Eh if your team knows what to do, you can easily do this regardless of your class. It also helps if the opposing team is... noob. We've had mages walk the flag and then capture it w/o even getting into a fight...

You can actually complete this acvhievement by having someone else carry the flag for you. As long as you don't die, and cap all three flags you will complete it.

This achievement is obviously easier for some classes than others (ie. druids and shammies); however it seems quite doable by any class. You'll get some games which are completely dominated by the other team, some which are even, and some where your team totally dominates - those are the games where the 'weaker' flag runners can get their Ironman achievement.

Personally I just completed it on my holy pally - while it's not the worst running class, it's certainly no druid or shammy. Basically, I equipped my Nifty Stopwatch and started flag running - using the stopwatch on the second attempt as I was set upon at the end of the tunnel. It works extremely well; speed boots through the tunnel, Hand of Freedom, and Nifty Stopwatch to your own.

If you're serious about completing this achievement, I'd invest in some Swiftness Potions. They're cheap (in terms of mats; the actual pots tend to sell for higher), and obviously help you get the flag away from the enemy quicker. Free Movement/Action potions are also pretty good if you have no way to break snares (outside of your trinket, and with how much CC there is in the game chances are it'll be on cooldown when you need it most).

In any case, this is an achievement which is doable by all, and I must admit it was a lot of fun yelling in guild "I AM IRONMAN" as I ran the third flag in.

Had no idea this achievement was around until I actually go it today. Naturally it was a lot easier for me (Prot warrior, 6/8 T6) and the healers on my team were quite capable.

Best moment was probably on my 3rd run back, which I now look back at, and realize the Hordes probably wanted to break my streak. I had no less than 15~20 debuffs on me (dots, poisons, you name it, I had it) and was quite funny seeing all the healers in a pug coming to my rescue :)

I just did this, really easy ^^
I took two flags from their base, but then a Shaman of my team took it.
I asked him to give me flag, and he gave it in horde tunnel.
Then i scored, and I had 3 without dying

PS: I had two healers with me all the time ^^

I got this little beauty today on my 56 rogue. Kind of ironic, who thinks of a female gnome as an "ironman." Considering that 7 of their 10 players were DKs, and I didn't get death gripped once while carrying, I'm lucky d-:

I also got quick cap that same game, thanks to speed boot sprint speed boot combo.

This Achievement is not quite as difficult as some might think because you do not have to run the flag all the way from the enemy flag room yourself - you only need to be the one capping it. Even though it does feel better to score the Achievement by running it the whole way yourself, you could get someone else to run the flag and hand it to you right at the end.

If you are looking to do this Achievement, make sure you get the first cap without dying. After that speak to your team and let them know you want to get the Achievement. Most players are willing to help out - and it does add focus to a battleground when everyone is working towards such a goal. And remember - what goes around comes around. If someone else asks for help - help them. Sometimes people don't even realise that they could go for Ironman after getting the first cap - or are too shy to ask for help. It doesn't hurt to ask for the groups help on their behalf.

If you are a regular in the Battlegrounds you will soon notice that there are many other "regulars". Helping other people to get achievements like this one is a great way to win the respect of everyone in the PUG and to get them to help you when you need it!

I got this achievement on my twink hunter Rigel, in the same battleground as Quick Cap and Warsong Expedience. Needless to say the horde team was not up to the task, and the whole effort went uninterrupted. I just wanted to point out that this one can be achieved on any level. One of my pug's even helped a lvl 11 get this achievement, after it was clear, the horde were no match for us.

Achieving this as a mage is difficult, especially in Wrath of the lich king. I mean, Wrath of the burst king. I've done this, and quite a few other WSG achievements on my mage and I found this suprisingly the easiest to complete.

I suggest, if you want this easy and money isn't a problem, respec to something like this:

You can get all flag running/capture achievements for wsg and do some defending ones and attacking ones in Arathi Basin.

Using the spec I linked, make sure you save nova until you really need it. CoC is a awesome slower and should be used well. If you are familiar with warriors, use your 'armors' as stances. Mage armor reduces casters attacks by a significant amount and swap between Ice/Molten armor for melee or hunters depending on what you prefer.

To get to the flag go up via the tunnel and take a right to go up on the roof, from there you can see the graveyard. Once horde has spawned, count 30 seconds, if horde spawns when you hit 30 start counting again, once you hit 5 seconds into a rez, slowfall down from the roof and pick the flag (Glyph of slowfall will help save feathers). My mage is engineering, once I had the flag I used a bomb to stun for 3 seconds and ran off, CoC is a nice alternative, try to make them panic, having them use their trinkets early is awesome.

