You're lucky if you got this before the recent 2.0 patch, because like Crydel said this mount now costs 90 marks from Alterac Valley, which could be spent on Epic PvP gear under the new system.

This mount is "better" than the other PvP mounts because it doesn't have any cooldown timer. However, the 3sec cooldown that the other mounts have is hardly noticeable.

I have gathered around 550g and paid for the skill, and was left nearly dry.
Seeing as I never liked the 100% speed kodos in the first place, I took a weekend
and got the 50 marks. This wolf is very fast not to mention it looks awesome!

Back in the day, AV was THE faction to grind rep with, and this mount was THE mount to have. Many good items came from AV rep and are still fondly remembered today (The Unstoppable Force, anyone?), and due to the low price and pure awesomeness of these mounts, people would often not buy their faction epic mount and instead just go straight for this. It was definitely very cool for those who had one back then.

Unfortunately the value is a bit diminished now. All it requires is 50 AV marks, which can be obtained casually in a few days. Still one of the coolest looking mounts in the game though, IMO.

My only complaint is the way Orcs look on wolves, even though it is their racial mount. It looks as if the poor thing's legs are about to give way!

As of patch 3.02 this item no longer summons the mount. Instead it teaches you how to summon it. Smart move of Blizzard making the mount mechanic more fair allowing all players to save a bag slot, and not only Paladins and Warlocks. Note that the mana cost of Paladin's and Warlock's mount summon has been removed as well.

I prefered the look of the unarmored wolf mount before 1.6. I think, although the frostwolf howler looks amazing, the helm on it makes the head look too small.

well i just got this, first AV mount i ever decided to get
only one worth getting
i originally played alliance
and could never find a well looking mount that was easily obtain(not drops)
and so when i played horde i had to have it, my mount is the frostwolf howler and my hunter pet is a "black war wolf" or the wolf from hellfire ramparts

As of 3.1, the animations for the Horde wolf mounts have been VASTLY improved. There's no more stick-up-the-butt syndrome - the run cycle now looks graceful. Also the body doesn't dip so low as to clip some of the larger races' feet. The /mountspecial has been changed slightly too, to look less like a playful puppy's bow and more fierce.

I finally got this about 3 weeks ago Its not that hard to save up 50AV marks... it just depends on how the battle plays out. my battlegroup is Rampage and i got the marks for it no prob in the 61-70 bracket. its a good mount to have after u just spent 500+G for journeyman riding it doesnt cost any gold only ur time in AV. Great first epic mount if dont have G to pay for faction epic.

Good for Death Knights - you start with Journeyman riding, you start at about the right level to be the top of your level bracket, and you start with a mount that makes the most unpleasant noise on earth, so i'd be surprised if AV wasn't full of Dks grinding.

If you ask me, compared to the allience Battle ram that they get, we seriuosly get the good end of the stick, this mount looks freaken awesome...just 20 more marks to get and its mine :P sigh, but loosing in AV and only getting 1 mark per bg going to take long :/ need to win a few more.

As of patch 3.2.0 i have been farming av for exp on my 74 (now 76) Deathknight alt.

Getting around about 100k exp per bg and leaving questing zones unfinished.
Marks piling up in the currency tab
Lots of honour so i can have atleast 1 pvp item when i hit 80.
Much better than grinding on mobs due to not having the feeling of deja vous.

The point of this post is that a lot of people know how much exp av is giving as of 3.2

Frostwolf howlers are about to become very common as a lot of people are gradually turning to av for leveling due to reasons above.

this item is really the only viable item to blow marks on.

One can only hope with the new patch removing the achievements you get via rep with the Battleground factions will not remove this mount. More info as the patch goes live!

Rumors say this mount will go away in the expansion, best get it before that happends! This is to make the mount more exclusive for the older players. This is only a rumord heard on MMO-Champion forums, but I'm getting it on all my chars before it's to late. Better safe than sorry!

As a side-note. This is the mount that Thrall rides.

An addendum to the note above. The REASON Thrall rides this mount, is that the Frostwolf clan were the clan that took him in after his escape from Durnholde, their shamans taught him what he knows, and he gained a wolf familiar, Snowsong.

