She's a Druid of the Flame I think.... sometimes she shapeshifts into a cat.
I was confused how to get this part of the achievement, because I never had aggro and so her fireball never hits me. The other Inferno spell of course targeted me but even if I "kited" crawling flames on the ground well I didn't achieve a kill without "being hit by her specials"
I tried many times but in the end I gave up and did it the laz(e)y way:
I triggered the NPCs to start the fight and immediately left the area so the Inferno spell couldn't target me (tooltip says 200y). I waited until she had around 50.000 hitpoints left and casted her next Inferno, then I joined the fight and finished her. Maybe there's a more lazy way and you have to do nothing but trigger the event... who knows ;-)

Moving 100% of the time and only casting instants will still cause you to fail for this achievement.
Your best bet is to start the fight and run down the ramp a bit to get out of combat, run back up when she's down to 50k or so and nuke.

It seems like you have to jump when she finishes her cast and then instantly run away from the flames. At least it worked for me that way.
You'll still get a debuff, but it only lasts for 1 second, has a different icon and will not damage you.

If you are having trouble with this achievement there is an easy way to get it!
Just engage the devout harbringer and give her a few hits after that just try to max range it but beware of the dogs around the place. she will random jump somewhere else as long as you are far out of her range. Got it easy that way just takes some time when waiting on the tree to solo her.

Got her the first time I did the quest after unlocking the Ancients. Took a few tries to work out how to avoid the initial application of Creeping Inferno, but in the end I worked out how to avoid it every time.
Start running as soon as she
finishes
her cast, and keep running until you see the fire itself spawn and start to follow you. Move a considerable distance away so that you have time to stand and DPS if you're ranged. Don't hesitate to stand in the white swirls and jump to put yourself far away from the Creeping Inferno.

Completed this by doing absolutely nothing the entire fight. Started it, hit her once, popped Ghost Wolf and didn't stop moving until she was dead. This all after 16 tries of running, jumping, kiting, whatnot.
Trust me, don't bother doing any DPS, just keep moving.

After trying these solutions several times and failing, I finally figured out how to do it easily and properly.
Here's what to do:
Watch for her to cast Creeping Inferno.
When the cast ends, a blast effect will appear at your feet.
A second or two after that, a big, slow-moving, fiery boulder will hit you.
Just before the boulder gets to you, JUMP.
If you're not in the air when the rock hits you, you will get the debuff.
After that, just make sure to run away from the flame trail.
You'll likely have to repeat this several times during the fight, but as long as you do it each time she casts, you'll get her part of the achievement.
NOTE: This method works best for ranged classes. For melee classes, you'll likely want to jump immediately after that cast, as in Miranai's post.

I completed this by jumping and be in air when she finishes the cast, while running sideways
incase I would get the creeper thing on me.
I did
not
get the creeper thing on me because I spent most of the time off range at the dogs nearby. When she had low hp I just went to her and finished her off.

I got this by starting the fight, running away and getting out of combat. Sat there for about 2-3 mins, then went back up to check on health, when low, go in, finish her off, always jump at the cast of creeping inferno and when the fiery ball gets to you.

For Priests. Use levitate and just keep running. If your levitate disappears you've most likely failed. no need to jump this way or pay attention to the cast

After trying this for 40 mins or so, trying to jump, kite and what not, me and few others trying to do this achievement grouped up and found out (by mere luck) that as long as one person stays up and in combat, whole group gets the credit (as was confirmed above). So one person nukes her down, rest stays down the ramp out of combat and just ride up when she's bellow 10% to get into combat and to get the credit (whether be in combat is necessary I don't know, we didn't want to risk it). Kill her twice like this and everyone should get the achievement done. Hope it'll help.

Used a little trick for this, to the far right there's some Charhounds and a wall. Everytime she'd cast Creeping Inferno I'd run straight to that wall, outranging her spell. Tried it the same way before and failed cause I went out of combat I think. This worked quite well if you're ranged and just really suck on jumping like I do. >_<

This might be helpful if you're ever around during a non-peak time, and have an ability that gets you out of combat.
I started the fight as normal, trying out the various jumping out and running methods. I managed to get hit, so I immediately dropped the quest, Shadowmelded, mounted up, and ran back to pick up the quest again. I ran back, and the ancient was still fighting the Harbinger. Still mounted, I just ran around her, not really worrying about getting hit with the debuff or not (I did manage to get it a couple of times). When the harbinger was around 5%, I started combat again. She died quickly, and I got credit. So it seems that as long as you're not actively in combat with her, getting the debuff won't count against you.
The tricky part, of course, is making sure that no other player engages in combat with the Harbinger while you're running back and forth to get the quest and fight her again.

Dunno if anyone said this, and don't care to look, but this is very easy for a mage. I got hit by it, went invisible, and re-engaged her at low hp and got credit for it. So yeah. Thats nice.

