Pretty straight forward fight. He do a debuff on 5 people once in a while that reduce their hp to 1 and they are not healable for that time. Right after that he cast a shadownova which does 3k shadow damage and has a 30yrd range or so. If you get the debuff, just run out of range. Also static infernal spawn which do a hellfire, just don't stand close to them.

In phase 2 he increases his melee damage greatly. Save damage cooldowns for that phase and burn him down fast to 30%, tank should use flasks, nightmare seed, gem, ls and sw. healers should "spamheal".

At 30% phase 3 starts where he throws his axes away which are their own NPC now and they will go for the raid, just heal through it and bring him down.

At the moment the Prince has some bugs. He can be unattackable after a wipe (think it happens when people run out of the room when wipe). Also if you wipe in phase 2 his melee damage stays the same for the whole fight. If this happens, you kinda need to reset the instance. Healing through this insane damage for 70% is kinda hard.

He has a huge aggro range, so don't enter in the room untill you're ready.

Through out the fight he summons infernals from the sky landing in random spots. They start spamming a large range hellfire, that ticks for over 1k a second, so keep away. You can not target them. There will be only 4 maximum on the ground. The oldest infernal disappears as the next one is incoming, so try to remember the order and move around accordingly.

Phase 1: This part is pretty easy. He casts a spell called enfeeble on 5 random people, never the person who has the aggro. This spell reduces the target to 1 hp, they'll look like they're in a priest's shadow form. You can't heal this. When you receive this debuff run away from the Prince if you're melee, range shouldn't have to move if they're max range. After 6 seconds he casts a 3k shadow nova that knocks back the people in range and the debuff should be removed by that time, returning your health you had before.

Phase 2: At 60% he'll start dual wielding axes which increase his damage and he'll sunder the MT. He continues to do the same as phase 1.

Phase 3: At 30% his axes start floating around attacking random targets, ranging from 100-400+ depending on the persons armor rating. He stops casting enfeeble on the 5 random targets, but continues to cast his shadow nova.

As someone already mentioned, if you try to run out and reset the encounter not only will he pwn you anyway, but once you ress up there's a chance that he'll become unattackable.

There's a way around this however. If you pull a flesh beast up to his area (just get a hunter to misdir a warrior standing near prince, pull and fd) then demo shout when ur near him it unbugs.

Easy fight otherwise, depends a bit on how unlucky you get with infernals though.

As of 2/20/07, it appears that Blizzard has made Prince easily resettable by running out into the circular room just outside the hallway to the room he patrols in. No de-agro bug any more when resetting and he runs right back to his patrol route.

We got the unattackable bug and dragged an imp to him and it fixed him, however I happened to be repairing at the time causing him to run out of the room. He was attackable when we returned, so it seems that the bug could be related to stages.

If you have a decent, skilled tank, you will be able to kill Prince Malchezaar fairly easily. He's a three stage encounter, and he spawns Infernals who stay in one position and fire damage an area around themselves. The main challenge of the encounter is to adapt your positioning as it goes along to avoid these fire traps.(##RESPBREAK##)272##DELIM##Uchur##DELIM##

When you stand at the door to his room look down and note the "light" floor which starts right at the door entrance. Those 5 yards are the key to avoid 'the unattackable' bug. When a wipe is called let all raid members go on those about 5 yards area. If everyone does this not only the prince will NOT bug but he will most probably kill 1 or 2 members and then reset leaving the rest alive.

If you're having problems with the infernals, bring a hunter and put a raid symbol on his head. He's able to see the infernals on the map, so he'll be the first one to find a safe position. Everyone else just follow him there. The hunter should also tell the tank where to go in case the infernal spawns near the prince. In our guild the hunter says simple commands via teamspeak, like "Raid left;", "Tank back" etc. to speed things up.

All in all you'll just need quick reflexes and some good healers to kill him. And maybe a bit of luck with the infernals. We had one kill where we had to move only 3 times the whole combat.

MOST EASY WAY TO KILL UNTILL FIXED -

1) Tell the MT to grab the prince. Bring him to the door. Tank him in front of the door so infernals will never bother you throughout the fight. Use KTM Threatmeter to control aggro. It is imperative that the MT doesnt lose aggro.

2) For his enfeeble and shadownova you will easily evade these abilities.
Melee- Go outside the room and hide in the first crack of the wall, when you recieve enfeeble and wait for the shadow nova. (note: I was feral cat druid did not fully fit in but half my body was in so I did not get shadownova'ed.

Ranged- There is a 2nd crack where everyone must always stand and attack the prince from there. I was not a ranged attacker so I'm not sure if you stay inside the crack but play around with it. If you do get enfeeble try to run as far in the crack as you can without getting shadownova'ed. Even if you dont get enfeebled you must try to hide to make it easier for your healers.

Phase 1-Light dps tank and spank)
Phase 2-Burn stage and the healers must focus)
Phase 3-Kill Kill Kill

(Note: i was melee dpsing so really all i had to do was hide from shadownova, and enfeeble. Then continue to dps him. Not sure what else was going on but the fight was like a tank and spank.)

A note for rogues on this fight,
If you find yourself enfeebled and cannot make it out of nova range (or if you are not enfeebled and don't wish to run out) You may Cloak Of Shadows his nova. Make SURE you CoS as soon as you see him casting, or 2 - 2.5 seconds after you are enfeebled.

