Stunning questline. Orkus is the most memorable character in WoW I've ever seen. Such a tragic character and such a bittersweet ending. He almost made me shed a tear.

Just like the Awsome dude, he fights along with you. So i was happy and stuff, although he did crap dmg for a Kingslayer (88 dmg.. lol), i was really really suprised on the last event.

He really died :(..

Minor flaw though, the moment Kasha picked him up, he still had 15k/30k health, no way he could've died because of that. Then again, behing a Kingslayer, he already been revived once by Darion and trying to kill him he has done quite a few corpseruns i asume, why couldnt he do so just now? :(

Like Bolvar said, you and these brave heroes have your own destiny to forfill.. Orkus, this was your destiny, it was a honor to fight aside you. Lok'tar!

Orkus, you were a true Hero of the Horde. I swear that I will avenge you, and hunt Ivar Noobfang, Balinda Moanhearth and Vanndar Weakpike until the end, even though I've killed the last 2 a million times already!

In case if anyone is wondering, here's what happened after you turn in the They Will Never Expect This... quest and accept Heroes of the Horde!. Of course, massive spoilers ahead.

When you reach the top of the Purgation Isle, it starts.

Kingslayer Orkus says: STOP! GET DOWN, <name>!
Kingslayer Orkus says: Look there, near the map table! The Stormpike Battle Master holds the Alliance battle plans!
Kingslayer Orkus says: I... I have a plan of my own.
Kingslayer Orkus says: I will kill the guard at the table and then I will draw the attention of the trio.
Kingslayer Orkus says: While I have them distracted you get the plans from the guard's corpse. I will call Kasha to pick you up as soon as I see you get the plans.
Kingslayer Orkus says: Do not worry about Orkus, <name>. I... I will be fine.
Kingslayer Orkus says: Tell me when you are ready and we will go!

You then will have to talk to Orkus and tell him you are ready to go. He will promptly jump at the Stormpike Battle Master and kill him in one shot, and then immediately engage the trio at the tower..

Kingslayer Orkus yells: GET THE PLANS AND GO!
Kingslayer Orkus yells: CAN YOU SMELL WHAT THE LOK'TAR IS COOKIN'?

After you loot the corpse and get the Alliance Battle Plans...

Kingslayer Orkus yells: KASHA, GET <NAME> OUT OF HERE!
Kingslayer Orkus yells: FORGET ABOUT ME, KASHA! GO!

Kasha will swoop down and pick you up and fly away very briefly before turning back to pick up Orkus. Orkus has rather low health at this point to signify that he is dying. Kasha brings you back to Tarren Mill, and the following happens on the way...

Kingslayer Orkus says: K... Kasha... you... came back for me...
Kingslayer Orkus says: You are the best friend that Orkus ever had, <name>. *Orkus coughs*
Kingslayer Orkus says: I... I never knew anyone like you. You saved me, <name>. I... I know it's selfish, but I have something to ask of you.
Kingslayer Orkus says: Please take care of Kasha. Make sure she finds a cold place to live.
Kingslayer Orkus says: Somewhere safe...

Kingslayer Orkus dies midflight. Kasha lands in Tarren Mill and High Warlord Cromush approaches you...

High Warlord Cromush says: What happened? What have you got in your hands there?
High Warlord Cromush reads the Alliance battle plan.
High Warlord Cromush says: He... He died to get this here?
High Warlord Cromush lifts Orkus' lifeless body up.
High Warlord Cromush says: Do not mourn Orkus. He died with honor... with pride. He died a hero of the Horde.
High Warlord Cromush says: From Lordaeron to Kalimdor, they will know his name and they will sing songs of glory, praising the fallen champion of the Horde.
High Warlord Cromush says: Know that what you did will save hundreds, maybe thousands of lives. You are also a true hero of the Horde, <name>.

Bravo, Blizzard, for putting in such an emotional quest that actually bought me to tears.

Do not mourn Orkus. He died with honor ... with pride. He died a hero of the Horde.

BUT just to let people know ... if you fail to loot the guy with the battle plans, you can watch Orkus take on three Alliance characters for ... well, for a while, and nobody ever dies and you really can't do anything. You might wonder how I know that.

