Special Abilities
Sonic Boom – Murmur emotes, “Murmur draws energy from the air…” AoE blast around him for 5000-8500 nature damage and debuffs with, Nature damage inflicted every 3 seconds, movement speed reduced by 90%.
Murmur’s Touch – 15 second debuff after which party member blows up for 2000-3000 AoE Nature damage and gets debuffed with Shockwave, silencing them for 5 seconds.
Resonance – After Murmur has been agro’ed if no one is in melee range he will debuff the party with Resonance increasing Nature damage taken by 2000. He will renew this debuff every 5 seconds and the party will take damage equal to how much extra Nature damage Resonance adds.
For example no one in melee range the party is debuffed with Resonance increasing Nature damage taken by 2000 and whole party takes 2000 nature damage. 5 seconds later Resonance now increases nature damage taken by 4000 and the whole party takes 4000 nature damage, etc.
Strategy
First of all Murmur’s agro range is pathetically low so we can position ourselves around him without too much to worry about. Ranged dps can spread out to avoid Murmur’s touch from hitting more then the person who gets the debuff. We will want our main healer to stand on the outer ring in front of Murmur to avoid line of sight issues.
There are 3 important parts to this fight, first of all when someone is afflicted with Murmur’s Touch no one else should be close this will help with damage control, the silence debuff that comes after can be devastating. Second is Murmur’s Sonic Boom, when he emotes “Murmur draws energy from the air…” either A. all melee exit his circle or B. all melee except the tank exit his circle and the tank should be topped off for the massive damage they are about to take.
The first option is dangerous because of Murmur’s Resonance, since all movement speed is reduced by 90% if the tank is hit it can be difficult to get back to Murmur in time before he gets angry he has nothing to hit. The second option is dangerous because after his Sonic Boom the tank will be low on hp and will need heals immediately, weighing the two options I would say we go with option B. keep the tank in front of Murmur and keep the tank topped off before Sonic Boom and be ready to heal after it hits.
Finally Resonance, as long as the tank is kept up this will not be an issue but if no one is in melee range for Murmur to beat on he can quickly defeat the entire party.

Quick comment on his Sonic Boom, this AE will not kill anyone, no matter your health it is a percentage based AE, I do not know the specifics but with a druid tank who has 13500 health he gets knocked down to 10% everytime no matter where his life is at. As a healer I wait for 4 or 5 pulses then I start a Greater Heal so it lands right as my tank takes the hit.

When the door opens to Murmur's room, it looks a little intimidating. There are many mobs in lines being nuked by some sort of knockdown by Murmur. He looks like an air elemental version of Ragnaros.
In regards to the mobs Murmur is nuking, the first pull will be a 2 pull while the following are 4 pulls until the last pull before Murmur which is a 3 pull.
As mentioned earlier he has a ridiculously small aggro range. A lvl 69 can run around his circle area without aggro. This being said, if you are on the Karazhan key quest and looking for the first key fragment, the arcane container is behind him to the left and you can open it without pulling him. Be warned this hasn't been tried with lower than 69 yet.
Read Lithic's post above for special abilities. I believe he also has an ability to warp someone into the air in front of him which deals a slight amount of falling damage.
Strategy:
Spread out a bit in order to avoid blowing each other up with Murmur's touch. Since this will silence healers after going off, act accordingly depending on your group so your tank will stay up.
Treat this like the Ragnaros fight in terms of dps'ing him down as fast as you can. He will not pull aggro onto ranged attackers so let the tank get some aggro and then melee can go to town as well.
He is positoned in a circular area which is easy to see once you are there. When the sonic boom starts, everyone (including the tank the way we did it) exits the circle. When doing this, melee should go a few meters beyond the circle because I (druid tank) have been hit by the sonic boom while slightly beyond the edge of the circle still. If done correctly this will deal no damage to the party. Whether the tank be a warrior or druid, be prepared to either intercept or bear charge right after the sonic boom hits to avoid his Resonance ability. This sonic boom happened 4 times during our first kill.
Finally, he's not as intimidating as he looks so just keep your cool and you'll have a dead boss in no time. Getting out of sonic boom and avoiding resonance are your only worries.

If you have the option of doing so, tank this boss with a shaman's Earth Elemental, as it has a very strong taunt and is completely immune to all of Murmur's special abilities. The only damage it will take is what little (if any) physical damage Murmur does. It will continue to tank through Sonic Boom, it does not get affected by Murmur's Touch, and it ensures that Resonance will never happen.

What exactly is the range of his sonic boom? Does the tank need to move just out of the flat circle around Murmur? Or should be move beyond the little raised platform that circles Murmur as well?

The use of intercept really helps to get the tank out of range of sonic boom keep this in mind next time your healer gets silenced and you tank takes a hit and you wipe.

Murmur stays in the center of a small depression, with a raised ring on the floor around it. The sonic boom reaches just to the outside of the raised ring. Rogues should be just close enough to hit him. He has a big hitbox, and if you're right up next to him you won't be able to get out of the ring in time to avoid the boom.
And btw, intercept can only be used in berserker stance. Which means your tank is either taking significantly more damage, or is stance dancing and thus has no rage to work with.

2 resto shammies and a prot paladin can trio this boss....
not fast, but this boss is all about timing and good placement...
soon as the sonic bursts waves start, tank must run out to at -least- where the waves start that he 'sucks' in... once you get this down he's cake..
ITS BETTER TO RUN FURTHER then to be to close.. if you're hit by sonic boom you WILL get resonance (unless someone else runs in for you)... but if you're not hit by sonic boom, there is enough of a grace period to easily get back in melee range before he gets mad...
Healer(s) and caster(s) should try and stay near max range, spread out... some people claim to never get hit by murmur's touch.. as a tank i cant verify this...
but as a tank for murmur half a dozen times now... high defense, and good timing and he's cake...
Tanks.. don't backstep out.. you will NOT get out in time..
soon as the first wave hits, sidestep / turn and run, or some combo of the two until you get to where the waves start, and then some... He doesn't resonance until ~5 seconds after his sonic boom goes off -- easy to get back in range AS LONG AS YOU ARN'T HIT... otherwise you WILL get resonance... hope you see my point here :-P

Another good thing to do for this fight is during Murmur's Touch is to designate the tent to the right as a "blast tent." Just helps with organization so there is no confusion and unwanted dmg.
Also when I tanked this fight I found it better to intervene out and intercept back in but you just need to figure out what is best for you.

Just did this easypie on heroic, besides the usual abilities he also periodicly does 2k dmg on everybody in the grp, my VE could easily heal it up so we just did like we normally do and it was really easy, easiest boss in instance imo

Our experiences after 4 wipes:
You dont need to spread out. If you get the touch on you, simply run back to the hut and sit in it. It wont hurt anyone and you wont get booted in the air.
Tank: you CANNOT eat the sonic boom. If you do you cant run back to him in time and he starts tossing out resonates. So, I stood barely on his edge, didnt even look like I could hit him, but I could. His hit box is very large, so use that. I simply strafed one direction to get out of the boom radius, and went back in. If you tank him in the center, odds are you wont get out in time.
Having a druid really help if the healer or tank get the touch. But if the tank gets it, just have the melee DPS back off until you boom. We wiped so many times because I couldnt get out of the boom radius, and it went down from there. Relatively easy with positioning.
So, keys to the fight: tank positioning on his edge and strafing out of boom radius, and everyone else close to the hut if they get the touch (bomb).
I am not sure if he does physical damage or not, if not the tank can prolly use a 2 hander and that will help a lot.

