Just use the item you were given-on the Emerald Colossus and it will take away their (elite) status. Now kill em!

If you are a Druid, dont use the weapon in flight form. It will make the Emerald Colossus smaller but it will not remove the Elite status and you will get squished very quickly!

I tried to keep this and moved on to other quests in the zone but they all dried up making me need to turn it in.

Those colosus give ~1g a pop and good drops I wanted to farm later.

Fun thing to do when bored(well, as a hunter at least), axe those suckers and feign death. They will shrink and stay shrunk. I shrunk em all, and watched other players fly past them looking for giants, while QQ'n in chat about none being around. Maybe I'm just a jerk... :P

whatever you do.... don't get your quest items mixed up and try to use a charred branch on one of these fellas. I'll tell ya; it don't work.

I used my ghoul to attack, then hurled the axe. Was able to hurl it twice which brings them down fast.

You can't go straight to him and take the quest for the rewards. You have to quest in Deepholm and you'll get a quest that requires you to take a Dwarf to Yevaa and from there the quest chain starts. The quest that leads directly to him is called The Quaking Fields

For rogues, wanting the thrown weapon, if you haven't done any Q's in Deepholm (I hadn't on my 85 Rogue) you just need to do

1. Where's Goldmine
2. Explosive bonding compound (took 9 kills for me) + Something that burns
3. Apply and flash dry
4. Take him to the earthcaller
5. To Stonehearth's aid
6. The Quaking fields
7. The Axe of Elemental Sundering

30 minutes max.

got 3 greens and at least 1g+ off 3/5 mobs

Straightforward quest:
Find an Emerald Colossus;
Hit him with the Axe of Earthly Sundering (which you got from the quest giver);
In a couple of seconds his health drops from 34k to 44639;
In a couple more seconds; he shrinks to about 1/3 his original size;
Start fighting him anytime (obviously it's smart to axe and deplete him first but you don't need to).
Note: if you're a Druid, see the comment by Ragola.
Note: Miners can mine his corpse.
Note: You should have gotten Elemental Ore at the same time from the same quest giver; its objectives are in the same area as the Emerald Colossi.
