Formerly the location of the Sunwell, this is the isle containing Magisters' Terrace and Sunwell Plateau. Additionally it is the site of the Shattered Sun Offensive's headquarters, Sun's Reach.

The isle can be accessed through flight paths from Silvermoon City (Horde-only), Ironforge (Alliance-only), Light's Hope Chapel in the Eastern Plaguelands (neutral), and Hatchet Hills (by Zul'Aman) in the Ghostlands (also neutral) - at level 70, any player automatically knows these flight paths.

Additionally, after participating in a server-wide event on the island - essentially completing lots of daily quests until the Sun's Reach Sanctum is recovered - a new quest, Intercepting the Mana Cells, becomes available. When this has been completed enough times, a portal will be established from Shattrath City directly to the isle.

Sunwell Loot is considered Tier 6.5 much like AQ40 was Tier 2.5.
Also Tier 6 is being expanded to 8 pieces with the new 3 pieces dropping in the Sunwell.

The Isle of Quel'Danas is the location the Sunwell, from which the blood elves once drew their power until it was corrupted by Arthas (who used it to resurrect Kel'Thuzad). The remaining energies of the Sunwell exist as Anveena. Kael'thas Sunstrider has reignited the Sunwell in preperation for the arrival of Kil'jaeden.

Horde and Alliance players may fly here from Silvermoon City and Hatchet Hills (outside Zul'Aman), respectively. Neither flight path needs to be discovered at level 70.

The Isle also houses the Shattered Sun Offensive, the forces of the Sryers and the Aldor (finally) united against Kael'thas. Players may complete daily quests to aid the Offensive in retaking the Isle from Kale'thas, the Wretched, and the Burning Legion.

The Isle of Quel'Danas is the first outdoor zone to be implemented via patch. It is reachable by flight paths from adjacent regions, though these flight paths aren't available to low level characters.

The Isle of Quel'Danas and the Sunwell Isle were originally seperate locations in the lore, with Quel'Danas being the home of the high elven dragonhawk hatcheries. They have been combined into a single island, the layout of which appears to be modeled loosely on the Isla Nublar from Jurassic Park.

Players will band together with the Shattered Sun Offensive, completing daily quests and infiltrating the Magisters' Terrace (5-man instance) and the Sunwell Plateau (25-man raid) in order to reclaim the island. Similar to the AQ war effort, as quests and objectives are completed, the Shattered Sun Offensive will progressively retake the island, simultaneously unlocking new content.

to clarify the "instanced" section, yes indeed they are on a seperate mapping section, you can verify this yourself by going to the north of eastern plaguelands, you will be confronted with a white instance portal that you must travel through to get to the ghostlands

alternatively

when flying from lights hope chapel to zul aman or tranquilien you will be flown through this portal and receive a load screen

There is a daily quest available in Shattrath City (Intercepting the Mana Cells) to help create a portal to the Isle. Once the portal is completed, it can be found in the cove behind G'eras.

Some relevant lore: The Isle of Quel'Danas was settled by refugee Highborne, who there established a fount of untold power with water stolen from the Well of Eternity. They created the Sunwell, an unrivaled source of arcane power instrumental in constructing the magnificent city of Silvermoon. The elves lived in relative peace for some 7,000 years until the Second War touched Quel'Thalas. The Sunwell was used to guard the High Elves' homeland with the runestones still active today on the borders, and they emerged mostly unscathed from the conflict.

As the events of the Third War escalated and Arthas Menethil took up Frostmourne as the Lich King's champion, the elves found that their removed homeland would not escape the Scourge's notice. Arthas sought out the Sunwell's immense power to resurrect his lieutenant Kel'Thuzad, and Quel'Thalas' strongest gates and finest defenders proved insufficent to hold back the waves of undead. This was especially due to the betrayal of a highly placed elf, Dar'khan Drathir, who broke the runestones' power to make way for Arthas' assault. The Dead Scar remains on the isle still as a reminder of the path the undead trod. Arthas and his forces battled their way to the Sunwell itself, and Kel'Thuzad's subsequent ressurection tainted the Sunwell.

In the Sunwell Trilogy, Quel'Danas appeared as did the rest of the High Elven lands: a ruined plain of rubble. However, the Sunwell's might was not lost. It had been given mortal form as a human girl, Anveena, who found her way back to Quel'Danas. She remains there still, though current events have left her in a somewhat compromising position.