Our tank always "eats the booms" and is not a big deal if he has a lot of health. Our guilds MT reports that a sonic boom takes him down to 20% health regardless of his HP before the boom. So keep him @ ~50% and you are fine as a healer. He hits like a pansy. Tank should use his Commanding shout after a sonic boom until your healer gets into a rhythm.
Having a second healer is nice but not necessary. As your healer can easily top off the tank if they get murmurs touch and your tank should be able to survive through the boom.
I have killed him 8 times or so (first two were tough until we figured it out) but we one shot him the other 6 times.
I am a hunter and, no sonic spear has dropped BTW.

The trick for tanking him is to stand just inside your melee range for hitting him, then you have plenty of time to run out of his aoe range. Just charge in and then back out until it says you're too far and take one step forward

OK there are alot of strats for this fight BUT today (in NON heroic mode) we had the rogue leave us which left Fire mage prot tank pally druid.. so we had ago and spnk him Np's at all war went in and stayed in pally and druid healed him though and as agro dont matter i just went hard on the dps = DEAD Murmur.. unfortunatly still no spellstrike recipe :( so back i go again

Rogues should evasion tank it if Murmur suddenly aggroed on you.
Taking over-dps out of the equation. That probably means that the tank has died or has moved out of range (it IS a little hard to see anything if you're behind Murmur stabbing him). You do not want to move out of range at any time because this will trigger Resonance, which will quickly wipe the party.
He doesn't hit a lot. A thousand or two, non-heroic. It's possible to tank it from 40%-0% in my grand marshal gear. Which gives me around 11k buffed.

two tips:
as a tank, i stand as far away from murmur as i can and still melee, so that the run to avoid the sonic boom is as short as possible.
one run, i was the only melee, so i thought "hey, i'm a paladin and there are no aggro problems, i'll stand in melee range and heal". bad idea -- turns out that it is getting HIT that prevents resonance. if i stand right in front of him and heal he WILL do resonance.

Just a quick note regarding that attack where he draws you in like a magnet.
I found in my fight that if I stood directly behind a pillar the attack would attempt to pull me in i would just end up floating a little way up the pillar. On landing i took very minimal damage.
So I think the casters should stand behind pillars for this fight (as long as you are still in line of sight)

On Heroic, this guy is bit tougher.
EVERYONE needs to stay in Murmur's little pit otherwise you will take 2000 damage every couple of seconds.
Places in the ring need to be designated (right top. right back, left back, left top) in order to control the Mumur's touch victim. When a person gets touched, everyone will be pulled towards eachother. The touched person should stay still while everyone else runs back to their spots. If everyone stays near eachother, everyone will take the 3000 damage.
As in Regular, when he does the Sonic Boom, run out.
Also, make sure the tank or a melee always has aggro. He hurts clothies...

FYI, on Dethecus tonight Murmur was bugged. He hits the group with resonance, pretty much wherever the tank stands. The GM confirmed that this is a known issue, and that they're looking at it.
Our group was all ranged, plus the tank, so that might make it more of a problem.

A little tip for tanks:
When i fight Murmur, i change the cameraancle, so that i look from directly above my char. That way, its easy to see, when Murmur starts his sonic boom, and u can see the way out and just run, no problem getting out in time.
before, I sometimes ran the wrong way away from him, because i couldn't see what way to run. This way, its no probs.

My group downed him on Heroic mode last night. The strategy that worked for us was this:
We all stood bunched together inside the ring. When he cast Murmur's Touch on a party member, they ran straight forward through Murmur to the opposite side of the circle. They then either took the hit or CloS/bubble/etc out of it and ran back to everyone else.
Also, we found out the hard way that the Sonic Boom area and the Shockwave area overlap. It's entirely possible to be Sonic Boomed just outside the center ring, then be killed by Shockwave immediately after. Be sure to get out of Sonic Boom range, then back in the ring IMMEDIATELY or it's entirely possible that you'll get hit by both.

lol, today something funny happened during a normal Shadow Labs run. Our group was a holy pally(me), two fury warriors, a lock, and a rogue. Now, what happened was that our dps warrior and rogue didn't pay attention to the sonic boom charge, so they died right off the start. We three maned it with me, our epic fury tank, and a lock. Took us like less than 5 minutes with us three, i even threw some dps in, and he was downed easily.

This guy is basically a sound elemental, as said in the Codex of Blood. Which is also probably the reason that he has such strange sound effects.
It's very easy to wipe on this guy if you don't know what you're doing, but easy to take him down if you do know what you're doing. The key is to stay on your toes and be ready to run (sprint comes in handy if you're a rogue) as soon as he starts charging his shockwave. (Or, Cloak of Shadows for rogues, Ice Block if a mage, but it's be smarter to save those for murmur's touch.) Be sure to have him tanked at all times, otherwise he'll use his resonance spell and make short work of your group. Plus, when you get Murmur's Touch, run to the lowest ceiling you can find (the tent in front of him is a good place) so you don't take falling damage. But the biggest problem, as said before, is the shockwave. It'll nearly kill everyone other than the tank(provided he's being healed well), and make this encounter harder on the healer.

It's mentioned in the strategy, but it's important enough to be repeated - if you're a mage, Slow Fall will help A LOT here. I was able to stay out of range of his Sonic Boom entirely, but he occasionally sucked me up into the air and drew me towards himself - Slow Fall lets you escape any fall damage from both this and Murmur's Touch.

The "Run out of the boom" strategy is not a good idea, and here is why.
He is too huge and covers a lot of the screen space, thus when u turn and start running, u lose sight of everything for a moment. Then you may find out that you're running not exactly in the right direction. In case you plan to use intervene 1st thing you need to do is to see who of the other party members is available to pick as they have to run a lot around due to his touch. Losing sight may disable you to do so. It also happens that the party member you intervene at is currently touched, and you end up in a nice boom. I tried using click-to-move, first-person view, a macro and so on, but none of the worked 100%. Another problem is timing the run since if you don't intervene and you lose a few 100s of the second to start running you get hit. I tried a lot of things with the running strategy, but in the end it is pure luck to successfully escape the Sonic Boom. Else healer gets sucked in, and it's game over. You know the story.
What worked at 100% is the following:
- at first boom I used an hp boost trinket
- at second boom I used a HP pot and/or healthstone
- at third boom I used Last Stand
- at fourth boom I used Shield Wall
The idea is that you have to help the healer a bit right after the boom, so any HP boost would work. Also as someone noted above a well timed Great Heal / Holy Light would do even without HP boost but that requires some practice = wipes :)
The important thing is to survive the melee hit following the Sonic Boom which is much easier than running out.

If you have a hunter pet with Avoidance (Rank 2) in the group, the whole problem of Murmur casting Resonance can be solved by leaving the pet on him 100% of the time.
Avoidance (Rank 2) reduces all AoE damage by 50%. Sonic Boom at most does 80% of total hp + 12% of total hp over time. Avoidance II cuts this to 46% of total pet hp in the worst case.
I just did it with my Ravager (around 6k hp buffed), and it suffered around 2.5k dmg from a single Sonic Boom. Every healer can heal through that easily, while your tank leisurely walks out of the AoE blast and back without risking Resonance going off.