As of the patch (2.1), this fight has become considerably easier. Damage has been decreased at the start of Phase 2 and the infernals wait a little longer after landing before using their hellfire ability.

One of the many nerfs Blizzard made to boss fights in Karazhan (presumably to allow progression to occur faster)

Our guild found that keeping Curse of Weakness on Prince during Phase 2 significantly reduces the damage the tank receives. This drastically made a difference in the amount of mana our healers were able to conserve during this phase. I would also suggest designating one healer to heal the raid during Phase 3, preferably a class that is able to put HoT on the raid.

The most poorly designed encounter to this point IMO. An encounter of this lever should not be almost entirely based on luck.

Infernals that aren't targetable much less CCable in any way that fall in random locations is just enormously frustrating. Made 10 attempts tonight, had no more than 4 infernals land in a spot that wasn't inconvenient. Most landed in spots that boxed us in almost immediately or ensured that by the 3rd infernal we would be dead.

Luck used to be a minor factor in this fight, an average crew could down him within 4 attempts for sure.

But as of 2 weeks ago, luck seems to have been taken out of the picture, and the encounter is designed so the only groups that could down him are the groups geared so well they probably don't need much (if anything) from his loot table.

Our guild has Gruul on farm and used to have all of Karazhan on farm. This week neither of our Karazhan teams have been able to kill Prince after 2 days because of the phase 3 infernal drops. It seems that the infernals target the tank after a specific time or health %. It may require a lot of movement at that phase, or a lot more DPS than what used to be required.

My belief is that Blizzard wanted Prince to be more difficult than Nightbane, so they buffed the Price fight rather than nerfing the Nightbane fight. Sadly, this means we can't bring undergeared (or underskilled) people to this fight anymore.

Note that pets are not targeted by Enfeeble and do not get knocked back by the Shadow Nova. With the recent change of Mend Pet to a heal-over-time, It's safe to leave the pet on target for the whole fight, unless it's too close to one of the infernals. Simply heal through it. The only issue is mana consumption.

While there are many advocates of using cooldowns, etc., to maximize damage output in Phase 2, the rapid accumulation of infernals in Phase 3 makes damage output more important there. He simply must be burnt down quickly in Phase 3, or there will soon be too many infernals and no safe place left.

We had 8 failed attempts last night. After being boxed-in and then bombed by infernals all night, we opened up a ticket to the GMs. After we registered our complaint we knew the GM assisting us was going to watch our next attempt. Guess what? Not one infernal dropped on us during the fight. How convenient. After the fight the GM sent a tell to our Raid Leader saying “Looks like you have everything under control.”

I've worked out what caused the wipes. They were always:

Rapid-fire damage spikes on the tank, presumably from Thrash.
...or....
Running out of room in Phase 3 due to too many infernals spawning.

Despite many complaints, these are not bad luck. The tank and healers have assorted methods of dealing with damage spikes if they are ready for them. The Phase 3 slew of infernals is essentially a "soft enrage timer". You simply have to smash him down before there are too many infernals to avoid them all.

Blowing your wad in Phase 2 and entering Phase 3 with no mana and all your nukes on cooldown is not a good idea. You won't get him down in time if you do that.

An enemy cast mod to detect the thrashes would be a big help.

If you are having trouble with Infernals on this fight, our guild uses a different strategy.

Healers and ranged DPS should be standing at the door (An infernal will never hit the door). They should stay here throughout the fight, and the melee DPS should run back to the healer group when enfeeble hits. The tank should place himself against the "wall" about 40 yards away from the door, on the right side. My guild got lucky the two Prince kills, an infernal did not spawn between the tank and ranged groups. However, if this should occur, the ranged DPS will have to move.

Does anyone else have a problem with the beggining of phase 2? It seems that he drops his threat once phase 2 starts. A couple times our tank has lost aggro from me and gotten enfeebled because I became the new main target. I stop dps now completely at 61% and get misdirect ready just to make sure.

We started having trouble with him in the last 30% after patch 2.1. While we would consistently make it through the 60-30 phase, we would keep getting boxed in by the Infernals in the last 30%.

Our healers were losing their space in the middle of the field by Infernals dropping in the middle of the field, and had to move more than they could really manage. We also started to get semi-paranoid about drop patterns - half the field would be open, but the infernals would consistently land on us in the crowded half. We cursed Blizzard, we cursed luck and we got frustrated.

Then we decided to start moving more in the first 40%. While we may start up in the northern section, we may end up by the door when he hits 30%. We want to have a lot of room around us by the time we hit 30%. Tank using Intervene on one guy who prepositions and DPS holding while the tank runs has helped that a lot.

And we started saving 10 minute DPS-cooldowns (Bloodlust) for the last 30% phase. It is based on the belief that the drop pattern isn't random in this part, we may very well be wrong, but we can heal our way through the 60-30 phase with decent geared healers, and we want the last 30 to drop before we get infernaled to death.

So far this has worked well for us, and at least provided better results than before we made a conscious effort to be in the open and save cooldowns for when we hit 30% instead of 60%.