When Quel'Thalas was retaken by the Sin'Dorei, Sunwell Isle was also rebuilt, more glorious than before. However, the presence of the Sunwell's power at its original home has drawn many to Quel'Danas. Kael'thas Sunstrider has set into motions plans that not only have unified the Aldor and Scryers, once mortal enemies, against him, but with their culmination might spell doom for all of Azeroth.

the daily quests gives from 7-11,99Gold at level 70, and they're very easy. I good money grinding spot is this isle, doing the dailys, and when they're completed, teleport to shattrath and get all the quests that gives the reward: Shattered Sun Supplies. this will also grant you 150rep with the Shattered Sun Offensive, and 10Gold at level 70.
when they're done, get back to Isle of Quel'danas, and farm the Blood Elfs (if Scryer) or the Demons at the portal (if Aldor)
These mobs have a descent drop chance for signets and marks for rep with aldor and scryer, about 29%, in aditional, they can drop Arcane Tomes and Fel Armaments, wich gives 350rep with your faction (Aldor/Scryer).

You can grind around 130g on quest per day on this routine, and an aditional 20-30g on grey and green stuff.

Btw, in this way did I get my flying mount, and got revered with SSO just in 7 days! and around 3,5k rep with scryer

Daily's here are easy if you have a good idea about what you want to do. Take as many as you can for the places you think your going. Like "Know your ley lines" and "Don't stop now..." both take place near each other and you will most likely run into a naga or two. I prefer to take all the quests on the island when I start playing and turn them in accordingly.

Just to be warned, this is a hazardous place to quest, mainly because it is a very small zone designed for a very large number of players.

For one thing, the mobs in this zone have extremely fast respawn timers, about 30 seconds to one minute. It's pretty common to be surprise attacked by mobs that you or someone else just killed.

People will often run through groups of enemies on their way to turn in quests, ending up with large armies following them, clearing the area the mobs were standing. Any player unfortunate enough to be standing there when all the enemies come back will be in trouble. I call this "sling shotting" mobs.

The Shattered Sun guards here are not your friends. They won't help you fight any mobs that are chasing you. Because of the town's close proximity to the areas where mobs spawn, you can end up with enemies following you all the way into friendly buildings.

EDIT: If a player attacks another player while standing by the guards, the guards will only attack the aggressor if he's in range of the guards. The SS guards aren't like Booty Bay bruisers, who will defend you if you run up to them. They won't kill the victim if the victim doesn't cause any damage in return, but even reactive damage like Lightning Shield or (in my case) Shadowguard will be enough to get you squished.

Finally, because this zone is so small but has so many people, be prepared to spend as much time fending of gank attempts as completing quests.

It's the Isle of Gank'Danas. Don't expect to go there during peak playing times and solo your dailys without being ganked several times. This place is STV but about as big as moonglade with three times the people in it.

Look out for rogues standing in a turn in npc's body while stealthed. If you right click the spot where he is standing you will strike him and immediately be smeared.

And it's common to see 5 to 10 man raids circling the island, killing all red names they see.

The quest keeping the enemy at bay can be a pain. The blood elf mobs on the ships are on an extremely short re-spawn time, probably around 45 seconds to a minute. They will re-spawn before your finished clearing the ship if your not fast enough, dont take the time to eat and/or drink or you'll be surrounded.

at level 70 the big number of daily quests can give you about 150g per day

considering how money enter the game (money drop from looting mobs, and from selling items to vendors ... AH may produce money for yourself but DON'T INTRODUCE MONEY IN GAME be cause the money used to pay for items are first farmed like this by someone) this is the main source of money afaik !

as this is a 70 level area, the question is how things will work after woltk ?

The Isle of Quel'Danas is literally a dead zone now. I often go /who Isle to see if anyone is there, but nothing shows up. Alliance could be there, but the times I have showed up it was just me.

Even though it seems pointless to go there now, there are still a few positive aspects to look at...

- If you are into achievements... Getting exalted with SSO is a reputation achievement.
- This is still by far the best place to get Sunfury Signets. If you are Scryer and looking to grind these marks, the elves on the boats have a great drop rate and respawn very quickly. (Aldor/Scryer also a reputation achievement)
- Even if the gold isn't as great as it was before, you may personally prefer these dailies. Not to mention you have will little to no competition.

Doing every daily quest ON the Isle will give you 37.35 gold.

The Isle of QD represented my favorite place in WoW. It was a pvp zone as well as zone with a bunch of gold to be made daily. I'm always saddened when I visit the Isle occasionally to see it be a ghost town when one time it was thriving with people.