Much incorrect information here. Lets make it clear.
1) Sonic boom hits for 90% of your current HP
For warriors, this can be reduced with Defensive Stance which is why so many players call it 80%. Its 90%, as a druid with 15933 hit points (semi buffed), i was repeatable times getting hit for 14340 damage.

To avoid taking fall damage when you get Murmur's Touch, run into the nearby purple tent on your right side when you are standing about 30-40 feet in front of Murmur.
By the way, for those who don't know, this boss hasn't really got 410k HP. Atleast not on normal mode (I have only done SL in normal mode per 8.08.07).
He may have 410k if his HP is full, but in normal mode atleast, the fight starts when Murmur is at about 40% HP, if I remember correctly.

I understand how wowhead isn't really the best place to talk about lore and how everything 'fits in'. But Murmur is a cake fight, even on heroic pre-patch, and would be so even at 100% hp. /sigh at destroyers of worlds that five 70's who aren't even kara-attuned can take down.

On heroic there's a bit of luck involved. If you get hit by murmur's touch and get tossed in there you're pretty much a dead duck if he starts his sonic boom during this. Also, if you get hit by his sonic boom on heroic, drink a pot or pop a healthstone bc theres a big chance the thunder projectiles will kill you at 20%.
Personally, I found his sonic boom has a slightly larger radius. I was a couple steps outside the circle and was getting hit by it.

This is for the tanks:
It's really important that you don't stand right near his target aura, you can still taunt and sunder from 1/2 meters back. This is very important as it gives you a shorter dinstance to cover when you're runing away from Sonic Boom. Just check your max range you can tank at and dont get any closer than that.
Don't try and intervene on a party member instead of running away since it won't do much good. You have to be really precise with it, and usually it will just get you wiped as 25yards is not far enough for the sonic boom.

This guy is way too easy compared to the rest of the bosses.
My party last night died 3 times on the MC boss, and 2 times on the 3rd boss, and 0 on this guy...
This guy is very pathetic... I thought the elites in Kara were harder then him.

I just did this guy with Holy paladin (me), 2 mages, 1 warlock and a druid tank.
We tried 2 times to run out of the Sonic Boom, but we just got one shotted afterwards with about 0.01 seconds to get back. Atleast that's how it felt.
Then we had everyone suck up the Sonic Boom, as it cannot kill u, and used HS/pot/bandage afterwards. We made it first try with this tactic, although 1 mage died.
I can imagine this tactic is Alot easier for a priest with aoe heal, or a druid that can put hots on everyone before it goes off.

Not really related to the game, but the name "Murmur" seems to have a lot of inspirations to it:
- the sound he makes (murmuring)
- the DC comics character (which explain his "mask")
But more than any, it seems to be the old mythic demonic being carrying the same name that is the inspiration. The name itself originally comes from the Latin word for noise, and description of the sound a trumpet makes. This would also be the most reasonable explanation to the trumpet like sounds and noises that is present in Murmur's chamber in the Shadow Labyrinth.
To answer your most obvious question; yes I have too much time on my hands to find things like this out :)

Quite an easy fight if you have a good healer.. Killed him twice with same group (1st kill server crashed and we couldnt get out kara frag) so we did the instance again.
Protection Warrior Combat Rogue Feral Druid Frost Mage Holy Paladin
strat was simple, tank remains in place no matter what, rogue and druid will run out of the sonic. its quite hard to run from his sonic boom and very risky if u get hit (tank i mean) u will be -90% speed!
i did intervene healer and intercepted back at murmur, but make sure u have enough rage to use intercept (works fine)
otherwise he quite simple if ur healer knows what hes doing.
was done in normal, yet to try heroic.

I'm not sure if its bugged or not, but I have done Heroic Shadow Labs eight separate times and EACH TIME the damned girdle of ferocity drops...WoWhead.com speculates an 11% drop rate for this thing...but I cant image that it accurate. My fellow guildies have run it as well and thats all they have seen drop too.
Anyone else seeing this issue?

This boss is pie on heroic. Our retard hunter refused to move in the circle and died almost instantly, so we basically 4manned it. Have all dps run out of the circle at the sonic boom, but the tank stays in and uses a HS/potion/LOH/whatever after the boom to get some HP, and you healer should be able to top you off again.
Overall a very easy fight

Dont get too excited when you see his health at 40%. His health isnt 40% of 410,000. The 40% IS the 410,000.

A slight error in the description at top, -Ice Block- will protect you from Murmur's Touch, not Cold Snap, which merely resets the cooldown on IB.

As a warrior tanking heroic Sl, Murmur was the biggest problem because if i did not get back inside the ring in time everyone got hit by his shockwave ability. I was wondering if anyone had found a working, intervene/intercept macro to make this easier.

Important note for if your healer or tank goes down mid-fight...do not try to run out of Murmur's room. We had a pretty bad group going in there, and after wiping a couple times, the tank (me) went down, and the healer decided to take off running down the hall. She was all the way around the corner in the hallway when Murmur took her down. I know Invisibility does work to get out of battle, because our mage did that; so, I'm guessing feign death and vanish (and its equivalents) would work the same way. Just don't try to run out the door :)
Edit: Also, the info at the top is a bit incorrect...the sonic boom does not damage you for 70-85% of your total health, it damages you for a percentage of your remaining health. I was at half health once when the sonic boom hit me, and it took me down to a low (but not dead) health percentage. In addition, the sonic boom is fairly easy resisted, as I resisted it 5 or 6 times in one fight. Be sure to get a hunter to cast his Nature's resistance spell, as that should help mitigate damage a bit.

im not certian why, but after we wiped (healer DCed D: ) and we all came running back, about the time we got to the room vorpil is in, we started getting hit with resonance again, and we all wiped before we ever got into the room with him, anyone else have this issue?

If your a long range DPS class, you can run in a tent behind the combat area to avoid spreading Murmur's touch Aoe dmg to everyone in your party and also avoiding the fall dmg since the top will block the jump
But watch out if one of your party member decides to hide with you the touch will explode and you will be touched.

we had everyone suck up the Sonic Boom, as it cannot kill u
This is the key to beating heroic Murmur, and deserves repeating:
Sonic Boom cannot kill.
Thundering Storm can kill. Resonance can kill. Sonic Boom, by itself, cannot.
This results in the following strategy:
Tank Murmur inside it. Yes, Murmur has a big hitbox. So what? The tank does not. If
Murmur
can't melee someone, he will kill the group with Resonate.
The other group members can either stack on the tank or spread out, at least 10 yards apart, within the raised-ring area. Either approach works. Stacking means only the player hit with the Murmur's Touch debuff needs to run away. Many players in my experience are bad at noticing debuffs, though, and spreading out means everyone merely needs to run back to their original spots when magnetically pulled to the debuffed player. Either way, the debuffed player should
not
go outside the raised-ring area; the shed strategy won't work in heroic because of Thundering Storm.
Other than due to Murmur's Touch, no one should move at all during the fight. Yes, this means healing through Sonic Boom. Obviously a non-paladin healer with group heals is ideal, but a good paladin should be able to manage if he works fast, starting with the tank (who should, Murmur's Touch and Sonic Boom aside, be the only one taking damage).
Why this strategy? In my experience as a tank who almost exclusively runs in pickup groups, most players find it very difficult to run out to avoid the Sonic Boom--not too far, and not too near--then run immediately back into the ringed area before Thundering Storm kills them. If the tank joins in running, Resonance will kill them. It makes sense to avoid the action with the smallest margin of error in favor of a guaranteed, but survivable, attack.