Run directly down the tunnel,

If speed proceed straight forward, don't stop until you hit home. You can get some seriously insane fast caps if you get speed at the start, followed by a blazing speed proc and a speed at the end, I once got a /w asking if I was speed hacking from a fellow team member because it was so quick.

If there was no speed, don't worry. Keep Icebarrier up and stop anyone from getting close to you.

Other than that advice, its all really self explanatory.

I acquired this achievement recently in the levels 60 - 69 group. I wasn't twinked, merely levelling up and was totally unaware the achievement existed. As I was probably rather lucky, I would recommend you to posisbly leave a friend at the flag, so it is captured immediately then the flag can be handed over to you.

Done it for a guild member with a premade.
We had 5 people defending in the middle of the battleground and 5 people, including 1 healer, going for the flag.
The person who got the achievement was a warlock.
This was done around 2 weeks after wotlk came out, so none of us were great geared.

Spirit of the Wind and Skull of Impending Doom no longer work in wsg. The blood shard buffs are wiped as you enter the bg and the off hand item makes you drop the flag.

On testing Skull of Impending Doom... it does make you drop it. BUT if you use it before you pick up the flag it still works. The debuff ticks do not make you drop it, only the initial use of the item.

Done it some days ago in a pug grup,no premade, managed to take the first 2 by myself and the 3d was taken my some1,my luck was that i was Leader and asked the m8 to gif me the flag for the ach,cool felow. Trinket, and some swift potions helped 2.
For all plate clases i sugest to go in gear tank if possible.

If you're specifically going for this achievement, make the investment. Wear pvp gear for stamina and resilience, and buy swiftness potions. When I was going for this as a warlock I always started out with my Voidwalker and Demon Armor instead of my usual bg setup. Always be the first one out the gate.

A good achievement to attempt at the same time is Quick Cap. But, make sure you only attempt Quick Cap if you know your team has control of the middle. Grabbing the speed boosts and running away from your team into a group of enemies outside the tunnel would be counterproductive to both achievements.

Well I did this on my priest in a pug group. had to pick flag all the way the 3 times. was hard as hell. respecced holy just to pick up "Body and Soul" and placed speed increase gem and enchant. also used some swiftness potions. a lot of luck was definitely involved in it. Felt like a serious achievement by the time I got it

Did it 3 hours ago in a pug group as horde priest. It was a combination of luck + gear , you just need to stay away from the main group that are fighting in the middle and tell the other players to help you if needed . Next on my list is Quick Cap :) that will be a challenge.

I was about to get this archivement two times but in both of them after having said "please let me get the archivement by letting me capture the last flag" a mother@#$%ing night elve hunter captured the third ignoring my whispers and saying "I need it too" or just changing aspect of the pack to the cheetah and leaving me behind. They were two different noobs.

Think there's something wrong with this achivement right now. This is the second time I capped three times (This time I only died once in the entire match, a Warrior got me after I capped the second flag and my Treants were down) and... nada. This is really fustrating as I'm already having a death warrant being a Druid not to mention a BALANCE Druid running it but yeah.

Hope whatevers stopping it triggering gets fixed soon :/

Not sure why you think something needs to be fixed - the text clearly says "without dying", and you indicate that you died after the second cap.

I got this achievement yesterday with no issues, so I'm quite sure it's not broken at the moment. Based on how I got it, I would suggest the following if you want to get this achievement:

Get a decent level of PvP gear. Seriously. People going in to try this wearing just PvE gear are only losing the match for everyone as their 17k health pool will get bursted down in seconds by the first pack of opponents they meet, usually followed up by the other team capping the flag. Try to get to 600-800 resilience depending on your armor class, and a solid health pool (20k unbuffed is pretty much the minimum imho). Yes you can get lucky and get it in PvE gear, but you'll spoil the game for others while doing so and ^&*! people off. If you want to get PvP achievements, take PvP seriously. The only exception I can imagine to this is if you're a well geared tank and bring your own dedicated healer.
Be assertive. Once you get to a decent PvP gear level, any class can be a flag carrier. Being a healer helps, if you're not, make sure you bring one. But don't take the flag unless you've got enough people with you to take care of the defenders in the flag room, if any.
Get lucky. You'll have a hard time getting this achievement in a WSG that's being played defensively. The best situation is a match where most people are brainlessly fighting in the middle: go well around them, grab the flag, run back to your own flag room and hope the opponent's flag capper is less skilled/geared than you and gets killed by the people fighting in the middle.