As a hunter, all i did was shoot it once, feign death until it got low, and reentered combat for the achievement. I did this with no one else around me though, if there are, be careful of those who walk over you to hit you with the flames.
The ball of fire did hit me, but the creeping inferno didn't start, as I wasn't in combat at the time. Don't worry when the ball hits you, it wont do any damage.

One of the harder achievements to get the right way if there are more than one player engaging the mob but one of the easiest to "cheat".
Creeping Doom will be cast at all players in range so when there are 2 or 3 people or more there are few places to run to avoid the flames.
However standing down the hill after starting the fight and attacking when mob is at 50k works fine.

I read everything on this page and the actual Ready for Raiding II page. Latency kept screwing me over, or other players kept screwing me over. It came down to getting a party of 5, all people with a stun (NOT INTERRUPT) and alternate them. If she can't cast it, she can't get you with it.

It seems like no matter what I do or try, I can't get this achieve. I'm trying *everything* mentioned here in the comments, and I'm starting to wonder if people nearby getting hit by it, even when they're not in your party, could cause you to fail. I know for a fact, thanks to both the combat log and Recount, that I haven't once taken damage from Creeping Inferno.
But lo and behold, the last time I tried it, I was tracking Ungrouped people, and a rogue who sat on the boss full-time got hit by it.
Edit: The weird thing is, when I decided upon this and saw it happen again to some random Warrior who charged in half-way through the fight, I ran out and down the slope deciding to try it again after he leaves.
And that time I got credit. I'm thoroughly confused at this, and I'm convinced there is something buggy with the Devout Harbinger part of this achieve. It looks as though, when the credit for the quest flashes up on your screen, if you're not in combat with the Harbinger, but have dealt damage to it, and never got hit by the Creeping Inferno damage, you'll get the achieve credit. Or something like that.

This thing is really bugged and hella annoying.
Tried everything, as mage, using invis at several points, dropping and picking up the quest several times, getting out of the area so I don't even get hit by the initial unavoidable spell that "marks" you for the following flames. There were several tries when I 100% didn't get hit by crap and still didn't count for the achievement. Tried about everything I can think of or that's said here in the comments.

ok so the way that I did this was. I would start up the fight and tag the mob (any attack works) after tagging it i would run away from the mob keeping my distance but staying in combat with it, I left the giant tree to do all the damaging work and if i dropped out of combat i would run up and tag him again (works best if you're alone) just stay out of creeping infernos range but stay in combat and you got yourself an achievement kill

I dropped the quest made sure I had tagged the boss then proceeded to do nothing but insta cast spell while running. I did get the creeping inferno dot on me but took no damage. The no damage seemed to be the key

My wife and I got it this way:
We started off trying the jumping and stuff; that doesn't work. After my wife got hit, she abandoned the quest and went off to get it again, but I hadn't been hit yet so I kept hitting the mob. By the time she got back from getting the quest, I had been hit, but I was still killing the harbinger. My wife was about half way up the hill when I killed it, and she got credit towards the achievement.
So, I abandoned the quest and got it again, stood about half way up the hill making sure to stay in combat but out of range of creeping inferno while she went in and killed it. I got credit towards the achievement as well.

So it seems you all are saying the exact same things as the people on the forums. Yet everyone is having different issues, and yet some are able to get it, and some still are not. So, talked to a GM.
I already searched the wow forums, and I searched wow-head as well. I want to know, if there is indeed something wrong with this part of the achievement causing some players to not get proper credit, despite doing the even properly. There are many different reports on the forums about this, but not a single blizzard answer. Some people, same as me, are claiming that the event is impossible for them to complete, regardless of how many different ways they have done it. While others have gotten it with some exploit or another. Is there, or is there not, something wrong with this part of the achievement, causing some players to not receive credit?
Here's the GM's answer.
I am very sorry for the trouble that this has caused for you in game. With this specific issue, we will need to have the development team investigate it further. They have the tools necessary to investigate issues like this further. But I wanted to thank you for taking the time to submit your report. We really do appreciate the feedback. I wanted to assure you that the Development team be doing everything they can to get this resolved as soon as possible =)
We understand your frustration with the issue and I assure you that we are doing all that we can to resolve the issue as soon as possible for you. For updates on the issue please feel free to visit our customer service forums at

At least it wasn't "this is working as intended", so I hope that this means that there just might be someone wrong with the progress for some people. :)

1) You do not need the quest to advance this achievement. The quest does not even have to be in your journal.
2) You MUST get the tap in order to get credit. If the mob is grey, you will not get the achievement no matter what you do.
3) You can stand down the ramp in order to avoid getting targetted by inferno. As long as the harbinger dies while you have the tap and have not been hit by anything, you will get credit.
I recommend you hit the harbinger immediately as soon as she is a valid target and then run down the ramp. Let the treant and other players finish her off. Don't run so far away that she unloads from the client or you may not retain the tap or get credit. Group with other players of your same faction to reduce contention for the tap.
I did it this way on 4 characters and verified all the facts I have written down. If you want to do it a different way, you can try ensuring that you are not moving when inferno is cast, and then move the instant the spell finishes. This seems to work pretty well to avoid that seemingly unavoidable first tick of it when it is cast.