Last night I fought Murmur on heroic, and we wiped a lot due to me(tank) not being able to avoid his Sonic Boom.
My strat is if you have some serious dps, have them ignore their threat list and hit murmur hard and when sonic boom charges, have the tank stay in the circle, everyone gets out, and have tank use a pot/healthstone right after it hits.
Make sure your healer gets out of the circle, we had an issue where she didn't get out in time, but luckily she had a soulstone...but she still died again.
In the end, we were able to kill him.

"Sonic Boom" Get out of the black circle, and a couple yards past, if you don't, you will go to 10% hp with a 90% reduced speed. And if you do get hit, he will AoE own your whole party, including you =)..
Btw, it'll kill you if you get hit by Sonic Boom and his AoE

Just solod on a level 80 premade ret paladin on the beta test realm
Two things:
1. You must kill every mob in Murmur's room, for who knows what reason they all aggro you when you fight Murmur
2. Strategy:
It took about 10 tries to get it down, but eventually I worked out that the best strategy is to just throw on your ret gear and whale on him til he dies, since he's going to throw Resonance on you every time you have to run out for a sonic boom, and eventually it'll one shot you (assuming you can keep from being killed by sonic booms themselves, since bad timing on a murmur's touch can take you out)
He spends most of the fight below 35%, so I was able to throw 4500 damage hammer of wraths into my rotation, which helped out quite a bit
Other than that, it's just standard Ret solo tank 'n spank: Crusader Strike/Divine Storm/Judgement spam with liberal use of instacast Flash of Lights
You'll probably need Divine Shield and LoH to account for miscellaneous bad luck incidents, and be sure to chug a mana pot if necessary

I've had the most success with the tank just eating the Sonic Boom and then healing him. For a priest this usually means a PWS once the Sonic Boom warning comes (Raid Warning Mods make this fight so much easier) then just top him off.
More ranged the better too. One tank and 4 ranged make this fight really easy.

Another option to avoid the Resonance is to have someone who can become immune to this tank him for a while. Ice Block, bubbles and CoS are the most common of them. Don´t worry about aggro when someone is bubbled, if noone else is in melee, Murmur will hit the bubbled player anyway.

Solo'd as a 80 Feral Druid (Naxx25/Ulduar geared). This encounter was a letdown after coming from GM Vorpal. Did not have to run out and barely took any damage. I would say maybe 20% of his attacks actually landed.

I am surprised you had the poor result that you did. I play a fury warrior but have built an os prot set of craftable and rep epics mixed with blues, nothing over lvl 200 and nothing from raids or instances. I also built a prot spec when the dual spec came out. Never properly tanked an instance and key slammed murmer down solo on normal no problem without moving away from him . Luck v bad luck? I don't know.
Edit, looking at what was left of the fight later on in combat log I notice that one of his sonic booms missed me then when one did hit me it was for around 5.5k and ticked for around 1.5k from my 30k hp. If the other 1 had done the same then my commanding shout enraged regen last stand trio might not even have been enough to save the day so possibly luck.

I managed to solo him as a lvl 80 ret paladin in fairly crappy quest greens and blues.
I basically went in, burned him, and as the first boom + touch hit me, leaving me at ~15% health, I used Divine Shield. At the next one, I ran out, and I used a health potion and basically frantically used a mix of AoW'd FoL and HL to keep myself up, and Lay on Hands for comfort, although I think I could have done without.

DKs take note: when he starts casting Sonic Boom, quick jump into Unholy Presence - helps get you out of range a bit more easily. And as long as you avoid Sonic Boom, this fight becomes a piece of cake.

Soloed on Heroic as Feral Druid. In bear I have 27K armor, 33K HP, 38% dodge, and 4500 AP.
Total Piece of Cake.
The hard part is clearing the room. If you don't clear the room first he aggros ALL of them and you'll get overwhelmed. As usual mobs are grouped together. Something important to note; the SUMMONERS MUST DIE FIRST! And unlike other mobs they won't chase you when you run out of range. I aggroed one group to pull but instead of chasing me the summoners just stand there calling a new elite every few seconds.
So you'll have to kill them first while the other 3-4 elites beat on you. I died twice because of this. You will see new mobs spawn every few seconds near Murmur but he kills them after a few seconds. Once you kill off the last of the regular mobs in his room they will stop spawning.
Boss his self was stupidly easy tank and spank. He hits for very little on me so I never needed to heal myself in any way. He does cast "sonic boom" which will destroy 90% of your current hit points. Has a several second cast time. This can be avoided by running out of the ring he stands in.
Don't go too far outside the ring to avoid the sonic boom. Just past the edge is enough. You gain a stacking debuff for staying outside of melee range so run out when he casts the Boom, then charge back in as soon as it goes off. Aside from that it was a total cake walk.

Soloing as an 80 Protection Paladin
At first I attempted to exit his hitbox every time it announced his
Sonic Boom
, however, after a few exits and returns, I noticed that the damage caused by that ability is highly mitigated by level, armor, and resist. So, I changed up my tactic to using
Judgement of Light
to keep my health up and just kept smacking him until he dropped.
Obviously, level plays a strong part in this approach, but don't be distracted by his size. He's more bark than bite.

Soloable. Do NOT run out. Just eat the sonic booms. He cast 3 of them during my time on him.
1st it took 60% of my health away..just healed it.
2nd...missed.
3rd I popped divine shield just before and continued dpsing him.
Use Hammer of Wrath as much as possible after the 20%.
Used other cooldowns as necessary. Very soloable.
48K health, 5.6K GS.
Working on soloing all the BC heroics..having a blast :)

Solo'd in normal mode by 80 sub rogue with 31.7k HP. Kept recuperate up (no Improved Recuperate) and didn't even need to pop CDs to kill him. Sonic Boom got me down to 3k, I may have been lucky.
He was a much easier fight than the other 2 bosses I fought in the instance.

As far as I understand it, Murmur is actually a stand in (sort of) for one of H.P. Lovecraft's
Cthulhu Mythos
gods, Azathoth.
There are a couple of passages in the Codex of Blood that seem to reference Azathoth:
1.)
Long ago, in a dimension of the cosmos unfathomable to mortal minds, there was born - if such a term can be used for it - a being of such unbelievable power that its very entrance into existence shattered all reality around it.
This seems to mesh (in part) with Azathoth, whose 'home' Lovecraft writes as being

Alas, I don't recall the title of the story it was mentioned in, but there were mentions of Azathoth blindly writhing, unknowingly or uncaringly destroying entire worlds, galaxies, and universes regularly.
The biggest thing that leads me to believe Murmur is a reference to Azathoth, though, is the sounds of the horns when you fight him. Azathoth and the sounds of off-tune horns (and drums, for that matter) are almost always mentioned together. A couple of examples:

