.

Got this a few weeks ago. I was with a rogue friend who is not an Alchemist and I believe only I could see and loot it. But I was only 300 Alch at the time, so it definitely drops even if you don't have the skill level for it. Went in my bank and learned it a week later. Too bad the mats are so exspensive it itsn't viable right now :(.

I had similar results to osme of the people here. I flew around the big crystal palace thing killing arcanists for 30 minutes. The recipe finally dropped off the one at 35,63 (same for others people it sounds like). After I got my recipe, I went to shat and learned the cauldron on the 6th batch of potions.

The farming for this takes a bit, took me 3 times around oshu'gun till i got one, i dont know how many i killed but the farming took me about 50 minutes, it wasn't hard because the arcanists dont do much damage.

I farmed this recipe for 4-5 hours today...I was starting to get really frustrated. Just as I was getting ready to quit I killed a group of 3 arcanists. The recipe dropped off two of the three. Which was funny..in a twisted sort of way..

Well I am sorry for all of you that had to grind countless hours for this recipe. I went to Nagrand expecting a long drawn out drop rate, extra food and water and plenty of bag space. Dropped off the second arcanist I killed, Not even 2 minutes of grinding. Good Luck to you all and I hope you have the same luck as I did.

Well, my story falls somewhere in the middle. Must have killed like 60-80 of them to get it. Took maybe two hours. But well worth it if it helps take down the Curator!

Just keep grinding them. One of the Arcanists will eventually drop it. Got mine from one of the ones on the northern side to the left of the passageway into Oshu'gun where three patrolling Arcanists are located. Though that hardly matters. Any of them should drop it if you just get lucky.

Got mine after only about 3 hours farming, so it does drop. It's just a matter of luck. The shadow protection recipe took much longer-weeks of farming shadow warlocks and getting ganked by the elite. This is much easier-no elite other than Durn to worry about.

Well I wish i could say this was cake, but i have been grinding these arcanists and no luck yet (about 110-120 mobs), where as i got the shadow protection one on my third kill, lol. But atleast the rep drops are not bad and the voids near the area are dropping the motes of shadow for the shadow protection pot. well just thought id give my little update. By the way Im from Balnazzar, (I know its a dead server but its my server)

UPDATE: 4 hours 46 min/ 220 or so mobs later, I just got the recipe.

To everyone else trying to get this goodluck. and just stick with it.

4 hours and 65 kills later, it finally dropped for me, if you find its not dropping for you after kill 50-55, take a break, go quest or something then come back, I had 9 Mote of Shadow drop from Voidspawn's and the recipe finally dropped.

It seams that ALL of the Major (magic class) Protection Potions have an extremely low drop rate. There are a few out there that have been lucky enough to get it early on, but almost every major potion has a very low drop rate.

Stick with it. It took me almost 500 kills to get my Holy protection while it took me about 13 kills to get this arcane potion. Unfortunately these things take time. Don't get too discourage.

If you start getting aggravated with it go somewhere else to farm and come back to it later. It does not help when you are pissed and the item that you want does not drop. I truly know the feeling. I normally come back to it later, or you must be prepared to be sitting there for a long time.