It is possible to get a warlock summon here if you cannot take the flight place (the portal in shat requires level 68). I just had a warlock summon my bank alt here for the lulz and watched everyone attack me and get owned by the guards.

I just was lock-ported to this isle... I walked up to flight master, and although I have the Silvermoon FP, It says that I know no flight locations connected to it.

Low levels, beware! Make SURE that you don't do anything to get yourself stuck there... Unless, in the next few minutes, I find that I actually did have the location and forget to edit this comment.

This was such an awesome place. The Gank Trains, the awesome dailies, even a RAID on it!

Sure there were bad parts (like the daily where you collect the berries in the bushes and the one where you charge the crystal) but other than a few things the whole place just owns any other zone in the game!

Also it was so easy to hit exalted with this. I hit 70 about 4 weeks from 3.0 which was I think a month before LK. It only took me about 5 weeks to hit from Neutral to Exalted!

I wish they revamped this to level 80 so it won't just be for people who can't afford LK.

I think that for a lot of people, Quel'Danas really is the most distinct memory they have left of Burning Crusade.

On the hardcore, bleeding-edge crowd, a lot of people's memories will be drowned out by the terrible tuning of early BC, stuff like pre-nerf Gruul and Mag, but Quel'danas holds Sunwell which most hardcore raiders of the era hold dear. It is still one of the best raids Blizzard has put out (though I think Ulduar gives it a run for its money =D)

On the casual end, people might remember a lot more frustration. Raids that weren't accessible for people who didn't really play that much (generally speaking of course; I played only a couple hours a day and made progression into BT/cleared Hyjal) or might remember Karazhan very fondly. However, this island pushed thousands, maybe tens of thousands or more, over the 5,000 gold hump for their epic flying mounts. That is certain to leave a legacy.

One thing is for sure though; the mix of gold farming, incredibly fun spontaneous world PvP, an epic 5-man dungeon that provided some great loot and challenges, and one of the best raids ever put in game make the Island of Quel'Danas one of Blizzard's great legacies. Certainly a place to remember going into the future, and a model for Blizzard to build upon in future expansions.

I was a little confused about there being a requirement to be level 70 to get the flight path. I was going to fly to Hammerfall but noticed the flight path right away. I'm going as a 66 Tauren Shammie, with 50% experience. I'm Exalted with Silvercity so I'm not sure if that had anything do do with it.

Do not believe any of the rubbish about The Isle of Quel Danas being the best place to mine Adamantite Ore, it is deserted and massively overpopulated with mobs, you can't move without getting agro off some mob. There are 9 nodes, of which, 2 involve a swim out past the three boats you bomb on the bombing run daily quest.

The mining is rubbish.
Don't even bother.

You cannot fly in any Burning Crusade Zones that are on Azeroth, as these places are considered "Instanced." These Zones include Eversong Woods (Silvermoon City), Ghostlands, Azuremyst Isle (The Exodar), Bloodmyst Isle, and the Isle of Quel'Danas. :3 Hope this helps all of you.

During when 'Arthas' was working for 'The Lich King' (Warcraft 3), he ventured to here to find 'The Sunwell', which would return 'Kel'Thuzad' to life, but not Human form. On his journey to 'The Sunwell', he encountered 'Sylvanas' and turned her into a banshe. When she was in the 'Undercity' (the prison of the ruins of 'Lordaeron', she was assisted by other creations of 'Arthas' and they found her body that 'Arthas' locked up to make sure she wouldn't return to her body and they returned her to her body. Through from Vanilla WoW to Burning Crusade, Sylvanas was in her Banshe form, until in Wrath of the Lich King, she was in her High Elf body, but she did not return to her people, she remained as Queen of the Forsaken.

I can confirm that as of patch 4.2.0 it is still possible to summon players lower than level 65 (in this case level 60) by using the Sunwell Plateu meeting stone (located right outside the portal to the raid). Warlocks may also use Ritual of Summoning succesfully. Lastly, Have Group, Will Travel will also work for summoning lower level players.

So I noticed that the Dead Scar here is in line with the Dead Scar on the mainland, in Eversong. Does this mean that Arthas' army trudged straight across the channel to get here? Or was the Isle connected to the mainland at some point?

A quick question from patch 4.3.

I am currently at 18 k revered with SSO.
I have NEVER done a daily.
I've simply run the dungeon lazily up until Kael'Thas since I wanted the mount, pet, bag and the vanity trinket.
So far I've gotten the mount, bag and Orb but still no pet (which is supposed to have the highest drop rate ffs) after 14 heroic runs.
In regard to the phasing going on in Quel'Danas, do you have to do Dailies to unlock each phase or do they just unlock when you achieve honored/revered/exalted ?