If you're a warlock you can drop your portal on a ledge on the east side (ancient charhounds on your left you can ignore). Start the fight, put up a corruption & bane of doom; now teleport. Let other people take the Devout Harbringer. You get credit.
Works for other classes too, just might get hit while running up there. :p

She is certainly an annoying part of this
achievement
but it is doable. You don't need to go down the ramp but you will need to do a lot of strategic running around to avoid the
Creeping Inferno
.
Start the encounter and be sure you get the tap (it is preferable that you pull this off when there aren't others around to make this harder on you)
Get in some good hits and start running away towards the dogs on the outer edges.
YOU ARE OKAY if you get hit by the
Creeping Inferno
debuff initially and upon her casting of the spell. This will immediately dissipate if you keep moving and in your wake, a line of flames will begin to trail along after you no matter where you go.
DO NOT go into the flame trails or you will get the
Creeping Inferno
debuff for sure and spoil this part of the
achievement
.
After she casts
Creeping Inferno
, loop around and back to her being sure to watch your step and go in for a couple more hits. Let
Witherbranch
do the bulk of the damage as you whittle her down during your sweeps passed her.
Once the encounter is over and if you avoided the debuff from the flame trails, you should be good and have gotten credit.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Confirmed, you DO NOT need to have the quest open for completion to get this done. I had her dead from one of my tries and was still able to summon her again to get it before I turned it in.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: Confirmed turning in the quest will remove your ability to summon her again. Also, you can do this with others around ... though I am not able to confirm if you get involved in the encounter and do not have the tap that you can complete it. Just know with others around, you will have a lot more flame trails to avoid which can get rough with 2 or 3 others around to create more of them. =(

EASY WAY FOR A ROGUE:
1.)Stealth and stand behind her.
2.)Wait for someone else to start the fight, but be the first to hit her (IMPORTANT)
3.)Vanish and sprint to the charhounds.
4.)Run around (I jumped when she cast her special attack) and let other person finish the fight (Do not re-engage)
5.)Collect your achievement

So after trying various methods here as a ret pally I finally tried something of my own.
First off, if other people are around, running down the hill will just get you screwed out of your achievement. You can get trapped down there without a way back up due to fire trails.
I tagged the mob after starting the quest (you do not have to be on the quest, but you must be on it in order to start the event) so your options are either to have a party member on the quest or be a mob stealer which is not cool. After tagging I ran to the far right of the little area and stood on the small hill there on my mount out of combat. I moved forward and backward in order to keep the mob in my view and then ran in at about 200k health to kill her. You can jump out of the awful stuff she does and keep moving. Be mindful of other people as this can really mess you up. It took me about 10 tries because horde were around and leaving fire trails everywhere.

So here's a way that worked for me and may work for others.
Did the Druids quest today, not Shadow Wardens, and had Thisalee Crow as the companion. She regularly put down wind tunnels to increase your jump. The moment before the cast lands, use the tunnel. You'll be in the air when it lands and won't get hit by the first tick.

Just got this part of the achievement. After countless times trying (running & jumping didn't help, or maybe someone stole my first hit, I don't know), I retook my quest again after a couple of fails, returned, just to see two others were engaged. Bored, I just ran around on my mount, dodging the flames from creeping inferno. She threw her ball @ me twice, but for some reason while running around on the mount I never got hit & never got the debuff. Fight ended, and I was surprised to see I completed that part on my tracked achievement. I never hit the Harbinger, nor talked to the tree and I didn't complete the quest. I don't know if the other two completed the achievement successfully. For me this achievement is completely unclear how to get it, but just wanted to share it as an option for others to try out.

Grouping for this helps a lot.
Have one person start up the encounter. One member of the party stays and fights, the rest go down the ramp and get out of combat. Right before she dies, move up the ramp. Repeat again for the player that stayed behind the first time. Everyone will get credit.

As a hunter, dismissed pet, started the encounter, got the tag (I think.. there were several others there, so I can't be for sure. I know the mob was not greyed out to me anyway.)
I got this after at least five tries. I never dropped the completed quest. I simply just waited until I could talk to the Protector, then started the encounter again.
Never took damage, never saw the debuff pop up on any of the tries, yet the first 4 still failed.
To be honest, on the fifth try, I have zero idea what I did differently than the first four. I jumped randomly and never stopped moving. Never ran through the flame trails, tried running down the ramp and waiting, etc. I wish I had better insight on it. I guess I just managed to dumb luck myself into the proper method. =/
(The fact that having pets out counts against pet classes when pets are not anywhere near 'controllable' enough to avoid the special attacks, ie they can't jump, can only run in a straight line to you, can't navigate the 'mazes,' etc. seems bugged, or an oversight.)