Of course, back in vanilla no one cared about the pink eyes. This was because the number of mounts to choose from was very VERY limited and no one was as critical as they are today. Just gathering 1000 gold at level 60 to get ANY epic mount at that time was a task that took many months of daily grinding and typically only high end raid guilds were able to accomplish.

This mount was available by grinding your AV faction to exalted and putting down only 640 gold. Of course the discount was nice but back in those days it still took months to get this because of battleground pops (although on some more active servers it could be done in under a month provided you did all the AV quests and had lots of time to spare.) There was no cross battlegroup randoms and the AV Q often went for 6+ hours before finally popping. After the pop, the game could last over 24 hours (rare) but regardless of how long it went, you weren't able to get fast faction like you can today.. not by a long shot.

Of all my mounts, I still use this one as my main to remember the days when I still logged into the game with that original excitement... an excitement that has long since disappeared.

Made an account just to post this, for those of you trying to find this mount in 4.3 You need to go to alterac mountains and find Jorek Ironside the frostwolf supply officer. He is located north of Tarren Mill. Hope this helped someone, took me forever to remember where these guys were.

This mount is obtainableonce you are exalted with alterac battlegrounds on horde. ANY class can ride it. I am a tauren and I can ride it and it looks sick. The perk is it only costs 640g. You never lose it like PvP mounts because you don't lose faction...very nice.

Took me about 1.5 weeks to get exalted with AV. It's all about questing, looting, and most definitely winning. The hardest part is just pretty much having the raid work as a whole team instead of having each person do their own thing. I must admit there were times when I got so frustrated, I wanted to quit right then and there. --this close. LoL. But hey, being level 58 with an epic mount is definitely something worth my while =)

To straighten up the facts about this.

1. Any race (Horde ONLY) can rid this mount, no riding skill needed.

2. It cost 640G

3. Taurens riding on this mount make the wolf about a foot taller, If you are thinking real life sizes etc, So a cow does not look wierd riding on it.

4. It now requires level 60 to ride this mount.

People have said all the above but theres still some people that dont read the whole thread. So look before you post.

As of 1.12.1

You now need the new Epic riding skill to be able to use the Frostwolf. This costs at least 720G.
900G without the 20% discount you get at Sergeant (PVP Rank 3)).

The mount itself is just 8G, however, in order to ride it you MUST have either:

Previously owned a (Non PVP) Epic mount.
Paid 720-900G for the ability to ride epic mounts.

If you have 75/75 riding skill, that's not enough.
If you paid 72-90G for your riding skill, not enough.

Is it me or is this mount (pvp mounts in general?) faster than the nonpvp epic mounts? When my team is going for a flag in AB or AV I am usually ahead of everyone and very clearly am faster. I have to stop and wait for people to catch up. I have no speed boosts that I am aware of.

I think the mount looks nice with every race. Orcs look like they belong on it. ( I'm an orc)Tauren look proportional to it, and very good on it also. Trolls look nice on it too. I think undead look really really cool on this mount. So basically if you play on the horde and want a pvp mount i suggest this one.

Don't need to be exalted with frostwolf,only need 50 AV marks.
I went home to get my riding skill,so onlycost me 510G!
You get the Wolf off of Gruunda Wolfheart,she's now in the AV instance beside the Orc you turn in the Armor scraps to..

I love this mount,was worth spending my AV marks

I'm farming AV for this right now, I managed to get 41 marks in two days. I did nothing but AV, lol. Got 9,500 honor as well. 3 more winning games and I'll have my new mount. :)

Does this mean you could, in theory, get an epic mount before level 60? Doesn't seem like there's a level or skill requirement.

If so, then DAMN it's a good item.

Oh and one more question: Is that vendor price accurate, or do you get the standard discount for being Honored (Or in this case Exhalted).

i just got one myself.and yes taurens can mount.yes its 800gold bug with the less20% its 640gold.yes eveyone cna mount it even before lvl 60(you need reputation and money).i even gave my wolfie to a lvl 2 player.i hope hes happy :)

Hi everybody,

I scanned the posts so I know u have to be Exalted with Frostwolf and so on... but nobody said if you have to have a minimum rank. Somebody in the game told me you have to be a warlord, is this true? Or are the kills you make getting Exalted also sufficient to get you the required rank?

I'm really puzzled, and will be glad if aou can help me.