Had a little trouble since new patch where door closes. But a lot of concentration gets it done. We have our MT tank him a little to the left of the door outside. We have the smartest person in raid lead the rest of the group around in a loop around the area, avoiding Infernals. He casts and enfeeble spell on a random raid member, when he does this you get 1 hp and 0% hp regen, if you get this run as far away as possible, because soon after he casts enfeeble he does a shadow nova that will kill you. At about 60% or so he Enrages and increases damage done by a s#!t load. During this time you must unload ALL YOU GOT to get him to 30%, pop heroism if you got a shaman. Just do Whatever you can to get him to 30%. At 30% the summons two flying axes that attack a random raid member, you can easily heal through these, dont worry too much about them, just keep dps'ing Prince. Most of the raid, exception for melee dps, is out of range of the shadow nova, so they dont have to worry much. The big problem is having the dps classes get out of range of the shadow nova, most likely we have them run to the edge of the platform, its not too far of a run. 1st attempt since new patch we got him to 1% and casters/ranged dps get surrounded by infernals, we could have done a lot of things to down him, but whatever. 2nd attempt on him DESTROYED him, didnt lose anyone. Biggest problem of the entire raid in Kara is getting healers to log on >.< So we got an old healer who retired from WoW and promised him the healing mace if he comes back. Healers lucky day. Then the next week, retarded melee dps' classes died the 1st 5%. We had no problem 8 manning him, just took a little longer than usual. We had amazing luck with infernals. Concentration and luck will get you to down this boss. GL with infernals.

Hunters, (non-tank) warriors, rogues, (enhancement) shamans, (cat) druids, and (retribution) paladins should use an Elixir of Demonslaying (http://www.cuckhead.com/?item=9224) at the start of Phase 2.

It gives a massive 265 attack power for five minutes, and is better than any other buff in the game for this fight.

Warn your herbalists ahead of time. The materials are not trivial to get. They're worth it, though, to avoid the common 2% wipes on this guy that you get from not having quite enough DPS.

Prince is pure easy mode if you got the tactics. Communication is also vital to get the raid to move out of the infernals.

As a DPS warrior I got no problem whatsoever with the enfeeble or infernals, I usually only need one heal up to phase 3, if I get the blades on my ass I get some healing, but other than that it's pure easy mode. (based on luck)

Dont know if my guild is just lucky or what it is, but the way we do it is that I tank prince at a wall, near the doorway we come from. and all the ranged DPS stay on the little gray area at the door, the only dmg they suffer then is the 1 hp debuff, no infernals have yet spawned right in front of them. So I would say its worth the risk.

If you get boxed in during Phase 3 to the point where there isn't enough room for the ranged damage-dealers and the healers to back away from the Prince without getting into an infernal's Hellfire, move in close to the Prince.

He doesn't have a Cleave, he doesn't use Enfeeble during Phase 3, and the Hellfire does more damage over time than the Shadow Nova. It's better to just eat the Shadow Nova damage than the Hellfire damage. Sure, with the axes and Amplify Damage thrown in, you're going to lose some of your raid to the Shadow Nova, but at least you will have a few more seconds to burn him down before he finishes off the wipe. There's no chance if you're standing next to an infernal. Given how many raids wipe at 1% or 2% on this guy, this may be enough to push you over into beating him.

Make sure that you're standing between the Prince and a wall. The knockback from Shadow Nova will throw you into the wall instead of into a Hellfire.

This used to be a frustrating fight for me as a Rogue. But it not so bad anymore. You just need to be patient, you'll still deal out some good dps, even with all the running.

Given that your tank is tanking him in the right spot (little more that 30 yards away from the door). Your job is simple.

If you get emfeebled, run to the door as soon as it happens. If you're not going to make it, use Cloak of Shadows (if it's on cooldown...just dont hesitate when emfeeble happens)

If you don't get emfeebled, use cloak of shadows to resist Shadow Nova, if it on cooldown, just take the hit. It aint that bad

If an infernal (or two) get summoned next to prince, stay out of it's Aoe and try to still hit Prince. If you can't hit prince without getting hit by the aoe, then you're out of luck...go get by the door and start throwing knives, shoots arrows, etc... until the infernal despawns. If you stay in the AOE you will get killed by emfeeble.

If an Infernal spawns between you and the door (where the healers are). You're going to need to run the other way when emfeeble hits. And bandage yourself if necc.

Essentially if an infernal is going to be in your way when you have to run when emfeebled, you need to get over to the door, before that emfeeble happens. Otherwise you'll die. Don't forget to still fire away with your knives, and get ready for an infernal to despawn.

Elixir of Demonslaying (http://www.cuckhead.com/?item=9224) is great for this fight too.

Save big dps cooldowns like Adrenaline rush for right after an emfeeble, that way you dont waste them (because you had to take off running).

There's actually a very simple way to avoid the frustrating infernals.

Our MT pulled him all the way across the balcony to the back edge where our melee DPS jumped in. Meanwhile, our healers and ranged DPS moved to the corner where the building meets the edge on the left hand side.

The Infernals dont drop close enough to this position for some reason, that they no longer become a problem. Then when anyone is enfeebled, the healers and ranged can just stay put, and the melee DPS can run straight back there to avoid the shadow nova. And if your a druid like me, you can pop an innervate on any of the healers running low.

