Not only should fisherman have this skill already, it should be a Dual-Find skill. It's a secondary skill anyways, like if Blizzard's going to put in Find Food for your Cooking or Find Cloth for your First Aid?

So i wen't to Windshear Crag after i looked up a good place to find the Weather-Beaten Journal and i fished there for 3 hours. I only found 4 schooner wreckages and the rest were oil spills. The oil spills rarely drop the trunks so it isnt worth going there in my opinion. After that, i wen't to Stranglethorn Vale. Just go along the west coast and there are a bunch of wreckages and i got about 2 trunks per wreckage. It only took me maybe 10 minutes after i went to STV. Good Luck!

I picked this up in about 5 minutes. Just south of Grom'gol off the coast of Bloodsail Compound, I found an "Abuntant Firefin Snapper School" and fished up 3 Mithril Bound Trunks from it. It was in the first trunk I opened.

I got mine off the coast of Southshore, near the murlocs. I was simply leveling my fishing and I was getting more junk boxes than fish...

So many boxes in fact, it was pure annoying.

Has anyone ever found one after they already had the ability to find fish? i got my first one real fast (before i even knew about them in-fact) and thought those must sell real well but i cant seem to get a 2nd one for the life of me and i been fishing alot! Fishing: 225 at lvl 20 i mean alot Lol

went to the blackwolf river in Stonetalon and I got the book in less then like ten mins. It also wasnt crowded with everyone trying to do quest or farming out there

As Silikon said, you can infact get this book pretty much anywhere that you are doing your fishing. Just not from major citys like IF/SW/Org/UC etc. It's not really just from one spot, got mine on my rogue in Zangermarsh at Serpent Lake, and it was out of a crate.

But I am finding it to be a little bit harder to get on my warrior second time around... Love you blizzard! -_-

Edit: After fishin up about 35 crates, i finially got my book! yay!

Stranglethorn Vale. Fished one Bloodsail Wreckage on the western coast and the first thing out of it was a mithril bound trunk with the book inside.

I got the ability once on my warrior,was leveling fishing and got it from 2-3rd time.Now i was leveling my rogue and i went to the same place in Stranglethorn Vale at the Savage Coast I think ( at Grom'Gol) and from the first cast in a waterlogged wreckage i got an Iron Bound Trunk i think...i opened it and got the book.So I would recommend to go to the same place...Happy Fishin'!

Went to zanga specifically to try to fish this, flew round looking for pools, took me about 45 mins in the end, and actually got it from a mixed brackish pool in the end, was probably around the tenth crate I landed.

This achievement allows you to find fish like you can find ore if you're a miner or herbs if you're an herbalist. Just choose to "Find Fish" on your minimap search feature, and then go near any body of water. If there is a school of fish nearby, it will tell you. The schools of fish will also sparkle. This allows for more serious fish catching! and the schools seem to last longer...though that may just be my perception.

This achievement was a lot easier than I'd think it would be. I was fishing in Oily Blackmouth schools in The Barrens for no more than 10 minutes, and a trunk appeared. The weather-beaten journal was in it, and now I am making so much gold out of fishing firefin snappers, deviate fish, etc.

i believe in what people say about this achievement how to find the journal, and its not good damn luck its all about strategy..

so what i did was starting from southern savage coast (south of grom gol base) until ruins of aboraz (north-east of booty bay) i hunted all fishing school (staying only in the whole coast) i see and my main target was bloodsail wreckage cause they have the most drop of Mithril Bound trunk!

I did this for like 25 mins hunted all schools of fish and bloodsail wreckage and BOOYAH! journal drop! i said its 99% effort and 1% luck!

Picked mine up in a Curious Crate, which I fished up from a bluefish school in Nagrand (the rivers between Halaa and Garandar). I fished up 2 crates and it was in the first one. Wasn't originally going for it, I was going for the Outland Angler achievement. But hey, 2 birds, 1 stone, no cup, all good.

I got mine out of a waterlogged wreckage a little north of Grom'grol base camp on the 3rd throw. It was in an iron box no the less lol. Only had to fish for about 10 total mins up the coast to this spot.

It is funny because I just got a journal about 5 seconds ago just after looking up how to get this achievement. I got it from a mithril-tight trunk out while fishing in Feralas. I got the trunk from a floating wreckage.

I was looking in my achievement log at my fishing achievements when I noticed this one. Came on WoWhead and looked it up to see where I could get a journal. I decided to go to STV, so I took the zep to Grom'gal and saw a Watterlogged Wreckage right below the zep, so I jumped down. First cast into the wreckage got me an Iron-bound Chest, and in it was the journal! Helps a lot when looking for specific schools of fish. Good luck to everyone trying to find theirs, although it wasn't hard for me!

Got mine in Feralas, along the coast where the boat to Feathermoon Stronghold departs. Got a lot of crates with other goodies in aswell. The spawnrate of schools there is really good. My two cents.

It was of a Oily Blackmouth school, on the second throw. The STV one might be better, but for those on the other island I think Feralas does it too.

i found that the best place is stv i went there and strolled along the west coast i found this after 5 pools of wreackage but make sure u have 100 fishing or u'll have to wait

I found this ability by fishing off the dock in Ratchet with my Warlock in less than 20 min. I took my Hunter back there and never found it fishing over 2 hours. I have maxed out my fishing by looking for this book, even fishing all through the Schooner Wreckage and oil spills in Stonetalon Mountains.

I just got the book in Southshore, at coordinates 71.7 - 10.4. in the river that runs through southshore, a little north of Tarren Mill. It was in a school of sagefish

Took me about 1 minute to get this.