I just thought, we know from the screens that Tauren can buy and ride this item, but my first question is do they have to buy wolf riding from Orgrimmar first. Normally I would think yes because it's a wolf, but the special circumstances surrounding this wolf would also make me feel otherwise, that this item sort of popped up in Bliz minds so they didn't think far enough ahead to make a Kodo or make wolf riding a requisite for this item. Note all wolf horns (I checked horn of the Dire Wolf, my mount) say "Requires Wolf Riding 1" and this does not, so I guess I just answered my question. I think for continuities sake Tauren should have to have wolf riding, but it's not fair to charge them an extra 12g, assuming they haven't bought wolf riding before. Note this mount is also BoP, so you can't have someone else buy it who has a discount you don't and give it to you, like the other mounts. For those who don't know what I mean, if say I want a mount that costs me 90g because I do not have the honored rank and I am not a Seargeant, I find a seargeant with some time, give him the 64g(? is my math right) it will cost him for being honored AND seargeant, and then he trades the mount to me and I give him 64 instead of having to pay 90 to the vendor.

Now my second question is, is this thing dropped as well, instead of simply bought? Allah says its dropped by those people, not sold. Other mounts on Allah say "Sold by..." why not this one. So do Alliance kill the stable master in AV BG and get a mount horn for our side?

Some notes:

* Every Horde-race can ride this.
* Honored + Sergeant-rank give 20% discount making it cost 640G.
* 100% speed-mount.
* It is bought from the AV-vendors, just like the other AV-rewards.
* You have to be lvl 60 for this.
* You can buy this at exalted with Frostwolf Clan, you do NOT require the last 999 rep in exalted.

Yes, currently it's enabled... except if Blizzard adds an extra epic horde mount reward...

If tauren couldn't ride it... it would be unfair... maybe they will change it in the future...

All pic's looks like they are taking inside AV, and lots of other AV reward can only be used in the the battleground....

Approximately how many wins and/or turnins does it take to get Exalted on AV Weekends? AV Games are long and the Alliance usually wins on my server, I'm wondering if it'd be a waste of time to try to get this.

i read the alterac valley rewards page at bliz's site the night they came out....and I knew right away i was getting one of these instead of the regular, or even the 'other' PvP mounts. since there seems to be some confusion, yes taurens can ride this, look at the screeshot links above this post! they are MASSIVE TOWERING LUMBERING BEASTS. pretty funny looking, grats to that guy. and how to get them. you need to be exalted, that is the HIGHEST reputatation rank with the Alterac Valley people (forget what their name is). They are not directly under the Horde in our reputation screens, they are under Horde forces, along with the Warsong Gulch people as well (the other BG, in barrens). They are usually 800g, however by the time you are exalted with the Frostwolf Clan of Alterac Valley by dominating in that specificaly PvP BG, you, I am assuming, will have lots and lots and lots of honor, hopefully enough to be at least seargeant, and earn the accompanying 10% discount. So that should take some time, right? And there is another 10% discount that we can earn worldwide by being 'Honored' with the faction in question. So you have to be 'exalted' with Frostwolves, which is higher than 'honored', so just by right if you can buy this mount the game takes 10% off the price. So you need 'exalted' rank with frostwolf clan and preferably have rank 3 and 640 gold. Happy hunting!

ok, the frost wolf, used to cost 640g, then the update came, now it costs 8 gold...wow! but you need wolf riding 150, wich costs 720g, now you're paying 728g for something that used to cost 640, i think blizzard shoulda thought a bit harder about that one. kinda defeats the purpose of getting exalted for the "cheap mount" you can save 72g, that is if you put countless hours into AV, pretty pointless, very stupid.

This Wolf can be bought from Jekyll Flandring infront of the Horde Alterac Valley entrance in . Coordinates are ?

You can also buy it from Grunnda Wolfheart inside of Alterac Valley.

The Alliance equivalent of this Mount is Stormpike Battle Charger.

To be able to buy it, you have to reach exalted with Frostwolf Clan.

You can buy this mount for 640g if you are Exalted and have PVP Rank 3.

The base price is 800g. You have 10 % discount when Honored or better. And another 10 % for having PVP Rank 3 or better. There is also no need to purchase any riding skill.