We killed prince on our second try. would've downed him on our first attempt, but an unlucky infernal dropped just close enough to the Prince that it wiped our Melee DPS. But we hugged the wall on the second try and this was no longer a problem

apparently with paladin tanks that have reckoning talent, when you proc reckoning, if malchezaar parries any of these swings he can do approx 12-15k dmg in about 3 seconds. Because a parry gives him the opportunity to immiedietly hit you again. And 3-4 3500+ hits = not good.

While this fight does have luck, proper positioning can help a lot to reduce the chance of bad luck to happen. Just about every infernal wipe I've had on prince was due to either bad positioning or slow reaction time, rather than impossible spawns.
Just make sure you re-position the raid after EVERY infernal drop so that you have as much room as possible to play with. If your DPS is low, you may actually have the first and possibly second infernal despawn so keep that in mind when choosing your position after the 3rd (?) infernal.

Re-positioning to a good place will greatly reduce your chance of having bad luck.
If an infernal lands on the tank and he just moves a few steps out of it, you're that much more likely to have another one drop on his other side and the 3rd one dropping on him leaving him nowhere to move. I could give many other examples but you should just be smart and find a spot where you'd be least likely to get boxed in.

Also remember the tank can't see anything on this fight so you need to tell him exactly where to go. Decide on some common languege before the fight so he actually understands what you're saying - preferably that will be possible with 2-3 words to tell him to go to just about anywhere, including to the opposite side from where you initially tanked him, as sometimes the other side will have simply too many infernals.

When you fail that fight, instead of saying "shitty infernal drops" try finding where you could've actually moved in order to not get screwed by those shitty drops.

Just a little funny comment that you can vote down if you want but a few nights ago we decided to go down prince(Myself being the MT) before Kara had reset. After a few tries we got it but a very funny yet sad thing happened on the second try. Our hunter got a new pet only 63/64ish that he had out during the fight and at around 40% right as he had cast Enfeeble somehow(I honestly have no idea how) the bear had aggro right as he had cast leaving me enfeebled, the bear with aggro and a wipe. We just laughed it off and tried again. Anyways mark down if you must I just though I would share this moment.

Something I don't see mentioned here much. If your guild's raid group is comprised of inexperienced or undergeared raiders, and the spike damage from phase 2 is demolishing your Tank, the parry hasted attacks may be the reason for the wipes, and not the healers.

We wiped 3 times, unable to survive massive spike damage on our MT during phase 2. Finally, someone mentioned the parry-hasted attacks and we tried again, this time, in phase 2, the MT did nothing, just sat there spamming shield block and thunderclap, but not attacking. In that attempted we killed prince with nobody dying.

Just a tip, if you happened to miss the breifly mentioned parry-haste and are having trouble surviving through phase 2.

the infernals are really annoying, my raid had him down to single didgets then 1 infernal hit us in the face and we where traped. it ended up prince on 1% and the tank soloing him. shame he died and after that we couldnt get him down again due to the dam infernals

Don't know if it was blind luck, but we had the DPS group standing at the doorway after 6-7 wipes on Prince, with the Tank pulling him alongside the wall.

No infernal even come close.

It appears that in 2.4, the previous safe spots no longer work as infernals may drop there (it happened to my group wiping us). Another source of this, http://www.wowwiki.com/Prince_Malchezaar, says "Note: As of 2.4 It seems they changed this so that these safe spots no longer exist, and there's a chance that an infernal will land exactly in those spots."

It may be the case that people now have to learn to do it without using safe spots... at least until possibly a work-around can be found.

Expect Prince Malchezaar to cause a lot more headaches.

I did this fight last night for the first time since 2.4 came out and noticed 2 things:

SW:Pain could not be dispelled (It wouldn't come off)
The infernals act wierd right before they land and are a little harder to predict now.

We had multiple bad infernal drops and never made it to phase 3 so I can't tell you if anything in phase 3 is different.

What bugged me about this guy is, even if your tank and healers are geared enough for Phase 2, you can still wipe just because an infernal face plants your entire group...Adding luck into the final boss of a relatively skill based raid seems.....unfair. It's almost as if you work your way through Kara, gearing up, just to be gimped by luck right at the end!

Plus for our first 4 attempts I was OT and got enfeebled every single time, until eventually I got enfeebled and ran straight into an infernal....

I then tried to MT it and both melee DPS died, then an infernal locked me in so that i couldn't move without going out of range of the healers, and the healers couldn't move without getting hit/going out of range of me...I ended up tanking him in an infernal! I hate this boss, he doesn't even fit in!

As of 11th May, 2008, Prince Malchezaar appears bugged.

This is in regards to an aggro shift that randomly happens during the fight, resulting in Prince charging off to one shot a random member of the party who happened to be a victim of the aggro shift, the tank gets enfeebled, and the raid wipes.

This has happened three times. GM ticket opened, but i'm assuming that i'll get the "its working as intended" nonsense.

Great tanking trinket for this fight. Pop it at around 95% and it'll refresh in time for phase 2. Using it at the beginning of the phase helps mitigate a lo to damage and allows the healers time to change healing tactics.

While running kara with my little group a few weeks ago I finally got the chance to be MT. Being rather new in the tanking world I didnt really know alot about Crushing Damage. I had forgotten to incorporate Shield Block into the rotation. Just a friendly word to those like me who are new to tanking. Dont forget your shield block. He went through 18k hp really fast.