Last Boss in the instance, and yes he does kind of look like Rags He starts at 40% health, but it doesn't really seem like it.
This guy has a lot of stuff that can be annoying.
1. He puts a 15 second debuff on you that works like the Baron Geddon Bomb from Molten core. So if you get it, get away from the rest of your group, it will do 3k initial damage and will tack on a silence to anyone who gets hit by it.
2. He does massive arcane explosion that does a very large amount of damage and slows everyone hit by it to like 70% of movement speed, so you move REALLY slow. It is very very important that any melee back out when he casts this. You can tell its coming because he will emote and the ground will of a sonic wave type look to it.
3. Somebody at all times, except when casting his arcane blast needs to be in melee range. If you aren't he will do a ranged aoe attack that deals arcane damage and puts a debuff on you that increases arcane damage by 2000 or something crazy.
4. Like rags he will occasionally pull someone through the air too him, not a little fire blast that hits the ground somewhere kind of pull. Just a random pull. It tended to happen to our main healer so make sure to have another person who can heal in the raid there too.
As for the strat.
Have your main tank run in with your healers behind him ready to heal him. If your tank isn't decently geared he will be hit like a rock. Each swing does about 1.5-2k damage if your tank has decent tanking gear. Flash heals will not keep your tank up, like almost every fight in 5 mans now. So your priests will need to be using greater heal if they don't already. He will usually put out the "bomb" debuff once or twice before he does his arcane blast, so when that person comes back to the ground heal them up and continue to dps. When he does his arcane blast, your tank and melee dps need to get out RIGHT away. No if ands or buts. It deals a lot amount of damage and can be very difficult to heal through. Get out, if you get hit by it, it will be very difficult to get back in and tank and he will eat up your raid (it may take a few times to get a hang of the timing). AFter he has done his debuff get back in and dps almost right away. Ranged dps go nuts you can't pull agro since he can't move. DPS him down and get your dungon blue set chest piece along with another blue.

When you're running away from the sonic boom, you can also have a totem like searing totem within melee range to prevent the ranged attack he does if he doesn't have a melee target, because he'll try and smack it, so that'll give you enough time to make sure the warrior can get back into range.

If you can't down Murmur, you can skirt around the outer ring and get the Key fragment. One of the groups I was running with had a really hard time downing Murmur. So they grabbed the fragment, without aggro'ing Murmur.

Just a warrior tip.
If you are tanking have someone stand right in the middle of the hallway who is ranged. When he does his aoe target him and intervene. Gets you out of his aoe range fast with no problems... took a couple wipes to find this out.

ROGUE GUIDE FOR MURMUR:
From my experiences fighting Murmur, I have found that rogues can pretty much keep themselves alive in this fight. I suggest using deadly poison in the off-hand, and shiv'ing the heck out of him and backstabbing if you can (which would involve standing behind him right?)
The reason deadly poison is so good for this fight is because you'll spend a bit of time running off when you get "the bomb" as well as when he's charging up for his sonic boom.
Rogues you CAN stand behind him and keep yourself up just fine, this is how:
1. Do not stand INSIDE Murmur, he's got a very big Hit-Box and if you are far away as possible (yet in range) then you will be able to run away from his sonic boom (against the wall that rests BEHIND Murmur).
2. Run against the wall and out of Line of Sight :O (you can do that?) That's right folks! Out of sight :) There are some column/pillar like things that serve as a nice little shield.
3. Bandage! Us rogues are used to not being healed in PVP, so we should be ready to do the same in PVE! You'll most likely be out of range of heals anyways using my tactic, but you'll come to realize you don't really need heals, except for after you get the bomb, or if you don't manage to escape the sonic boom (which you should be able to do anyhow)
I personally suggest using Cloak of Shadows when you get the bomb, or if you can absolutly not evade his Sonic Boom. I got a little messy with my own strategy, and found myself with only 800 or so health left, but I went right back into the fight (and in range of heals) figuring the only thing I need to watch out for is that sonic boom and random bomb.
By the WAY! With evasion + cloak of shadows (and if you have prep for that second evasion!) You'll be able to hold your own on the boss long enough for you and the rest of the group (if the tank goes down) to do some major damage.
This fight is really cake for rogues :)

That spell does a PERCENTAGE OF YOUR MAX HP (around 75% ish but did not calculate it). I had this land on me for over 14K nature damage with HP GEAR on.
Here is your option for tanking him:
Option A)
Sonic Boom hits you ...
(If most your DPSer are range)
If you chose this one, switch your HP gear off for some evasion gear and nature resist gear. What is going to kill you is likely be the few hits after the sonic boom, if you can shave some of that off, and keep your cooldown for that point in case your healer is
silenced
Option B)
Sonic Boom DONT HIT YOU ...
(if most your DPSer are melee)
Might be tricky since he punts everyone but tank around. Have your intervene macro ready and target you team mate to get out of the ring. Once it LANDs, you better get in there really quick as he has a nasty AOE to the group if no melees are in range.
This might help your healer if your melee DPSer keep getting hit by it ...
Macro to use:

Then intercept back to him

First off, please note that this tip is for heroic mode only. For tauren hunters finding it difficult finding a range where they can shoot and still avoid the thundering storm attack, try using a savory deviate delight. It sounds crazy, but this actually reduces the size of your hitbox, letting you stand slightly closer so you can avoid the TS. From my experience, I was unable to get close enough as a tauren to avoid the TS and still be close enough to use ranged attacks at the same time. I petitioned a GM and he told me this is "working as intended". I guess this is my punishment for rolling tauren hunter :(

As stated earlier, everyone needs to be in the circle except when sonic boom is going off. That's really it. Be sure to stay on top of your personal healing (pots+bandages), hate control (no more ranged uncontrolled dps) and positioning if you get the bomb. We tried the stack on top of tank method, but spreading out worked better for us.
Fire mage (me), resto druid, prot warrior, hunter and warlock. All with 1/2 epics or more.

before you start the fight, look to the left (murmurs right) and you will see a tent. when murmur uses "murmur's touch" on you or a party member make sure you (or the party member) gets under that tent. it wont dispel anything, but it'll keep you from dying of fall damage after u get blown to the roof and fall back down. also, make sure that no one else is near the tent or they'll get hit for the mass damage and get silenced for 5 seconds as well.

Our warrior tank couldn't make it in and out in time, and we found that it is possible to just keep them in range and heal 'em up when the AOE hits. I, the resto druid, was healing, and didn't even find healing him back up that hard. It was the smoothest we've ever done Murmur, and I recommend it to anyone having a tough time :)

I ran Slabs last night and had crazy DPS. These things seemed to work out well:
1.) It helps to have one melee on him. It sounds odd but all you need is the tank to keep attention on him. And, if Murmur is spamming Sonic Booms, the healer only has to worry about the tank.
2.) Spread out evenly and keep your distance. Spell casters should be as far back towards the wall as possible, except the healer who should be positioned behind the tank and in range to heal. And, if you spread equally around the chamber, you have no need to run away from others.
3.) The tank does not have to run from the Sonic Booms. If the tank has potions or healthstones, and if the healer does what is needed, the tank can keep Murmur from long-ranging everyone. I was tank last night and had to use a potion and a healthstone but I doubt I really needed them.
4.) POUND THE HELL OUT OF HIM! He may start at 40% but he hits hard and lasts for some time. DPS needs to pound him constantly or you lose time and mana from the healer whos watching the tank.

