Without doubt one of the hardest achievements to get.

Deathcharger's Reins is a 0.01% drop chance from the last boss in Stratholme, Baron Rivendare.

It might be easier to do the whole instance at level 80. But it will still take LOTS of dedication to farm it. And I really doubt the amount of people hardcore farming this will be any higher than it currently is. As you need insane patience to get this mount, even at level 80 due to the amount of runs you actually have to go trough. I see people trying every single day in Stratholme and they give up after four or five runs and never look back, I wouldn't be surprised if they gave up at 80 too.

Baron Rivendare will be located in Ebon Hold, Eastern Plaguelands. I doubt he will still exist in Stratholme when WotLK will go live.
You can check this out by starting as Death Knight in blizzard beta-opt.

This thing has dropped twice in two days for some people in my guild.

Both people who it dropped for were Ret Paladins soloing the instance.

I'm assuming they increased the droprate?

The droprate was increased to 1% in patch 3.0.2, as stated by Blizzard on the official forums:

While random is indeed random, the chance of Deathchanger's Reins dropping was increased with 3.0.2. This is the second time the drop rate has been increased, from the rather crazy 1 in 5000 WAY back in the day to the 1 in 100 it is now.

I dont know about you guys but i cannot wait to spend hours in strat farming this up especially after 7 runs i think my luck ran out when i got an epic mage staff so mabye the wow-karma will make me farm it even more but it will be well worth it for taurens because we cant get a deathcharger any other way :(

Even though the mount has a 0.10% drop rate it is all up to you whether its worth the farming hours or maybe even one run of it

I did it about 20 times on my 80 DK and it finally dropped and it is worth the awesomeness and ppl laughing at you saying "You have no life"

saw a DK with this mount. read his statistic and he only did it 26 times.

but this is so easy, im a mage. and i run it in 9-11 minutes depending on if i pull adds or not.
NOTE: im frostfire. so no instant invis, and its on a 3 min CD

enter the back door, strafe and blink past the skeletons and open the second&third gate.
run and blink left to the spider like boss, this one is the most annoying because he likes to move around and may pull additional adds. i use IV and kill him, then the adds inside.

run out. blink past a mob and pop invis. stay away from eye of naxx(random spawn location) and the ghouls that see stealth/invis. by the ime invis breaks you should be at the banshee boss. when soloing she won't port away, so i use combustion and nuke her down then the 5 inside

go outside. this is the part that can cause problems. blink through the ghouls on the left wall just before the tunnel. you will bypass them and the crates. then proceed carefully through the tunnel which has 3(or 4 bats if the rare spawn is here, not worth killing for a bop blue and the fact he stands and aggros like crazy). continue blinking and avoiding adds until your at the third boss. you can walk up the left side of the ramp and avoid the 4 adds in front(or kill them. they are easy). kill him, hes a caster and most his attacks miss me. go in kill the 5 adds.

look for baron rivindare yelling. if hes not yelling. you didn't kill all the inside adds and you can't proceed. use blink when its up and the invis CD should be up or just about up(yes we move that fast). go into the aBomb nest and kill them. kill all but 1, then eat/drink. stand on the ramp into the building and kill the final one. when the door opens for ramstein to come out you go inside. i living bomb him, run down the ramp to barons door(which is closed) pop mirror image and let them tank because ramstein will do a stun to you and he hits for 2-3k(which is harder than anything else in strath). kill him. walk up the ramp(still locked inside) and kill the 5 skeletons. then you can go into barons room. pop IV and combustion and pull. your clones will die now if they havent. nuke him quick and claim your spoils. the baron skeleton adds kill themselves on your molten armor. get nude. and run outside the building and let the 70 something skeletons kill you. release and corpse run. reset strath as you do. its much quicker and easier then running out and reseting.

NOTE: if you do NOT run inside when the door opens for ramstein you will be locked out for another 2 minutes as you kill the skeleton trash waves that come out. then you just plain wait for the door to open and the elites to finaly come out.

Tip: to kill the 5 adds inside i run through, body pulling all 5, then dragons breath and blast wave. kills them. hope this helps all you mages =). also my Hearth is bound to lights hope chapel(since i gave up farming the time lost proto drake)

Edit2: friends have told me, and i have confirmed, that Serpent-Coil braid + 2 piece frostfire mana bonus stacks. 5600 mana per use. but the spell power does not stack nor double proc.