For the
Devout Harbinger
, I highly suggest turning on Projected Textures and turning your Particle Density up so that the fires are easy to see, if they aren't already set that way.
With low video settings, the fires may seem transparent making this achievement harder than it really should be.
In addition to this, any movement speed increases can also help on this fight, especially for melee (
Swiftness potions
, sprint, dash, etc). Sometimes you may get the debuff and fail the achievement even though you may seem a few yards away from it due to latency.
Don't forget about
these
, too!

The way I have found out how to do this is to
stay at max range no matter what
. What I mean by max range is close enough to have her targeted but far enough to not be able to cast on her. When she cast Creeping Inferno she will put a debuff on all players nearby and if you are affected by it you will fail the achievement, even if you take no damage. You must be far enough to not get affected by it.
Tag the mob when the encounter begins, dot it if you can, and run away. Usually the Ancient Charhound packs on the sides are far enough. You must watch out though, because the boss moves. If you lose sight of the boss (she drops from your target and is out of range) then you will probably lose your tag.
Best of luck to anyone working on this part of the meta!

Wow. How bugged can an achievement get? Here is how NOT to do this........"Avoid the special attack". If you simply avoid the attack, you will not get it. Nice.
If you get the debuff "Creeping Inferno" at any time during the fight, you lose. No amount of jumping, or running, or being "so far away from it you cant believe it" will help you.
You have to cheat, and apparently, thats how Blizzard wants it.
So heres how you can do it.
1. Make sure you are the one to start the quest and get the first tag.
2. Run away, invis, whatever
3. Mount up and run around the boss in circles. You can run right through the stupid flame. You can get hit square on with the initial fireball. You will not get the debuff. Stupid, yes
4. When the boss is at very low health, dismount and finish her (making sure she has just cast Creeping Inferno so that you have time before the next one.
There are several variations of this, but it worked. Its a shame, but whatever.

After several attempts with 10+ people not getting credit, even though we weren't getting hit, (some attempts she wouldn't even get to cast it) we all joined a group to see if that would help. Got it on the first try after that. So if you have a lot of people going for it at the same time, group up!

She certainly does seem buggy. Tried it several different ways and finally got it after maybe 6 attempts. I was alone and without my Felhunter; no one else was fighting her at all. Put a few dots on her, ran to the left (from the entrance) near the Charhounds. Dropped combat, even got far enough from her a couple times that she dropped as my target. I didn't get hit by anything at all. After she cast her last Creeping Inferno at around 9%, I ran back and finished her off. This method doesn't seem to work for everyone, though. All I can advise is keep trying different methods until you get what works. I tried running around and jumping a few times, didn't work for me but seems to do it for others.

After many failed attempts, I waited until no one else was around, started the event, and ran away without tagging the mob. I got on my mount and waited over with the dogs until she was almost dead, ran in, stunned her and burned her down before she cast anything. Success! The key for me was not getting aggro in the beginning, since I didn't hit her until she was about to die. This only worked because there were no other players around to tag her.
People keep asking about abandoning the quest. The quest is irrelevant. If you have it, don't have it, have it completed from a failed attempt, it doesn't matter. The achievement is separate. You only need the quest to summon the mob, and not even then if someone else summons it for you.

The proper way:
1) Engage fight, pretty sure you need to have tagged it.
2) Watch for Creeping Inferno, Start running, a fire will splash at your feet and a Meteor will track you, right before you see the fiery-rock hit you, JUMP.
3) You MAY see "Creeping Inferno" debuff pop-up, but if you did it right it will go away quickly. If you did it wrong, your character will be on fire.
4) A ground fire will follow you in a line. It's not tracking where you've been, it is following the shortest line to you. Kite the fire.
5) While kiting the fire, do not cross other fire paths.
Rinse Repeat.
I found it was easier with only 1-2 people around as there are fewer fires to watch out for.
The easy way:
I can also confirm that you can have party members down the entrance-ramp and out of range get the achievement.
My dailies partner could not get this due to graphics/lag issues, so I engaged her and did my best to avoid things.
I DID get hit on this attempt,
however my partner got the achievement anyway.
She was considered in-combat due to being nearby my fighting, but never had Creeping Inferno cast on her.
With a friend, you could easily swap out and both get the achievement without either one of you actually dodging the fire.