As a hunter, i found that when he's charging his sonic boom, a pet can easily absorb it (and because healers usually aren't focusing on pets during 5 mans unless asked ahead of time).
The reason you want your pet in there is because Murmur likes to hit stuff, requiring something within melee range or else he gets mad and starts spamming his range can of "wup ass". With a pet in there that's specced for NR and avoidance, i found that Fluffy (my cat) could tank him for the 2-4 seconds or so that it took for the warrior to get back in range (then you recall pet and /mend) keeping your dps constant.

I tanked this guy 40 times for the shoulderguards of the bold. dont ask why, it was pointless. Anyhow, i feared the sonic blast he did, would = a wipe basicly. However one day i got a healer who insisted that i stand through the sonic blast and aced it. Advantages are:
(a) You are able to keep your threat (if your lacking it)
(b) You do not risk getting caught by the slowed movement, and loss agro or get his ranged attack!
(c) your a lazy (often drunk) tank, get to relax and leave it to you healer.
Please more people do this, it was very impressive.

my group had trouble with this on heroic mode so this what we did.
Group setup:
paladin tank (me)
Resto shaman
fury warrior
fire mage
feral druid
I went to murmur and aggroed him, the rest of teh group followed me spreading out in the inner circe. this is to prevent murmur knocking us back as in heroic he ports us all to one player of the raid and if you go out of meele range then he does some crazy AoE damage.
If player for murmurs touch he leave the circle and enters then tent in the back infront of murmur (closes tent to murmur).
During sonic boom every1 apart from me will run out to the side. i will satnd in the middle and take teh 80% nature dmg. after taking the damage teh ehaler sould top you up soon as possible.
Rinse and repeat.
IMPORTANT INFO. atleast one person must stay in meele range of murmur otherwise he does nasty dmg. this can be a tank, a pet anything just keep in meele range.

My suggestion to all rogues (since I am one and I downed Murmur too many times) is to stand on Murmurs right side not in front. Also make sure you and tank are the only melee in the group (unless you're bringing more melees along).
Have the casters on the ladges of the walls that are on the tight and left side of the path to Murmur.
Now rogues hwn you see this guy performing his sonic boom run behind him asap, you mught have to pop sprint or cos to avoid his magic damage but if you run when you se him starting you probably wont need to do it, couse all you have to do is get out of the circle. That means behind the black one, to avoid all the damage he can do get out of the black cirlce. Also make sure thank gets all the agro before atacking this guy. If you do this you probably wont even have to get healed by the healer. Ive done this thing this way and I only used COS and a bandage so the healer can focus on tank and another melee.
Also the last part, if you are here for Leggings of Assassination prepare to run this instance 30 more times. Ive been here more than 10 times and Ive seen him drop the shield and the cloth.
You wont see leather for a long time.
If he drops it on your frist time here I suggest to run this instance only for rep and nothing else, and do it on heroic.
I got revered with lower city by runing this for leggings and i havenbt seen thepolearm or leather drop.

Some Tips for Murmur
Murmur is a gigantic elemental. He is the 'essence of sound'.
Murmur has a
Massive
AoE. It does around 6500-7000 damage. When he starts to cast the AoE (No it is not instant) an emote will come up.
Murmur draws energy from the air
or something like that. You need to do one thing.
Run.
Also there will be visible waves of energy around Murmur. If you have the option that you can see what your target is casting, you can see the cast bar. The attack is called
Sonic Boom
. As soon as he starts casting that, run out of the circle he is in. He won't run after you, because he stays in one spot.
Murmur also has a DoT spell called
Murmur's Touch
. It does damage to you and nearby friendly units. Sort of like Baron Geddon's bomb. You need to stay away from other units in your group or they will take damage too.
Rogues -- You can backstab him from the side, as he has an
Enormous
hitbox. That means you can hit him from about 3 feet away and backstab him from the side. You can also use Cloak of Shadows at the right time to resist his Sonic Boom.
Also, your healer needs to stay outside of the circle to avoid the sonic boom but also need to heal the MT.
Murmur also uses a spell called
Shockwave
Which knocks everyone back and into the air.

Funny story, we got him down to 1% in my group, everyone was dead except me, i had 1k health left, no mana, so I went up and meleed him and he died. I only hit him for 61.

I've only fought this guy once. I am a prot-paladin so i was the tank for the fight. everyone says this is a hard fight but i found it rather easy, only took 1 try and nobody died, i didn't even lose aggro even with a T5 warlock letting everything he had fly at this guy and our resto druid guild leader hitting me with some outrageous heals.
He dropped the Horrid dreams sword and I've found this to be an awesome tanking blade for paladins, the spell damage increases my threat generation nicely and the fast attack speed really helps when i need to use seal of wisdom or seal of light. I actually get more use out of that blade than i do from my merciless gladiator's slicer

It depends a lot on the make up of your group. With a melee-heavy group, it was impossible, but substituting in a shadow priest made it tons easier. It helped to have more ranged DPS, and the off-healing from Vampiric Embrace helped as well.

I noticed a lot of postings about how to tank and range DPS as well as the details on his debuffs and special abilities, but not much on how to help with close range melee DPS. I am a 70 rogue and did this for the first time last night. Before the fight, I got some tips from the tank who had done this before and it helped trmendously. Just want to pass it on. When Murmur begins his sonic blast, it is imperative that you get outside the ring as quickly as possible. The best way to accomplish this for melee is to strafe (run sideways) to the outside of the ring. I also found that if you position yourself just off center (either left or right) and stay at max melee range, it gives you a little extra time to get away. Hope you found this helpful.

Quite easy boss,
we killed it first time yesterday night with
lvl 70 prot. warrior
lvl 70 rogue
lvl 70 mark. hunter
lvl 70 holy paladin (buffing BoK)
lvl 68 retri paladin (bufing BoL on warrior BoW on palys and hunter and BoM on rogue + Imp sanctity aura activated = +6% heal)
just stay 30 yds from the MT and each healer on a side, when someone gets the debuff he can runn back into a tent so he doesn't hit party members and he won't fly and fall either.

This fight is one of endurance and timing rather than DPS. Killing him slowly and safely is 1000% more reliable than going all-out. Here is a proven formula for Murmur's defeat in normal mode, and is it not dependant on any class or special abilities. I have also included some rogue tips since many other posts seem to assume that a tanking warrior is the only melee class.
BEFORE:
Everyone in the party should have target's cast-bar displayed (interface options), and nobody except the healer should look away from this during the fight. Rogues can use Deadly Poison on both weapons for a best constant damage.
POSITION:
Ranged classes should stand at maximum range. Melee classes should fight Murmur face-to-face at maximum melee range (don't try to stand behind and backstab). Melee should also use the left mouse button to swing the camera 180 degrees so that your camera view is directed to the door where you entered.
DURING:
Always pay close attention to Murmur's cast bar. Looking away from this for half a second can be the difference between an easy win and a total wipe.
Murmur's Touch:
When you see Murmur cast Murmur's Touch then check your debuffs. If you are affected then run to the nearby tent until it has expired. This will prevent the fall-damage element of the spell. If you are not affected then carry on as before. Rogues may COS the Touch debuff when they move away from other party members but I would advise against this since your cloak could save your life later if accidents happen.
Sonic Boom:
As soon as you see Murmur beginning to cast Sonic Boom then all melee classes should run away towards the entry to the room. If you have set your camera view rearwards then the very fastest way to do this is to hold both mouse buttons at the same time. If you don't start to move immediately when Boom is being cast then you will be caught in a slow effect. You will not get out of range if this happens although rogues can use Cloak of Shadows to withstand the blast. Keep looking at the cast bar: Once Sonic Boom has been cast then melee should immediately turn and run back to Murmur to resume the fight. If melee do not immediately return to Murmur after Boom then the party will receive the Resonance debuff and will probably result in a wipe. Remember to reset your camera angle to reverse once back in position. If casters and hunters are at max range then there should be no need for them to move for Sonic Boom.
HEALING:
Heal as required throughout the fight. This will mainly be the tank however top-up heals may be required by the whole party, especially after a party member has been damaged by Murmur's Touch.
Congratulations: You have slain Murmur.
This is certainly not the only method available, but this works every time. If you wipe using this method then it is only because one or more of your party did not respond quickly enough to Sonic Boom or Murmur's Touch. If at first you don't succeed...