I never thought I'd ever get Ironman. I tend to think that if I have the flag somethings gone wrong :)

But I was determined to try, and announced in /bg that I would really like to try for it and hopefully everyone could help. It's was actually really heartwarming to see random strangers running with me, protecting me and efficiently returning our flag.

The last flag was the most difficult, I came close to death many times but I had 2 amazing mages at my side and managed to turtle the many waves of ret paladins! So yay for random strangers! You do meet nice people in battlegrounds after all!

The moral of the story... If you don't ask you wont get :)

So i was reading threw some of the comments posted before me. and a lot of people are claiming that diffrent classes have harder times getting this achievment. all classes have there strengths and weaknesses its just a matter of specing right and playing to your strengths.

Here is how i got the achievment as a lvl 80 ice mage in a random pugged group.
(this method requires a little bit of luck.)

1) dont be the first person to grab the flag. they will have a def. team and as a mage you dont have much to defend with. rather run up top and wait for the flag to be returned because the first person to grab it 80% doesnt make it out of the tunnel. and if he does usualy doesnt make it half way down the feild with out considerable help.(this is where the luck comes in. sadly you are relying on your team to fail)

2) as a mage ice has alot of Def. talent that you should pick up. Permafrost increase effectiveness and duration of chill effects, frozen core reduce all magic dmg taken, ice barrier and cold as ice to reduce the CD as well as shatter ice to stop any melee fallowing you, arctic winds reduce chance to be hit by 3% chilled to the bone again reduced speed of all chilled targets, and Deep freeze to imobilize. i would also spec points into arcane shielding arcane fortitude and magic absorption.

3) how to use your spells. (no you dont need potions or fancy trinkets)
DONT WASTE YOUR BLINK. blink is a very powerful escape tool. save it for when you get rooted or stunned. blink will get you out of these. but wait what about sap or immobilized use your ice block it will break the CC and refresh the CD on Blink and with cold snap can be use more then once per run. now that we know how to escape CCs how to aviod DMG simple Keep up mana shield and ice barrier at all times. make sure to keep your gems ready and potions if nessicary if your only using mana for Def. you shouldnt run out.

4) the paths you should take. this will very greatly depending on your server and the group. but alwasy take the path least fallowed i perfer to fallow the tree line in the east side of the feild plenty of cover to prevent being easily seen and alof of objects to block line of sight. this isnt a juggernaut achivement this is a ninja achievment you have to use your head. altho ice mages are some of the hardest classes to kill being they can freeze from 40 yard with ice elemental and they can drop target with mirror images and having two bubbles your still squishy so play it safe and play smart. remember you have to carry all 3 with out dying.

i hope this helps any mage out there trying. my name is Pentsui i play on exodar server if you want to look me up. i did this in a pug group. with out having to ask other players in group to help or rely on gank tactics or over powering simply used the talents of my char and some quick thinking.

Wow, that's a great experience.

I had a good one tonight, but it was a little different. Seemed like a lot of our team was randomly fighting mid-field, so I ran straight to the flag and grabbed it. Ran into a death knight teammate on the way out that said, "give me the flag", followed by "dude", followed by, "you're going to get merked", then finally with "i've got 10k health". I just kept running... figured I would ghost wolf soon as I exited the tunnel, which I did. Thought the DK was right when they ganged up on me, but thankfully I had a great pally healer right with me. Got near home base and had a 1-on-1 fight, but took the guy out fairly easily. Next two times, I had no trouble at all. The team seemed to come together, and they ended up fighting right at the horde's graveyard, making my job easy. I had a random healer with me part of the time, but didn't need them thanks to my great team keeping the other side busy.

Right before I popped the flag down that third time, I had to ask, "what does merk mean?" The guys got a laugh from that, and someone said, "pwn, kill" and that was it. No crying, no whining, no laughing at me because I didn't know the term. Just had a great team.

.This acheivement isn't really that hard. Its all about knowing ur class. I didnt even need to ask. As soon as my team saw i had 2 flag carries they just helped me on the last 1 if u know how to play ur class. I did this on my lvl 30 mage with no heals. Now i didnt used potions but they are a must if u dont no how to play ur class. GOOD LUCK!

A short guide for low lvl (16-29) druids who want this achievement:

In the 10-19 bracket the only threat to you is hunters, everything else you can outrun. The trick to good flag running is avoiding attention for as long as you possibly can. You'll be the first in the base of the other team thanks to Travel Form. Put up Rejuvenation and Nature's Grasp before you go Bearform and pick up the flag. Run straight outside and do a small sidestep (this is to refresh your position to the server, allowing you use Travel Form much sooner). Run throught the graveyard while you pray the other team won't respawn on top of you. Hold to the right and use the terrain to keep out of sight, often you can get to your own half of the BG before the other team notices you and then you'll be safe, nothing can catch you outdoors.

