This excellent quest can earn you the achievement Lächerliche Geschwindigkeit which is a reference from the movie Spaceballs. It will hopefully be very interesting to do.

Did this today on my druid.

Found that each bird grants different amounts of Segeln towards Lächerliche Geschwindigkeit
Hawks - 15-------- x2 = 30
Owls - 5------------ x5 = 25
Songbirds - 1----- x12 = 12

Which gives you a total of 67 so you have a buffer zone of 2 Songbirds (If they where the first birds you got)

With that in mind I found it easy to start at a high point close to a Hawk and then grabbing another Hawk asap (I think its 7secs between each before it resets and you have to abandon and get the quest again). After that onto an Owl and any Songbird near it, then keep traveling towards another tree whether it has Songbirds or Owls.

One thing to note: I found out that once you have taken 2 Hawks or 5 Owls or 12 Songbirds that they will no longer count towards the achievement

Hope this helps as it can be very annoying. Hang in there and don't forget if you have your Soar reset to 0 you'll have to abandon and start again..

Don't panic if you lose your flock!

I called the big bird, and gathered the little birds, thus completing the first quest. Then I got called away from the computer. When I returned, all the little birds were gone and I was not able to gather more.

I figured what the heck, I'd give it a shot ... and it worked beautifully. Not sure where the birds came from but they did their job!

Having trouble seeing those pesky Alpine Songbirds?

Just hold control and press V my friend and they will have a big green health bar over their heads.

Okie my feathery friends, don't worry there is a trick to this damn achi. Here is how:

Get into a raid.

When you are in a raid you still get the buff from whatever birds you gather but the count doesn't go up, stays at 0 so you can go for Hawks that give 15stacks, of course you might have to get some other birds in the process cause 8sec is not enough to go from Hawk to Hawk but it will take you 5mins tops to get this achievement.

Easy way:

Pick up the daily Call the Flock (if it's available).

Use the feather to turn yourself into the bird.

Abandon the quest.

Now you can pick up as many birds as you want and never have to abandon. I finished with 72 Soar.

Found a cool little bug today. Completed this quest, and then went on to the next. Even after the rest of my flock disappeared, an owl and two songbirds stuck around, even after turning in the Wings Aflame quest. Unfortunately, my feathered friends disappeared some time when i was killing molten behemoths and seething pyrelords. It was fun to see people staring though. ^_^

If like me your just doing this daily to progress the storyline and dont much care for the achievement then i have a good tip. You dont need to tag the birds with your mouse. It's very fiddly. You only need to get close to them. I hope this helps you speed up your grinding o/

I tried to do what everyone says to do, and after about 5 minutes I finally got the achievement. What I did was get the daily Call the Flock and then transformed into the bird then abandoned the quest. I went to the birds and all you honestly need to get the cheevo is get 4 hawks and 1 owl. If you can't find one of those after you just finished capturing another one, grab a songbird below and it'll reset your time to 8 more seconds. The reason to abandon the quest is because you get as many birds as you need as if you had the quest you can only get the required amount. Hope this helps all you cheevo wanters out there!(=

I was in a raid with the quest in my log.. (not abandonned)
I could pickup birds, which didn't count for the quest (duh)

However I did get the Soar buff.

From then on I just gathered Owls and Hawks and this way the achievement was very easy to do.

Seems to work just like abandoning.
but if they ever hotfix that being in a raid might do the trick

This didnt work for me 1/13/12 patch 4.3, i took quest, turned into bird, abandoned quest, i flew around hitting 1, gathering birds, but it does nothing, i dont get any soar buffs, nothing, i gathered for a good 5 min

the other strange thing is, i have never seen the soar buff previously, when i did this daily before, i looked it up here because i've never seen a soar buff, anywhere when doing this quest normally?

no soar buff on my buffs, i just collect birds and finish quest when i get it, not getting this correctly

anyone know why i am not getting soar? i've done this quest probably 20 times and i've never seen a soar buff or stacks of soar, i wanted to do this acheivement now and i cant

Ok there is a slight glitch. U must use the feather at the quest giver, or u turn into a regular bird, when u should look like a Harpy. When i do this on my alt i will add screenshots

Pretty easy Achiev as of patch 4.3.3.
I done it as first post mention - take quest -> abandon quest -> abandon fly form -> take quest -> do Quest + achiev.

OK, I think that the abandon the quest bug is fixed. Today I turned into bird form, and abandoned the quest. But then I could not pick it up again, and, for the first time ever, mobs attacked me while I was in bird form.

Then when I went back to the quest giver I could not get the quest again.

I may try the raid bug as well.

As of 8/7/2012 the above mentioned get quest/daily, drop, gather still works. Got my achievement today :D

As of 8/23/2012 abandoning the quest and collecting the birds still awards the achievement for Ludicrous Speed.
