So I just completed this quest and the barrel I had to search didn't give me another quest to continue searching. My friend said he had this exact same problem too...

Confirmed. The half-buried barrel did not offer the follow-up quest. Have a ticket in about it.

There is another quest like this in Loch Modan. Resupplying the Excavation.

Don't be surprised if the "complete quest" screen gets stuck and the next quest does not come up. not sure if its because I am trying to complete it as a higher level character.

I too am at level 85, and am pretty sure I completed this and the other quest back in the day.