A lot of people consider this to be a luck fight, but its really a DPS check. If your DPS is high enough, you'll kill him before there are a lot of infernals, and you don't have to rely on lucky placement. The rate of infernal drops increases dramatically in phase 3, so save all your cooldowns for the beginning of that phase.

This is a fight with a lot of luck involved. My group last night had several goes at him last night, always getting him under 10%, but bad infernal drops kept killing us. Either they would lock the dps in the corner, destroying them with enfeeble, or lock the dps out and away from the tank. If you get some lucky infernal drops, he's doable.

Prince is indeed simply about luck - I've gone in with extremely good groups and wiped a lot, because the infernals owned us no matter what we did - stood at the far wall, at the door, moved as the infernals dropped, no dice.

What we've started doing now is staying against the door at max range, and if an infernal falls on the tank, the healers simply heal through it. It gets tricky if the tank gets an infernal and SW:P at the same time, but it -is- possible to heal through it.

There are no safe spots anymore. Infernals can fall anywhere and box you in and wipe you at any time. If you're quick about moving you can prevent some wipes, but the best bet is to have high DPS for p2 and 3.

So, someone in our guild showed us a very easy way to make the infernals and enfeeble mostly irrelevant. This removes a lot of the randomness and should make most Prince attempts a one-shot:

Ranged dps and healers will all jump up on the small stone that's located right inside the door, stacking right on top of each other. An infernal can land right next to you and your elevation keeps you from taking any damage. Really. Zero damage.

The tank will bring Prince in along the right-side wall, with the tank's back against the wall. They will want Prince close enough to be within dps range, but far enough that casters won't be hit with a shadow nova.

Melee dps will find a convenient break in the right-side wall, between the tank and casters. This will break line-of-sight with Prince when they are hit with Enfeeble, so Shadow Nova will not cause damage. This allows for slower reactions when enfeebled and also gets them back into melee range much, much faster.

The only bad infernals will be the ones that hit the tank or the break in the wall. In that case, the same strategy can be used on the left-side wall, with melee moving around the corner of the doorway. The only time casters should need to move is if infernals force the tank out of healing range.

A fun thing to note: If you get Enfeebled, and you are a troll, there is a chance your Troll Regeneration will bring you up beyond 1 HP. It's worthless considering everything will do more than 9 HP of damage to you, but it is fun to have more than 1HP after Enfeeble.

prince is rather easy than hard... u jst need good dps an healers.... and the rest of the fight depends on LUCK and LUCK only ... it depends on where the golems (hellfire infernals) spawn... some times they are sooo spread that the whole fighting area is hell fired... and immediate wipe to the whole group.... and sometimes they spawn so far at the area that the raid can jst stay near the door and "tank and spank" him...... enfeeble -> run back -> fades -> go back.
i think it would be great to have a druid and priest or 2 druids as healers because if the golems spawn at the door they can run away while healing the tank.... other healers are all direct healers and cant stop at the middle of the hellfire which they will die in few seconds.

so in the end all that is needed is good dps and druid (at least one) healer and it would be a piece of cake

The easiet way to do this fight has been mentioned already. Just bunch-up the raid on the broken coluum inside the doors, Then have the tank walk out to the max range of the healers. A hunter can use MisdirectIon or the tank can pull him at max range during Prince's walk using any ranged weapon.Then as the tank is building a large threat cap the ranged DPS can inch forward til in range. The melee dps will have to beaware of their surroundings and head back to the safe zone inside the doors whenever Enfeebled to avoid being kill by Shadow Nova and/or when an Infernal drops near the boss. This as close to fool-proof as you can get, the only issue's left after this is the gearing of the tank(can he take the hits during Phase 2), and the raids aggro control.

Like I said at netherspite Retridin is also immune for his abilities the infernals and shadow nova i dont know if u are immune for enfeeble but it didnt affect me during the fight so maybe it was only on the other group or you are immune for it but as long as you dont overaggro you have nothing to fear as a paladin for what casts.

My paladin tanked Prince for the first time today. I'd killed up through Magtheridon and Gruul but had never tanked Prince before (I'd always helped heal), and was concerned about having to adjust my positioning due to the infernals, and what that would mean for the others.

This method works nicely.

Use heals before pulling to verify sufficient distance. I tanked the boss in the exact middle of the "bump" on the right-side wall.

We healed through rather than have me reposition. I am not sure how feasible this would've been for my group pre-3.0.2.

Duoed him (and the rest of kara except for Netherspite and Illhoof) with a Ret pally and Feral Druid. In mostly naxx 10 gear, not all too difficult, worst encounter was chess, and Shade of Aran was a wee bit difficult.

Id just like to add, that while wearing the Headless Horseman Helmet, you are immune to fire damage from this boss, and the infernals, either that or i was really bugged when all other DPS had died and i was sitting there doing DPS. while infernal next to me and the boss attempting to blast my head off.

Now that this fight is trivial, if you are a rogue fighting Prince it is a very good time to practice Vanish Immunes.

Even if you get Enfeebled, keep attacking the boss. At the split second shadow nova goes off, vanish. If you do it correctly you will not go into stealth and you will not take any damage/knockback.

