Use the Mechashark X-Steam Controller (applies buff and spawns vehicle)
Once inside the Mechashark you have 3 abilities:
1. Freakin' Laser Beam (use it all the time)
2. Egg-splosive Barrage (use when not on cooldown)
3. Repair (heal when less than 50% health)

The Hammer stands no chance versus ~~Doctor Evil's~~ Hobart Grapplehammer's Mechashark X-Stream death machine!

The controller for the Mechashark X-Steam is located on the beach, next to the Town-in-a-box. If you're not paying attention, you might miss the chat telling you where the controller is.

DPS until your health is three quarters then repair. There shouldn't be any time in between shots. The shark takes big bites.

This quest is SERIOUSLY bugged for anyone with a high-latency connection. You click on the controller, and a second after entering the vehicle, you are forced right back out. WITH NO WAY TO COMPLETE THE QUEST AND THUS ADVANCE TO THE REST OF THE GAME.

GJ Blizz for making an entire race unplayable for anyone not willing to pay you greedy POS for a race change.

I found the key was not to repair too early. Just spam your attack butttons, and really, you can let yourself go down to about half health b4 doing a repair, as you will only need to do this once before killing the beastie.

This has got to be one of the best quests in the game.

It's not every day you get to pilot a semi-organic shark-shaped miniature attack submarine armed with egg torpedoes and a laser beam.

so after reading all of your posts I feel a little out of the loop, what am i doing wrong? I tried to do the steps Rinor had suggested, and I did not kill him, I tied twice and could not kill him...any one have any other hints that may help.?

ok, after dying about 17 times, I finally figured out something that might help others - when you get in, first go after all the minor sharks in the area, one shot will take them out - the main problem is having them attack at the same time as you're fighting the big dude. Take them out first, and then, once you're fully healed (if there was any damage) go after the elite.

I died quite a few times, even after reading the suggestions on how to do this quest. What finally worked for me was to use the repair (healing) function as soon as the game suggested to, and then use it again every time it finished it's cooldown and became available for use again. I agree with spamming the laser and the egg bombs. Use them as often as you can, but heal as soon as it is possible to do so.

I did find the suggestion to kill off any of the minor sharks in the immediate area helpful. Get that done before going after boss shark "The Hammer".

It seems the healing function is greatly reduced, even spamming it every time it comes up still leads to death. I can't see how to complete this quest. All the lesser sharks are dead, I spam the eggs and the laser, and hit the heal whenever it's up. No new quests until I kill this guy.

If you're having issues defeating this, note that the shark sub moves at the same speed as The Hammer, and the egg barrage is not directional. If you need, hit him with a laser beam to pull, then swim directly away from him while using the Egg Barrage on cooldown. If he catches up for some reason, keep swimming away and use repair as needed.

Just finished this and here is what I did. I killed the sharks around the area and then I spamed the laser and repaired when 1/2 way and I backed up while spaming and he had to follow me and the lasers seemed to work better this way and I didn't have to use the egg thing at all.

I was having trouble with this quest too, but I found the easy way to beat it is after you kill the little sharks, hit the Mech shark once with the laser beam, then let it follow you around as you spam the egg-plosive button---of course you have to wait for the cool down. Hit the health button when you get below 50% or so. I kept getting killed at first because I would try to use the laser (which you have to be facing the target to use; that's when you get hit really hard) - forget the laser after you use it to get the big shark's attention. Backing up didn't work for me - it was too slow.

"The Hammer" tore me apart a couple times before I tried a tactic that worked! When I managed to kill him, I open up with the egg barrage, repaired at 3/4's health and spammed my "Frickin' Laser" until he finally died. He managed to kill my Submersible, but we died at the exact same time and I swam out of the wreckage and turned in my quest! Open up with your "Barrage" when you do this! (Btw, my left arm is paralyzed so I only have one hand working at 100%, which makes moving around in fights kinda tricky. So, I prettymuch had to stay in place as I blasted the Hammer. But, since you prob. have both hands at 100%, you'll be able to swim around while you shot him down!)

This is insane. I've tried every tactic in these comments and I still can't kill the frickin' thing! After ten tries, I'm ready to just give up. It doesn't help that I have a phobia about water and big things IN the water that gets triggered every time. I don't know what to do now. I can't get past this one stupid quest! :-(

I died taking him on face to face. I hit him with laser and then ran. Keep running in circles and launching eggs (2 key). Repair as needed. I only had to repair once before he died.

How is it if I use a controller, then exit the shark, I pop out OUT OF THE SHARK?

I finished it on the fifth(!) try. Some things that I found I needed to watch:

Global cooldown. Once you do ANYTHING all your buttons go dormant for 1.5 sec. The shark has a very high DPS however. This led to death for me until I started healing early. However see below about healing.
Egg cooldown. The Egg launcher is on a longer timer than the laser, but the laser can't bring The Hammer down by itself: not before it kills you, anyway. That means you will hit the laser most, but watch that "egg timer" closely and use it as soon as you can.
Repair cooldown: 10 seconds. That's a VERY LONG TIME in this fight, because you've got about 15 seconds to kill The Hammer in a straight fight—a bit longer if you hit and run. This is another reason to heal early, because the heal button can't bring you all the way up to full health if you're below 50%. However you don't want to heal TOO early, or you'll waste most of the points and he'll kill you before the Repair button cools down. You have a narrow window in which to use this button.

The upshot of this is that you need to hit him with everything you have until you're at about 50-60% health, then heal and go back to spamming your attack button. After that, hit the heal as soon as it becomes available again. Chances are you or the shark will be dead before you've healed a third time.

Do not try to take this face-on! Run away, spamming the #2 button (eggs?) and hitting heal every 2nd or 3rd time. Worked a charm! Thanks!