Running Stratholme for the mount can be tiresome, but keep at it & it will drop eventually.

Here are some suggestions that you may find helpful.

1. Don't run with your bags full. Pick up the blues, pick up the greens, and pick up the runecloth. Even if you can't disenchant an item; you can vendor it for a good bit. Every 2 or 3 runs you should run back to Light's Hope Chapel and vendor / mail items to a bank alt or disenchanter.

2. If you're a hunter, dismiss your pet. Those monsters can aggro you even at level 80. You can always run a little bit farther to a safe zone and just feign. If your pet is out, you pretty much have to kill them, and that takes extra time. I probably wouldn't advise this to a warlock though.

That being said I'm close to run 50, and I haven't seen the reigns drop yet... However I've made well over a thousand gold, and I'm sure that will eventually help somewhere. :) I've found well over 20 BoE blues and 1 world epic. It's not the best gold in WoW, but it's not the worst either.

This map route is the one i take daily in hopes of farming the mount and runecloth (both entrances are shown) I take this route daily, never have to deal with the annoying 20seconds of waiting inbetween the gates being attacked by stupid plagued rats.

Have ran this 79 times so far and still no mount, saw the epic runeblade drop once. Will definatally be back at it once server maintnence is up. But 79 times and no luck. Had the abominations bug out on me 3 times, 2 of the 3 times the doors to baron rivendare do not open and was forced to hearth without even getting to kill him, the one time the abominatinos all respawned and had to be killed. Somebody pass on some of the good luck...

I won this mount on first kill by Rivendare in Stratholme. Honestly. Were grinding rep to Argent Dawn.

Statestic says 7, but you know, I was on reputation trip so I ran Strat few more times.

Quick tip for rogues/stealthers: You do not need to stealth through most of the instance. I started stealthing until I realized I didn't have to... Just maneuver between the mobs and you should be fine. Also, this would be difficult for rogues if we didn't have fan of knives for the end AOE wave. FoK ftw!

A guildmate of mine had been trying to get this mount since August 2008, running it constantly. Since the patch where blizzard started tracking achievements, he killed the Baron 93 times, and finally got his mount a week or so ago. He's a rogue, but sometimes guildmembers would run it with him until they got instance-locked. For the lucky few who get it in <50 runs, grats. For the rest...good luck in there

My GM has been trying to get this for a while now (around 40 runs I think). Another guild mate picked up on the idea and got the mount on his first run. Guess it's just the luck of the draw. I for one have been doing it sometimes on my own and sometimes with my GM, up to 19 times now and no drop. Hopefully we won't need to do it 200 times to get one for both of us. Lol.

just a quick overview of the flesh-golem glitch just before rammstein if you're grinding for the mount;

there is a known glitch that, when only afew of the golems're left, they'll all despawn, respawn a second later, but even if you kill them all, the door doesn't unlock and rammstein doesn't appear. this glitch, obviously, sucks :p but you can avoid it by doing the following;

1) slow down on killing the golems. i would much rather stop & drink for 30seconds than haveto hearth & reset >.<

2) there are *some* issues with *temporary* pets, ie. shaman elementals, mage mirror images, dk ghouls. but as far as i know, not with either hunters or warlocks

3) location? i've heard from others they only have the problem if a golem reaches the locked door, i personally haven't, but it's not too much trouble to avoid this :]

Ive been farming Strath for the mount for a couple of weeks now. Im not so bothered that it hasnt dropped as I like to use the instance as my main source of gold. Rather than use the back door I like to clear the instance and make about 200 - 300g per day. This is what I get from 90 mins farming:

About 50g in loot.
10 - 20g in vendor trash.
50 - 75g worth of enchanting mats from DE.
50 - 60g in rune cloth (2.5 - 3g per stack)
the occasional perfect black diamond worth 75 - 100g
usually 1 - 3 boe blues and patterns worth selling on the ah.

Definitely worth doing whilst waiting for the mount to drop! :)

As a boomkin I just tend to race in and pull as much as possible with typhoon and star fall and blast em all with hurricane, having my treants out as back up. the longest part is looting everything.

A trick with Patch 3.1:

Destroying any "trap" boxes will despawn the nearest door doodad. "Loot" four trap boxes in front of the slaughterhouse and Baron's room will be wide open, without killing anything.

