Colorblind Mode?

Just like the in game Colorblind mode can we have items display their rarity (e.g a purple item would say "Epic" on the items tool-tip)
Being colorblind it makes everything a lot easier to know the difference between a blue and a purple!
Thanks in advance <3

I like this suggestion not only for those players who are colorblind, but also for the new players who might not yet understand what the color text on gear means. My hope is that this is something that can be easily implemented on this site :)

There
is
a way to see this currently, it's just not very convenient and probably doesn't help you in most situations - looking at the raw tooltip data.
If, for example, you want to know what rarity
Multi-Colored Beads
is, you open the wowhead page for it and add "&xml" to the end.
http://www.cuckhead.com/item=25063
becomes
http://www.cuckhead.com/item=25063&xml
and the page will display in code form the data that forms the tooltip. Near the top is a field for item quality, in this case "<quality id="2">
Uncommon
</quality>".
Obviously a true colour blind mode would be a much better idea but if you really need to know what rarity a specific item is, it's one way to find out.

Edit:
I put together a
user script
for use with e.g.
GreaseMonkey
(
What's a user script?
)
Basically,
Heart of the Thunder King
becomes
Heart of the Thunder King
(Legendary)
This only affects links etc. that have a color, uncolored links can't be detected - however, the tooltip on mouseover
will
display the item color and thus this extra text.
You can alter this to your liking:
In GreaseMonkey, while on a page that runs the script (in this case, any Wowhead page) click the arrow next to the little monkey head, then
right
-click "Wowhead Colorblind Mode". A text editor will appear (Firefox uses its own one, it's basically Notepad with code formatting)
Don't be put off by the code, just change e.g. ' (Uncommon)' to ' (U)' for an abbreviated version - mind the space and especially the quotes!
You can also put the added text in the front, just exchange all mentions of :after to :before
Advanced:
You can't put HTML markup in the text, but you can add additional CSS properties, see the general :after definition.
By default, this script only runs on Wowhead, but you can enable it for other websites (that include Wowhead Tooltips) in GreaseMonkey's settings for the script.
PS:
I have noticed a few issues already, e.g. Wowhead sometimes uses the qX classes to color text other than items - after installing the script, hover the second (Legendary) in the example above for an, uh, example, or go to the
reputation page
.
Rather negligible, though.
PPS:
Argh, it affects the "Heroic" etc. tags in
item listings
, but luckily not in tooltips or on item pages (where the text is colored "manually" :P )
PPPS
oh FFFS, it affects green effects in items, how did I miss that...
PPPPS:
I'm in the progress of fixing this, caught much of this, there's a new version available.
PPPPPS:
New version, with support for links to Hearthstone cards! e.g. is a "(Common Card)". Also rearranged and streamlined the code, so that the descriptions are at the top of the code, easier to find if you want to customize them.
PPPPPS:
Yet another version! Now with a
"badge"-y thingy
for moderator/admin posts and comments.
Been a while since I dabbled in CSS, had much fun :) This would look way more fancy if
selector subjects
were implemented already :(
Until then, it has to be this inline stuff - I find them a bit obtrusive, but then again, it's their purpose to be noticeable, indicating what otherwise the color would show.

Rarity hasn't actually meant anything since Burning Crusade came out and gave us clvl 60 greens that were better than Naxxramas epics.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##This is a Wowhead Feedback thread and is not for arguments regarding the game's systems.

It's called progress. However, you're somewhat correct in that since Cata, item budget correlates directly to item level, without heed to item quality.
Anyway, this gives me an excuse to mention that I have uploaded a new version of the script that eliminates many of the mentioned false positives, plus has support for other stuff such like
"Reagents" listings
, though I can't remember why I added <span> tags (in addition to <a> and <b> for links and tooltips) in the first version, so there may be some occasions where it doesn't apply.
Please notify me about any oddities.

Um...yeah that's not true; there were people clearing T4 while still in their T2 and T3 gear.

Colorblind mode is a good suggestion that merits a discussion free from derails. Discussion of game item levels don't belong here and I'll start deleting posts to get things back on track if I need to.

some fixes, more exclusions for colored links that aren't items etc. or where the color doesn't matter for other reasons.
