the chest spawns every three hours, with the first spawn of the day at 12 AM server time, with the subsequent spawns at 3 AM, then 6 AM, 9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM, 6 PM, and 9 PM.

I'm not sure about the despawn time of the chest. I showed up at 09:23 today, and the chest was still there. My guess is 25 minutes, half an hour maximum, but I can't confirm this.

Twinkers often get high lvs to come kill everyone else so that they would get the trinket. in a big server you need to brink a 80 or 2 to get it:/

Short John Mithril does not begin his walk at the :00 mark every 3 hours. In fact, it seems to be somewhat random (again I'm surprised nobody else has made note of this), switching between :57 and :59. So basically, you'll want to get there a little early. As mentioned already, it takes Short John about 2 minutes to do his walk before dropping the chest. Sometimes starting at :57, I've seen him drop it at :59. Don't be one of the late level 80's, who come charging in at the :01 minute to compete for the trinket, to find that it has already been looted by someone (like me) who came early and was ready.

He'll drop the chest once every three hours, on the hour, starting at midnight server time.

To get the chest, you have to be the first player to get to it. There are no NPCs that try to stop you, but once you drop down into the arena, you are automatically flagged for free-for-all PvP; anybody from either faction can attack you (and you them once they step in or attack you). The goal is to defeat any other players also trying to get to the chest. If you're lucky and/or on a low population server, there might not be anyone else trying to get the chest, in which case you've got it easy.

I was STV minding my own business walking to BB to begin my grind to Bloodsail Admiral, when I hear Short John Mithril yell about the chest. It was pretty late/early, so out of curiosity, I ran over to the Arena.
I see the guy running back into the stands and I opened the chest to find the Arena trinket, and I get an achievement in my face!
This is what started me researching the chest and learning the times and converting them to my time so I can get the Grand Master achievement. It doesn't seem hard, you just gotta be quick about it.

this NPC is a parody off Long John Silver. however, he does drop a chest in the floor of the Gurubashi Arena in Stranglethorn Vale. ive never seen anything above lvl 45 (plate bracers). there was a blacksmithing plan for skill level 300 once. the Arena Master trinket is the object of a quest, but you get to keep it. the trinket gives +5 Stamina, and once you get 12 of them there is a daily quest for them, but im not sure if you keep them. they sell for just over one gold. the Arena Master is a 100% drop from the chest. the chest always drups at least 50 silver, and usually good gear. the gear that ive seen is specialized towards a certain class. such as plate for pallys and warriors, i saw a which added a lot of arcane spell power. anyways. i belive that i am drawling on, so to make it short; everyone benefits from getting the chest. lo-lvl: benefits from the $$$. 38-50 benefits from the gear. 80's benefit from the $$$ and the proffesion plans. its a win-win-win

I just came at 12:00 AM ST on Drak'thul server and noticed that for some reason short john mithril, as well as that other npc who gives the daily to duel yourself, are nowhere to be found. I didn't see anything about his removal in the patch notes so hopefully this is just a bug and will be fixed soon

It seems u must have to do some sort of prequest to see him as myself an another player were there at the same time. I was able to see the chest and claim it but ther other player wasn't. I was on my 32 druid questing in STV he was an 85 player. Sudgested maybe u need to do the Zg quests first.

Haha I must have just gotten really lucky... I was just hanging out in Booty Bay when I saw this guy yell about setting out the treasure. I flew over there and nothing was there (didn't know you had to wait 2 minutes). Checked back in about 10 minutes and there it was! Just waiting for me to collect it!

I was doing the Gurubashi Arena daily, when a DK flew over. Strange, since my server (Burning Steppes) is quite empty and I hardly ever meet any Horde when travelling through the Eastern Kingdoms. I just flew away but heared the scream of Short John Mithril and went back to the arena. And there he was, a Goblin frost DK, 159k health, just waiting on the arena floor. No idea what was going to happen, I landed next to him and emoted "?". One minute later the chest spawned, the DK attacked me, and I didn't know what was going on. I did try to open the chest, but it takes a LONG time. So a stun didn't really do the trick...