It was very useful for me when I was raiding kara in BC. During 3rd phase when there is little warning on shadow nova I would cloak one and vanish immune the other =)

Solo'd as a 80 prot pally in heroic/naxx10 gear. It just takes a while, but at no point does he have a really dangerous ability that can't be healed by Judging Light or throwing an occasional flash heal (wait until he's casting shadow nova, and you have the Sacred Shield buff up). In his second phase, you can switch to Seal of Light instead of Wisdom since he attacks so fast and gives you great mana returns from Blessing of Sanctuary.

Just always keep Holy shield and Sacred Shield up and stay out of the infernal fire, and you'll be fine.

Just solo'd as an unholy dk(15/5/51).
p1 and p2 are simple enough, just max your healing and avoid infernos.
p3 was where dps cooldowns were needed including empower rune weapon, gargoyle and army of the dead, otherwise it was just a repeat of p1/p2 with you trying to beat his increased damage thanks to amp damage. Finished the fight on the 2nd try at 45% hp.

*You may find it helpful to get the titan or worgen book to make this fight a bit easier.

did this fight yesterday with a couple of 70+ and one level 80 . we were with 8 ppl and i was the only healer. (lvl 75 holy priest) Was my first time here, only our MT lvl 73 warrior has been here before. Wish i had read all these comments before the figth, it would have made it easier hehe ;)
After 2nd wipe we gave up cos it was already late. we had some trouble with those infernals and as the only healer i couldnt really get all my healings up cos i was fleeying from all sort of infernals and nova spams haha. Now i know better ;)
Tonight is the 2nd try i hope...

edit : yes we did him again and with a 2nd healer it was an easy fight :) still with 8 ppl cos someother left, but no problem at all. Casted POM, shield & renew on the tank just before the pull, and after that was able to heal the reaid with POM and group heals. tried to keep some renews on melee fighters too and the pally did his major heals on the tank. all cleared with no problems.

As a level 80 Protection Paladin, I was able to successfully SOLO Prince Malchezaar. It was a 16 minute fight, but I got him dead. Wasn't too hard, 100%-60% was fairly easy, I got lucky on the infernal drops not being anywhere near me. 60%-30% was a joke, I thought I would die in that phase of it since he starts dual wielding. But he just kept on missing, and I kept on blocking, dodging, and parrying more. Shadow word pain wasn't a big problem in the fight, I dispelled it just for the sake of habit, only ticked for about 1250. He didn't cast it but 8-10 times through first 2 phases. 3rd phase is what almost killed me. Since he does amplify damage, it made everything hit 100% harder. And if I'm right, it's non-resistable (The amplify damage buff that is) and was a pain to keep healed through. I used Judgement of light and seal of light the whole fight. Kept all spells going, Holy Shield, Shield of Righteousness, etc. I was fighting to the death, he kept my health around 20-34% most of the time during the last phase. I only burned Lay on Hands once as well as Divine Shield once to heal. Other than the last phase, it was fairly easy.
I have 29429 health unbuffed, with 2 peice Tier 8, and couple other Ulduar 10 gear.

After hearing that this fight was soloable by prot pallies and DK's, I decided to take a stab at it. Little did I know how difficult this fight was for a druid. Ferals, this is the hardest fight you'll ever deal with. It's certainly the hardest solo I've ever completed.

HOW TO: SOLO MALCHEZAAR AS A FERAL DRUID

Buffs:
Flask of Resistance, which may have either helped or been the cause of 7 out of my 8 deaths tonight.
Druid buffs
Indestructible potion for phase 3.

Notdeable gear changes: Had Ony hp5 trinket equipped. 4 piece T9 helped a lot. Used a healing staff during a lot of the encounter, rather than feral.

Phase 1 is relatively easy. If you're getting hurt, wait for a shadow nova, and as you're being knocked back, toss a rejuv and get back in bear. If you're close into his melee range, he will stand still a second before chasing you down. As in any solo, make sure you keep Demo up.

Phase 2 is slightly more damaging, but a rejuv every shadow nova will keep you up. Remember demo roar and you'll be fine. When you get hit by shadow nova, make sure you're not landing on an infernal.

Unlike phase one and two, Malchezaar is vicious in phase three. He will make you cry. He will make you bleed. You will die. However if you're brave, take a gulp and keep up the fight.

Slightly before phase 3, equip your healing staff and wait for a shadow nova. Once you're hit by a shadow nova, toss a lifebloom while being sent back, barkskin > Regrowth, and a final rejuv. You're going to need all the healing possible.

During the entirety of phase 3, minus a few seconds at the beginning, you will be afflicted with a debuff that increases damage taken 100%, which is why this guy is so hard. As soon as you enter phase 3, pop an indestructible potion (it REALLY helps) and all your dps cooldowns. Burn him as hard as you can in those first few seconds, but bear in mind that damage does not take precedence over healing, and if he's casting Shadow nova, start healing.