In which case you just abandon the quest, go back down the path and restart the whole thing. THIS TIME get the battle plans from the first guy that Orkus kills.

If you decide to fight with Orkus he will be able to hold the aggro all the time and you just need to toss him a heal once in a while. BUT, you wont be able to kill Balinda, Vanndar or Bloodfang. You can only bring them down to one 1hp and they will continue fighthing forever.

My game crashed while riding back from the island. I was dead when I logged back in. I abandoned the quest and tried finding Orkus at the shore and the island, but he wasn't there. High Warlord Cromush never showed up in Tarren Mill either, so his entire quest chain is broken too.

Ok...I just HAD to go take screenshots to share with y'all!

Putting the pet on passive, I sacrificed myself to the local Snapjaws and ran around until I found Orcus and Kasha....you now all owe me armor repair money...heh.

If you wait by the Inn, you will see Kasha and Orcus land on the hill just to the South of the Inn as well as on the Gazebo where Malisara and High Warlord Cromush hand out quests.
They then fly down to the lake and circle it, pretty close to the ground. This is the best location to see Orcus with Kasha...I recommend standing on the boat in the lake, as you can see them coming, and take a few screenshots of your own to cherish as well.

... *sniffle*...

After circling the lake, they fly back to the hill just South of the Inn to land and start the pat again.

Should you choose to not sacrifice yourself to Snapjaws as I did, you can still see Kasha flying the pat, knowing all the while that Orcus is still with her.

This might explain why she chose to stay in Tarren Mill instead of returning to Northrend...

When I did this questline in person, after reading about it, I thought it would just end at him drowning.
But no.
I saved him, healed Kasha, and eventually went on to be a hero. We smashed those dumb dwarven faces in, stole the plans, and flew out of there. But...after Orkus died a hero and Cromush called him (and me) a hero.
At this point, I thought blizz would pull a big prank and have it turn out that Orkus had knocked you unconscious when you tried saving him and you dreamed the whole thing...but no. It was real.
I cried.
RIP Orkus, you will never be forgotten.

I haven't commented, or signed into wowhead in over 2 years (noted by how many "anniversary achievments" I unlocked up on signing in just now) but I couldn't let this one go. This quest was up there as most epic story quest I have done, and it was an honor to blow away a few worgen and dwarves with Orkus. RIP my friend. Hopefully they'll put me behind you on Kasha when I die. Lok'tar will be cookin alliance for supper tonight as I slaughter all of them within the realm of Alterac.

Y'know what the Lok'tar is cookin'? Some "Eye of the Tiger" while doing this quest. Then "Open Arms" after you fly off on Kasha. RIP Orkus!

Ok, since no one here said anything about what to do, I'll be the one to say something for those who need help with this quest. Once you get to the top of the hill, you will see a battle master standing by a table, and then you'll see 3 Elite characters. They will not attempt to fight you. Dont fight them. When the guy who is with you the whole time through these chain quests shows up talk to him and it will say something like "Im ready to go Orkus" Click that and he will immediatly start fighting everyone. He will kill the battle master first and then he'll start fighting everyone else. Right click on the battle master and she will have the alliance battle plans. then youlll hop on the dragon and be on your way! At first i was confused on what to do with this quest but then i figured out so hope this helps yall!

I was running to help Orkus when he got the dragon to grab me. I yelled out in real life and mashed my buttons to save him. R.I.P Orkus Gone but not forgotten!

Well, that was annoyingly entertaining. Currently there is a bug on this quest. I took it twice with the exact same result. In the same place too. After Kingslayer Orkus says: I... I never knew anyone like you. You saved me, <name>. I... I know it's selfish, but I have something to ask of you.

And this is where I get kicked off of his dragon and dies. Twice. Instead of him. Since he's a little twerp I fully expected something like this to happen. But when I didn't get my XP after reviving and he freaking FOLLOWS ME EVERY WHERE, I kind of birthed a clue that, you know, this isn't supposed to happen. I abandoned and took the quest again.