Once you reach the next bracket things change a bit as people got mounts. If you're working on pvp achievements in general and got a bit of heirloom gear you'll probably be specced feral. In the 10-19 bracket nobody could catch you outdoors, now nobody can indoors (assuming you specced Feral Swiftness as any pvp'ing feral druid should). Now the tunnels are better options, especially when you reach your own side. I still have a higher succes ratio going through the opponents graveyard.

To lose your only true threat in this bg use shapeshifting and moonfire. Hunters will be dazed if damaged in aspect of the cheetah. If they're chasing you simple swap to normal form, moonfire and swap back. Take your time to throw up a rejuvenation too if you find the need.

Hope this will help some people getting the achievement (unless you happen to play Horde on Grim Batol - EU, if you do please disregard this).

Regardless of what others say, this is still a difficult achievement. Not one death for the whole bg, and all 3 flags means you more or less have to be the centre of attention for that whole match :P. Gl finding people nice enough to help you out with it. I only ever completed this once on my 79 warlock with 2 resto druids spam healing me the whole way!

I just did this today on my 80 human ret paladin. PvE spec, PvE gear, over 27k HP when buffed with Kings. I had no speed trinkets and only have one point in Pursuit of Justice. Each time, I ran it straight down the middle of the field for the flag cap.

I had a few things go in my favor:

1. Nobody on my team had any interest in taking the flag. Heck, -I- didn't have any interest in taking the flag. But someone's gotta bite the bullet, right? Thankfully, there were teammates that were more than willing to run with me, which brings me to...

2. The Horde opponents were some of the most inept I have ever encountered. Their flag carriers got no protection. Nor did they once attack me in a group. It was always one of them vs. two or three of us.

3. The time of day may have benefited me as well. I don't imagine that the quality PvPers are bouncing around WSG at 7 AM server.

So for me, anyway, it was a perfect storm of just the right conditions that enabled me to collect this achievement that I wasn't even shooting for. I imagine others have and will luck into it as I did.

I got this last night, Sep 1, 2010. Survival Hunter. I also dinged revered with Silverwing Sentinels on the first cap :)

I had the same experience as BubbleFett just above me. Incredibly, the Horde were totally inept. They made one attempt at capping the Alliance flag, and their FC got killed midfield. The entire Horde stayed in the center of the field the whole game -as did most of the Alliance.

I usually run to the FR first thing, to escort any FCers. When I got there, there were only me and a druid. I waited a moment for the druid to go feral and grab the flag...then he went into tree form. We didn't have time to discuss it, but I knew what the deal was going to be. I grabbed the flag, and we ran unopposed the length of the field. I was astonished. That NEVER happens.

After dropping off the flag, the druid and I mounted up and ran back for a second run. Again, we ran completely unopposed the length of the field. I think the Horde were giving up after the first cap.

The third time, we had a little opposition - very little. I dropped us out of Aspect of the Pack, managed to Wyvern Sting one guy, hit Deterrence, and dropped traps. The druid got tangled up with a Horde or two, but I just ran like hell for the Alliance FR. The druid caught up with me again as I neared the FR, I was glad to see he lived.

Three caps. I've been playing since release, and have maybe three caps altogether before this experience. Many, many thanks to Zylan of Bloodhoof. I wish more Alliance players knew what the object of WSG is.

Just got it on my level 27 paladin! I said in chat i would like to try the achievement and a great priest Gestro Turalyon offered gladly to help, didn't use any running enchants pots or even speed buff we just worked as a team!
Was great ty to all the strangers and especially Gestro!

The best tip for this achievement, if you're not doing it in a group of friends would be:
Be nice to people, ask for help from healers and others, if someone got the enemy flag faster than you, ask him to drop it because you're doing an achievement, don't be rude and people will help you.

Made it today on a lvl 85 human protection paladin in ilvl 352 armor, few PvE stuff, no speed enhancements aside from the talented and a huge luck with LFG. Our group had 2 healers, a druid and a paladin (rather poorly geared). I ran forward with really good hunter and death knight, while the rest of group held the ground in the middle. First two caps were easy with virtually no interference, and enemy carriers were managed quite efficiently. Then I announced that I'm going for Ironman, and the group was (suprisingly) very supportive for it.

I suppose Horde didn't have healers and had a severe tunnel vision this time.

Thus I totally agree with the comments above: it's all about talking to people and, unfortunately, luck.