No need to uprate my comment just want a quick yes or no answer.

For those of us wondering how the heck do I get back to Shattrath City Now! (Because the Portal is a one way trip...)

Do the daily quest: Know Your Ley Lines given by Astromancer Darnarian in Sun's Reach Sanctum south of the Sun's Reach Harbor.

On completion you will be given Darnarian's Scroll of Teleportation (and 4g40s) as a reward which has 1 charge to teleport you back to Shattrath City.

Darnarian's Scroll of Teleportation apparently stacks in lots of 200!

the Only means of getting back to Shattrath City. vote this up!

also.. need help with formatting. the link for Know Your Ley LinesKnow Your Ley Lines doesn't look right.

Went there on launch day. If you are Horde, just talk to the flight master at Silvermoon and fly there. Level 69's non-elites are Azeroth difficulty. Meaning that they are an easy kill compared to Outland creatures.
Now to run the Instance :)

You can get the quest 'Enter, The Deciver...' from a guy in the center of Shatt. It states,,

" Report to Archmage Ne'thul on the Isle of Quel'Danas, north of Quel'Thalas.

Flightmasters in Ironforge and Silvermoon City will get you to your destination."

So, talk to either of the flightmasters in IF or SMC.

OK THIS IS TO CLEAR THINGS UP

ALLIANCE: to get there you do not have to be 70 (65 will do) you do not need a quest or anything you simply speak to the flight master in IronForge and you will see a new Flight Path going VERY far north, click it and almost immediately you get portaled as if you had just joined an instance - NB: no flying mounts in Sunwell Isle

HORDE: Dunno I assume it's exactly the same but with a hordie flight master

go to the flight master in if....theres a flight path there...i went on my 70 warrior so dunno for sure the level req...since the npcs are 69+..i'd "assume" ya have to be at or near that level...the guy in Shatt is for a quest only...your choice whether or not ya get that i "assume"...I picked it up on the way through to IF from shatt....

For horde in the middle of Shat there's a guy with a quest that sends you to the FP at silvermoon and from there you can fly to the island. As of right now it looks like it's just a bunch of daily quests and the instances. Magister's Terrace is pretty decent, haven't done the other one yet. Launch day was insane, nothing but ganking all over the place, and there is no where to repair on the island, so be prepared to fly back if you have to.

Alliance: When high enough, talk to IF flight master and fly there.
Horde: When hgih enough, talk to SMC flight master and fly there.
You don't need the quest...

I went there as lvl 69 and lead a group of my guild into the 5 man raid. So it is possible to enter as a lvl 69. BUT... it can be quite difficult if you don't have raid/epic gear as a 69 or group as a whole. So my advice would be, become 70, get good gear and have fun!

I understand that this is a competative zone, but i have seen more rudeness in this zone than I have ever seen in the game. I can't count the times I have been fighting a mob next to a mining node only to have someone (same faction mind you) swipe the node while i kill the mob for them. This game is supposed to be about community not every man for himself. I would love to group with other players to complete dailies together instead of having people steal mobs i have targeted. Anyway, just a long timers gripe. If anybody wants to join me for daylies my name is Starkwel..Lvl 70 prot warrior..Norgannon Alliance.

The level requirement is at least as low as 66. I am currently flying there with a char of that level. However, if your server has opened the portal in the center of Shatt for this area, it has a higher level restriction - I wasn't able to use it.

Edit - As of right now, I'm stuck in Quel'Danas until my hearth is up. o o; Apparently, I don't have the flight path connected to this place (...I just flew here, hello?), and it won't let me get out. xD

As a 65 MM hunter, this place isn't a bad place to solo as long as you have food and water.

The level 69 wretched dudes have low HP and they're easy to hit with a gun, and as a MM hunter, I'm successful killing them. Just make sure you take one at a time. But, you can't just kill them willy-nilly, you need to have a strategy to kill them to not suffer death.

1. Send pet in ( make sure to have growl activated so your pet has threat )
2. Begin shooting with viper sting ( use this whenever you can, for this guy casts a deadly nether shock for 700-900 damage. The wretch will only cast this if it has about >400 mana. )
3. DPS the guy down with your aimed shot, multishot, arcane shot etc. etc.
4. At some point one of the following may happen:
a. The wretched guy goes for you
b. The wretched guy casts mana tap on you
c. The wretched guy casts mana tap on you and goes for you

If a. happens, then you have two choices
Plan A: wing clip, then kite with concussive shot and doing some instant shots like auto-shot, arcane shot etc. etc.
Plan B: feign death ( If resisted, go to plan A. )

If b. Happens, then you have two choices based on the mana you have
Plan A: If you have enough mana, Cast silencing shot, then viper sting, hopefully you'll survive nether shock
Plan B: Feign death and let pet take damage.