Aside from the burst you deliver to him at the beginning, you will be wearing your healing staff most of the time. Before each Shadow Nova even begins casting, swap to your healing staff. Every time he is in the midst of casting shadow nova, you hit your rejuv key. Once you land, you NEED a regrowth or you will NOT have enough healing when he gets back to you. If it looks like your GCD isn't going to be up when you land due to being late on rejuv, pop barkskin. Your regrowth is a necessary ~7-8k health you cannot live without it. However, keep in mind that if he hits you in caster form, even with barkskin and a potion, his swing is going to account for about 4k damage at least, and he's hit me for up to 7k when barkskin isn't up. Right after you've come back to bear form, swap back to your feral staff to maximize your damage output, but don't forget to swap back to a healing staff before the next shadow nova. You can't afford to swap staves during a shadow nova, and going without the 500-600 some healing of a staff is crippling.

Save your SI and Frenzied for right after a bad shadow nova, either a shadow nova resist, or in a situation where you did not have enough time to Regrowth. Using Frenzied right before a shadow nova is a terrible idea, because that's when you shift to heal. Cancelling Frenzied by trying to heal normally is going to waste a lot of healing, and not using regrowth/rejuv is going to mean a lot of health wasted. If you DESPERATELY need a heal, consider using SI alone, and Frenzied at a later time. If you've glyphed these (I did not, but will be bringing these glyphs to future Malch's), more power to you.

So that's the fight. Swap to healing staff, he shadow nova's, you toss a rejuv, a regrowth while you land, get back in bear form before he gets to you (it's going to be a close call every time, I guarantee), swap back to feral staff for ~15 seconds, swap to healing staff, rinse and repeat. Use cooldowns in event of an emergency.

This was the hardest fight I'd even done. I ended the fight at some 3k health, no cooldowns, and a ticking rejuv. It's a mix between how much healing you can do to hang on, and how much damage you can do before he almost inevitably overwhelms you.

T5 heals and mend pet are enough to keep your pet up, use you cower when heals get limited in viper

The pet tank can completely ignore the infernals, just stay at max range to avoid the shadow nova when you get enfeebled.

Soloed as a tanking Blood Death Knight with 40k health. I say soloed, as I was boosting a level 68 mage, but he died in the first 20 secs of the fight so it was mostly solo. Used army for some damage, saved my Raise Dead for near the end for Death Pact. The entire fight I just kept my diseases up, mashed Death Strike every time it was available, AMS to soak any infernal damage from when they fell. My dps was pretty bad in my tank gear, but I never came close to dying til near the end. Death Strikes were healing me for over 5k, 9k when I used Vampiric Blood, so I would say, if you want to solo this go Blood spec.

Been soloing him as a feral druid for a few weeks now. Back in the 70 days the range and the healers would always stand by the door because it never spawns any infernals there. You can abuse this by backing yourself into the door. Also the shadow nova won't knock you back in this spot. The first two phases are easy just use barkskin when its up and work on your rotation. You want to use a health set for this fight since 4% of a lot of health (I was at about 53K) will heal you for a lot of the damage done. I was able to make it to the 3rd phase with 80% health just by using barkskin and my rotation.

When he gets to 30% the fight turns into an all out dps race. Your by yourself so amplify damage will always be on you so basically your going to be taking double damage for the rest of the fight. Make sure all of your cooldowns are up and start keeping demoralizing roar up. As soon as he hits 30% hit berserk and give it all you've got. As soon as he puts amplify damage on you start rotating cooldowns: barkskin, enrage (almost everyone has the 4 piece now) and survival instincts if it comes right down to it. Chances are when you use survival instincts you won't have enough health to live after it expires so when you hit the cooldown you've got about 20 seconds to end the fight or you lose. Big bad wolf has been the hardest boss I've met in there so far because you only have about 5 secs to fight him in between running around like a crazy person.

I soloed him today on my icc 25 normal/heroic geared retridin with raiding spec, wearing Brynthol for some extra heals and with following buffs: BoK, Drums of the Wild, Runescroll of Fortitude, Well Fed and Flask of the North.
Took me 4 tries, (one of them was 3% -.-), on all attempts i was getting dangerously close to death in p3. i had seal of light on and was using judgement of light aswell. I used wings at the beginning, divine protection somewhere halfway the phase 2 and i used wings second time at about 35%. also used a potion in p3 and flashed on myself whenever i could in p2+3. I must say this was pretty challenging to do, aswell as clear the whole instance solo (mainly chess event solo was fun :P).

This IS soloable by an icc25 geared shadow priest. I let my dots take him down through his second phase to keep myself healed. My health right now (after patch) is a little over 34k self buffed. Wanted to keep dpsing since i wasnt sure exactly how hard he was going to be hitting. Lowest health i had gotten down to because of that was around 1k, and then i just decided to let my dots take him down until phase 3. During his phase 3 i just kept using flash heal after every other mind flay or so...heal myself fully, shield (if it was up) cast my dots, heal fully, dps him down, heal, dps his down, etc etc. Only took me a little over a minute to take him down.
The only 2 bosses i didnt get to do were Bane and Spite. Otherwise everything else is completely soloable by a shadow priest (including chess event). I went in with under 500g and came out with almost 900g in about an hour and 45 minutes, not including everything i need to sell in my bags, which are completely full.

Heh, on my 85 warrior(Fury), I got him to 15k and died. I used regen/damage reduce macros, but all wasted on 2nd phase, where he dual wields his axes and hits for 2k each swing, so 4 every 2sec damage, which is rather hard damage, at the time, this boss isnt solo'able by a fury warrior. But any healable classes can easily solo him, probaby.

