As an extra note, I would like to add that at this time of writing (2008/09/01) WotLK beta build 8885 there are no prequest to this one whatsoever.

If questing is not your thing and you're much more of a grinder, instance farmer, etc, you can walk up to the NPC Archmage Modera at Stars' Rest and accept the quest as soon as you hit level 71, there are no other pre-requisites than your level being 71 at the bare minimum.

Moonrest Gardens is South-West of Star's Rest (not quite to the coast, but almost). There, you will see a large beam of purple light shining from the bottom of a pit energized by a dozen Surge Needle Sorcerers.

Fight your way down to the bottom (level 71-72 mobs) and kill Arcanimus (level 73 elemental non-elite, arcane-resistant) at the bottom of the beam.

Go right under the beam where Arcanimus was and use the Ley Line Attunement Crystal (you have to be exactly under the beam).

Return to Archmage Modera at Stars' Rest and enjoy your port to Dalaran (and 7.38g).

Can someone clarify this for me? It's a level 71 spell, but it requires you to be level 73 to get it...? Or do you get it at 71...?

The NPC is in the zone Dragonblight, and as a 71 mage you won't have any trouble getting there.

Interestingly, you can still complete this quest as a mage if you got to Dalaran through some other method, and learned the Teleport: Dalaran spell from the trainer directly.

For mages grinding Kirin Tor rep like myself who thought I couldn't do this quest after learning the teleport spell, I was pleased to quickly do it and turn it in for Kirin Tor reputation.

Just an aside, but may it help you get rid of that Ring of Blood quest staff all the quicker!

The Center of the Pit is: 20.04, 59.65. Kill Archanimus first, and you're good to go. And go means: use the crystal.

This quest is either bugged or recently changed. I haven't been to Dalaran at all on my Mage, but when I turned the quest in it didn't teach me the spell.

You left out the most important part. You will have to kill the lvl 73 gaurdian. He is immune to Arcane Magic. Hit him with frost and fire. Alternate between the two, the 73 is actually kind of weak.

You MUST be level 71.

Go to Dragonblight (the middle southern zone in Northrend). Go through Borean Tundra and take the road to the east into DragonBlight. Stay on the road and you will find road signs to the following towns:

Alliance: Stars Rest (more like a village/tent town -- no real buildings)
Horde: Agmar's Hammer.

You will find an image of an archmage who will give you a quest to attune yourself to the leylines of Northrend.

This website is a good guide with pictures regarding where to go EXCEPT for where to pick up the quest as an Alliance. The alliance quest is picked up in Stars Rest, not at the place indicated on the map.

Unfortunately, I didn't think to get coordinators as I was running for my life most of the time. However, you certainly can do this quest solo, but it would be good to have help if possible. I would recommend having feathers for slow fall. I used slow fall to get into the crater where you need to use the crystal to complete the quest.

Once you get to Dalaran and bind yourself in the inn, you can get other people to Dalaran via Battlegrounds.
1. Bind yourself in Dalaran.
2. Invite people into a group. They MUST be 71 or higher and you (the mage) must be the leader.
3. Go to the battlemaster and join any battle ground as a group.
4. After you enter the battleground, have everyone type /afk and they will be ported to Dalaran and can then bind themselves there.
