These are the new prismatic shards of Wrath of the Lich King used in enchants from 365-450.

There will be enchants added for 365 rather then just 375.

you'll have to farm dungeons over and over again in order to d/e the blues so you can get the shards... but yeah, you won't have to run on dungeon 100 times to do it.

Don't forget, the Runed Titaniam Rod will require 8 shards, and the 10 remaining spells that use it are for the high-end enchants that require anywhere from 1 to 6 shards each!

Any blue a Blacksmith can create using saronite will DE into a shard. With a stack of saronite going for about 50g or so this could be an alternative to buying shards or running instances.

To buy all of the enchants you would need to collect 144 Dream Shards, just a FYI for completists.

Blizzard is now changing how enchanting works in 3.0.8. Most of enchants will now require a dream shard, it would be wise to start investing into them right now because they are so cheap.

I've done a little calculations, what to craft to get the most Dream Shards at the cheapest price (and if you can keep some).
Here's what I've got:

20x Brilliant Saronite Belt
120x Cobalt ore (bar) - 200g
200x Saronite ore (100x bar) - 200g
So you've made 20 Belts for 20g / Belt.
Disenchanting gives you 20 shards (~20g / shard on my realm)
So to get my 400g back I have to sell all 20 Dream Shards, so it's not worth it for me. (unless if I were a miner)

20x Deadly Saronite Dirk
280x Saronite Ore (140x bar) - 280g
4x Eternal Air - 28g
This means 15.4g / Dirk -> 20 dream shard
15-16 to sell -> 300-320g (mats)
4-5 dream shard as "profit"

Remember, the prices differ on each realm depending on population, number of miners, farmers and so on. You should check all the prices of these items on your ah. Cobalt ore / bar, Saronite Ore / bar, Dream Shard (if dream shard costs 10g on your server, it might not be worth to do all this stuff, if the other mats are expensive) and Eternal Air.

I suggest you to make a calculation like mine, and you'll see if you should do this or not.
(Take into account that 1x Cobalt Bar = 1x Cobalt Ore, but 1x Saronite Bar = 2x Saronite Ore!)

You can also check what you can bring out of your own profession. E.g. if you're a skinner, making leather things could be cheaper, and more profitable (https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=44440)

I'm an enchanter myself, and I need lots of Dream Shards, and this is a great way to get them.

Edit: Well, these were good at the time of writing, but since random dungeon feature was implemented, prices dropped so don't bother trying to make money this way...

Prices on these on my realm now run around 3-4g, and I can sometimes buy a bunch at 2g.

So why do I see everyone clicking the "disenchant" option in heroics to get a shard from blues that vendor for 8-10g?

Dream Shards and Cosmic Essence are still needed in Cataclysm for the 36 slot Enchanting bag (Otherworldly Bag). Not sure if this will bring the prices up a bit or not.

Actually, Dalaran now has auction spots!

these go for about 10-20g on my server. Not alot of people use the enchants that its a mat for ( see Currency for tab)...however i gather them to buy patterns from the vendor in Dal. Cuz those enchants are actually selling well. so DE blues for em is not dumb...at least, not if u plan on using them like a currency.

One easy way to get Dream Shards is to make and disenchant Black Duskweave Wristwraps using:

Frostweave Cloth x40
Infinite Dust x8
Iceweb Spider Silk x2
Eternium Thread x2