I got this on my hunter in the 70-74 bracket the other night. I always try for it, but usually dont survive the first flag cap. Got the first flag with out dying then told everyone I was gonna go for it. Found out a good place to turtle is the small room on the second floor past the ramp. 2 entrances forces them to either go at you from the front, or jump down from the roof. I did have two amazing resto shammies that were able to keep me alive with 3 stacks of the debuff before the final cap.

Of course equally important is to have some well-geared and skilled allies who are dedicated to finding and eradicating the enemy flag carriers. I was absolutely gutted the other day when a guy in our band was soooo close to ironman - had the 3rd flag and was sitting in our flag room, but the opponents who were soundly beaten decided to be arsehole turtles and hid our flag. I found them with like 30 secs left, popped everything I had and just had my last special coming off cooldown with the flag carrier barely alive, and we ran out of time. That sucks.

I just got it on my third paladin, which is the only class I've ever got it on.

First Paladin:
Level 70 'Twink', had about 24K HP unbuffed in prot, managed to get Wrecking Ball and Ironman in the same BG due to massive overpoweredness of Prot pallies in 4.0.3 (No CD WoG, Huge AS hits, etc). Other team was pretty terrible.

Second Paladin:
Don't know how I managed this one. I had just started the toon a new realm, I had close to no gear in Ret, but managed to get it in 15-19 bracket. Don't remember the exact circumstances of this one...

Third Paladin:
First battleground at level 10, decked out in BiS gear with 1K hp in Ret, quickly ran the flags while my team pseudo-farmed the opposing graveyard. Asked one or two people to pass the flag(s) onto me, and they did so gladly.

The only way to get Ironman without much fuss is to have:

a) 1+ very competent healers, and DPS to peel.

b) A team able to farm their GY, locking them down and allowing you to run flags freely. Saying, "I'm going for ," after your first or so flag cap is quite beneficial to avoid misunderstanding.

a couple funny things you guys have mentioned that was not true yet i still have ironman. my team didnt have a clue what to do(well i had one priest healer who did know, the other healers didnt) the enemy team was very powerful, i had no potions whatsoever. i also did really cool things while carrying the flag because i returned our flag 2 times while still holding there flag and getting attacked.

so basically i somehow owned lol! ^^

I was lucky enough to find a group willing to help me get this achievement in a random battleground que. I count my self doubly lucky, because the other team didn't seem to think that me having the flag wasn't a bad thing, so they pretty much just let me walk across the field unscathed. i must say, being an engineer with previously mentioned potions or items helps a lot, as you can use your rocket belt for a little getaway and it's a nice combo when paired up with a parachute cloak attatchment if you're unable to leave the enemy flag room through their tunnel.

Got this achievement this morning on my 85 Troll Frost Mage.

Also got the Quick Cap Achievement on one of the run-backs.

It was a case of our team just completely dominating the other team, and it looked like at least one afk (everytime i ran to the flag room there was a mage with it's elemental out just standing there. Never made a move for me.) Our team kept them pinned pretty much to their graveyard most of the game.

Only real challenge i encountered was on 2nd run back. There was a hunter harassing me with a monkey-pet. Got me down to about 50% health, but i just kept my shields up and kept slowing/freezing him and his pet in place. When i got to our tunnel i threw my ring of frost up at the entrance and that was that.

They made a couple of half-hearted attempts to grab our flag, but it seems like my team had it all under control. They really deserve all the credit. I couldn't believe i was able to get the achievement!

Just got this achievement. It's without a doubt one of the hardest achievement in the PvP area, or at least it was for me, as a warlock. Many times I have tried it but could never cap more than 1 flag, mostly because of my team wasn't coordinating well or the opposing team was just too damn strong.

In my last fight however, it just happened, I grabbed the flag first, and my teammates stayed to protect me till I capped. I asked whether I could try and even though a death knight had already gotten it, he was more than willing to give it to me. I capped two of the flags without a problem, despite the Alliance's attempts to get ours. The only real problem was third flag, which Alliance stormed at us. But no problem; my healer was dedicated and the rest decided to do what Horde does best; whoop ass. So on I went, with the cheers of my unknown teammates on my back and a big gratz from them when I got the achievement. So I thank you my friends, who allowed me and helped to take this very difficult achievement.

To sum it up, it's possible to achiev this even in PUGs, all you need is luck and such good teammates I had. The only piece of advice I can offer you is not to take the speed boost if you are being protected by 3 or more teammates. It will make it harder for them to reach you (they have to pause to mount and all that) unless you are going for Quick Cap. Good luck to you all trying to get this!
