Both of them are pulled together so it is best to tank them near the ramp where they are standing. Skarvald will randomly charge party members while Dalronn will drop agro randomly and only casts shadowbolt. You can either kill them at the same time or kill them seperately. The order in which they are killed, does not matter. If one dies before the other, the remaining boss will create a black spirit of the deceased. The spirit will not be targetable, cannot be killed, and has the same abilities it did when it was alive.
Skarvald the Constructor:
Health: 87,144 HP

: Debilitates the target, lowering melee attack, spell casting, movement, and ranged attack speeds by 50%. Deals 750 Shadow damage every 2 sec sec. for 8 sec.

Shadow Bolt
: Hurls a bolt of dark magic at an enemy, inflicting 2700 to 3300 Shadow damage.
Strategy:
The Skarvald and Dalronn encounter is a twin boss fight much like Romeo & Juliet in Karazhan. They come together when pulled so be prepared to pick both of them up.
The kill order in this fight dosent matter so much, although when one dies, they spawn a spirit that is not targetable and behaves exactly as it’s alive counterpart. This means that it is suggested they both die roughly at the same time.
Dalronn is a caster-type and casts Shadowbolts while randomly dropping agro, Skarvald is a warrior type and will randomly charge a group member.
The preferred strategy is to dps Skarvald down to 10% then kill Dalronn, returning to finish off Skarvald. This is because when you kill Skarvald he usually will charge a random person (i.e. healer) and because he has no agro table, he will continue to attack them.

The underlined part is very important. It means that the first of the 2 bosses to die will ressurect as a spirit and becomes immortal and untargetable until the second boss dies. This is very nasty, as the healer can overaggro the tank due to this and become his victim, and the tank cannot aggro him directly. So the best way to kill this duet is to kill the 2 bosses at exactly the same time, so that the "spirit" boss does not cause much troubles.
There is a hidden theory, though. Paladins may have a better time at controling the spirit boss using the damage from consecration and Holy Shield, since these abilities can do damage at the spirit without targeting him directly, through a aoe and damage from blocks. Also, the paladin's taunt ability targets a player and not the spirit himself, so there is a chance that the spirit can be aggroed through this. If this works then the first boss to go in this situation is Skarvald, since the other one drops aggro constantly, leaving the tank with an always (and probably) solid amount on threat on the ghost.
Can anyone confirm if this strategy involving the paladin tank can be done?

The last two times that I've killed these two (9/16/2008 and 9/13/2008) they have not dropped any BoP loot whatsoever -- just some silver off of Dalronn.
Has anyone else wound up lootless after killing these guys?

Both Dalronn and skarvald must be killed in relatively close times, which is about 15 seconds.
If you kill one before that time, they turn into ghosts and are untargetable, deadly slightly higher damage.
Only Dalronn drops items.

We took down these two last night. Our group was mostly level 70's and one level 73 hunter(modeslty geared)
After a few wipes, we changed our strategy. Since Skarvald will charge characters at random regardless of threat, we clustered together on the tank, in a tight group, so that any charged character would remain close to the tank and dps. This prevented needless running around trying to pick Skarvald up again. We took him down to 10% then focused on the caster. If you are having problems, this should help a lot.
Keep a tight group.

As Chris said above, both of these bosses will continue to do damage until both are dead. When you kill the first one, they will come back as a ghost, continuing the same attacks and abilities while being invulnerable to any damage you do. Given that, here is how I think the different roles should approach this fight:
Tank
The main tank should be on Skarvald for two reasons. First, Skarvald does rather high physical damage, so if he's allowed to run around freely, squishy casters are going to be dropping left and right. Second, Dalronn has no rational aggro table anyway. He spends the fight firing Shadowbolts at random targets, nothing the tank does will alter who he attacks. My Devilsaur tanked Dalronn just fine and I never even had to hit Mend Pet.
Healer
Contrary to what your first instincts might tell you, I think the healer should be right next to the tank in melee range of Skarvald. There are no AoE abilities in this encounter, so as long as your tank can hold threat worth a darn, the healer shouldn't take damage. Skarvald does have an annoying Charge though, which hits a random target between 5 and 30 yards. This can be problematic for the healer if it happens at the wrong time, so staying within the 5 yards should prevent it.
As I said before, Dalronn will keep firing Shadowbolts for around 3k damage throughout the battle, so you will need to watch the health of the rest of your party (yourself included). Pallies, be sure to put up your Shadow Resistance Aura.
DPS
Dalronn seems to have some magic resistance, but typical weak caster armor. Skarvald, on the other hand, has no resistance. So if possible, put your physical damage dealers on Dalronn and your magic damage dealers on Skarvald. However, there are a few things to keep in mind.
It IS okay to kill Dalronn first.
Since he has no aggro table anyway, it doesn't really matter at what point in the battle he dies, nothing about his attacks on your group will change.
It is
NOT
okay to kill Skarvald first.
When everyone changes their focus to Dalronn, eventually your healer is going to get aggro from Skarvald's ghost. You need Skarvald to be alive and have your tank on him to the bitter end.
Skarvald also has an Enrage effect which is pretty significant. I can confirm that this can be dispelled by a Hunter's Tranquilizing Shot, and I presume a Rogue's Anesthetic Poison. If possible, have one of those classes on Enrage duty.

here's the safest way to do this fight.
1. All dps Dalronn, but do not kill her. Get her to 5-10% health.
2. All dps switch to Skarvald, and DO kill him.
3. Finish off Dalron, while Skarvald's ghost has little time to cause trouble.
Used this strat successfully several times now.

