Marl Wormthorn can be found inside the hollow tree in the Tainted Forest (it's a cave-like entrance). "Throw" your Demoniac Vessel at the quest mob, releasing him from his shadowmourne-like prison (aka: Marl's Shield). Defeat him and return to Mayor Charlton Connisport in Surwich.

Unfortunately, this is not the first zone without a cloth blue reward at the end of the zone. Burning Steppes had the exact same issue. If you follow the progression for new Dwarf Warlocks and Mages (or Gnome Priests), you end up in the Badlands -> Searing Gorge -> Burning Steppes -> Swamp of Sorrows -> Blasted Lands.

And as a result you end with very few cloth caster upgrades or rewards and almost no new blue ones.

Very unhappy especially since most of these quests were NEW ones. There's no reason not to put in upgrades for everyone.

I wonder if this quest has been compromised since cataclysm. when i aim the ring under Marl and click, the ring goes away but Marl isn't released. I lost the "fallen hero" chain i was working on in this area when cataclysm hit.

After dozens of aiming attempts i did finally get him released. I had to aim so just the edge of the circle was under him.

No hunter (or enhancement shaman) reward either. And the leather reward has INT on it, so I guess feral druids and rogues are out too.

I haven't seen a decent rogue reward for the past dozen levels or so. There's been some leather gear, but everything offered would cost me a loss of agility.

I was with my level 61 Priest-Shadow, on my flying carpet. I approached his entrance not sure if I would aggro any of the 4 demons that surround him.I went in to the cave/hollow of the tree immediately to the left side, more space and a place to observe all around me. clicked the sack , got a green target ring, ran it out till it was under Maul Wormthorn, left click it then set up for the kill. Went holy fire, mind flay, plagues, then mind flay again. the whole time I had my ring of protection on. Used about a 1/3 of my manna. Got the kill and credit. Level up!

So many whiners about the quest rewards. There is a better, more immersive quest in the Blased Lands called You Are Rakh'likh, Demon that rewards blue rings that every spec can use (30 of 30). This quest rewards items for very specific specs (I count 8 out of 30), and that's fine with me, even though I'm a cloth wearer. Since you get armor upgrades all the time from quest rewards, I value the blue rings much more.

You might want to take out the demons around him before you "break his trance" with the Demoniac vessel. Once you use the vessel, be ready for him to start casting, Pummel and Kick are nice to have ready if you're a Warrior or Rogue!