This may be fixed in a future patch though, maybe even in 3.1.1

As mentioned by others, there is now a glitch where, after dodging all the mobs up to the slaughterhouse gates, just open the two boxes that spawn EITHER SIDE of the gate, and as the boxes despawn, the gates disappear too. One box per gate, and they always spawn around the main gates, no need to go hunting for other boxes. (Boxes elsewhere don't always make them disappear either so these are the best ones to do). Tested by myself and two other guildies, works every time.

You can also then dodge inside the doors as you kill Rammstein of course, saving yet more time. Still no mount for me though. Done between 70-90 runs at a guess (mobinfo helpfully reset at around no. 50.....).

I Did a run yesterday on my 80 priest, entering thru service entrance. Outside was an 80 pala, none of us got in for a few mins due to the “additional instances” and we started chatting. We kept whispering throughout our respective runs. I told him about the crate trick, which he didn’t know about, and got to the baron a few mins before him. On the way out he whispers me “OMG, the mount dropped” and a “:p” a few secs later. I reset and do a second run, he tells me hes fed up with the waiting for “additional instances” and ports to Dalaran.

I get to the baron and the mount drops. In between two BoP blues, the reins wait for me. I whisper the pala “OMG” and link the mount. He assumes Im kidding (cant blame him) and I link my achievement (which he assumes I faked). I port to Dalaran and poke him, go outside and mount up. He’s at a loss for words… :-)

I check my stats and Ive killed the baron a total of 8 times… :)

148 runs. No mount. Between some dip@#$% paladin taking the Nighttime axe off me and this, I'm wondering if I'm ever going to have good luck.

Hey you, yeah you reading this. Maybe you are male. Maybe you are named Andy and maybe not. If you are then this will connect with you even more. Keep trying to get this mount and you will get it. And trust me, you know when it will drop. As soon as you kill Baron Rivendare you can feel the energy that it emits. If you have heart problems tell your friend to mail you a picture of his loot window when he got it to train yourself. You will want to be around to ride this mount.

This mount will most likely not be available to get in cataclysm due to Baron moving to Naxx. Blizzard are planning on revamping all the old world dungeons to represent 'the present time' which means Baron will not be in there so therefore his mount will not drop. This could be why this is a feat of strength because it will soon be unavailable to get. So start farming now!

As for my grind, I'm from the Dreadmaul US server and with the auction prices at the moment, each run gives about 150-200g from enchanting mats, patterns etc. Not very bad.

Just started the mount run. Did the hole instance yesterday for achievement and key in 10-15mins. Now that i have the key i guess it'll take max 5mins per run. Don't understand why everyone keeps avoiding mobs? They're not that hard to kill. I'm a lvl 80 feral druid and it takes just 3-4 swipes to kill 15-20 mobs at a time.
Would be so cool to get the mount on my 2nd run :D

Got this mount just this morning on my 48th kill.
Which is kinda lot, considering I got it on 10th kill on my pally, when pally was my main character :)

Advice I can give to all of u farming this mount is don't give up!
I was killing Rivendare 5 times a day, thought it will become too boring if I kill him more then that.
Also I didn't have to wait so that instance becomes resetable again when I was killing him 5 times a day.
I thought of it like a daily, which takes about 45min.

Here is the MAP I was using to kill Baron. Took me about 8-9min for kill and running back to entrance.
I wasn't looting anything, even Baron's blues.
I didn't want to loose time on looting, was focused only on mount!
I lost some money like that but saved nerves and time for other things in game.

Anyway, I'm happy owner of this imba mount now :)
Pair with Bloodbathed Frostbrood Vanquisher that I got yesterday, I got both undead mounts I wanted to ride and I don't think I'll replace them ever.

GL to anyone farming this mount and remember - DON'T GIVE UP! It will drop eventually.

I hate seeing all of the"You can do eet! Don't give up!" comments. They're not new and not very helpful.
Honestly, I gave up several times trying to get this mount. My advice is don't wear yourself out farming Baron. You'll hate yourself and this game if you have terrible luck. Only farm when it's convinient for you and when you feel it would be interesting, not because you have to.
If you do this you'll have a much better time getting the mount and you won't have as much of a headache.
Edit: Also, good for you! You didn't have to struggle to get the mount or you got the mount while not trying to get the mount!
Comments like that don't make people like you more, it's like rubbing salt in a wound. The wound being 1457 Baron kills and no mount.