we did this last night easy we had:

this was an easy fight we wiped because the frost mage ran into the healer and silenced him :S but we owned second time around

Any type of tank can be used here, warrior of any spec, druid or pally, as long as he can stay alive at melee range (return to it quickly if he pops out during sonic boom) there is no problem. Have also had a Earth Elemental tanking him for 85% of the fight (nice as it is inmune to Sonic Boom), and have even heard of Felguard tanking it.
Seriously, as long as something can stay in melee range and take some hits the group will be fine
As for Murmur's touch, which is the only difficulty ranged have in this fight it, has an easy solution.
Just have all ranged stand at the left of the hallway leadin to Murmur, when you see his touch cast (big red lightning, easy to distinguish) ranged are to check themselves and if affected by the debuff start walking over to the right and stand next to the tent there, when there are 3 sec left get into the tent so you won't be send flying and immediately creep back out and walk back to the left calmly while you do your thing.
Wondering if anyone has done him on heroic and can say what's new there.

A shaman Earth pet is ideal, but we found sending in a hunter or warlock pet right after the Sonic Booms goes off gives you time to get the tanks back in.
For those that haven't fought him, the sonic boom can hit your tank when he/she runs out if the timing isn't just right and the effect snares the tank in addition to taking them down to a sliver of health.
So, have the hunter pet dash/dive (or lock pet run/charge) in as soon as possible after the blast and the tank has the extra time needed to get back into melee range. Then pull the pet out and keep him safe until the next blast.
Depending on your group's DPS, he'll usually get about 3 blasts off in regular mode, and I would guess a hell of a lot more of them in Heroic mode (haven't tried Heroic yet).

As a shadow priest, this is my single most favorite fight in the game bar none.
As ranged DPS, so long as your tank is in and out quick (im exhalted with lower city for my mace, in all the runs ive had, ive found only 2 tanks completely unable to manage this) then you are in absolutly no danger.
So long as tank is there, no matter what you do, no matter how hard you hit, or how often you crit, he doesnt focus on you. your only fear is his touch, which you get easily enough warning to bubble/bandage/heal yourself if for some reason your not at full life. And since i cant pull aggro, Vamp embrace stays on the entire fight.
I havent yet found anyone who even comes close to the amount of damage i can do on this fight. he doesnt die quick (in seconds) so I can maintain shadow word pain vamp touch, and vamp embrace on him from start to finish. I can dot before i a single sunder and nuke hard till he drops.
If you have trouble getting this guy down, get a competent shadow priest. in the dozens of runs ive done, I finish anywhere between 45-60% of the groups total damage on this guy, simply because with 15% bonus from weaving, 2 dots on the entire time, and mindblast/SWD and mindflay spam its so amazing simple to maintain 1k DPS (with relatively poor gear. Now ive broken 900 shadow spell damage, i do quite a bit more) from within a few seconds of the fight starting till he dies.
So damn good to just DPS hard without watching aggro

This boss needs two healers, it doesn't matter how pro you are at healing there needs to be two. He has a debuff that silences people, if the solo healer gets the debuff after Murmur's aoe, the group is screwed. So two healers is the way to go. Also when his debuff is applied to people it shoots you up into the air, silences you, and anyone around you while damaging the people around you. STAY AWAY from the people with the debuff. Here is a helpful tip, when you get the debuff run into the tents you will take no damage, you'll merely get silenced.
Sorry but the need of 2 Healers is Bull#$%^. The only thing you have to
look after is: spread around! Don`t Group beside your Partymembers and
the healer stays at Maxrange to the MT, while the DD´s do ranged DPS
from Maxrange to Murmur and keep watching to run away if they get the debuff
if there is a partymember nearby.
We took Murmur down alot of times now in the last days since the weekend
and most the time we didn`t have a second Healer with us. The trick on this
encounter is just to spread around, go to Maxrange on Murmur for the DD`s,
and Maxrange to the MT for the healers.
MT runs outside of the circle when Murmur begins casting his AE, switch to
Berserkerstance, charge him after the AE (you may also aktivate Berserkerrage
to gain some extra rage back after the charge), switch to Defstance and go on
tanking...
notice: you can just time your bloodrush cooldown that it is availible when
Murmur begins casting the AE and you`re running away... Or you need to safe
10 rage bevor he is casting, so that you can charge him after.
Also notice: you should be able to have your cooldown on bloodrush free,
everytime Murmur casts his AE, if you don`t wast it while tanking him.
little hint for the tank: get some space between Murmur and you, when you
engage the fight. Start running at Murmur in berserkerstance, hit berserkerrage
and switch instantly to combatstance (now you should reach the right distance to
Murmur to charge him), charge Murmur while running towards him, switch to
defstance and hit bloodrush, have fun tanking... ;)

we had a druid tanking this, but could never get out of the aoe in time( really bad lag), so we just told him to stay in the blast and i healed through it, he resisted 2/3 of the aoe damage spells. primal tenicity ftw i guess.

Don't need 2 healers at all, I (holy priest) took murmur's silence bomb 3 times during this fight and we did fine. As a priest its very easy, as soon as you see you have it 1.) shield yourself 2.) renew tank 3.) prayer of mending tank 4.) top off tank to max hps, as long as you do those things, the silence wont matter. It's worse when the tank get's the debuff...and doesnt get out of the aoe quick enough...or gets out and blows up in the middle of your group lol ;-)

This fight can be really hard or moderat hard :D.
We took him down with
1x Druid, healer (lvl 66)
1x Druid, feral (lvl 70)
1x Warrior, MT (lvl 70)
1x rouge (lvl 70)
1x Hunter (me), MM (lvl70)
First time we tried with 1 healer and rest on dps. But we could not get away from his aoe-spell. And if we mannaged to get away from it - he nuked us to shreds with sonic something :D
Second time our feral druid went healing to. This worked well. Both healers on MT. The rouge had to watch out for the aoe - run out and bandage. We did not move the MT away from the aoe, just healed him fast.
He will use some "mark" on random targets - witch will cause you to explode for 1.5k dmg + 1.5k dmg from falling. The way to avoid the fall dmg is to run into one of the tents as soon as you see the mark on you (thats why there need to be 2 healers - because one of them will eventually get the mark)
Really a fun and hard fight. Looking forward to face him in heroic mode :D

general tip about murmur in heroic mode:
when he isnt casting his explosion thing, EVERYONE needs to be inside the glowing circle. anyone outside will be struck by balls f energy that deal a good chunck of damage. however if your inside for it, he doesnt cast them.