Still, I gave the guy quite a fight for a Prot Pally. Had full season 10 gear on, but of course my offence just sucks, so he was just notching away at me. My bubble was on cooldown, else I would have made a "bubbleheart" (you know what I'm talking about Cata Pally's!), since there was no point to the fight and no guildies where online to help me out. And still no idea what was going on...

In short, I died twice and he got the chest. The items inside are pretty useless, but I want the achievement! So next time, I'll be ready...

I arrived there 05:55 real time, been here till now 06:10 and still no chest. I can see the npc's and all so im not zoned out. Any ideas?

Short John Mithril will normally do his call-out at 00:00, 03:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00 server time. However, because of the fact that the Gurubashi Arena Booty Run is set every three hours instead of at certain times (the server does not check the time, it simply counts out 3 hours), during Daylight Savings Time, the chest will not spawn at the normal time, but either an hour later or an hour earlier than usual, until the following Tuesday when maintenance is performed and servers are restarted.

Twice in the past day (midnight and midday) I have logged in to go after the chest but it's not spawning. Any idea if it's bugged or something? My clock says it's noon realm time but maybe DLS is messing with it? Mithril never moved from 11:59-12:08 :-/

EDIT: Confirmed. He dropped the chest at 1:00p server.

It is worth noting that by the time he has slowly walked all the way around the arena and placed the chest in the centre, it is 2 minutes past the top of the hour.

Great if you are running late, infuriating if you are the only one camping it!

hehe i just got that trinket, there was 2 lvl 60 hordes and a 45 one of the lvl 60 killed the other and thn the lvl 45 iklled the last lvl 60 then i sapped the lvl 45 and took chest and ran away p.s im only 36

man...7 undead rogues camped there at 3 in the morning...so lame the only time ive gotten it is when there was actually no one there (level 43 paladin)

Stop being sore. Rogues can stealth for a reason. That reason being that because we only wear leather, we can't keep up very well against anyone wearing plate, and because we don't have any decent ranged attacks whatsoever, we can't keep up very well against casters from a distance either.

If rogues couldn't stealth, they would be the whipping-boys of WoW. But we can, and we're not.
Get over it.

It does amuse me however that Gurubashi arena fights always seem to end up with a stealth-off in my experience.

One, it says you gotta be level 35 to start this quest, but i see every rogue twink with arena grand master, maybe even two of them. Does that mean you get it right out of the chest every few times?

read the quest, you CAN get it at 19, but its lvl 55, you gotta collect 12 arena masters (which you probably get from the chest which will take A LOT of time.)

Short John Mithril is in the arena stands opposite the entrance to the Gurubashi Arena.

The chest respawns every 3 hours, remember that your time and the server time may be different when planning to go there.

A tip to getting the chest;

Rogues: Hide out on the edge, wait till the battle gets thin, sap the last person, get the chest and run.

Hunter: Same as rogues, but use frost trap instead.

Druid: Wait till the last person is standing in stealth, if they were in a hard fight, take advantage of that and pwn them.

Pally/Warrior/Shaman: Just dominate at the place, it's hardest for you probably.

Mage: Same as hunter/rogue, but use Polly Morph.

Warlock: You might be able to pull a fast one with fear, but it's harder then some other classes.

Priest: Basically the hardest for priests, stay out of the fray and jump in at the end, if you can fear them and grab the chest, go for it.

The above is correct except for one thing: warlocks should send their succubus in to use seduction before fear runs out.
That gives you about 20 seconds to grab. Oh, and if you have one of these and want to get another (usually twinks), I would assume that the trinket itself would protect you from interruption when trying to loot this, so you might want to use it just before hand.
Not sure though.

for war/sham/hunt and w/e twink who dont have a 70 to escort them get your main and go to westfall and kill some Dust Devils and get magic dust-puts the target to sleep for up to 30 seconds

If im not mistaken, if ur a pally and you time it right cant u just bubble and try to open the chest first and snatch the loot? I think that this should be fairly easy for pallys to obtain.

Sorry, you can't do that while immune. I got a 70 paladin and I tried to cap a flag but it couldn't, it will say "you can't do that when you are immune".

Well, I got it as level 40. Easy, sometimes there's nobody there and sometimes you can team up with higher players: 'I get the trinket, you get everything else'

Been one of the best trinkets I've got in the next 25 levels ;)