I'm at 150 runs & jus seen an epic sword drop once but made almost 20k gold from disenchanting blues/greens (i'm Engineer/Enchanter) without selling any runecloths (sending those cloths to my friend & helping him to get Ambassador title),hoping to get this extremely rare mount at 200 runs :)

Warlock here just wanted to add my thoughts about the no pet.

You can do it with a pet or without. With a pet you will probably aggro some stuff and slow yourself down. I tend to go without my pet but I'm Demo spec so I can just pop my felguard out if something crazy happens with Fel Domination. It's very easy to take out the three Ziggaraut bosses, Ramstein and Baron himself without your pet as long as you have good gear and you can crit for about 10k. Again Demo spec helps with this a lot.

I'm up to run 46 with no mount and no sword. After I complete a few other achievements I'll probably hit this harder to try and get the mount before the expansion hits.

So I've been running this more and have tried out a new method to get through in about 10 minutes. Instead of doing frogger like most people tend to do I decided to use force. I'll use my felguard to aggro a nice group then I start using Seed of Corruption on them all. Blows them all up in no time and if another few come in they will die quickly from the blasts and felguard damage. Works out really nice for me.

Alright, so I found a neat thing out from running my method as stated in the last edit. If you don't want to loot thing in the instance that you kill then don't. By the time your run is over and you go to walk out you'll notice all the bodies are gone but you might have a few stragglers. Those guys have the items worth selling or just having in general. These things will always be blue or higher value.

Doing this I have now decided to kill everything on that side of the instance up to the baron. I'll loot the stuff I just recently killed, usually aboms for the stitching's and whatnot and upon walking out I'll find at least one or two blue items. I've managed to get this stuff so far.

Works well I'd say for people who don't want to loot everything and might just want to get the good stuff out of it. So if you aren't using the Diamonds for anything you can always sell them. Current price on my server is about 300g for diamonds...

So I'm almost at 100 kills and wanted to post again for some good luck. I've managed to get about 5 diamonds, 2 Epic drops and Barons sword. Here's to you Baron!

Got it on my 28th run so I know I got extremely lucky.
I found out a few things why going through strath:
a) Its a very good thing to be a disenchanter, just disenchant all the blues and the greens
b) Skip as many mobs as possible, as this will make you able to do more runs in less time
c) Use the back entrance
d) When you get to the last house (where Baron is in) pull all those abominations outside to the door and kill them there. Now wait for the doors to open, and walk in. That way you will save a lot of time too.

I've tried farming for this in the past, but no luck, so I gave up.

Yesterday I went boosting my 45 rogue friend and it dropped on the first Stratholme run together! She must have been my lucky charm. My armory reported it was my 19th kill of the boss when the mount dropped. Never saw the sword, though.

I ran this for years and JUST got the mount yesterday. I think it helps that they nerfed it a little. I did get a couple BoE epics of the first skele mobs in the first room. I go in the service entrance and kill the mobs in the first room. I keep my pet away so i can bypass adds, then when i get all the mini bosses done and run into the gated area with the big ugly ghouls (who drop that nasty thread stuff that is BoP that i never understood its use) then I pop out my Felguard, keep him on passive, run around dotting them all with CoE then turn into demon form and immolation aura them all down and let my Felguard help. I really never thought I would get it and it was my last run for the day. It dropped and I screamed like a nutcase. It does still drop! Some told me that it didn't anymore. After its nerf, I didnt run it too much. It only took me about a total of 30-36 runs. I started one day doing about 10 runs a day and the third day I got it. It really is an awesome mount. Now if only I could get the damn Ashes of Al'ar! Good Luck All! And happy farming!

Just got this mount. Dropped on my 10th run. Much easier to get than the more than four months it took to get the Raven Lord. It helps that this instance can be done repeatedly, up to 5 times an hour, with resetting.

I was fairly new to the game, I just got my main character up to the level where I could make a DK. I set her up, got her out of the DK scene and joined a guild where we ran the dungeon. I had never heard of this mount but it dropped, I hit greed like everyone else, and got it. I had no idea how rare it was and the people in the guild were flailing at me. XD

A little tip if you are farming this on a Death Knight.

Instead of running out of the instance you can use your Death Gate and fly from Ebon Hold back to the instance.
(It took me 1 min and 20 secs to get from Rivendare's room back to the portal without Glyph of Death Gate and On a Pale Horse)

When i ran out it took 1 min and 45 secs (My only speed boost was Unholy Presence)