Here's the easy solution for mages.
1. Tag her
2. Blow her up like there's no tomorrow
3. with about 150k left, pop Invis (this resets the achievement)
4. Blow her up again
5. Kill her without her casting Creeping Inferno again
6. BOOM Achievement points
I did this and finally earned my Flamebreaker title. This should work with any other class that can pop out of combat. This way you don't have to run around and risk losing aggro and someone else tagging it.

As a hunter, feign death as she was casting Creeping Inferno seemed to prevent the flaming boulder from coming my way, but I did have to get up and keep away from the wall of fire.
Also, I had better luck just running when the boulder came at me on times FD wasn't available, not jumping. My latency seemed to mess up the timing of when it visually looked like it was going to hit the ground and when it actually hit. If I just spammed jump key, I was about 50/50 on getting the timing right.
Frankly, I feel like some of these MF achieves aren't so much about your reflexes or timing or skill as they are about your latency! Its very frustrating, and frankly its a big issue I have with a lot of Cata dungeon and raid mechanics. grrr.

So I think I may have found the trick to this one. I tried it multiple times and it worked every time. At first I would just run in a random direction away from the creeping inferno spell but I soon realized I would still get the debuff. After a few tries I though "hey maybe I should run in a strait line". Turns out it worked. Maybe I got lucky, but if you run in a strait line (for a few seconds) you shouldn't get the debuff.

After doing this three times without taking any damage but still not getting credit, I took a green poster's advice and left the area after initiating the fight and tagging the mob with a couple quick Arcane Shots. I left my pet on her and hit Kill Command when it came off CD, but I stayed down the entrance hill out of range. Worked like a charm.

SO FRUSTRATING AND NOT FUN
. I guess I really am "Ready for Raiding". Heh.
But seriously, what was the point of this? Spent the better part of an hour trying to get it. Running around and casting dots doesn't do it. Jumping at the right time is easily defeated by the lag boss. So the only way to get this achievement is to
run away
and
drop combat
? Pray tell me, when the heck do I do that as a strat in my raids?

Mages only:
Done it with another mage and 2 priests.
1. Get a group
2. Avoid the 1st

3.
Ice Block

4. Let the group kill the mini boss
5. Achiev

You can't just use one method on here.
First off, I've done runs where I did absolutely nothing wrong, never got hit by anything, never got the debuff, and didn't get the credit. Why, you ask? Shadow Appiritions, one of the priest talents, they are targetable, have health pools, and act as "pets." I've asked other people on my server this, and it seems they failed if they kept their pets out.
Step one: Dismiss all pets. (Or if your a priest, just switch to holy or disc).
Now, one of the above posts says to jump just before or as the fireball is hitting you, awesome idea, do it. Doing this while moving the entire time helps tremendously.
Step two: Jump and run! Easy as that!
Now, some of you may have noticed that Thisalee will place nice swirls of air on the ground, guess what they do! They launch you across the ring! Can you guess what step 3 is?
Step 3: Use the swirly to launch yourself away from the Creeping flames. This allows you 10 good seconds where you can just blast the Harbinger. Another swirly spawns near you and your flames are getting close, use the swirly to launch you away again, rinse and repeat. Makes the fight much faster.

You do not have to run out or Kill Yourself.
You fail achievement if you take damage from
Creeping Inferno
Too Simply put it ....anytime she puts the debuff on you...JUMP, the debuff falls off if you jump before the debuff ticks dmg on you. I ran inside the area her and Tree were and just ran around, jumped and dotted the entire time.

Obviously some people don't get how to do this and say it's bugged, but it isn't.
First things first, you need to tag the mob. If someone gets it before you, just run back down and wait for the next respawn.
Second, the more people that are there the harder it will get.
The move you want to avoid is called creeping Inferno, she summons a inferno at your feet and from that point a flame trail will follow you. If you are running in a direction when she does the attack, you might get lucky and avoid it, but the real way to do this is to get inside one of the two wind "torrents"that spawn in the area and jump.
The torrent will throw you in the air and forward so you are safe from the inferno. Get back and get a few hits in and then run for the next torrent.
If you have 5 people in the area and even if you get to tag it,the mere amounts of fire trails will make you fail.
Good luck.

I had the opposing faction kill me while I was engaged in combat (I play horde and had some alliance players kill me) and I ran back to my corpse and stayed in ghost form until she was at around 10% after she casted her creeping inferno spell. Then I popped and burned her down. Got my credit after 6 different strategies I tried before this one.

Having done this on several characters I can honestly say that it is doable but indeed very frustrating. Having done exactly the same thing during several attempts, checking Skada info, I cannot shake off the feeling that it might be bugged.
Anyway, stunning the works as do Death Grip as an interrupt, regular interrupts won't. Jumping clears the debuff and levitate dopes indeed help.