Murmur: This fight shares features with the baron geddon fight. If no one is in melee range he will eventually start casting some nasty debuff's and stuff on the entire party. You wont survive it for long so keep atleast one person in melee range at all times, except when he's charging his sonic blast attack.
Every now and then he starts charging his sonic blast attack (You wont need an UI to notice this, the ground starts flashing as if he was drawing energy from it). This is an aoe nature damage attack that will do damage equal to about 75% of your health, and slow you significantly. The range of this is about 20-25yards, which in practice means that anyone standing in his pit or on the darkened ledge that circles his pit will be hit with the blast. Everyone will need to get out of range as soon as he starts charging it.
He sometimes puts a debuff called touch of murmur on a random party member causing him to explode after 12 seconds or so, dealing about 2500 damage in a 10 yard radius and sending you up in the air. You'll also be silenced for a couple of seconds.
Tank: Just do your thing. When he starts charging up his sonic blast run out to safety ASAP, but charge/intercept/run back into range as soon as it's cast. If the healer gets the touch of murmur debuff you'll be without healing for a couple of seconds, so keep any healthstones and potions within reach.
Melee dps: Mind your aggro as usual and run out of range as soon he starts charging the sonic blast. If you get the touch of murmur debuff, run out of sonic boom range and stay away from party members. If get low on hp just run out of range and bandage yourself.
Ranged dps: Before engaging him; spread out, don't stay close to one another, And stay at max range. If you get the touch of murmur debuff keep away from other party members(Ice block and health pots/stones will come in handy). Other than that, just nuke him - nothing to worry about here, you can't take aggro because you're out of range. Just maximise your dps from the start and keep at him.
Healers: Keep out of sonic blast range and just keep healing whatever gets low on hp. If someone other than the tank gets hit by the sonic blast you should ignore it unless you have more than one healer. If you get the murmur's touch debuff - put your most potent shields/heal over time spells on the tank, because you will be thrown in the air then silenced for a couple of seconds. Should you make it down safely, heal the tank then heal yourself.

With any half-decent geared tank and healer, the tank can just stay and tank the boss the whole time (through sonic booms) with only melee dps needing to run out. Simple Tank n' Spank encounter. There is enough time to run out of his sonic boom as a melee dps class if you pay attention to when he starts casting it. Nothing complicated about him in the slightest.

it is an easy boss if you have good tank and better healer and best ranged dps. tactic is easy if u have debuff get away from party members, if boss is deep breathing run like hell after he sneezes come back and hit him what you have and read this again till boss die...
but ...
killed this guy more than 5 times it dropped always same loot i hate that Sonic Spear i need dagger and i hate shammy pant i need ASSassination one ...

Just finished him on heroic today. He didn't start at 100%, oddly enough he was at 39% and not 40. Didn't seem to have much more health, we killed him just as he was casting his third sonic boom. As for new tricks, his murmur's touch sucks all party members towards the targeted player, and anyone outside the circle gets blasted with shockwaves or something. Not sure if he did that part before, as I'm always inside it.
Not to hard, if you can kill a fel overseer in heroic mode you can probably clear the entire instance lol.

Hes the boss of the Black Labyrinth, final instance of auchindoin(sp?) hes the essence of sound and has a model similar to ragnaros.

Murmur's AoE explosion is not a static 5k damage. It seems to be % based aoe attack dealing around 90% of total health (nature damage, binary resistable). Not sure if it does % of total health or it brings you down to 10% (or whatever it was, forget). All i know is, the more stamina gear i put on, the harder he hit me every time.
Not sure if Nature pot would work either because I popped an absorb damage shield trinket right before the blast and he hit me for even more to make sure my health went down to ~10% (maybe even less).
If your strategy is to keep the tank in for the blast, just make sure ur healers are timing their heals perfectly. Other than that, keep spread out and DPS him down as quick as possible.

We had one more go
Was not easy
Lots of running when he does his boom, it hits with 5k+ and slow you for 90%
I got one and had to go back with interrupt
We got him to 5% and the hunter and priest were down
I used the charm of Alacrity
Last stand
HS
And used recklessness and continuous execute, with the great flurry ofc
Which did the trick
I think I am the lowest tank to do this till now :D but with defence of +480
I couldn’t have done it out the great party

That spell does a PERCENTAGE OF YOUR MAX HP (around 75% ish but did not calculate it). I had this land on me for over 14K nature damage with HP GEAR on.
Here is your option for tanking him:
Option A)
Sonic Boom hits you ...
(If most your DPSer are range)
If you chose this one, switch your HP gear off for some evasion gear and nature resist gear. What is going to kill you is likely be the few hits after the sonic boom, if you can shave some of that off, and keep your cooldown for that point in case your healer is silenced.
And make sure Shield block is up just before spell land to ensure you dont get crushed at that low HP time.
Option B)
Sonic Boom DONT HIT YOU ...
(if most your DPSer are melee)
Might be tricky since he punts everyone but tank around. Have your intervene macro ready and target you team mate to get out of the ring. Once it LANDs, you better get in there really quick as he has a nasty AOE to the group if no melees are in range.
This might help your healer if your melee DPSer keep getting hit by it ...
Suggestion of Macro to use:
/target NameOfRangePlayer
/cast Intervene
/target murmur
Then intercept back to him

Note to self:
DO NOT HIT: LAST STANCE, Bulwark of Kings effect and so on BEFORE the sonic boom hits you.
Keep all your timers for once it lands IF your caster is silence.

This is by far the easiest boss in the instance. The pulls in this room are harder than Murmur himself. We one shot him earlier tonight with me (Tank), Rogue, Mage, and 2 Paladins. The debuff hit me 3 times, but not enough to get me below 20% health. the MT has to be quick to turn around and run when you see that he is casting his AOE attack.

Use a tank!
- Have a tank on the boss and keep everyone at max caster range
- When Murmur beings to charge up his 5k AOE be sure to have tank at 60-80% HP
- When you selfcombust be sure to pot/bandage
- When your at max range you shouldnt explode from one of the abilities Murmur has
- The Murmur fight starts off like Veal in BWL, he has 39-40% HP which is like 300k
My group set up had all 70's
- warrior
- paladin (healing)
- priest (healing)
- mage
- warlock
1) This fight can be solo healed by one person
2) Murmurs AOE hits for a certain % of the tanks HP (nature resist armor/pots wont help reduce dmg)
3) If you have tank stay in for the AOE be sure to cast healing at about roughly 50% of murmurs cast so you heal the tank just as he/she gets knocked down to 15-25% hp (make it a 3sec cast heal depening what your class is)

had the shammy's earth elemental tank most of the fight. he's immune to murmur's sonic boom. oce the earth ele finnaly wnet away we just had the druid charge in to finish him off.

Dont know if this is listed in one of the 1000 comments here, but just did this on heroic, and found something new. HE WILL NOT DO ANY OF THOSE NATURE BOLTS (that look arcane) AT ANYONE IF EVERYONE IS IN THE CIRCLE. Dont leave, not even for the debufff... ONLY leave for the big blast. Do this, fight is an utter cakewalk.

Throws sonic bolts at any enemies between 25 and 100 feet
Hopefully this is seen. I literally never knew this before. We always spread out, only melee/tank went into the circle. This makes damage very minimal and the fight cake.