It is a very common misconception that you need to kill both bosses at the same time. As many commenters have noted it makes more sense to
kill Dalronn first
since it gives you a good 5-7 seconds of DPSing while the enemy is reviving and when he comes back he will act the exact same as he did before you killed him.
There is no penalty for killing one before the other and no game mechanic that requires you to kill both at the same time. The only problem you will have is if you kill Skarvald first since he is then free to attack your group while being invulnerable himself.

Why all this focus on "Switch target!"? Nuke the sh*t out of Dalronn, kill, then go to Skarvald.
Easy, needs no slowdowns in DPS to watch the kill, or anything else that can screw up.

Skarvald & Dalronn (Heroic)
This fight is easy once you understand the mechanics of it. If not, it can be challenging and frustrating. Here you must fight Skarvald and Dalronn at the same time.
When the fight starts, your tank should gather up the two bosses as usual. All other members of the party should be hot on the tank's heels and should stay within 5 yards of Skarvald at all times. This is because Skarvald has a random Charge ability that can be fatal to healers or any squishies that it hits. There is no boss AoE during this encounter, so as long as the tank keeps aggro your party should be fine at this close proximity.
Skarvald does little during the fight if you stay close to him because he will not have the chance to charge. If he knocks the tank away, the tank simply runs back to close the gap and DPS stays near Skarvald.
Dalronn chain-casts Shadow Bolt at a random party member for the duration of the fight. This ability does moderate damage but shouldn't be too hard for your healer to cover -- just make sure the healer keeps everyone close to topped off. Dalronn will summon 2 skeletons at a time that will target a random party member. The tank can taunt these off or AoE can take them down. If needed, a party member can break away and take out the adds.
The trick to the fight is that Skarvald and Dalronn should be killed at around the same time. If either Skarvald or Dalronn is killed before their counterpart, a spirit version of that boss will take the fallen boss' place. This spirit version has all of the same abilities as the living version but cannot be damaged. The best way to avoid this is to burn down one boss to 10%-15% and then switch to the other boss. Taking down Dalronn first is slightly easier because if he dies by accident he won't be charging people like Skarvald might.
In short, stay close to Skarvald, burn down Dalronn to near-death, switch and burn down Skarvald all the way and then finish off Dalronn. Take care of adds as needed.

Made me smile, remembering monsters from Dragon Warrior / Quest which would waste a turn "assessing the situation."

Just for grins, I tried Mind-Numbing Poison on Dalronn tonight. I didn't see an Immune message, but the debuff didn't appear either and there was no indication that he was casting any slower. Just in case you wondered. :)

Just for ppl who like to solo things...easy enough as Feral tank with 38k hp 37% dodge ... just keep em ontop of eachother and maul with glyph does its work...never went below 80% hp.

The usual lvl 70 pug will often wipe on this boss if they aren't watching the boss mechanics. Unlike lvl 80 heroic mode, these bosses hit hard on lvl 70s. Here are some tips to prevent deaths:
(1) Kill them at the same time
While the caster isn't tankable, he can be interrupted when he's not a ghost which prevents dps or heals getting hit by too many shadow bolts.
Whatever you do, don't kill the melee boss before the caster boss. That's a sure way to get your healer killed.
(2) Have one of the dps on interrupt duty
Interrupting the caster's shadow bolts will greatly reduce the damage the party takes during this encounter
(3) Have everyone stack on the tank
If everyone stacks on the tank, then the melee boss cannot charge anyone which reduces the damage the party takes during this encounter.
It's often a Charge and a Shadow Bolt at the wrong time that will 1shot a healer or ranged dps
(4) Have a rogue or hunter ready to remove the melee boss' enrage buff

This pair is soloable on heroic mode as a level 85 frost mage, if only barely.
I got it on the third attempt by ignoring the usual advice, and downing Skarvald first. Popped Time Warp at the start, kept Ice Barrier up as much as possible, and after downing him popped Mirror Image to distract his respawn. You'll have to get lucky with FoF procs so you can hit Deep Freeze twice during the fight; remember your pet's Freeze for a guaranteed FoF x2 if you need it. It's also important to not move around much during the fight so you don't get charged. Note that Dalronn's summoned minions don't despawn at the end of the encounter, so you'll have to finish them off as well.
Non-cloth-wearing classes should find the encounter somewhere between moderate and trivial.

Have to deal with him during the Skarvald the Construtor event at the same time as Skarvald. Only one of them drops loot for the event. He's a warlock archetype and Skarvald is a warrior archetype.