The tactic to tag her first then run down the hill works. Me and a pally friend both got it when we took turns tagging. My pet despawned as I ran down the hill so you just have to hit her few times and run back to a safe distance. Works like a charm.

Here is a trick Myoku of Doomhammer showed me.
1) Be in a party.
2) Tag the mob first. I don't know if you need the first tag, because we had it.
3) Run to the far west end beyond the hounds.
4) Stand there while the Devout Harbinger is killed by your groupmate.
You might need to make one jump. If you get a fire trail, then you jumped at the wrong time. The right time to jump doesn't make a fire trail under you.

Ok guys, i even created an account with Wowhead to help you out. I've done this on two characters (yes, i have no life some days). Both of my characters are melee, deathknight and warrior. The trick is to grab the portals and run around jumping while you wait for safe time to come back in melee range to whack her. I actually got hit by the inferno while doing it and just ran way out to the corehounds on the right side and came back and it showed achievement completed even though she was still alive. So it seems to me that if you wait it out it will still work.

Best way to get the achievement?
Go there, and start the fight. Let your pals do the dirty work.
When she casts creeping inferno, DO NOT MOVE, get it all, and let the fiery death embrace you.
Walk back from the realm of the dead, right behind your enemy, but DO NOT RESURRECT.
Wait until she has around ~50k hp, resurrect, one-shot ambush, arcane blast, obliterate, mind blast or whatever her, and voilà, here's your credit towards the achievement!
I used this to get it :)

To get the achievement easily to melee class:
- Start the fight and play some sec
- Leave the fight and drop the quest
- Go back to questgiver and get the quest again
- Go back to Ragnaros' Reach where Ancient Tree is still fighting
- Stay behind and join to the fight when
Devout Harbinger
has only 2-3% health, kill him and win

I spent over 2 hours last night trying to down her but with no luck doing everything listed here so i decided to leave it to early this morning, so i kept the quest i didnt hand it in from last night so she would still be there this morning.
So i went up and heypresto noone else was about to disrupt my attempt so i set the tree off on his way and got the first hit on her putting my DoT on her and then a quick hit from my judgement and then ran to the left side where the dogs are sleeping and stayed there still in combat with her but out of reach of her spells.
but then she jumped too far away from me and i lost combat so i just ran my lil legs off back to her and hit her a couple of times and made my way back to the dogs (remembering to jump twice just b4 the end of her cast of creaping inferno and when the fire ball comes to you) just incase your not quick enough to get away.
but anyway just to confirm i did loose combat with her but regained it and still got the achievement :) so best advice is to try her when there is noone about in offpeak times of day :)

After many (failed) attempts and lots of frustration I *finally* nabbed this one yesterday! There seemed to be no consistency as to why it didn't click but the perseverance paid off.
Special thanks to Boopsie (Goblin Mage) and Chaulon (Troll Druid) on Blackwater Raiders... despite being Horde to my Alliance main they stuck around and piled on the DPS and sympathetic emotes until I got it. For those who still don't have this one, just keep trying =]

If you get hit with the Creeping Inferno, just run out till you are out of combat. Getting out of combat resets the achievement. You do not have to abandon it and restart this way.
I ran up the ramp and the tree engaged the harbringer. I moved to the back by the dogs while the tree was kicking butt. However the harbringer jumped a bit too close and cornered me. I got hit while standing near dogs still mounted. I ran down the ramp and was taken out of combat. I decided to see if I could just go back in (like the above post) and take he/she/it out at 50k or so and it worked perfectly. I didn't do anything but 50k damage at the end!
No need to abandon or reset anything, just run away till out of combat and then try again!
I got my achievement thanks to this method without even realizing it at the time.
When I got the quest and ran up, it instantly triggered. I hadn't even put in a single hit before I got smacked with Creeping Inferno. Figuring I'd already screwed it up, I came to WoWhead and started looking at comments. I ended up getting hit with it a second time, both times running until combat dropped.
By the time I read this comment, she was down to 10k health. I barely got in one hit, maybe two, by the time I made it to her. She died, achievement gotten.
It's just lucky no one else hit her during that whole time.

Once she finishes casting Creeping Inferno you will have a fireline start where ever you are standing at. Jumping does nothing; the fireball that falls towards you about a second later does nothing.
All you have to do is MOVE and keep moving once Creeping Inferno is finished, because there will be a fireline that will follow you for approximately 10 seconds and will take the shortest path to get to you, so move in a straight line away from where you were standing at the end of her cast. You also need to avoid any firelines from other players.
You MUST do at least one damaging spell to the boss...the druid I was with was only using Faerie Fire and running around like a nut but wasn't getting the achievement because that spell in catform does no damage. Therefore being in combat isn't enough to get the achievement.
For melee classes make use of the whirlwinds that appear around the area by jumping in them before she finishes her cast and the fireline will start far away from the boss, allowing you to run back in and dps her. Although dpsing the boss is not necessary it will make the fight go faster.
I do not know whether you have to have the initial tag on her as well to get the achievement, but we were the only ones in the area so the tag was ours (less firelines to worry about too). Easy achievement when you understand the fight.

