This item has a chance to come out of the Crate of Tasty Meat and can be used for a cooking recipe at 425 (Blackened Surprise). It is also used for an Engineering pattern that is similar to a Fish Feast (Goblin Barbecue).

The drop rate for ingredients ~20% is very poor compared to northrend ingredients which are around 50%-50% from beasts in the field. Food would be a nice boost leveling but until one is epiced out at 85 and can AoE them down its a hard grind to make a stack of anything. Be nice know why it was implemented this way.

Personally, I found the Stone Bats to be the best source of this. They fly in large packs at a time, so you can kill several easily. Farming anything else feels too slow as there aren't a lot of them around.

By far the best place to farm these is from the Stone Bats.

Yeah, killed 2 groups now and all I'm getting is fangs and green items.

I think it's been removed from these mobs (which would make sense considering they're made from stone.)

Well, think about it. Perhaps the flesh is so toughened that it has the consistency of stone when you bite into it and break your jaws.

Also, I got one from a single flock of bats. It appears they still drop as said above.

So aside from stone bats, are there any other good places to farm this meat?

I'm thinking of trying the orca in Kelp'thar forest, since Blackfin and the Frenzied Orcas both have a 20% drop rate for the meat. It's definitely no Stone Bat, but we don't have Stone Bats anymore (at least until this bug is fixed).

Edit: I'm actually going to confirm that the Frenzied Orcas are awesome for farming Toughened Flesh. They haven't been nerfed, they're skinnable, and they have an incredible respawn rate. Have fun! :)

The stone bats will no longer drop toughened flesh. This was applied in the most recent hotfix (though not listed in the patch notes) and

"confirmed to be an intended change"

by a Blizzard rep. You can check it out on the forums. doesn't make much sense imo, its not like it was 100% drop rate. You actually had to work for it :-(

these are much easier to farm from tigers in lost city of tol'vir and you can also farmt hem in the oasis to the west of the lost city in uldum. just from farming savage leather i have reseaved over 600 of them and have nothing to do with them. anyone no if turing them into the food and selling that is more profitable?

A general, all-purpose flesh. The Cataclysm version of Viande glacée. However, Toughened Flesh has fewer uses and drops from fewer mobs.

Camels in Uldum have a decent drop chance, I was out there and was able to get a stack of meat in about 10-15 minutes.

I personally had at least a %50 drop rate from the pacified Hyjal Bearspacified Hyjal Bears in hyjal. Took all of 5 minutes to get a stack of flesh.

If you're farming this from Hyjal Stag, be prepared for some frustration because you'll not be the only one farming it. Those freaking annoying Twilight Hunter Trolls kill them too. However, I did notice the Stag dropped the Toughened Flesh an average 1 out of 3 kills. That's my observation and it might be different for others.

Best place to farm these are from the Hyjal Stags in Mt. Hyjal. Yes the trolls there do hunt them too but the respawn rate is incredible and if you just kill some of the trolls you won't have to worry about competing against them. I just farmed 80 flesh in about 8 minutes on an 85 boomkin. Just dot and run to the next one.

Personally I like to farm the rabid hyenas in Uldum. There are plenty of them and the drop rate is very high.

Wish I'd been leveling cooking when the stone bats weren't hotfixed. :<

I was in Twilight Highlands, had to save the female dwarf.

Those worgs dropped them pretty well. Of course probably not a great place since you go in a cave full of orges.

Fair warning: If you're going to farm the bears in Hyjal for the meat, do so before completing the quest chain that regrows the forest. The bears are no longer there once the fires are out, it seems.

Tigers in the Lost City of the Tol'vir? Didn't see any in or around the place. And no oasis on the west side either, just a narrow strip of land up to the mountains. I was able to get a decent drop rate further to the west at the Cradle of the Ancients (44, 73) from the shaggy desert coyote, roughly one in three. Watch out for the buzzards in that area they will attack you when you are on your flying mount.

As for the tigers in lost city of tol'vir, they're very easy to solo-farm, even as a warrior: normal difficulty, there are 2 groups of 5 tigers and an oathsworn elite, and despite of my all but excellent armor the elite hit me for 5,5k, and the tigers for 700-800, so I focused on the elite, and killed the tigers with AoE.

They drop almost always the toughened flesh.

Other good place I found to farm it is, of course, mount hyjal: the stags have a worse drop rate than these tigers, but at least you don't have to reset every time, and that's a thing you can only do five times every hour.

I'm finding Hyjal Stag a good source for Toughened Flesh.
Drop rate is around 50%
The Stag re-spawns at a fast rate.

If you're farming Toughened Flesh to level up your cooking with Surprise noircie, my experience has been to farm in Uldum, mainly Serpent des marais, Hyène enragée, or Tigre. There are plenty of them, and they have a decent drop and respawn rate. I was able to collect a decent stack of meat inside of 15 - 20 minutes.

For sure the Rabid Hyenas in Uldum at 67, 51 and 65, 48.5 then head north a tiny ways and get all the Mangy Hyenas around the Obelisk of the Stars- avoid aggroing the Sand Pygmys at obelisk for time sake then once you've completed a full pass around the obelisk, head back to the Rabid Hyenas at the coordinates above.. I went back and forth and collected two stacks in 20 min. no biggie.

EDIT: actually... yes! The Shaggy Desert Coyotes in the Cradle of the Ancients of Uldum were a great place to farm these! the drop rate wasnt 100% as someone here said but it was good- just as good as the hyenas- and the number of coyotes was simply superior to hyenas. Also, the re-spawn time was great! and no sand pygmys to worry about. Definitely farm toughened flesh from the coyotes.

Obelisk of the Stars (66,28) is a great place to farm these.
Almost every Hyène galeuse drops these. I farmed about 10-15 minutes and got 25 of them.
They also respawn pretty fast.

Toughened Flesh can be skinned in Twilight Highlands from Highland Worg (36% drop rate) and Highland Elk (36% drop rate).

I was trying to get Toughened Flesh for a cooking recipe (used as regents for Blackened Surprise and Barbecue gobelin).
