Hello! Welcome to the 266th edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
This week we talk about the troubles with Crafting Orders and the communication issues players are facing. There are also some exciting secrets uncovered with Enchanting and some helpful advice in farming Knowledge Points. We also have some great tips for parking alts to get easy access to rares.
My name is
Samadan
and I'll be your guide through the World of Gold Making!
Crafting Orders Rethink
The website WoWCraftingOrders.com is shutting down as
u/ComfortableFig9642
explains ...
Apologies for the bad news, but I will be killing this project. Takes too much of my mental energy for a project where I'm facing burnout, is lagging behind in more than one way, costs more than is sustainable, is for a game that I've somewhat lost interest in, and will probably be rendered mostly obsolete by Blizzard before too long.
Would rather redirect that energy into my other side projects. Feel free to check back on my Reddit account in the future to see what I'm up to.
If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to open-source the code and act in an advisory role for anyone looking to take over. For anyone that purchased premium, I'll be issuing a full refund. Thanks for coming along for the ride, everyone!
General Difficulty
Here's a mishmash of challenges I ran into:
Switched technologies instead of actually building features;
Just pick something that's versatile and that you're good at, and roll with it.
Database query optimization.
Firestore ultimately wasn't a good pick; I struggled to get good query times even with deliberately restructuring the data model and introducing data duplication, and it doesn't have support for a lot of good out-of-the-box solutions for things like text similarity searches that MongoDB has.
Tracking tasks.
Having a good task tracking system is extremely important once you bring your end users into the equation. I used GitHub issues and just diligently recorded them when someone pointed out a bug in the Discord, but in the future I'd probably use something like ProductBoard.
Hitting a critical mass.
This site was always similar to a social media site in that it was only really usable if I hit a certain mass of people. I just advertised on Reddit, and implemented what features I should have in the site, but what I probably should have done was reached out to creators far sooner (though I'll note that I got almost zero responses even when I did) and potentially run Reddit ads.
Feature Prioritization:
Picking which features to work on is very important. Get feedback from your users where possible. I'd also recommend releasing as early as possible so you can get suggestions for where users want the site to go.
Burnout:
Burnout is something everyone runs into. Set up sites to be as autonomous as possible so you can step away for a little while if you need a break from the project.
It's totally understandable that such a project would require a large amount of personal time to keep going and the efforts are certainly appreciated.
The whole reason is came into place was due to the frustrations in-game of connecting crafters with buyers.
Trade Chat is terrible for communication.
Public Work Orders are empty as they get fulfilled instantly.
Work Orders may be cross faction, but the basics of communication cross faction are non-existent.

came up with a UI mockup of what they would like to see with the crafting system ...
I made this mock up for some things I would love to see:
I would also love to see a receipt system, so people can see exactly what inspiration/multicraft/skill was used to craft a certain item
Edit: Just thought of a new one
Stop taking our items away from us for recrafts
Sometimes a crafter is offline or busy, and when they are free, I am busy
I can't submit an order and wait because my gear is taken away from me for the recraft order
That's stupid
A way for the buyer to see my inspiration chance has gotta be the most obvious improvement. Going 0/6 on a 40% chance just feels fishy even if it isn't. Thankfully nobody has accused me of nefarious behavior but still.
Then an easier way to tell what knowledge points increase what. "You improve at the art of jewel crafting goods" is way too vague. What is defined as "goods"????
I'd like for the buyer to see my entire profession tree, what I have my KP invested in and my stats.
Also I'd like it if it was easier to actually find a crafter for a specific item I want without asking in trade chat for hours(smaller server).
Also maybe be able to "favorite" a crafter. Say if I want some phials or something crafted and some person can craft them at rank 3 with a good chance to multiproc. It would be cool to add them to a list so I can buy from them again later. I know you can add them to friends list but it would be nice to have a favorite list anyway.
I’d really like to see a profession bulletin board, where a crafter can link their profession once every X hours, and small note of their specializations. This would also allow to view crafters of the other faction. Now it’s just a spam battle in trade, a bulletin board would allow the less persistant players to share their leveled up professions. Browsing through professions would be similar as browsing through professions in guild.
I’d also like to see a preview of all items I can craft without having the actual items. I know addons can do that, but those are way too bloaty for most players.
Lastly I would add a form of catch-up. Not a simple quest you can repeat over and over, but an increased chance on getting a minor Dragon Shard (that rewards 5 mettle). After every X amount of those minor shards the chance of getting these would decrease. This way it wouldn’t come as an easy catch-up, but a serious grind. A catch-up is needed though, else most markets will become monopolies, which is good for a few goblins, but bad for the entire economy. If people feel it is not worth it to invest in a new profession today because they have to deal with an impossible competition, then eventually the markets will stall. Everyone should be able to (really) paticipate in the new profession system, not just the day 1 goblins. Again, it should be a big grind, as it wouldn’t be fair to all players that put some serious dedication into farming knowledge points, but new players and alts need a smaller threshold to level their profs.
We clearly want the system to work. It's nearly there. Professions have been great from a depth and interest point of view, but communications with crafters and buyers and shifting the emphasis over to the buyers has made things over complicated.
Buyers just want their thing at best quality for reasonable price, simple. Let the crafters do all the working out, spreadsheets and deep dives, that's what we enjoy, but give us a means to communicate and market our wares.
Enchanting Tips & Secret Recipes
Manthieus
has been doing some deeper research into Enchanting and has highlighted that you can get extra knowledge through Primal Extraction specialization and there's an elusive recipe attached to the tree...
This revolves around the
Primal Invocation Extract
which according to the comments was recently solved in the secret finding discord ...
#comments"]
This recipe has been solved by the
Secret Finding Discord
.
As of right now the only known method to obtain the
Primal Invocation Quintessence
toy is to use
Primal Invocation Extract
several times as figured out by the user Allifeur. Quality seems to matter and you need to reach a total of 360 minutes combined. You do not need to be an enchanter to do this.
Quality 1 provides 10 minutes, Quality 2 provides 15 minutes and Quality 3 provides 20 minutes. This means you need 18 Q3 uses in order to obtain it for example.
In order to obtain this recipe you must disenchant two
Sophic Amalgamation
pets, the caged versions do not work, so you need to craft them yourself or have it commissioned.
You must have at least 10/40 in the Insight of the Blue trait in order to unlock the Primal Extraction route, you do not need any points allocated in it though.
The first time you disenchant a
Sophic Amalgamation
pet it will give you the
Glimmer of Order
which can be disenchanted into 3 Knowledge Points and 15 Artisan's Mettle, in order to receive the recipe you need to collect all of the glimmers from each of the Elemental Storms as well as the
Glimmer of Order
before disenchanting another
Sophic Amalgamation
.
You can use this macro I made in order to check your progress on the glimmers:
/script local v = {{"Earth", 71940}, {"Air", 71939}, {"Frost", 71942}, {"Fire", 71941}, {"Order", 71943}} for _, i in ipairs(v) do print(tostring(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(i)) .. " " .. i) end
This is certainly a niche aspect of specialization and one where if nothing else, you can gain some extra knowledge!
Farming Knowledge
Often players are struggling with being so far behind on Knowledge, it seems impossible to catch up..