Trying the methods of running out combat, running to the hounds, jumping and running.. none of these worked at all for me. I dps'ed her (solo) while getting hit with her attacks, until she was about 50k with 4 combos when I vanished, came back to use deadly throw, she died seconds later, and bam! Got the credit for her kill.

I solo'd as a L85 Demo Warlock. I had to dismiss my minion because I wasn't getting the achievement with it out. I had to cast my Shadowbolt as soon as possible and try to beat her spell. Then run back down the path. Periodically I would come back and DoT her with Corruption and Bane of Doom. Just for good measure, if I could, I would hit her with a Fel Flame since I could do that while moving. It took awhile and three times the creeping inferno would follow me down the path but I got the achievement. If the creeping inferno comes down the path, stay on the right and go almost down to the end of the path, then circle back up on the opposite side.

Here is now you do this achievement.
1. Find a priest to party with.
2. Have then cast levitate on you.
3. Run in circles around the boss regardless if your melee or caster.
4. Dont stop moving.
5. Hit all your instant attacks.
6. Profit?

Eziest way to do this is get quest, run up get in combat, leave, get out of combat wait for a few you can keep checking to make sure of her life just as long as you get back out of combat if you get hit by creeping inferno... when shes low wait for her to cast creeping inferno before you engage in combat again, pop all cds and blow her up before she casts again.

If you are a Mage with Improved Blink, you can just nuke her from maximum range, then as soon as she starts casting Creeping Doom, just Blink away in the opposite direction and run until the cast is finished. Then immediately run back into range.

How frustrating! I have tried waiting to join the fight until late in the game, allowing others to take her health down most of the way, no accomplishment credit, but I get kill credit on the quest. Have also tried initiating the fight, staying out of range until 1/2 way through, same result. Even did the whole thing without taking any damage at all, and got the same result. After each attempt, I am abandoning the quest, and re-acquiring it. Does anyone else get this? What am I doing wrong? Do I need to wait until the next day she comes around and get it first try?

Once I'd read up and decided on the easy method (tag and run away) I abandoned quest. Rode back to pick it up again. When I got back to the Reach, Witherbranch was still in combat and Devout Harbringer was down to 10%. Couple of Mutilates had her dead and qualified me for ach.
Curious to see if engage and abandon will work on the other Lieutenants.

I'm not sure if it was already mentioned... but if you're an enhancement shaman, do NOT send your wolves in after her during Creeping Inferno. Even if you don't touch the fire, you will get a -1500 hit against you just to screw the achievement up if you send your wolves in. Pretty much some bullcrap, but that's just how it is.

Just a note on what worked for me. I killed her today dozens of time trying to get credit for this achievement. If you do get hit by her special ability, don't give up and just dps her down. Run out until you drop combat and then run back and pick it up again and it should reset your ability to get the achievement. Worked like a charm for me today. I got hit with her about fifty percent health, ran out and dropped it then came back about fifteen percent and got credit.

She is a Druid of the Flame, uses cat form too. The jump tricks did not work for me, neither did the running away from the creeping line of fire... avoided the debuff and still did not get credit for achieve.... finally we got credit (a pair of worgen hunters)... pet took damage, and I still got credit. What we did was one of us fought, and the other waited at bottom of the ramp... close enough to gain credit but far enough to avoid the spellcasting.
I did it with pet engaged in combat and got credit, he did it with pet dismissed and got credit. Either way seemed to work, the catch is of course avoiding that debuff... and the jumping trick did not work for us on 5+ attempts.

Without ganking allies around, I think you can also let yourself get killed by the boss herself, ress when she is almost down and get your credit.

Wait til she's down to around 100K, get one CP, run away, vanish, deadly throw, and sprint away and let the NPCs finish her. Yes, it's cheating, but no matter how much running around I did she'd always get me at least once with the debuff, even though it never did any damage.

If you're a hunter and find this achievement bugged (like I did today), restart the event, tag her and feign death before she starts casting her first Creeping Inferno. Wait until the NPCs (and your pet) get her down to cca. 500k health, then wait for another cast of Creeping Inferno. When the ball of fire hits you, get out of FD, and nuke her.
I killed her several times without even a scratch and no debuffs appearing, but didn't get achievement credit. Perhaps Blizzard fixes this in future patches, but until then it seems cheating is the only way for solo gamers.
One poster said leaving combat resets achievement. I can't confirm that as it didn't work for me.

Behold- the bare minimum!

1.
Both of Thisalee Crow's Quests

Note: You do not turn this quest into her; the quest ends back on the surface, so you must take the tunnel back up to turn in this quest. When you turn this in, there will now be offered more quests.