I can't go back to the very beginning of the quest line, I've tried. I've had other friends try to help and nothing's worked. When I re-take the quest, I had to swim all the way back to the island, everyone's still dead and Orkus kills the map holder NPC. Then as we're escaping it happens again just after he says that.

So I contacted a GM. Still waiting...and Orkus is still useless baggage, following me around.

Edit: Oh, did I mention armor damage adds up? I want my 3s back.

Edit1 child of Edit: I abandoned the quest for a 4rth time and this time no where near his original place. He shows up, right next to me, with that bright yellow ! mark and follows me no matter where I run too. -_- I even flew across the map and he shows. >_<

Quest is bugged. Orkus just follows me around doing nothing, cant see the NPC in Tarren Mill. Tried to abandon the quest and do it again - got kicked off the drake on the way back to Tarren Mill. Opened a ticket and waiting for a answer on how to complete it.

LE: I was able to complete the quest a few minutes later. I had to abandon the quest and fly towards Undercity so i lose Orkus then fly back to Hillsbrad and only accepted the quest when arrived to Purgation Isle.

I found the first quest in this quest line at random and had no idea what I was in for when I helped this "drowning" idiot out of the water. It turned out to be one of the most awesome and emotional quests I've seen so far. It would be nice to be able to keep Kasha as a mount, but I knew that was too good to be true, especially for such a low level quest. But this quest is still definitely worth doing. Great job on this one, Blizzard. RIP, Orkus.

I assumed there would be a follow-up quest, where you take Kasha up to the Alterac Mountains (snowy, thus cold) to find a home for her. It seems she found her way in that direction on her own, but it still would have been nice to have been involved with that.

Go to Southshore and find Kingslayer Orkus in the water and do:

The Road to Purgation
They Will Never Expect This...

Then you can do this final quest and get your level 20 twink gear!

If you are a high level player with a flying mount you may experience a confusing problem trying to complete this quest. You receive the quest from Orkus somewhere on Purgation Isle. If you fly straight to the top of the island Orkus will follow you but the alliance NPC's will be nowhere in sight. Also, you cannot start the event by talking to Orkus.

Instead of flying straight to the top you should follow the path by walking or riding as if you didn't have a flying mount. When you get near the top you will notice that Orkus slows down starting a scripted event (following the path on the ground triggers the event). After a short while you can talk to him. He will charge and kill the battlemaster which you should then loot to continue the scripted event allowing you to complete the quest.

Do not tell him to attack while mounted, the will be unattackable, even to Orkus, he will continue to run towards the trio, who aren't attackable either. Dismounting then does not help, as the NPCs do not engage in combat, and the Battle Master heals full/evades after every hit.

Make sure you're not mounted up when you start this event. I was and it bugged out, dismounting seemed to fix the problem.

Once you lead Kingslayer Orkus up the ramp, you must loot the plans from the Stormpike Battle Master. I didn't do this, I beat the three elites down to 1 health before I read back through the chat line and realized my mistake.

Did this quest at lvl 85.Missed it early in the game.LOVED IT! By far one the best quests in the game...surely the most emotional.Great job Blizzard.R.I.P. Bro:(

I went back and was working on the Loremaster achievement with my Lvl 61 Shaman. Like a dolt I rode up to the top of the road and wondered what was going on. Then I talked to Orkus, he charged and the big battle began. I completely missed looting the plans and the fight raged on.. and on... and on. I finally dropped the quest, figuring I'd skip it. When I went back to Tarren Mill, the NPCs were as RotJ described and I couldn't turn anything in.

Lesson Learned!

Thanks for the tips about dismounting and what happens when the game crashes. Both provided helpful info. I re-did the quest, got the Battle Plans and finished the quest. I agree with the other posts here, this is likely the most memorable quest line in the game.

When I accept the quest, nothing happens. I have it set to accept in my log, but the NPCs are just standing there looking at each other. I can't click on anything or anyone!

I tried abandoning it and taking it again, but all that happened was the enemy NPCs disappeared and didn't re-appear when I re-accepted it. And this time Orkus is following me instead of staring at the bad guys. WTF!