I just returned to the game a few weeks ago and am now starting professions and feel I’m so far behind.
For JC / enchanting or any for that matter, how can I get knowledge the most efficient / fastest way
I like to use Tailoring as an example, because it’s what I know best.
Step 1a:
level the profession to at least 50 using a guide that shows the cheapest way to get there, material-wise.
Step 1b:
while leveling said profession, craft every recipe that doesn’t have an outrageous cost at least once. This is called the “first craft” bonus and grants one Knowledge Point. You can actually filter by First-Craft Bonus in the profession menu.
Step 2:
once you’ve reached level 50, you unlock weekly profession quests in Valdrakken. Using Tailoring as my example, there are three quests: craft some items (comes from the profession trainer), gather some items (comes from a guy near the work order NPC), and perform three work orders (comes from the Artisan’s Consortium NPC also next to the Work Order folks). Each quest rewards an item that grants 3 KP for a total of 9.
Step 3:
there are four KP “drops” in the world that can also be looted on a weekly basis. Two come from expedition scout’s packs and/or dirt piles (assuming you have unlocked both from the Dragonscale Expedition rep), and two come from specific types of mobs in the world. For Tailoring, those are Gnolls and Centaurs. For Enchanting, they’re Elementals and Primalist mobs.
Here’s a list of sources for each profession.
Step 4:
put in a work order for a Treatise. These are worth one KP, but can only be used once per week.
Step 5:
Visit the Darkmoon Faire when it’s up. The profession quests there reward two skill, three KP, and some mettle I believe.
Step 6:
check the AH for cheap recipes/patterns. Tailoring has PvP patterns that are a few hundred to several thousand gold. They’re cheap to craft and are great for an extra 5-10 KP.
Step 7:
start earning renown. There are both raw KPs and new additional recipes locked behind renown. For Tailoring it’s Dragonscale Expedition, the Accord, and Artisan’s Consortium. But it can be steep in both time it takes to grind the renown (14/19/24+) and cost for the recipes (150 mettle per for AC).
Step 8:
Complete the quest chain to earn Dragon Shards of Knowledge (you’ll get 4 as rewards from completing the quest chain, and then unlock the ability to discover more afterwards). Then you can farm dirt piles/scout’s packs/treasure chests/rares for more throughout the week. They’re also rarely a bonus reward from weekly activities like M+, raids, world quests (like Aiding the Accord), etc.
I think that hits the highlights. But let me know if you have any questions.
**Edit: Since this comment got quite a bit of traction, I’ve added a couple links for the hidden profession treasures and profession master’s that also grant one-time KP.

This is a great summary of everything that is possible to do in the game.

Easy Farms by DalaGG
DalaGG
has put together a nice guide for some quick rare farms that can be done regularly to get items, mounts, pets etc. for selling on the Auction House.
The simplicity of these is based around parking certain alts in certain areas to make the most of rare spawns scattered around the world.