The

Morthis Whisperwing's Quest
being

Just did the Devout Harbinger on my Feral Druid (Cat). It was rather easy. I just ran back and forth collecting combo points until I could use 'Rip' and my damage would keep going while I was running. When I noticed that she was about to cast 'Creeping Inferno'... I just interrupted it with 'Skull Bash' or 'Maim'. No dying involved. Just keep in mind you cant really stop moving except to get 1-2 combo points off. Also if you miss interrupting 'Creeping Inferno', it will be cast on you while you're running. So if you don't stop running it will never hit you and will always be behind you from the very first 'tick' of damage. Just remember it leaves a trail so don't run back into its path that it created by chasing you. If you keep running in large circles you'll be fine. Hopefully this will help may others who have had some difficulty.

Okey I did this on my rogue and it worked to 100% for me
I started to attack her and got hit by one of her spells. She was around 500k at the time.
I decide to Vanish and abandom the quest and then run down and take it again and kill her, she was still around 300k at the moment I came back.
It worked like a charm and I got the credit for it.
So for ppl that can get out of combat (not sure if u need to get out of combat to get credit)
Just
Vanish > Abandom quest > Run down and take it again > Run up and kill here without getting hit
I tried the same for Ancient Firelord to dps get hit by he's spell, vanish, abandom quest and take it again. It worked without any problem to.
When I did this so was I the only person that was around her at the moment!

Took a quick look here to check what the ability I am supposed to be avoiding is, and read a few comments about jumping or using levitate to be off the ground the exact time the big fire ball hits you. I had no interest in doing this, hiding down the ramp or by the hounds. After attempting to use the two cyclones, that I am assuming are meant to be useful in this encounter, to no avail i came up with this. I simply would dps until target started casting and i would start moving (basically kiting the creeping fire ) in a large circle around the Devout Harbringer. Re-applying DoT's and spamming instants on the move and stopping to burn her down whenever possible. No need to jump. Just start moving when the cast starts and circle the Harbringer at max casting range..... or melee just circle away from target when cast starts and back to target to dps some when safe from fire and repeat .

I have no idea, why it worked now, but it did after the x.th try. I had several trys, when i didnt get any dmg (used the jump stuff, several jumps + side step running when cast ends).
But it just worked after i already finished the quest (didnt get it new as in the previous trys but also didnt turn it in this time, just had the "quest complete" tag). Just talked to witherbranch again after the NPC respawned.
So, April 2012, its probably still bugged.. I dont really see a thing i did different as in the previous trys, but as mentioned, it did work somehow..
So, one thing for sure. You dont need to abandon the quest and retake it. Its any other bug, but not this one. ^^

FOR ANYONE STILL TRYING TO GET THIS ACHV I CAN TELL YOU HOW!
I tried for an hour and a half and the only method that works is tagging her with a dot or something quick so then you can run out of combat by going down the ramp. Just wait until she is at about 100k and then burn her. As long as
you
tag her first and then
stay out of combat
you
WILL
get the achievement.
I finally got it after months of waiting for her. My priest Aimiya now has a new title.

Behold, how to do this in a perfectly legitimate manner: Run in a straight line as much as possible, all the time, especially when she's casting her spell. You don't really need to do damage, the treant-guy should be able to beat her. As a resto druid I healed him, so it helps, but he is the more damaging. Just keep him out of fire and he will be fine. If you fail, wait for her to respawn and speak to the treant again, no need to abandon the quest.
Aside from that, make sure you tag her with some kind of spell or attack. You only need one for it to count.

I shot her, feigned death, waited 3-4 minutes until she was under 100k and cast her creeping inferno. I finished her off and got that part of the achievement out of the way. Easy. I could have made toast while waiting.

Most difficult one so far... half a dozen times, I'd get barely in range, tag the mob and get hit by an instant cast of something or other (I mean, cast LB, turn to blink away and as I turned, DBM is screaming at me!). One time I ran out of combat (seems one has to almost run into the next zone for combat to drop), creeped back up the ramp, did a tar to see her health, when she was down to almost nothing, ran up, tagged her and immediately ice blocked. Guess not quick enough because I'd swear she was dead and STILL I got hit.

i had issues getting this achievement also. i found it easier to group with someone, let them fight the harbinger, then flipflop, killing it twice. u cant take any damage AT ALL.

I did this just 2 mins ago and i managed to complete on my 2nd try. I tagged her then ran down the hill out of combat. I kept going back up to see how much health she had left, when she got 100k I went back in and finished her off. good times :D

Completed on my DK using bug with abandon/re-take quest since regular way is broken. I did not take any dmg during whole fight, but the achievement was still not complete. Maybe thats why Blizz didnt fix the abandon/re-take method.