Killed him today on my 85 frost mage, solo, along with the rest of Kara. Wasn't terrible difficult, but I didn't get hit with enfeeble at all. I didn't do anything fancy. I moved away from the infernos, got hit by shadow nova, and just stood there shooting him until he died. Oh, and mage ward and ice barrier are nice as well, along with mirror image and water elemental. Took under 2 minutes.

Ridiculously easy to solo has a discipline priest in a pvp spec at level 85. I won't bore you with the strategy, as the fight was so easy a strategy guide is totally unnecessary. Just be careful if you pop your shadowfiend. If you fade to give it aggro the Prince may drop you to 1 health. (A power word: shield on yourself before you fade prevent your demise.)

After not wanting to take the time to solo the chess event for months on my rogue a guildie wanted to do kara so we duo'd everything until this guy...
I told him to stay way back because I wanted to solo him. He did just that.

Things I noticed during the fight: his infernals spawned NO WHERE NEAR ME, his blades went after the druid guild mate all the way over by the door just before Mal died while I was at the balcony's far edge, his attacks may hit pretty hard but are completely negated by keeping recuperate up at all times.

Took me about a minute to down him solo. It was fun. :)

For people soloing this who have no clue how to find the prince (I tend to get confused myself at this point): Having finished the Chess event leave the chess room through the north-eastern exit (opposite where you came in). In the next room, turn right and climb the spiral staircase. Continue to the very top where you'll see a Fleshbeast in front of you. Take the Northern exit which leads directly to the big guy.

Started raiding November '07 on two toons, priest and hunter. Priest saw the Sunfury bow twice. Once, to a rogue, second, to DE. Hunter ran EVERY week for a year. 52 runs. In Wrath, we ran it... oh, twice a month, so another 20ish runs. Now, I solo it every week at 85. give or take 75 runs, and that bow STILL hasn't dropped. WHY YOU HATE ME, PRINCE?

As a hunter, MD to pet, stand pretty far back. He'll take you to 1hp, but if you are out of range of the nova, it wont matter. Watch for infernals. I use a Terrepene turtle as a tank, had no issues with aggro. Very simple. Good luck to all!

Using a turtle as the "Go-To" tenacity pet, I find it easy to solo (duo really) all of the old content as an appropriately-spec'ed Marksmanship Hunter.

I advise the use of Glyph of Mending and Glyph of Misdirection as two critical Major Glyphs, the other choices are yours to make.

As has been previously mentioned, Prince Malchezaar is a pushover.

Simply Misdirect your (tenacity) pet, and win! Remember to stand at max-range so as not to be affected by enfeeble.

Feign Death often or Misdirect multitudes!

Soloed Prince Malchezaar as an Affli Warlock with no gear with Voidlord.

This is my favorite Boss in the game, and the first killed Boss in my World of Warcraft career.

Tactic:
Boss should be tanked by a Voidlord. Your minion should stand with his back to the wall due to Shadow Nova (3k Shadow dmg + knock-back; 24 yard range). In phase 1 (ends at 60% of Boss HP) and 2 (ends at 30% of Boss HP) avoid damage from the Infernals and keep the distance of 24 yards from the Prince Malchezaar due to Enfeeble (reduces your maximum health to a single hit point for about 8sec). While Enfeeble is active, any damage causes instant death. Good Luck and Have Fun!

We just saw this string datamined from the 5.4.2 build.

Maybe we'll finally find out why Malchezaar has Gorehowl. Maybe he stole it from Grommash of the alternative dimension. He does say "All realities, all dimensions are open to me!" when you fight him.

I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to plant this seed for the now incoming expansion so far back.

While it may be obvious to some people, it has been a very long time since I raided Karazhan in TBC and I had completely forgotten which bosses are required to kill before you can successfully defeat Malchezaar. You need to kill Shade of Aran at least before you can pull Malchezaar without him despawning almost immediately. I did like 10 different Google searches with different keywords about not being able to pull Malchezaar as I couldn't find anyting here and I thought that this could save someone's time if they are wondering why the boss despawns on pull. Kill Shade of Aran first to be able to fight Malchezaar!

It's terrible of me. I'm a noob, I didn't find WoW till mid-Wrath. I've only now started doing serious old content. Tonight, I did Karazhan on my L91 (barely into WoD) BM Hunter.

Watching this Raid Boss, high end content (for his expansion), where even L85s (as evidenced in this thread) have to work and take care of the fight mechanics, strut and pose as I was tabbed out to read up on him... trying to figure out how to position my pet (Rokad the Ravager, from the Servants' Quarters) ...

And all I can think of is Zaalendor in Stormshield.

For some reason since 7.1 was released, there is a bug where the Chess Event silence effect remains on you after you've defeated the Chess Event, even up in the area where you fight Prince Malchezaar.

To remedy this, I've always closed out WoW and logged back in, and the debuff would be gone when I returned.

Today, for some reason, that did not work. I would also recommend not engaging Prince Malchezaar because you will not be able to attack or damage him. I even tried using Soft Foam Sword toy and it wouldn't let me use it either. And if you're level 110 it takes forever for him to kill you. I also couldn't hearth because I apparently can't dodge his attacks.

If you are still pacified at the end of the chess win, talk to Medivh and reset the chess board. Then just go to the last boss and have a hack at it! :)