How to:
1. Use to zepplin till STV
2. Find a Schooner Wreckage(Found mine just outside Grom'Gol Base Camp).
3. Fish and open the chests till you get the Weather-Beaten Journal.
4. Click the Weather-Beaten Journal.
5. Done!

Took me about 4-5 trunks some from Firefin snapper pools, some from Schooner Wreckage and one from Oily Blackmouth pool. I got it from the last Schooner wreckage pool in STV along the coast heading west from Grom'gol.

Just spent 45 minutes on this for nothing. Went to STV tried fishing off the coast west of Grom'gol, tried fishing into schools, tried fishing off the jutting out piece of shipwrecks into the waters surrounding them, tried fishing off rocks into wreckages, nothing. No schools, not even any crates that DIDN'T have the journal in it. Just the same three fish, raw rainbowfin albacore, firesnapper, oily blackmouth. What am i doing wrong how are you supposed to "fish into" these wreckages?

I've been flying up and down the coast of Stranglethorn for more than TWO HOURS. Only found one "wreckage", and only got strangekelp from it. I don't get it.

Seems that with the release of cata that the drop rates are better. That being said it took me quite a long flight to find the bloodsail wreckage in STV. On the third cast I had gotten two of the chests that could contain the second weather beaten journal. The second chest was the winner! Which was exciting! However like i said before, finding that wreckage was tough. :/

I got mine doing my fishing daily's in dalaran. When i turned the quest Disarmed! in by Olisarra the Kind <First Aid Trainer> i get the Bag of Shiny Things with the book Weather-Beaten Journal inside

I got several books for my other chars by fishing in Menethil (Wetlands) in the schools that are available near the inn. Just fish up crates, don't open them, just send to your other chars and they might find the book inside (or not of course) :P

I went to STV and headed for grom gol base, despite the fact I was alliance... but for some reason there were none trunks there or fish schools at all. then I walked the line down to booty bay after that I had waited for it without any luck.

from booty bay i took the boat to ratchet and looked there... I fished at the boxes beneath the crane and got a crate, but unfortunately there was no weather beaten journal there.... I then walked the coast line from ratchet to theramore still without any luck.

i did not get it, and decided to go sleep since the clock was 04:28 p.m.
next day i just wanted to train my fishing by doing daily fishing quests... and when I did the kaluaks fishing quest of the day I got it:D I found it in a mixed brackwater school in terrokar forrest in outland.

And the reward bag from the fishing dailies:
Bag of Fishing Treasures given by Old Man Barlo (Outland fishing dailies).
Bag of Fishing Treasures given by Marcia Chase (Dalaran (Northrend) fishing dailies).
Bag of Shiny Things given by (Alliance)Catherine Leland (Horde) (Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdom (All Vanilla main cities) fishing dailies).

*Note: Since 4.1 there have been more fishing and cooking dailies for the old main cities but you can still only complete 1 a day to receive a Bag of Shiny Things.

I went up and down the coast of STV several times, but i only found one wreckage. of course, no journal. so i decided to start fishing out of schools of firefin or blackmouth, hoping that they would respawn as wreckage. to my surprise, i fished an iron-bound trunk out of 2 different schools. the second one actually had the book. so it can indeed be fished out of a school of fish!

On my main I found some bloodsail debris in booty bay as soon as I began looking for the achievement before cataclysm but I've made an alt after cataclysm and I can't find anything but firfin and blackmouth schools.

In Hope of Saving Others Some Time:

I found schooner wreckages all along the south point of Wild Shore (The Cape of Stanglehorn /STV) around 41.0 / 86.5.
There were about 2 to 3 Mithril Bound Trunks out of each wreckage. I had to fish at 4 wreckages before the book dropped. It took approximately 10 minutes.

Just for information, I found no wreckages along the west coast line of the cape. I also fished from pools of fish and only got Iron Trunks which only yielded coin, leather and bolts of cloth.

Maybe I'm just real unlucky....but after several curious crates in zangar yielded no journal, I flew on over to STV after reading this post. Not only am I not fishing up any crates, but I can't even find a wreckage! I've flown over the entirety of the STV coast and not one wreckage...any advice? This is weird and quite frustrating

I got my weather-beaten journal from a mithril bound trunk by booty bay in the pirate part. i fished it up from a bloodsail wreckage. In all it took me 10 minutes. I also got mageweave cloth 2 patterns leather for LW and a healing potion.

Also when you are there you should talk to the guy who sells tailoring supplies at his last page he sells a thing called an admiral's hat. Once you buy it, it wont spawn for another day or so. You have to be 240 tailoring it looks like a pirate hat. If you sell the pattern you can get atleast 150 gold

Thought I would add this little... trick couldn't see it posted at first glance.

When fishing this book it tends to be in a tradable container. so if you turn off auto loot have a peek inside the box with out looting it you can send it to alts/mains friends or even sell them but beware some people will obviously be skeptical about buying these boxes. - it is also possible to open the boxes and take all the contents and leave only the book

If you already have find fish and plan on using this method to find one for an alt it wont work. they de-spawn from the box when looted/opened by someone with Find Fish already learnt. the same if you find it in a box on an alt with out find fish then send it to an alt with find fish you will get some error text and the book will vanish.

While I was fishing an Oily Blackmouth School in the Wetlands I fished up an iron bound trunk. When I opened it I received a weather-beaten journal with the use "Teaches you the fine art of fish finding". Requires fishing (100). I right clicked on this book and received the achievement (Fish Don't Leave Footprints). I also obtained on my little mini-map the option to Find Fish.