If c. happens, then you have one choice:
If you are at zilch mana, then run away until you have enough mana to cast feign death.
Substitute: If Feign Death resists, then run! ( Don't worry, this seldom happens to me :P )

Edit: Hunters also have a less challenging choice to grind here:

You can grind the Unleashed Hellions ( Level 70-71 Terrorfiends )

These guys are really easy to kill, and require very little strategy.

1. Send pet in for aggro.
2. DPS with all your shots
3. One of the following may happen:
a. Hellion will cast Rain of Fire at your area. Simply run away and continue shooting
b. Hellion goes for you. If this happens, don't feign death, you will most likely get a resisted. So just kite the hellion with concussive shot then continue DPSing.

I find the hellions easier to grind and their netherweave cloth droprate is greater, but expect to not survive very well.

There are 10 daily quests that can be done on the Island of Quel'Danas.

They give you a nice ammount of gold:

=104, 94 gold

If you have problems getting enough gold you can do these quests once each day.

Demo Warlocks, Hunters, Unholy Death Knights and Frost Mages should be able to do 'em in only a few minutes each at 70.

This does not even include the 10 to 30G you certainly will get from looting either =D

I tried Soloing Magister's Terrace and was utterly crushed by the first 2 guards even with my Demon form (I'm a 70 Demo Human Warlock). You might wanna bring a few friends as pre-WotLK this and Sunwell Plateau these two areas were the places to go to farm gold.

If you have WotLK take note that QT's Blues and Purples are inferior to Northrend's Greens. If you have Tailoring and enchanting like I do you can Dischant everything for mats and enjoy the plentiful amount of Netherweave Cloth for Tailoring and First Aid.

Still, despite the fact that QT and about half of Outland are skipable thanks to NR you can easily grind gold in QT every day until *poof* you have enough money for whatever you want =D

Well for sure you cant get the flight pathfor Isle of Quel'Danas in SMC at level 63.

i am lvl 68 alli - tried to use portal in shatt and said i'm too ow lvl - went to IF flight master and flew - once landing i received the achievement "explore isle of quel'danas" - to leave talk to flight master and fly out or hearth

i have discovered the entire easter kingdoms except for the isle and i am at 62 now and cannot wait to get there and discovere it so is there a way to get there if you are below lvl 65 for horde?

portal in shatt unlocks at 70 when the quests are nice for a swift mount

where on earth is the flight path ive gotten it before but my questhelper says to go to a spot that i dont know how to get to!1?

At 66, I tried to use the portal and was not allowed. The guy that gives the quest will not give it to you until you hit 70.

Therefor you must go to Silvermoon and use that flight path to get to Isle of Quel'Danas.

it turned up for my 40 lock as well. can't use it though, as it says no direct fp to this location or something along those lines. Which is really annoying as its the last EK i need for the chieve.

I spent a lot of time on the Isle of Quel'Danas doing my dailies during TBC, and was wondering whether or not it would be updated at some time. So I asked a GM and he said that it would not be updated in order to provide some content for people who have not bought Wotlk and furthermore the gold received from quests has been reduced to less than a third of the amount of gold received in TBC. Hope this was hopeful to some people.

swimming to the isle doesnt work, i tried it today on my lvl 60 warrior thinking that i would be able to simply ghost run back to my body and continue if i died of fatigue. While i am able to see the outline of the isle in the distance i cannot swim to it, there is some sort of invisible shield about 40 yards past the part where fatigue starts

I have taken the portal from shat however I did not find any flightmaster to fly back to SMC. Guess I have to hearth out?

Great place to farm Mana Thistle by the way, I have 14 and was there for about 15 minutes.

In the chaos of Quel'Danas it's very easy to miss the environmental storytelling. You'll often find the wretched, banished to the outskirts, sleeping, sitting around in small groups or silently staring out to sea, eerily placid until disturbed. Their as yet undiminished brethren further into the island will occasionally cry to themselves, and their interactions with each other indicate they know there isn't much time left for them, one way or another. Cleaning up the last of Kael's forces feels like kicking a dog tbh.
